For those businesses that trade goods inland or overseas, they ought to be looking to safeguard their stock and assets to prevent any additional hardship through cargo loss or the loss of assets.

Aba Group's Managing Director, Graham Webster says:

'The economic climate in Europe is still uncertain, and many are still looking for people to blame as seen recently, where the former RBS boss Fred Goodwin was stripped of his knighthood. In times like these, one of the best things a company can do, is to look at its risk management practices to minimise the extent of any damage should something unexpected occur'.

The likelihood of something 'unexpected happening' are about to increase dramatically. The cold snap that has seen dozens dead across Europe is set to hit the UK later this week, the Army is now on standby for a level 4 'Major Cold Weather Incident'.

'For those businesses involved in trading or transporting goods inland or overseas, it is vital that they examine the true extent of their Cargo Insurance Coverage. With temperatures forecasted to be below -10c, the chances that cargo carrying Lorries and transport might be involved in accidents likely to grow. The same is true of cargo carried by sea or by air. Where the weather might disrupt or damage supply chains, business owners need to ensure they're covered. If the late delivery or loss of goods en route to a customer means that they cannot function properly, the sender needs to ensure that they are covered against any liability' says Mr Webster

Already in some areas of Wales, roads are becoming impassable where snows and ice have caused vehicles to become trapped in drifts or unable to climb rises in the road. A warning issued by health chiefs says that more than 1,500 people could die each week as a result of the weather, should the UK experience the full force of the cold predicted.

'When economic times are difficult, it's sensible to consider all of your businesses' insurance needs so that you can spread the costs of losses and avoid business interruption until conditions improve. With weather warnings like these however, it's not only sensible, it is critical, that businesses examine the risk management practices that they have in place so that they can deal with such a disastrous cold weather situation where required' states Mr Webster

The aba Group is currently advising local businesses across Bolton and Manchester on how they can manage the risks associated with the coming cold weather as well as ensuring that they have the Cargo Insurance Coverage that they need. If you need help or advice on your own Cargo Insurance Coverage, you can speak to the aba Group or any other specialist business insurance brokers.

The UK's largest online parcel delivery specialist has said it is unsurprised by the results of a recent study highlighting the growing importance of online delivery services.

A worldwide survey of 93 members of the Universal Postal Union showed that 70 per cent believe postal e-services are strategically important for the future. The research identified 55 different types of digital services which are now available, including track and trace and online bill payments.

According to Bolton-based Parcel2Go, which has been involved in helping businesses and individuals to organise international parcel services for over 20 years and is involved with the delivery of more than two millions parcels a year, demand for online services will continue to grow at a rapid rate.

Richard Mercer, marketing director at Parcel2Go, said the simplicity of arranging shipping services through the internet is one of the main appeals.

He said: "The results of the Universal Postal Union survey make interesting reading, but we're not surprised to find that an increasing number of organisations are recognising the potential of online services.

"At Parcel2Go we have been focussed on bringing the latest online services to our customers for many years. Feedback tells us that online tools such as parcel tracking are highly valued by individuals, while for many business customers they have become invaluable."

Richard added that as mobile devices such as tablet computers come to play an increasing part in people's daily lives, demand for online courier services is only going to increase.

The survey put Switzerland at the top of the list in terms of overall e-services development, while the US, Canada and Germany all featured in the top ten. The Universal Postal Union said it was the first time it had surveyed its members on e-services, but added that this type of study will now be conducted on a regular basis.

- ENDS -

About Parcel2Go:
Parcel2Go Ltd has been offering its customers the opportunity to organise London, Birmingham and Glasgow courier service deliveries for the past 21 years. Based in Bolton, the company operates a cost-effective collection and delivery service using UK courier service operators such as Parcelforce and FedEx throughout the UK, Europe, and countries across the world.

For further information contact:
Les Yates
Marketing Executive
Telephone: 08713 308066
Email: l.yates@parcel2go.com
Website: www.parcel2go.com

— WebWireID152190 —

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Berlin/Essen - As of February 1, Patrick Zilles will take over the intermodal activities of DB Schenker Logistics. In his role as Head of Intermodal at Schenker AG headquarters in Essen, Zilles will be responsible for linking the different modes of transport efficiently, in particular DB SCHENKERhangartner. This offering provides customers from industry and trade the combination of trucking and rail services from a single source. Trucks handle pre-carriage and onward carriage, while trains handle long distances in unaccompanied combined transport.

His position at DB Schenker was created in light of the growing importance of intermodal solutions. DB Schenker Logistics is the market leader in land transport in Europe and one of the most important service providers, with roughly half a billion euros in revenues in rail forwarding alone. 'I think there are still opportunities for our customers and for further growth, particularly in the intermodal business. I therefore am delighted that Patrick Zilles, an experienced manager from the logistics sector, will be joining our team,' said Karl Nutzinger, Member of the Management Board of Schenker AG responsible for Land Transport at DB Schenker. 'With his support, we will continue to expand our range of products and services involving rail – both for transalpine traffic and for the East-West connection in Europe.'

The 38 years old expert in transportation administration most recently managed intermodal activities for a rail company.

— WebWireID152128 —

Business Announcements

Transportation / Shipping

Workforce Management / Human Resources

WebWire® | More Feeds

Heavy Industrial Leader in Portugal Expands its Investment in Vector's Software Asset Optimization Technology

January 26th Atlanta GA, Montreal and Birmingham UK Vector Networks Europe announces the supply of another 1,000 licenses of IT Asset Manager Pro to Portuguese engineering company EFACEC.

EFACEC (www.efacec.com) is a major global player in electrical power transmission technology. Headquartered in Portugal, and with $1.3bn revenues generated by 4,500 employees, EFACEC has presence in 46 countries. Effective January 2012, EFACEC have expanded their investment in Vector's IT Asset Management technology from 2,500 to 3,500 licenses, and at the same time adopted the Software Metering (Software Usage Measurement) module.

Dean Bates, Technical Lead at Vector Networks Europe, observes - 'We see a very wide range of maturity in the Software Asset Management tools and processes that organizations deploy. Often, the first stage is to establish a granular and comprehensive inventory. Once that is in place, and the quality of data has created confidence in the tools, an organization will progress to studying the pattern of use of the licenses in which they have invested so heavily, and pay so much to keep current and supported. Often, this progression provides the first significant opportunities for major cost savings. Unused software can either be retired, and maintenance costs eradicated, or de-installed and re-deployed where wanted in the organization, avoiding additional purchases.'

Erick Yanez, Vector's VP Development, remarks – 'EFACEC quickly adopted our recent v6.0 release. The speed increase on software inventory enables them to refresh their database daily, providing the software asset management team with highly accurate data. We are also excited about the opportunity that v6 gives them to measure usage of applications running on thin client devices on Citrix or MS Terminal Services.'

The v6.0 release also expanded the Web-based Reporting, including the reporting of Microsoft OS and Server license keys, and supports integration with Vector's License Manager Pro and Change Manager Pro solutions.

About Vector Networks
Based in Atlanta, Vector Networks specializes in solutions for desktop asset and service management, change management, issue tracking, and business process automation. Its PC-Duo® brand is synonymous with high-quality enterprise-grade remote control. Vector Networks solutions have been installed and supported in over 20 countries since the company's formation twenty two years ago. With development based in Montreal and a highly mobile sales and support team, the company understands the needs and challenges of multi-site organizations.

The relationship with EFACEC is headed by Vector's country partner Silicon (www.silicon-connect.com). Silicon, a specialist in connectivity applications, has represented Vector since 2000, not just in Portugal but in African countries where Portuguese is the official language.

BP and Panalpina will join hands to design a best-in-class oil and gas freight forwarding supply chain. The two companies have signed a strategic services master agreement that will tap into Panalpina's vast Oil and Gas and Panprojects experience. The scope of the multi-year agreement comprises transportation services for air, ocean, road and rail, industrial projects, freight management and other logistics services connected with the exploration and production of oil and gas.

'The agreement with BP is great news for Panalpina. We've gone through tough times in Oil and Gas in the past years,' said Panalpina CEO Monika Ribar. 'Today we are stronger than ever before in that area of expertise. We are best-in-class when it comes to compliance and standards for Health, Safety, Security and Environment. And more importantly, we have the experience, the capability and the capacity to execute and deliver for our Oil and Gas customers.'

Upstream business under one single contract
The agreement unites Operations and Freight Management Services for upstream capital projects under a single contract. The upstream sector is known as the exploration and production (E&P) sector. It involves the searching for potential underground or underwater oil and gas fields, drilling of exploratory wells, and subsequently operating the wells that recover and bring the crude oil or raw natural gas to the surface.

Panalpina's Oil and Gas and Panprojects to work hand-in-hand
'Panalpina has proven its commitment to the oil and gas industry for more than four decades, traditionally with a focus on servicing the highly demanding upstream part of the business,' said Frank Bichowski, Global Head of Industry Vertical Oil and Gas at Panalpina. 'Together with BP we can take the oil and gas supply chain to the next level.' To drive innovation, Panalpina's oil and gas specialists will work hand-in-hand with the in-house specialists for industrial projects.

The industrial projects division of the Panalpina Group, Panprojects, will mostly handle upstream business under this agreement. Some 300 specialists around the world provide integrated logistics turnkey project forwarding and management services on a global scale. 'Our services are especially suited for companies like BP,' said Christopher Kent, Global Head of Panprojects. 'BP will benefit from our industry-specific expertise that we have gained from the completion of numerous large and small projects in all industry segments worldwide over the past two decades.'

A major milestone in reaching goals for 2014
It took one and a half years from the first talks through the RFI (Request for Information) and tender process to the signing of the contract. 'I am very proud of our organization and our dedicated people across the globe that made this possible. The agreement is of paramount importance for Panalpina and a major milestone in reaching our goals for 2014,' said CEO Monika Ribar.

The Panalpina Group
The Panalpina Group is one of the world's leading providers of supply chain solutions, combining intercontinental Air and Ocean Freight with comprehensive Value-Added Logistics Services and Supply Chain Services. Thanks to its in-depth industry know-how and customized IT systems, Panalpina provides globally integrated end-to-end solutions tailored to its customers' supply chain management needs. The Panalpina Group operates a global network with some 500 branches in more than 80 countries. In a further 80 countries, it cooperates closely with partner companies. Panalpina employs approximately 15,000 people worldwide.

— WebWireID151863 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Oil / Energy

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Gouda - Imtech (IM-AE, technical services provider in and outside Europe) secured its first order in Denmark. The high-tech traffic management solutions by Peek (the Imtech Traffic & Infra mobility specialist) for each of the 365 road junctions in Copenhagen represent an important contribution to making the Danish capital completely CO2 neutral by 2025.

René van der Bruggen, Imtech CEO: 'Imtech (Peek) has a large installed base of high-tech traffic solutions such as traffic controllers and traffic lights, which are being used as part of an extensive upgrade involving the deployment of the latest technology and innovative traffic management systems. From this installed base we have succeeded in becoming the technology upgrade partner to the city of Copenhagen. In formal terms, this means the first Imtech order in Denmark, which is a breakthrough. An Imtech office is being opened at the same time to help us build on this start. This will further strengthen our position in the European traffic market.'

New generation of technology for 365 road junctions
The order comprises the upgrade, improvement and maintenance of all 365 road junctions in the city, including a traffic management system based on ITS technology (Intelligent Transport Systems). ITS is a collective international term for the application of information and communications technology in traffic infrastructure and vehicles for making traffic safer, more efficient, more reliable and considerably more environmentally friendly. It involves the use of the latest information technology for simulation, real-time control and communications. The overall package of technological improvements will greatly contribute towards Copenhagen's ability to meet its CSR objectives. An order has been placed for an initial phase of 10 million euro, which will be considerably expanded in due course.

First CO2 neutral city in the world
Copenhagen is seeking to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% by the year 2015, and to be completely CO2 neutral by 2025. More than 50 sustainability initiatives have been launched against this background, for public transport, the transport industry, and the complete logistic 'setting'. In 2011, 36% of the inhabitants of the Danish capital regularly travelled by bicycle; the target is for this figure to have risen to 50% by 2025. The Imtech technology is designed to give priority to cyclists and public transport, with the help of up-to-date travel information for example, and the creation of 'green waves'. At present, traffic is responsible for 21% of the city's overall CO2 emissions, but it is intended that this be reduced to 10% by 2015, thanks in part to Imtech solutions. To that end, new high-tech traffic controllers will be linked to a real-time remote monitoring system that will enable the flow of buses, bicycles, cars and freight vehicles to proceed in a sustainable and safe manner. The aim is to achieve optimal traffic flow with as few CO2 emissions as possible. This technology is partly the result of previous successful European pilot and research projects - CVIS, SAFESPOT and FREILOT - to which Imtech contributed significantly.

Active in the traffic market throughout Europe
Imtech is a strong player in the traffic market in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway, Finland), Central and Eastern Europe, and is involved with projects in other European countries. It also exports mobility solutions outside Europe. The company's objective is to further strengthen its position both in and outside the continent. Imtech is strongly placed in the urban and interurban markets, the traffic management and safety market, and in high-tech traffic centres. Besides this, Imtech is active worldwide in the market of parking technology.

— WebWireID151859 —

Environment

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

We all know that laws are created to keep society running smoothly and ensure people's safety. At the same time, there is nothing more frustrating than receiving a traffic ticket due to an honest mistake, or even worse, when the police appear to be targeting drivers at inopportune moments. Here are some of the most common occurrences of undeserved ticketing.

Speed Traps
You always spot them at the last second. Police who park near the exit lanes off the highway, which just happen to also be hills, making sudden slowing quite difficult. You may in the process of slowing to the desired speed limit just as they catch you speeding.

Radar Guns
Drivers have reported that the police's use of speed camera guns can be faulty. Radar guns do have their limitations. The biggest one is that to get an accurate reading the target should be the only moving target in the radar beam's path. Achieving that on a busy road is difficult, and requires some specialized training. Other sources of interference include the angle of the target relative to the radar gun, and other transmitters like cell phones and CB radios.

Minimal Speeding
When radar guns aren't involved in detecting drivers' speed, police opinion and subjectivity can often result in fines from drivers going less than 10 km per hour over the speed limit. Although you may be monitoring your speed, police may view your minimal speeding as a traffic violation and issue a fine.

Following the Flow of Traffic
While driving on the highway or on busy urban roads, the flow of traffic depends on drivers staying with the flow of traffic. This flow may be at a slightly higher speed than indicated. It can be overwhelming to be pulled over for speeding when you were going the same speed as the other driver in the flow of traffic.

Performance Standards
Placing quotas on the number of tickets issued is illegal, but there is nothing stopping the police force from establishing a performance standard for their employees. Performance standards may entail averaging the amount of tickets everyone else writes and expecting officers to meet that standard.

Fight Your Traffic Ticket
Ticket911.ca lawyers are an experienced and professional team dedicated to getting your traffic tickets and demerit points dismissed or reduced. They contest your ticket on your behalf, saving you time and money. If you've experienced any of these situations or are facing impaired driving charges, Ticket911.ca can help.

— WebWireID151500 —

Automotive

Legal Issues

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable aviation fuel used for the first time on an intercontinental Lufthansa flight

Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable aviation fuel will be used for the first time to power an intercontinental flight when Lufthansa flies a regular scheduled service from Frankfurt to Washington D.C. using the fuel on 12 January. Lufthansa calculates that using biofuel on the flight will reduce airborne CO2 emissions by as much as 38 tons, equivalent to the CO2 released by six flights between Frankfurt and Berlin.

The flight will mark the end of a six-month trial by Neste Oil and Lufthansa during which the airline flew a total of 1,187 flights between Frankfurt and Hamburg using Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable aviation fuel.

Excellent results from using renewable fuel

Lufthansa announced in a press release issued on 9 January that its renewable aviation fuel trial has been a success and has met the company's expectations. A total of approx. 1,500 tons of CO2 emissions were eliminated during the trial. Thanks to the higher energy density of the fuel, also the fuel consumption was reduced by more than one per cent.

"The fuel behaved excellently and is perfect for aviation use," said Joachim Buse, Lufthansa's Vice President, Aviation Biofuel during a teleconference with the media on 11 January. "There were absolutely no problems during the flights, and the aircraft engines performed exactly as they would flying on conventional fossil-based Jet A-1."

"It is very satisfying to hear that our renewable aviation fuel performed exactly as it should," says Matti Lehmus, Neste Oil's Executive Vice President, Oil Products and Renewables. "Neste Oil's NExBTL renewable aviation fuel is 100% compatible with aircraft engines currently in use, and no additional investments or modifications to the aircraft or their engines are needed. We are looking forward to hearing more details on the results of the trial with our new fuel."

Following the end of the trial, Neste Oil and Lufthansa will continue to cooperate in the renewable aviation fuel area, initially focusing on research into various raw materials suitable for producing this type of fuel. The two companies will also collaborate in other areas of biofuel research and will share a joint stand at the International Green Week Berlin event to be held between 20 and 29 January this year.

Neste Oil is one of the few companies that are currently capable of producing renewable aviation fuel in commercial quantities; and low-emission renewable aviation fuel is one of the areas where the company is looking to grow in the future.

Neste Oil in brief
Neste Oil Corporation is a refining and marketing company concentrating on low-emission, high-quality traffic fuels. The company produces a comprehensive range of major petroleum products and is the world's leading supplier of renewable diesel. The company had net sales of EUR 11.9 billion in 2010 and employs around 5,000 people. Neste Oil's share is listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki.

Neste Oil has been selected into the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and is also featured in the Ethibel Excellence investment register. The company is included in The Global 100 list of the world's most sustainable corporations. Forest Footprint Disclosure (FFD) has ranked Neste Oil as the best performer in the oil & gas sector.

Berlin/Essen/Helsinki - Oy Schenker East Ab today reported that it had concluded an agreement to acquire the entire share capital of Suomen Kiitoautot Oy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kiitoautot Yhtiöt Oy. According to the agreement, the entire operating business will be acquired by DB Schenker. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Suomen Kiitoautot Oy and Schenker Cargo Oy, an affiliate of Oy Schenker East Ab, together make up two thirds of the Kiitolinja chain. Following the conclusion of the agreement, Suomen Kiitoautot Oy will continue to operate in the medium-term as an independent affiliate in domestic land transport in Finland alongside Schenker Cargo Oy.

'With this acquisition, DB Schenker is strengthening its presence in Kiitolinja's domestic land transport' said Karl Nutzinger, Member of the Management Board of Schenker AG responsible for Land Transport. 'The acquisition consolidates Kiitolinja's position at the top of the domestic land transport industry in Finland. We were offered a chance to preserve the structure of the Kiitolinja chain in eastern and north-eastern Finland by acquiring Suomen Kiitoautot Oy, the company carrying out operations for Kiitolinja in those regions."

Measured by revenue, Suomen Kiitoautot Oy is one of the largest family-owned companies in the Finnish transportation industry. In 2010, the company, which was founded in 1959, generated revenue of roughly EUR 50.5 million and employed 441 staff members.

DB Schenker ranks among the logistics market leaders in Finland. The company offers domestic land transport (via Kiitolinja), parcel services, home delivery (via Kiitolinja), European land transport, air and sea transport, exhibition freight forwarding, contract logistics, supply chain management and other services. With roughly 1,400 employees, DB Schenker generated approximately EUR 481 million in revenue in 2010 and delivered 3.5 million consignments and 2.8 million package shipments with a total weight of 3.5 million metric tons.

— WebWireID151478 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Financial Markets

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Daimler Adds 1,200 Positions in Ramp-up of Truck Production in North America

* Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) to add second shift at Freightliner plant in Cleveland - * DTNA is benefiting greatly from the strong market rebound - * Hiring of 1,200 new employees t...

* Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) to add second shift at Freightliner plant in Cleveland
* DTNA is benefiting greatly from the strong market rebound
* Hiring of 1,200 new employees to begin in February 2012

Daimler Trucks North America announced the addition of a second shift and plans to ramp up production at its Freightliner Truck Manufacturing Plant in Cleveland, N.C. This will result in the creation of 1,200 new jobs, including 100 at the nearby DTNA Components and Logistics Plant in Gastonia, N.C.

The additional workers will increase personnel at the largest Freightliner manufacturing plant in the United States by more than 70 percent, from approx. 1,600 to over 2,700. The Cleveland facility produces Class 8 heavy-duty truck models, including the Freightliner Cascadia, Columbia, and Argosy product lines.

DTNA is ramping up production in response to the positive market development in the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) region. Freight volume is back up to pre-crisis levels, and vehicle fleets are now being gradually replaced after not having been modernized for several years. The demand growth particularly benefits heavy-duty long-haulage trucks, creating backorders as long as six months for the Freightliner Cascadia model.

In 2011 in the United States and Canada alone, Daimler's North American commercial vehicle subsidiary substantially boosted truck sales, posting an above-average gain from the strong market rebound. With 94,155 vehicles through November 2011, sales were almost 55 percent higher than in the same period of 2010. DTNA is the most successful manufacturer of Class 6 – 8 trucks in the United States and Canada, with a market share of 32.7 percent (as of October 2011).

In response to the increased customer demand for Freightliner and Western Star brand trucks, DTNA had already increased its workforce by around 3,000 employees at various truck manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Mexico last year.

Hiring of new employees will begin in early February 2012, and the new production shift is slated to be at full capacity by September 2012.

Freightliner trucks are also sold internationally, and 20 percent of the trucks built at the Cleveland plant are sold through Daimler subsidiaries in the export markets of Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

— WebWireID151471 —

Automotive

Business Announcements

Transportation / Shipping

Workforce Management / Human Resources

WebWire® | More Feeds

The founder of the UK's largest online parcel delivery service, Parcel2Go, has said anyone is capable of making it in business if they have the right attitude.

Fil Adams-Mercer launched the Parcel2Go.com website in 2000 and over the past 11 years has helped build the company into an industry leader, responsible for handling more than two million packages every single year and attracting in excess of 18,000 new customers each month.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, he said he was inspired to launch an online presence following a trip to America, "where every single advert was for www.something.com". None of the major UK courier companies had ventured online and started offering bookings over the internet at this point, and his vision was rewarded with success. Parcel2Go turned over £17.5m in the 12 months to April 2011, a figure which is expected to rise to £22m this year.

But while Mr Adams-Mercer has now earned a respected place as one of the UK's top business leaders, he remains proud of his background and his first job learning how to sell on Bolton Market when he was still at school.

He said: "I don't mind being compared to Del Boy. That's what I am, a market trader done good.

"I don't do joined-up writing and I can't spell for toffee. So doesn't that give everyone a chance? If I've done it, you can do it."

Parcel2Go itself plays a key part in helping entrepreneurs and small businesses get their goods to customers in the UK and countries across the world quickly, efficiently and cheaply with reliable courier services. In recent years an increasing number of start-ups have established themselves online and now rely on world-renowned couriers booked through Parcel2Go to get their consignments delivered safely and on time.

- ENDS -

About Parcel2Go:
Parcel2Go Ltd has been offering its customers the opportunity to organise London, Birmingham and Bristol courier service deliveries for the past 21 years. Based in Bolton, the company operates a cost-effective collection and delivery service using couriers such as City Link and DHL throughout the UK, Europe, and countries across the world.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says it will increase testing for a fungicide that has been found in orange juice. In a letter to the juice industry, the agency said that an unnamed juice company claims to have detected low levels of the fungicide carbendazim in its own orange juice and in a competitors' juice. Fungicides are chemicals that destroy fungi and or their spores.

FDA officials said that they are not concerned about the safety of the juice, and the increased testing is only to make certain that the contamination is not a problem. Carbendazim is not approved for use on citrus in the United States, so any amount of residue is considered illegal. Brazil, which exports oranges to the United States, does allow and use the chemical.

Shipments of orange juice will be tested at the border, and those with any trace of the fungicide will be detained.

'EMSL Analytical's dedicated and knowledgeable food division tests for fungicide and also offers FDA Import Detention Services, working with the FDA to coordinate sample collection and analysis,' states Joy DellAringa, M.S., RM (NRM), CFSP, National Food Microbiology Supervisor at EMSL.

For more information on EMSL's food testing services, please contact EMSL at (800) 220-3675, email info@emsl.com, or visit www.EMSL.com or www.FoodTestingLab.com.

* Agreements signed with leading private equity firm
* Bosch to continue with brake control systems, brake boosters, and aftermarket businesses

Stuttgart – The Bosch Group is planning to sell its global foundation brakes business to a newly-formed affiliate of KPS Capital Partners, a leading global private equity firm based in New York City. Agreements to this effect have been signed on January 9, 2012. The transaction is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. The planned sale comprises the original equipment business with products such as brake calipers, disk brakes, drum brakes, and parking brakes, with a total sales volume of 850 million euros in 2010. Some 5,200 associates work in this sector, around 30 of them in Germany.

'In selling our foundation brakes business to KPS Capital Partners, we have chosen a leading private equity firm with many years of experience in the industrial sector,' said Bernd Bohr, member of the Bosch board of management and chairman of the Automotive Group. This carve-out concludes the realignment of the brake operations of this global supplier of technology and services. Bosch had announced its intention to restructure its brake operations in spring 2009. This was followed at the end of 2009 by the sale of Bosch's foundation brakes business in North America to the Japanese brake manufacturer Akebono Brake Industry, Tokyo. The remaining global foundation brakes business is to be transferred to KPS Capital Partners and its affiliates in spring 2012. It comprises 20 locations in Europe, Asia Pacific, and South America, of which 15 are manufacturing sites.

In the future, Bosch's brake operations will be focused on brake boosters and brake control systems. Bosch will retain and systematically expand the aftermarket business, including production of brake disks and brake pads.

Michael Psaros, a KPS Managing Partner, said, 'KPS is very excited to create one of the leading manufacturers of foundation brakes, building on our many years of experience investing in the automotive industry. In addition, the combination of the new Company's customer relationships and knowledge base of its thousands of associates worldwide, together with the financial resources provided by KPS, will accelerate the Company's growth as an independent enterprise.'

Martina Merz, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Brakes Business, said, 'Our objective is to build a leading supplier of foundation brakes and I believe that the Company's strong balance sheet and access to KPS's financial resources will enable it to achieve that objective. I am very confident that by tailoring the business processes to foundation-related requirements and by continuing to leverage the skill, creativity and talent of our associates, the new Company will achieve its full potential.'

Munich - The BMW Group concluded 2011 with its best sales result ever. Worldwide sales of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce automobiles rose 14.2% last year to reach a total of 1,668,982 vehicles (prev. yr. 1,461,166). The company therefore strengthened its position as the leading provider of premium vehicles. In December, sales were 11.9% higher than in the same month last year with 158,125 vehicles (prev. yr. 141,358).

'2011 was an excellent year for the BMW Group. We have clearly attained our sales target of over 1.6 million vehicles and our models continue to be in high demand right across the world,' said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. 'Looking ahead, we want to continue to grow, with balanced sales growth across all continents, and we plan to remain the world's top selling premium automaker in 2012. Growth will also be driven by the new BMW 3 Series which will be launched worldwide next month. This is the best BMW 3 Series sedan we have ever built and we are confident it will continue this model's success story. Due to the BMW 3 Series model changeover, we expect to see momentum increase in the second half of the year.'

BMW brand: New models drive sales. BMW 5 Series clear segment leader.
BMW brand sales rose 12.8% in 2011 to reach a total of 1,380,384 vehicles, the best sales level in its history (prev. yr. 1,224,280). In December, a total of 128,182 vehicles were delivered – an increase of 10.9% (prev. yr. 115,570). The clear frontrunner in terms of growth was the new BMW X3. With 117,944 vehicles sold, this highly-successful model grew at a rate of 156.4% (prev. yr. 46,004) in 2011. The BMW X1 also continued to report strong gains in 2011 with a total of 126,429 vehicles sold (+26.4%; prev. yr. 99,990). The BMW 5 Series solidified its position as segment leader, with a total of 310,050 vehicles delivered to customers in 2011 (+46.3%; prev. yr. 211,968).

The flagship BMW 7 Series also continued to perform well, with deliveries reaching 68,774 vehicles last year (+4.5%; prev. yr. 65,814). Customer response to the newly introduced BMW 1 Series has also been very positive. Sales of the 5-door rose 42.6% in December to 12,507 units (prev. yr. 8,769).

MINI brand: New sales record
The MINI brand can also look back on its best year ever. Global sales climbed to a record 285,060 vehicles in 2011 (+21.7%; prev. yr. 234,175). It finished on a strong note in December with 29,467 vehicles sold (+16.2%; prev. yr. 25,359). The brand's positive annual result was bolstered by the MINI Countryman, which totalled 89.036 deliveries in its first full year of sales. Further momentum is expected in 2012 with the new additions to the MINI family: the MINI Coupé and the MINI Roadster. The U.S. remains the largest market for MINI, with 57,511 cars sold last year, followed by the U.K. with 50,428).
