More than 70 percent of motorists are driving around in cars with defects which their parents would have put right in two flicks of an oily rag.

That's the finding of a national used car retailer which says that most of the vehicles it buys-in now come from a generation who regards DIY as a dirty word.

Leaking hoses, worn-out wiper blades, broken bulbs and water-starved radiators are all common shortcomings which might once have been fixed on a Sunday morning.

ACF Car Finance, which has vehicle showrooms throughout the UK, says the deficiencies come to light and are remedied during the 136-point RAC-approved inspection given to each car before sale.

Mark Jones, Senior Manager of Operations of the company, believes that basic maintenance skills have been lost to a world in which cars now rarely put a foot wrong:

'People new to motoring within the past ten years have probably never heard the heart-rending sound of an engine turning furiously and refusing to fire,' said Mr Jones.

"But just a generation ago, knowing how to remove and clean a set of spark plugs, or to trace a fault to a blown fuse, was often crucial to staying on the road.

'It's wonderful that reliability has improved so greatly, but now many people regard minor faults as something you simply live with until the next service, or the car is replaced,' he said.

Mr Jones concedes that fear is also likely to deter people from tinkering with the highly sophisticated inner workings of a car, but that many DIY options were still left open:

"We'll often see wiper blades that have clearly perished long ago, radiators in desperate need of a top-up, and dip-sticks with almost nothing to dip into - all five-minute jobs to remedy.

"Of the hundreds of two and three year old cars which we acquire each year, around seven out of every ten show deficiencies which the previous owner must have lived with for some time.

"We carefully hand-pick every one of our pre-owned vehicles from high quality trade sources, so the overall number of DIY-free cars could be much higher than the percentage we find.

'It certainly suggests that anyone buying a used car should ensure that the dealer has thoroughly checked for both major and minor snags before accepting delivery,' added Mr Jones.

ACF Car Finance specialises in supplying used cars and arranging loans for the growing number of people whose credit records affect their borrowing ability.
.
The company has showrooms throughout the country, and the locations of these are detailed on its website at www.ACFCarFinance.co.uk.

Ends

ACF Car Finance is Britain's leading supplier of high-quality used cars to people whose credit status might otherwise prevent them from obtaining car credit (http://www.acfcarfinance.co.uk/car-credit/).

National motor retailer ACF Car Finance has made its first move into city centre premises, triggered by the growing demand from credit-impaired used car buyers throughout North West England.

The company's new central Manchester showroom replaces previous premises out to the east of the city, and provides easier and faster access for customers from across the region.

The 11,000-plus square foot building sits alongside one of the city's busiest arterial roads near MediaCity UK, and in walking distance from Harvey Nichols and other Manchester centre retailers.

Until now, the firm has generally sited its showrooms in locations on the periphery of cities and towns, close to motorway exits.

Mark Jones, senior manager of operations at ACF Car Finance, says the £100,000 re-location project was a strategic decision based on the widening catchment area for customers:

"We now record a higher number than ever of people willing to travel two hours or more to our Manchester showroom, and many like to combine the visit with a day in the city.

"By positioning ourselves in the centre, we make this a more realistic proposition - and have now become much more accessible to many large conurbations in the North West.

"Liverpool is just thirty miles away, and within the hundred-and-twenty-minute drive time we can now include Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster and even Cumbria.

'Unlike many cities, Manchester has fast motorway links virtually right into the centre - so we decided to create a high-profile prestige presence in its heart,' added Mr Jones.

Now open for business, the showroom houses a large inside vehicle display area, offices, and a separately-staffed car valeting unit with a £20,000 eco-friendly water cleansing system.

Customers of ACF Car Finance, most of which have been refused borrowing by major finance companies, view vehicles after making a successful loan application to ACF's parent, The Funding Corporation.

According to Mr Jones, buyers' certainty that they have been accepted for a loan, often after many previous refusals from other lenders, means they are happy to travel further.

As evidence of the continuing difficulty of obtaining finance without a clean credit history, he said, most customers are now referrals from other motor dealers and financial intermediaries.

Earlier this year, ACF Car Finance announced the opening of its third London satellite showroom near Heathrow, giving the company a presence to the west, north and south of the capital.

ends

ACF Car Finance Limited is Britain's leading supplier of high-quality used cars to people whose credit status might otherwise prevent them from obtaining a used car loan (http://www.acfcarfinance.co.uk/used-car-loans/).
134 Mercedes-Benz Chassis for South Africa

Major Order for Daimler Buses

• Mercedes-Benz South Africa awards Rea Vaya 1B Bus Rapid
Transit contract in Johannesburg, South Africa

    • Deliveries to begin immediately

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) has been awarded the contract for the Rea Vaya 1B Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The South African subsidiary bid on the contract via the Sandown Motors dealership company, in which MBSA has a majority interest. The order covers 134 Euro V-compliant Mercedes-Benz chassis that will be shipped as completely knocked down sets (CKD) from Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. The CKD units will then be assembled at the Mercedes-Benz plant in East London, South Africa. All of the bus bodies will be provided by Marcopolo, a superstructure manufacturer with headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Deliveries to the Rea Vaya BRT operating company are to begin immediately. Rea Vaya manages bus routes over a distance of roughly 120 kilometers. The buses mainly serve townships outside Johannesburg that up until recently were not linked to the city's transport infrastructure.

Mercedes-Benz buses currently operate in BRT systems around the globe. For example, two Brazilian public transport companies recently added 80 Mercedes-Benz urban buses to their BRT fleets, and the brand's buses now have a 70 percent market share in the BRT segment in Brazil. In Europe, Mercedes-Benz buses operate on BRT lines in Nantes, France, as well as in Istanbul, Turkey, which also relies on 'Quality Made by Mercedes.' A public transport Company in Singapore has procured a total of 800 Mercedes urban buses over the last two years for use in a BRT system. BRT vehicles operate on separate dedicated bus lanes; this speeds up mobility in big cities.

The Rea Vaya 1B order is for 134 chassis from the O 500 M Euro V and O 500 MA Euro V series. A total of 93 chassis will be used with complete buses, and 41 will be connected to articulated bus bodies. These will be the first Euro V chassis to be used in a BRT system in South Africa. All the buses will have high-floor chassis and powertrains whose dimensions are precisely aligned with the design of the Johannesburg BRT system.

The Rea Vaya BRT system offers a key environmental benefit to Johannesburg in that it reduces CO2 emissions in the city. The new Mercedes-Benz fleet boasts state-of-the-art technology, which makes each bus a comfortable, safe, and efficient means of transport. About 20 jobs are being created for the chassis assembly operations in East London.

— WebWireID175905 —

Business Announcements

Environment

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

    • Each map is made up of over 1000 LEGO bricks
• The LEGO Tube Maps measure 140cm x 100cm
• Each map took four days to build
• Created by Duncan Titmarsh, the UK's only Certified LEGO Professional - there are only 13 in the world!

Where are they?

The LEGO Tube maps will be on display in the unpaid side of ticket halls at four stations*, for all to see.

These can be seen at the following London Underground stations:

    • South Kensington - 1927 map
• Piccadilly Circus - 1933, Harry Beck's original map
• Green Park - 1968 map
• Stratford* - 2013 map
• King's Cross St. Pancras - 2020 map including Crossrail, the proposed Croxley Rail Link, and the proposed Northern Line Extension

Mike Ashworth, Design and Heritage Manager at London Underground, said: 'LEGO have done a wonderful job of recreating our internationally recognized Tube map.

'I'm sure our customers of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy looking at the five different LEGO maps that show the history and development of the Underground.

'The Tube network, like the famous Underground map, has constantly evolved to support London's growth and prosperity.

'The 2020 map at King's Cross St. Pancras shows the new stations and rail links we want to deliver - we hope this fun LEGO map will inspire the young engineers of the future to help deliver our vision.'

Emma Owen, PR Manager at LEGO UK, commented: 'We are delighted to be part of London Underground's celebrations by building the iconic Tube Map with iconic LEGO bricks.

'With LEGO you can build anything your imagination desires - from a simple tower to a London Tube map that helps people plan their journey around London!'

Pick up a leaflet at these stations where you will find details on how to build your own London Underground logo or 'roundel' out of LEGO bricks.

The LEGO Tube Maps will be on display in London Transport Museum later in the year.

• Board Member for Personnel Angela Titzrath: "The diversity of our workforce benefits the company and fuels our innovativeness"
• People from more than 150 nations work hand in hand every day in Germany
• Diversity management is strategically important for unlocking the Group's potential

Bonn,

Under the motto of "All Different - Successful Together", Deutsche Post DHL, the world's leading mail and logistics group, will participate in the first German Diversity Day. Initiated by the association "Charta der Vielfalt e. V.", the day aims to firmly integrate the topic of diversity into the German business community. By taking part in Diversity Day, the Group intends to create an even broader awareness about the diversity of the company's workforce and to bring it to life as much as possible. After all, as one of the largest employers in Germany and around the world, Deutsche Post DHL views diversity as a strategically important issue. In light of demographic change and the shortage of specialists and managers associated with this trend, diversity management is the key to tapping new potential.

Different characteristics
"Deutsche Post DHL is a service provider for Germany and works to link the entire world", says Angela Titzrath, Board Member for Personnel at Deutsche Post DHL. "Our customers and investors are international, just like our employees - each person has different characteristics! This form of diversity, something I call 'the beauty of thinking differently,' is of fundamental importance. It creates a tangible competitive edge. After all, we can only remain a highly innovative service provider and attractive employer by having an open corporate culture. In doing so, we bolster our long-term success in business."

With its 475,000 employees in 220 countries and territories around the world, the Bonn-based provider of logistics services is the epitome of diversity. In Germany alone, individuals from more than 150 countries successfully work together every day - women and men of various ages who have the widest range of national, ethnic and religious backgrounds as well as people with disabilities and different sexual orientations.

Diversity of workforce
The strength of Deutsche Post DHL lies particularly in the diversity of its workforce. One of the most critical tasks of diversity management at Deutsche Post DHL is tapping the potential of this diversity and encouraging inclusion on the job. Issues being addressed here include work-life balance, women in executive positions, nationalities, the RainbowNet network for tolerance (sexual orientation) and equal employment opportunity for people with disabilities. In Germany alone, the company employs about 14,000 people with handicaps, an employment quota of 8.6 percent on an annual average - as a result, the Group far exceeds the percentage achieved by the private business community in Germany.

Activities undertaken on behalf of all groups range from workplace design and flexible work schedules to support of work-life balance. By signing the Charter of Diversity, an initiative launched by the association "Charta der Vielfalt", Deutsche Post DHL expressed its commitment in 2007 to further integrating diversity into the development of a corporate culture characterized by respect and openness. As part of the company's participation in the first German Diversity Day, an exhibit and numerous stands related to the issue of "living diversity" will be set up in the Group's headquarters.

The goal of each effort is to provide information about various facets of the topic and convey many new impressions. An entertaining play will explore the daily challenges that arise in dealing with human diversity. A video will explain how the issue of diversity is addressed in the Group. In addition, the company's canteen will offer cuisine from employees' home countries. It will be a colorful day devoted to diversity, just as the Charter of Diversity calls for.

— WebWireID175808 —

Lifestyle / Society

Transportation / Shipping

Workforce Management / Human Resources

WebWire® | More Feeds

Stamps featuring early CCM and Indian bikes honour Canadian motorcycle design and manufacturing

Ottawa (ON) – Today Canada Post celebrates freedom, adventure and speed, with the release of the first two Permanent™ domestic rate stamps in a set dedicated to Canadian motorcycle manufacturing and design. The two stamps travel back to the turn of the century, when out of the desire to merge the flexibility of bicycles with the speed of cars the first motorcycles were created. The stamps showcase two early models, the CCM 1908 Lightweight Motor Cycle and the 1914 Indian.

'When motorcycles first captured the imagination of adventurers, Canada's entrepreneurs, designers and manufacturers were there,' says Jim Phillips, director of Stamp Services at Canada Post. 'These stamps pay tribute to the excitement of those early days.'

In the early 1900s, while developing its bicycle and hockey skate businesses (which now operate as distinct entities), the Canada Cycle and Motor Company became the first company to step into the emerging motorcycle market in Canada. The company created only a few models, and the 1908 was among its first. CCM used a Swiss-designed engine that could be attached to any conventional bike frame.

Famed for its ability to engineer speed on two wheels, Indian Motorcycle Company – then called Hendee Manufacturing Co. – was an early commercially successful motorcycle maker. Based in Springfield, Massachusetts, it opened a plant on Toronto's Mercer Street in 1912. The Indian became the bike of choice for Canadian racer 'Wild Joe' Baribeau, who rode it to provincial and national racing championships. The bike's racing success triggered a boom in demand from North American police departments, as well as military units.

The stamps each showcase two views of their motorcycle: the top view from the perspective of the rider and a profile. The designer also honours the Indian's military legacy by featuring a postmark based on a famous World War II poster.

The stamps are available at Canada Post counters across Canada, and at canadapost.ca/shop.

About the stamps
The stamps measure 32 mm x 32 mm (square) with simulated perforations, while the souvenir sheet measures 115 mm x 83 mm and has 13 + perforations. They are printed by Canadian Bank Note Company on Tullis Russell paper using lithography in five colours. The stamps are pressure sensitive. The Official First Day Cover will be cancelled in Port Dover, Ontario. The stamps are available in booklets of 10. Souvenir sheets and framed enlargements are also available.

— WebWireID175638 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Rolls-Royce Plc has won a contract to supply its innovative Promas Lite propulsion system to German based company AIDA Cruises as part of a technical upgrade of their Sphinx series cruise ships.

Promas Lite is an integrated propeller and rudder system that increases efficiency and manoeuvrability, and is designed specifically for retrofitting to existing ships.

AIDA Cruises, part of the Carnival Group, will install Promas Lite on their AidaSol cruise ship during dry docking in December this year.

Andy Marsh, Rolls-Royce, President - Services said: "Fuel efficiency is a key driver for our customers and we're pleased to welcome AIDA Cruises into the group of leading cruise operators that are choosing Promas Lite as a relatively simple upgrade that will significantly reduce operating costs.

"The fuel savings achieved by this system are typically in the range of four to six per cent depending on the type of operation. Savings can increase beyond 20 per cent when combined with an adapted operating profile and propeller blade design. The solution is proving more and more attractive to our customers."

With installation taking place during routine dry docking, and a relatively short return on investment for operators, Promas Lite is gaining popularity with ship owners, and since first launched in 2008, 15 cruise ships and ferries have been fitted. The propulsion system is suitable for a wide range of ship types and other future orders include fishing vessels and cargo ships.

    1. Rolls-Royce is a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use on land, at sea and in the air, and has established a strong position in global markets - civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy.
2. As a result of this strategy, Rolls-Royce has a broad customer base comprising more than 300 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators, 160 armed forces, more than 4,000 marine customers, including 70 navies, and energy customers in more than 80 countries.
3. Annual underlying revenue was £12.2 billion in 2012, of which more than half came from the provision of services. The firm and announced order book stood at £60.1 billion at 31 December 2012, providing visibility of future levels of activity.
4. Rolls-Royce employs over 45,000 people in offices, manufacturing and service facilities in over 50 countries. Over 14,000 of these employees are engineers.
5. In 2012, Rolls-Royce invested £919 million on research and development, two thirds of which had the objective of further improving the environmental performance of its products, in particular reducing emissions.
6. Rolls-Royce supports a global network of 28 University Technology Centres, which connect the company's engineers with the forefront of scientific research.
7. The Group has a strong commitment to apprentice and graduate recruitment and to further developing employee skills.

— WebWireID175608 —

Business Announcements

Machinery

Oil / Energy

Transportation / Shipping

Travel Industry

WebWire® | More Feeds

Social and Mobile Integration, Shipping Options and Flexible Returns Drive Brand Loyalty

Reston, VA and Atlanta,- - comScore, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCOR), a leader in measuring the digital world, and UPS (NYSE: UPS) today released the second UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper™: A Customer Experience Study, a report analyzing e-commerce preferences including mobile trends, social media impact and the integrated buying experience of shopping in physical stores and online - also known as omnichannel retailing.

Results show consumers want more choices when it comes to shopping online, more control over when their purchases will be delivered and a convenient returns process. They're also using social media to shop for the best deals and expect more shipping options from e-tailers.

Earlier this year, comScore asked 3,000 consumers which factors led them to shop more on their computers, smartphones or tablets; to abandon shopping their carts, and to recommend retailers to friends. The study provides new insight to help retailers increase sales - 44 percent said they would more likely shop with a retailer if they could buy online and pick up the item in the store and 62 percent want the ability to buy online and return items to a store.

Mobile and social channels continue to change the way consumers shop - 46 percent said they are less likely to comparison shop when using a retailer's mobile app, and 47 percent said they want a retailer to send a coupon to their smartphone when they are in-store or nearby. Not surprisingly, 84 percent of online shoppers use at least one social media site. Among Facebook users - the most popular channel - 60 percent "like" a brand to receive an incentive or promotion.

"Consumers have a growing number of digital touch points, with more ways to stay connected with their favorite online retailers through every phase of the shopping, buying and fulfillment process," said Susan Engleson, comScore senior director. "What will set apart one retailer from another in a competitive marketplace is how well they meet the rapidly evolving needs and expectations of customers."

Channels, Choices and Convenience

Shoppers expect more shipping options from online retailers, but 78 percent continue to choose the least expensive option. To qualify for free shipping, three out of four shoppers have added items to their carts. After free shipping, the ability to review estimated shipping costs and delivery times before checkout are most important. Almost all (97%) of those surveyed said tracking a purchase is essential or nice to have.

Only 44 percent of consumers are currently satisfied with their ability to reroute a package. Retailers supporting changes while orders are in transit have a competitive advantage. "As consumers move more of their shopping online and gain exposure to a variety of purchasing experiences, their expectations for retailers continues to grow," said Alan Gershenhorn, UPS's chief sales and marketing officer. "Now consumers can shop from anywhere, at any time and are looking for online retailers to have an integrated and robust set of options as the customer experience no longer ends at checkout. Whether large or small, UPS helps retailers develop innovative consumer-driven global supply chain management strategies."

Hassle-Free Returns

According to the report, more consumers are returning online purchases. Last year's Customer Experience Study showed 63 percent of consumers reviewed a retailer's return policy before making a purchase. This year it's 66 percent. A hassle-free returns policy can make the difference in driving return customers - 82 percent of consumers said they would complete the purchase if they could return the item to a store or have free return shipping; 67 percent said they would shop more with that retailer and 64 percent would recommend the retailer to a friend.

Panalpina has become a global member of the Supply Chain Council, which will further enhance the company's growing Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) services. Panalpina and its customers will now read from the same playbook, and use universal guidelines for the analysis and improvement of supply chain processes.

Over recent years, the end-to-end management and optimization of supply chains has been a steadily growing business segment for Panalpina. The company has invested in advanced technology and experienced staff to enhance its core freight forwarding and logistics business with optimization services that analyze supply chains in detail to make practical changes that reduce cost and improve efficiency.

Panalpina's latest development in the field of SCO is joining the Supply Chain Council (SCC) as a global member. This non-profit organization helps members make significant and rapid improvements across supply chains. More than 800 global corporations, universities, professional service and technology firms are currently SCC members. Members of the SCC have a reputation for constantly outperforming market benchmarks and are known for their commitment to operational excellence.

'Our comprehension is to understand the customer needs and challenges to build the best solutions for them based on best practice and benchmarks,' says Sven Hoemmken, Global Head of Marketing and Sales at Panalpina. 'The SCO work we do generates real results, and savings of up to 20% are relatively common. As a member of the SCC, we will continue to develop and improve this work to build even more efficient and cost-effective supply chains.'

Alignment with SCOR® model

Since joining the SCC, Panalpina has started aligning its SCO services with the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR®) model. Council members use the SCOR model (based on common parameters of 'Plan', 'Source', 'Make', 'Deliver' and 'Return') to rapidly map and analyze supply chain processes and initiate process improvement initiatives. The model has been used by practitioners for many years. It provides a unique framework to support communication among supply chain partners and to improve the effectiveness of supply chain management. 'Aligning our optimization services with the SCOR model will make it easier for us to communicate with our customers and find solutions, as we are now using a common and universal language for supply chain processes going forward,' explains Peter Karel, Global Head of Supply Chain Solutions at Panalpina.

Putting theory into practice

In 2012 Panalpina established the Supply Chain Solutions Center at Frankfurt Airport in Germany to centralize its global SCO expertise. Here, highly qualified professionals use diagnostic tools and benchmarking applications to analyze supply chains and compare customer specific performance metrics to a wider set of industry peers. They then make recommendations to improve supply chain configurations from end-to-end based on practical experience.

Once improvements are approved, Panalpina not only provides customers with strategic guidance in regards to supply chain design and execution but also puts the identified optimization possibilities into practice.

About Panalpina

The Panalpina Group is one of the world's leading providers of supply chain solutions. The company combines its core products of Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and Logistics to deliver globally integrated, tailor-made end-to-end solutions. Drawing on in-depth industry know-how and customized IT systems, Panalpina manages the needs of its customers' supply chains, no matter how demanding they might be. The Panalpina Group operates a global network with some 500 offices in more than 80 countries, and it works with partner companies in a further 80 countries. Panalpina employs around 15,000 people worldwide who deliver a comprehensive service to the highest quality standards – wherever and whenever.

— WebWireID175444 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Mangrove Holdings Pte Ltd ('Mangrove') today announced that it has rejected an offer made by joint venture partner ASCO Holdings Ltd ('ASCO Holdings') for the shares it holds in ASCO Freight Management Pte Ltd ('ASCO Singapore') and instead made a counter offer to acquire ASCO Holdings' majority share.

Commenting on the discussions, Neil Johnson, CEO of Mangrove, noted: 'We believe ASCO Holdings' offer significantly underestimates the value of the market for oil and gas logistics services in the region, places minimal value on the existing client base and ignores the results the ASCO Singapore team have shown in building a solid presence in Asia.'

Noting that under Mangrove's stewardship, ASCO delivered a steady stream of underlying profits, Johnson added: 'Billions of dollars of both opex and capex are planned for oil and gas within the region, all of which will have a major logistics component. It is a market in which Mangrove will continue to invest and we are actively seeking further acquisitions to complement our investment in ASCO Singapore.'

Mangrove presently owns 20% percent of ASCO Singapore with the balance held by its joint venture partner ASCO Holdings Ltd.

NOTES TO EDITORS

Mangrove is a Singapore registered business with investments predominantly in the logistics and supply chain industry. Mangrove is 100% owned by Neil Johnson, a British national based in Singapore, and was established in 2002 to invest in logistics and supply chain industry businesses. Mangrove co-founded EP-Team, Inc. in the United States, which was recently acquired by BNSF Logistics, a Berkshire Hathaway company.

— WebWireID175410 —

Financial Markets

Maritime / Marine

Oil / Energy

OTC / SmallCap

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

New and innovative technology offered following successful trial.

    • Signs can be quickly and easily self-installed
• Information tailored to meet local needs

Transport for London has today launched a new Countdown Digital Sign service - providing a new way to deliver tailored live bus arrival information cheaply and effectively to a range of public locations, such as hospital waiting rooms, schools or shopping centre foyers.

The introduction of the Digital Sign service follows a successful trial in four locations which included Oaks Park High School in Newbury Park, Loxford School of Science and Technology in Ilford, Redbridge College in Romford and Gracefields Gardens Health and Social Care Centre in Streatham.

The trial demonstrated the signs worked well delivering clear, easily accessible information about local bus services, utilising existing IT and display equipment in public locations.

The technology can be self-installed using existing equipment - so it can be delivered at minimal cost to all.

The business or organisation is provided with a tailored web link via a dedicated URL* - that will give information for the bus stop or stops in the immediate vicinity.

An electronic map detailing the local area is also displayed, which is especially useful for passengers unfamiliar with the location.

Businesses or organisations interested in learning more about the service should email - Digisign.countdown@tfl.gov.uk

The introduction of the Digital Signs service compliments the extremely popular 'Countdown' real time bus information service which was upgraded and relaunched in October 2011.

The service provides live bus arrival information via dot matrix signs at bus stops, the web, smart phones and SMS, and informs around 13 per cent of all bus journeys every day.

These numbers are growing daily, as more passengers appreciate the added convenience the service offers when getting around London.

Simon Reed, Head of Technical Services Group at London Buses, said: 'We hope the new Digital Sign service will help passengers make the most of London's extensive bus service.

'The service makes use of existing infrastructure that is already in place in many public spaces and can be delivered cheaply and quickly.

'It will help our passengers' access real time bus information away from their local stop which is especially helpful for those who may not have access to the Internet or a smart phone.'

TfL's ongoing digital commitment to supply API data feeds to app developers has also seen a large rise in the number smart phone applications.

With over 30 of these apps already available, which are in addition to TfL's free mobile site (http://m.countdown.tfl.gov.uk). Live bus information is always available at passengers' fingertips 24 hours a day.

Notes to editors:

    • Access to 'Countdown' real time bus service information can be made via the TfL website, from a fixed computer or web enabled phone and involves three simple steps. Simply go to the TfL buses webpage for live bus information at tfl.gov.uk/buses; then enter a bus route, postcode, street name or bus stop code (these are clearly displayed at all bus stops or available on the TfL website) and view live bus arrival times, including bus destinations, for all services due in the next 30 minutes
• Passengers without access to the internet can simply text the bus stop code to 87287 for detailed bus information at a small charge of 12p plus the network operator's standard SMS charge
• Countdown real time bus arrival information is also available at 2,500 bus stops across the capital. New and improved roadside signs provide clear amber text on black background, of particular help to visually impaired passengers
• *TfL charge £240 per annum for the service to cover operational costs. This charge can be waived for public sector applications and other specific circumstances.

— WebWireID175396 —

Business Announcements

Electronics

Lifestyle / Society

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Canada Post Group of Companies Lifted from $58-million Loss by $109-million Gain from Sale of Downtown Vancouver Plant

Expects substantial financial loss for the year

Ottawa (ON) – The sale of a mail processing plant in downtown Vancouver lifted the Canada Post Group of Companies1 to a profit before tax of $51 million for the first quarter ended March 30, 2013. If not for the $109-million gain from the sale, the Group of Companies would have had a loss before tax of $58 million for the first quarter. The Group of Companies reported a loss before tax of $73 million for the first quarter of 2012.

The core Canada Post segment would have reported a loss before tax of $41 million for the first quarter if not for the sale of the Vancouver plant. Instead, the segment is reporting a profit before tax of $68 million for the first quarter, compared to a loss before tax of $59 million for the same period last year. The plant was one of Canada Post's most significant properties and was disposed of in January 2013, as a new multi-purpose facility is being built at the Vancouver International Airport.

Declining volumes continued to underscore the changing needs of Canadians for postal services and the need for Canada Post to transform the business. The segment's total volumes declined by more than 136 million pieces in the first quarter compared to the same period a year earlier and revenue from operations was essentially flat despite price increases. With continued volume declines, eroding revenue and limited flexibility to make rapid adjustments given its infrastructure and high fixed costs, Canada Post expects a substantial financial loss in 2013.

Transaction Mail is primarily the letters, bills and statements that generate most of the Canada Post segment's revenue. In the first quarter, Transaction Mail volumes declined by 60 million pieces or 1.9 per cent compared to the same period in 2012. This is due to the impact of digital alternatives, the implementation of pay-for-paper initiatives by some of Canada Post's largest customers, particularly in the banking and telecommunications sectors, and the highly competitive environment.

Direct Marketing volumes declined by 76 million pieces or 2.9 per cent compared to the same period in 2012. In Publications Mail, publishers and consumers are shifting to digital alternatives, while Unaddressed Admail customers are reducing their spending or redirecting portions of it to other channels.

Canada Post's strong position in the competitive business-to-consumer delivery market was reflected in the growth of parcels volumes, which were up by about 300,000 items or 4.0 per cent in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2012.

Background

The operations of the Canada Post Group of Companies are funded by the revenue generated by the sale of its products and services, not taxpayer dollars. Canada Post has a mandate from the Government of Canada to remain financially self-sufficient and to provide a standard of postal service that is affordable and meets the needs of the people of Canada.

-Following a successful financial year in 2012, dividend of EUR 0.70 per share proposed once again
-Group confirms Strategy 2015 targets at halfway point
-Climate efficiency significantly improved – half of 2020 CO2 target achieved already
-CEO Frank Appel: 'We remain on track'

Frankfurt/ Bonn - -After a successful year 2012 and a solid start in the new year despite a challenging economic environment, the world's leading postal and logistics group, Deutsche Post DHL, is confident about the future. At the Annual General Meeting, Deutsche Post DHL CEO Frank Appel confirmed the Group's targets for 2013 as well as the company's mid-term outlook.

'Strategy 2015 has given our company a clear compass that has made it possible for us to confidently navigate the financial and economic crisis. It will help us remain on track even without any economic tailwind,' Appel told shareholders. 'At the same time, we continue to benefit from our ongoing efficiency gains. Only streamlined, flexible structures and continuous cost optimization will enable us to have the necessary financial strength to invest in the future and thus generate long-term profitable growth.'

Even though the global economy produced, as expected, only moderate growth, the company got off to a solid start at the beginning of this year, Appel said. The Group had released its financial figures for the first quarter of 2013 on May 14. At EUR 13.4 billion, revenues had risen by 0.6 percent above the level generated in the same period last year. Adjusted for exchange-rate effects and inorganic factors, revenues climbed by 1.5 percent – and the Group was able to produce this result even though the loss of around 2.5 working days in Germany had an additional negative impact on the year-on-year comparison. Group EBIT rose by almost 3 percent above the level generated in the previous year, again outpacing revenue growth, and reached EUR 711 million. Once more, the Group's strong position in the international express business and the parcel segment in Germany – both highly dynamic markets – proved to be the driving forces of revenue and earnings growth.

Short-term and mid-range targets confirmed
For the rest of 2013, Deutsche Post DHL continues to expect the global economy to generate moderate growth. Against this backdrop, Appel once again confirmed the Group's guidance for the year, forecasting Group EBIT to increase to between EUR 2.7 billion and EUR 2.95 billion. The MAIL division is still expected to contribute between EUR 1.1 billion and EUR 1.2 billion. At EUR 2.0 billion to EUR 2.15 billion, the contribution made by the three DHL divisions this year is again forecast to provide the largest share of the Group's operating earnings. Corporate Center/Other expenditures are anticipated to again total about EUR 400 million. The Group's consolidated net profit is projected to grow in line with the operating business in 2013. The company also expects that its focus on cash flow – which already produced results in the first quarter – will enable this year's free cash flow to at least cover the proposed dividend for the 2012 financial year.

Appel also confirmed the company's mid-range targets in his address to shareholders. 'As 'The Postal Service for Germany' and 'The Logistics Company for the World,' we intend to become the provider, employer and investment of choice,' the CEO said. 'By taking this comprehensive company approach, we plan to fully unlock the huge potential of our company.' Deutsche Post DHL aims to produce Group EBIT of between EUR 3.35 billion and EUR 3.55 billion in 2015. In the process, the MAIL division's EBIT contribution should stabilize at a level of at least EUR 1 billion. For the DHL divisions, the Group expects earnings to increase at an annual average of 13 percent to 15 percent between 2010 and 2015. As a result, the EBIT contribution of DHL is expected to continue rising to EUR 2.7 billion to EUR 2.9 billion through the end of this time period. At the same time, the company anticipates Corporate Center/Other expenditures to decline to EUR 350 million.

Simplification, globalization and climate efficiency
Appel took the opportunity at the halfway point of Strategy 2015 to reiterate for shareholders the central goals of the Group's plans: In addition to developing innovative solutions to further simplify customer services, the fostering of global trade through the continuous expansion of the company's network and the assumption of corporate responsibility remained the primary focal points of the Group, Appel said. 'Effective, efficient logistics plays a fundamental role in the competitiveness of companies, markets and societies. As the world's leading postal and logistics group, we assume this responsibility and consider it an integral component to our business approach,' he added. Within this context, the Group's commitment to the environment plays a key role, Appel said. 'As a pioneer in logistics, we must also be a pioneer in climate efficiency,' the CEO asserted. At the heart of Deutsche Post DHL's commitment to the environment is the climate-protection program GoGreen, which aims to improve by 2020 the Group's carbon efficiency by 30 percent compared with the base year 2007. With a 16 percent improvement in carbon efficiency at the end of last year, the Group has already progressed more than halfway to this goal.

A look back at 2012: sizeable revenue increase, earnings growth outpaces revenues
During his speech Appel expressed strong satisfaction with the 2012 financial year: 'We reached another milestone last year and delivered what we promised,' he stated. As a result of its exceptional market position in the world's growth regions and markets – as well as due to favorable exchange-rate effects – Deutsche Post DHL boosted its revenues last year by EUR 2.7 billion (+5.1 percent) to EUR 55.5 billion. Thanks to higher revenues and improved profitability, the company was able to enhance its operating earnings in the same period of time by more than EUR 200 million, or nearly 10 percent, to EUR 2.67 billion. By generating earnings of more than EUR 2 billion – a year-on-year increase of 19 percent – the DHL divisions continued to be the driving force of the Group's growth. With all three divisions producing double-digit earnings gains, the DHL pillar was the main contributor to the Group's operating profits. At EUR 1.05 billion, the operating earnings produced by the MAIL division in 2012 were EUR 56 million below their level in the previous year. The reason for the decline was a settlement of a VAT audit that had a onetime negative impact of EUR 151 million on the division's earnings. Excluding this nonrecurring effect the MAIL EBIT would have increased to EUR 1.2 billion in 2012 from EUR 1.11 billion in the prior year. Overall, the operating improvements together with the final positive effects resulting from the completion of the Postbank transaction led to a 42.6 percent increase in consolidated net profit to EUR 1.66 billion. Similarly, basic earnings per share climbed from EUR 0.96 in 2011 to EUR 1.37 in 2012. Adjusted for major onetime effects, the company's net profit and earnings per share increased by more than 10 percent in 2012.

Dividend of EUR 0.70 proposed
On the basis of this positive development, the Board of Management and the Supervisory Board are proposing a dividend of EUR 0.70 per share for the 2012 financial year to the company's shareholders. Based on the consolidated net profit adjusted for non-recurring items, the dividend proposal reflects a payout ratio of 53 percent. Based on the consolidated net profit adjusted for non-recurring items, the dividend proposal represents a payout ratio of 53 percent. As a result, the Group's dividend proposal is once again within the range of 40 percent to 60 percent that the company set as a target corridor for dividend payments with the introduction of its finance strategy in 2010. Calculated on the basis of the share's year-end closing price, the dividend proposal reflects a dividend yield of 4.2 percent.

— WebWireID175389 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds
