TNT has acquired exclusive syndication rights to The Mentalist from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, commencing in 2012. Currently in its second season on CBS, The Mentalist has emerged as one of the hottest shows on broadcast television. The top-rated series was the #1 new program of the 2008-2009 television season among total viewers and households and won the People's Choice Award for Favorite New Drama.

The Mentalist will join a TNT lineup that includes many hit acquired series, along with network originals such as The Closer, Saving Grace, HawthoRNe, Leverage and the upcoming Men of a Certain Age. TNT also recently picked up Warner Bros. Television's Southland.

"THE MENTALIST is a terrific show that will be an ideal fit for TNT's already strong lineup," said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. "The early success of the series also indicates The Mentalist has a great future."

"Everyone recognized early on that The Mentalist was an A-tier drama, the kind of program that would have a profoundly positive effect on its cable licensee," said Ken Werner, president, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. "As a result, the demand for the off-network rights began almost immediately following its debut on CBS last fall and has steadily increased as the show blossomed into a true broadcast hit."

In addition to being a commercial hit, The Mentalist is critically acclaimed, with the Television Critics Association nominating the series as Outstanding New Program of the Year. The Washington Post said star Simon Baker was "such a sly and commanding presence that he holds your attention in every scene," while USA Today praised the show as "well-cast, well-written," and Entertainment Weekly declared it "a fun, fast-paced treat."

The Mentalist stars Golden Globe® and Emmy® nominee Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI) who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor-sharp skills of observation.

Within the Bureau, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits were feigned. Jane's role in cracking a series of tough, high-profile cases is greatly valued by his fellow agents. No-nonsense Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney – Prison Break) openly resists having Jane in her unit and alternates between reluctantly acknowledging Jane's usefulness and blasting him for his theatrics, narcissism and dangerous lack of boundaries.

Lisbon's team includes agents Kimball Cho (Tim Kang – Third Watch), Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman – Generation Kill) and rookie member Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti – The O.C.), who all think Jane's a loose cannon but admire his charm and knack for clearing cases.

The Mentalist is from Warner Bros. Television and is executive-produced by Bruno Heller (Rome) and Chris Long (Gilmore Girls).

Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (WBDTD) is one of the leading suppliers of entertainment programming to the domestic television marketplace, distributing first-run syndicated series, off-network television programs and theatrical motion pictures to local broadcast television stations, as well as to pay, cable, satellite and broadcast networks throughout the U.S. WBDTD handles the domestic distribution of television series produced by Warner Bros. Television, Telepictures Productions, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Horizon Television; selected HBO Independent Productions and the Lorimar Television library; current feature films from Warner Bros. Pictures; and the Studio's unmatched motion picture library.

Warner Bros. Television (WBTV) is one of the entertainment industry's most respected providers of original content, producing award-winning drama and comedy series for both broadcast network television and cable. For the 2009-2010 television season, WBTV is producing more than 25 primetime series, with at least one show on each of the five broadcast networks. New programs include the one-hour drama The Vampire Diaries, the #1 show on The CW; one-hour shows Human Target and Past Life for Fox; the hourlong V, Eastwick and The Forgotten, as well as half-hour comedies The Middle and Hank for ABC; and an untitled medical drama from Jerry Bruckheimer Television for midseason on CBS, among others. Continuing programs include TV's #1 comedy among households and total viewers in Two and a Half Men, TV's #1 comedy among adults 18-49 in The Big Bang Theory, the #1 new program of 2008-2009 among households and total viewers in The Mentalist, the Julia Louis-Dreyfus-starring comedy The New Adventures of Old Christine and veteran drama Cold Case for CBS; the #1 new program of 2008-2009 among adults 18-49 in Fringe for Fox; Chuck for NBC; and Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville and Supernatural for The CW. WBTV also produces The Closer and Southland for TNT and Nip/Tuck for FX.

TNT, one of cable's top-rated networks, is television's destination for drama and home to such original series as the acclaimed and highly popular detective drama The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick; Saving Grace, starring Holly Hunter; HawthoRNe, with Jada Pinkett Smith; Leverage, starring Timothy Hutton; Raising the Bar, with Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben and Jane Kaczmarek; and Dark Blue, starring Dylan McDermott, as well as the newly acquired Southland, from ER creator John Wells. TNT also presents such powerful dramas as Bones, CSI: NY and Numb3rs; broadcast premiere movies; compelling primetime specials, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards®; and championship sports coverage, including NASCAR and the NBA. TNT is available in high-definition.

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.

— WebWireID107204 —

Advertising / Marketing

Business Announcements

Entertainment

Film and Motion Picture

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Holiday Party CD and a TWC-exclusive Aaron Neville Single Benefit The Salvation Army

The Weather Channel® (TWC), in partnership with singing legend Aaron Neville and The Salvation Army, announces the release of "Holiday Party," a holiday music compilation album. The CD features the single "Please Don't Forget" by Aaron Neville, and a portion of the proceeds from the single and the CD, both available by download from theweatherchannelmusic.com, will be donated to The Salvation Army's Annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.

"We are very excited to expand The Weather Channel music collection with the release of our new holiday album, 'Holiday Party,'" said Robyn Coward, director of licensing and merchandising for The Weather Channel. "The timing of this campaign aligns perfectly with the holiday season and the recent launch of theweatherchannelmusic.com."

"Holiday Party" features a mix of upbeat and festive music. Along with classic holiday songs, the CD offers the all-new single "Please Don't Forget" by Grammy Award-winner Aaron Neville. A song about true joy and peace received from helping others, "Please Don't Forget" follows in the tradition of the "original" Salvation Army Christmas song "Silver Bells," which also is performed by a Salvation Army brass band on the CD. "Silver Bells," inspired by the iconic Salvation Army bell ringer, was originally recorded by Bing Crosby in 1950.

Neville also lends his voice to the holiday classics "White Christmas" and "Go Tell It On The Mountain" from his album "Christmas Prayer." "Holiday Party" features other well known artists such as Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, Amy Grant, The Salvation Army Ensemble, One Approved, Matt Belsante and Blessing. Classic holiday songs include "All I Want For Christmas," "Little Drummer Boy," the Charlie Brown Christmas Theme and others.

"One of the sounds I love about the holiday season is the 'ring ring' of Salvation Army bells at Red Kettles. It brings hope, happiness and awareness to so many around the U.S. It's such an honor to partner with The Salvation Army and The Weather Channel on this holiday collection and new song. 'Please Don't Forget' is just a reminder to reach out a hand to our brothers and sisters who may need a little extra help this holiday season and every season for generations to come," said Aaron Neville.

Aaron Neville will appear for the special premiere performance of "Please Don't Forget" Friday, Nov. 20 on Wake Up with Al, The Weather Channel morning show hosted by Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams. The Weather Channel, Aaron Neville and The Salvation Army also have joined forces to promote the single and the CD. TWC will support the effort from weather.com as well as on air. The single "Please Don't Forget" - available exclusively on the "Holiday Party" CD - and the full CD will both be available for purchase and download from theweatherchannelmusic.com. "Holiday Party" will be distributed to the retail market via EMICMG Distribution, a subsidiary of EMI Music. The CD will be available at major retailers such as Wal-Mart.

"The Salvation Army has a strong musical tradition so this partnership is a natural fit," said Major George Hood, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army. "This is an excellent way for people to help their neighbors in need by supporting the Red Kettle Campaign while enjoying some great music in the process."

The release of "Holiday Party" follows past CD release successes from The Weather Channel. In December 2007, TWC's debut album "The Weather Channel Presents...Smooth Jazz" hit number one on Billboard's current contemporary jazz charts and became a top-20 seller on Amazon.com. In spring 2008, a second "Smooth Jazz II" compilation was on Amazon.com's Top-40 list for several weeks. Both CDs are available at www.weather.com/store, Best Buy and Amazon.com.

About The Weather Channel Companies
The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) is made up of The Weather Channel Network (TWCN), The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCi), and Weather Services International (WSI). The Weather Channel® is based in Atlanta and is seen in more than 99 million U.S. households. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar spent is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. The Neville Brothers, with Aaron as one of the lead vocalists, went on to record a series of memorable albums, including Yellow Moon (for which Aaron wrote the title track). Aaron's solo career hit another high in the Nineties when Linda Rondstadt and George Massenburg produced Warm Your Heart. He won two Grammies for his duets with Linda Ronstadt on "Don't Know Much" and "All My Life," both Top Ten hits. In 1994, he won Best Country and Western Vocal Collaboration with Trisha Yearwood for "I Fall to Pieces." In this same period, he also won Best Male Singer two years running in the Rolling Stone critics' poll. After five decades of consistent hit-making, Aaron Neville has, in the words of one Rolling Stone writer, "reached a highpoint in a career marked by artistic superlatives. Bring It On Home - The Soul Classics is an album for the ages and Neville's most remarkable work to date." Aaron continues to record new music and tour internationally with both The Neville Brothers and with his Quintet featuring Charles Neville.

NEW YORK.- Univision Communications Inc., the nation's leading Spanish-language media company, today announced a strategic alliance with MasterCard Worldwide to introduce two new prepaid financial services, the Univision Prepaid MasterCard Card® (Tarjeta Univision MasterCard Prepagada®) and the Univision MasterCard Gift Card® (Tarjeta de Regalo Univision®). These prepaid cards will be available nationally in 2010 and are being developed to provide Hispanic consumers with access to relevant, flexible and valuable financial tools that can be used anywhere Debit MasterCard is accepted.

'Univision's mission is to inform, empower and entertain the Hispanic community,' said Joe Uva, president and chief executive officer, Univision. 'We recognize, better than anyone, the importance of empowering Hispanics by connecting them with financial tools and services they can trust. Our financial services offering is an extension of our 'Cuentas Claras' initiative. We're proud to partner with MasterCard, a payments leader that shares our goal of providing the tools, resources and services to empower our community.'

The Univision Prepaid MasterCard Card will offer the U.S. Hispanic community a culturally relevant, safe, cost-effective alternative to cash. The prepaid card reduces the inconvenience and costs related to cashing checks and enables consumers to better track and manage spending by providing them with the ability to monitor when and where they make purchases with the card.

'We are working closely with Univision, leveraging their unique knowledge and reputation within the Hispanic community, to develop solutions that meet the payment needs of U.S. Hispanic consumers,' said Chris McWilton, president, U.S. Markets, MasterCard. 'Many U.S. Hispanics rely heavily on cash, and in doing so fail to take advantage of the safety, convenience and reliability of electronic payments. Together with Univision we will provide access to financial products and education that benefit the Hispanic community and open the door to the mainstream financial system for many individuals who are not currently well served by it.'

According to a study by the Center for Financial Services Innovation (CFSI), approximately 40 million U.S. Households are financially underserved (106 million people), of whom 19 percent are Hispanic. In addition, 35.4 percent of Hispanic-Americans are unbanked vs. 31.6 percent of Black Non-Hispanic Americans and 11.2 percent of Other Americans (i.e., Non-Hispanic and non-Black, including Asian-Americans and Whites).

The Univision MasterCard prepaid products will be issued by The Bancorp Bank pursuant to license by MasterCard International Incorporated.

— WebWireID107071 —

Banking / Financial Services

Business Announcements

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

* NDS has launched its Recommendations Engine Partner Programme and names Jinni, the semantic discovery service, as the first company to participate
* NDS to offer the services of Jinni to its customers as a partner in Recommendation Engine based initiatives through the Recommendations Engine Partner Programme

LONDON, UK .– NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced the launch of its Recommendations Engine Partner Programme. Jinni, an innovative semantic discovery service for premium video content, is the first company to join the programme.

Through the Recommendation Engine Partner Programme, NDS will offer the services of Jinni as a partner to its customers in recommendation engine based initiatives.

Incorporating a recommendations service enables operators to offer additional content to consumers based on their current viewing profile, providing them with a powerful way to encourage subscribers to try new programmes and premium services.

Jinni's semantic approach, based on proprietary algorithms, reflects the way people think and talk about entertainment, and enables intelligent content discovery by shifting the spotlight from rigid categories and keyword search to results that match the consumer's taste.

'NDS' global experience and established relationships in the digital pay-TV industry are invaluable to expanding the reach of our service,' said Mike Pohl, Chief Executive Officer, Jinni. 'By joining this partner programme, Jinni is positioned as a crucial component of an end-to-end portfolio that will enable customers to more accurately relate to their subscribers and supply them with highly relevant viewing suggestions. Our technology dives deeper into consumers' viewing habits to make it easier for them to find a programme or movie that could potentially be their next favourite.'

Using algorithms to analyse choices and content already viewed and enjoyed by a subscriber, Jinni's semantic discovery engine provides personalised recommendations by creating a complex profile of the viewer.

'Finding new and interesting content is proving a chore for consumers – having to wade through hundreds of channels, they do not want to spend time looking for programmes to watch.
Hazy Lights Mean Risky Nights: Dim Headlights Haunt America's Cars, Reducing Visibility and Increasing Risks of Accidents

National Headlight Safety Month in October to Help Educate Drivers about the Risks of, Solutions for Headlight Safety

ST. PAUL, MN (October 1, 2009) -- There is a safety issue on America's roads that rarely comes to light -- reduced visibility, which is a factor in 2.8 million accidents, 23,000 fatal crashes and 2,300 pedestrian deaths. As Daylight Savings Time ends, and kids hit the streets trick-or-treating, the importance of clear nighttime visibility increases.

The AAIA Car Care Council found that 26 percent of the cars it inspected had issues with their lighting system. The culprits -- headlight bulbs that dim over time and hazed headlight lens. When one bulb burns out, both bulbs should be replaced, a commonly ignored automotive maintenance step.

Millions of cars on the road today have plastic headlight lenses. As cars age and are exposed to weather, they may become hazed and yellowed, reducing the light output from the headlamp. With the average age of cars on the road about 10 years old, the problem is growing. This is a common issue on many domestic and foreign automobiles, from economy to luxury vehicles.

Automotive experts Sam Memmolo and Courtney Hansen are recommending that car owners conduct their vehicle visibility safety check this fall to determine their risks and take steps to correct their visibility problems. They are offering safety tips, project ideas and how-to videos to help consumers address this issue on www.3MCarCare.com, YouTube 3M Car Care Channel and the Facebook 3M-US Car Care group.

'When you walk through a parking lot or drive in traffic today, you see a number of cars with hazed headlights, non-working lights, streaky windshield wipers and broken sideview mirrors,' said Sam Memmolo, host of 'Sam's Garage' radio show and longtime expert on car repair and restoration. 'Every one of these cars may create a danger to the driver and other people on the road. But with some basic education about car care and maintenance, all car owners can take care of these problems before they cause accidents.'

— WebWireID106960 —

Automotive

Media Advisory

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Retail

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

New York – Nov. 2, 2009 – Students from New York City public school PS 165 assisted Procter & Gamble's Bounty brand along with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation co-founder and entertainment mogul Russell Simmons, hip-hop pioneer Joseph 'Rev. Run' Simmons, American fashion designer and humanitarian Tory Burch, and artist Amanda Williams in unveiling the completed Building Bounty-ful Bridges 33-foot painted mural. The mural is a compilation of all the completed pieces of the traveling arts program that toured the nation sponsored by Bounty in partnership with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation.

Through Bounty's partnership with Rush Philanthropic, children from New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., New Orleans, and Cincinnati have collaborated in creating a large-scale painting depicting a bridge in their city and representing the 'space between us.' Youth groups in each city were able to showcase their creativity by being inspired by the city they live in and learn by doing the project with other children. This is in perfect sync with Bounty's mission to provide children with fun, hands-on activities that nurture their creativity and curiosity outside the classroom.

To bring this program to life, Rush Philanthropic Director of Education at Rush, Meridith McNeal, and featured artist, Amanda Williams, collaborated with a different youth arts organization in each city to promote artistic expression and help bring communities across the country together. 'Bounty is proud to be a part of Building Bounty-ful Bridges in recognizing art education as a priority for America's youth. Seeing the final mural truly depicts the creativity and different interpretations of each city,' said Eric Higgs, brand manager, Bounty. "Given the creative work and hands on approach Rush Philanthropic has already taken with kids around the country, they have made a great partner in bringing this program to life."

"As art has been such a pivotal aspect in my life, I want the youth of today to realize that art can transform lives and bring people together by unleashing the imagination," said Russell Simmons, chairman and co-founder of Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation and entertainment mogul. 'This partnership with Rush Philanthropic and Bounty reinforces that idea.'

After the program, each partnering organization will take turns exhibiting the completed mural allowing for this project to travel through the country.

Sunnyvale, California – October 30, 2009 – The WirelessHD® Consortium today celebrated its third year as a Consortium dedicated to the advancement of a next generation wireless digital network interface specification for mobile and stationary, consumer and enterprise applications at speeds twenty times faster than today's consumer wireless technologies. Since its inception, WirelessHD has released its first specification, launched a compliance test program and products from multiple manufacturers began shipping worldwide in early 2009.

'It has been an exhilarating three years for WirelessHD,' said John Marshall, Chairman of WirelessHD. 'We're thrilled with the Consortium's continued success marked with WirelessHD CE products available to consumers worldwide from tier 1 CE manufacturers like Panasonic, LGE, Best Buy and Monster. We remain committed to our objective of bringing to life the promise of interoperable WirelessHD technology as the best wireless home entertainment experience and look forward to expanding the WirelessHD ecosystem in areas such as portable device connectivity and wireless local area networking (WLAN).'

In just three years of existence, WirelessHD boasts over 40 leading technology companies and the world's only open 60GHz standard with an available specification and an active Authorized Test Center (ATC). Several WirelessHD consumer products have successfully passed rigorous compliance tests and are now available in Asia, North America and Europe such as the Panasonic Z1 plasma TV and LG Electronics LH85 and LHX LCD TVs. These key achievements highlight the rapid growth in membership and products, application development and interest in the Consortium.

About WirelessHD
Formed in 2006, Broadcom Corporation, Intel Corporation, LG Electronics Inc., Panasonic Corporation, NEC Corporation, Royal Philips Electronics, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, SiBEAM Inc., Sony Corporation and Toshiba Corporation, joined together to define the next generation worldwide 60GHz multi-gigabit millimeter wave technology for mobile and stationary consumer and enterprise applications. WirelessHD is the first consumer electronics and technology industry-supported, digital wireless interface for instantaneous file transfers, wireless display and docking, and simplified and lossless HD media streaming.

* The 2010 Taurus SHO takes on the challenge to win over Conan O'Brien's affection, trumping his beloved green 1992 Taurus SHO as part of a skit on NBC's 'The Tonight Show'
* The Taurus SHO returns as the sporty version of Ford's new flagship introducing a new generation of premium performance and fuel economy with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost™
V-6. This engine delivers V-8 levels of power – with an estimated 365 horsepower –
without compromising its V-6 fuel economy
* To view the video of 'The Tonight Show' sketch with the new 2010 Taurus SHO, visit www.thefordstory.com

DEARBORN, Mich. – Ford Motor Company used its head-turning 2010 Ford Taurus SHO in an attempt to break up Tonight Show host Conan O'Brien's 'marriage' on national television.

The TV star's long-running relationship with his 1992 Ford Taurus SHO was challenged when the all-new 2010 Taurus SHO made an appearance on the late-night comedy show on Oct. 29. A national audience saw firsthand whether O'Brien's steadfast love for his Jewel green SHO could be tempted with this latest sexy head-turner from Ford.

O'Brien's second-generation 'Super High Output' Taurus has been the focus of the late night comedian's skits many times including during O'Brien's premier as host of 'The Tonight Show' earlier this year.

During the skit O'Brien, who is confident there could never be a better performance sedan than his '92 Taurus SHO, is tempted by the 2010 model's 365-horespower V-6 and its high tech features. Amy Marentic, Ford's Group marketing manger for Taurus, teaches O'Brien a thing or two when it comes to the Taurus SHO.

Find out if the new 2010 Taurus SHO can win over O'Brien at www.thefordstory.com.

'We were very excited to get the chance to expose Conan to a much more modern and innovative Taurus SHO,' Marentic said. 'There's no comparison when it comes to comparing his nearly 20 year-old SHO to our new flagship but it was a lot of fun challenging him to find something about the new SHO to joke about.'

The allure of 'the sleeper' sedan
Introduced in 1989, Taurus SHO was conceived as a discreet performance-oriented sports sedan, ideally suited to the automotive enthusiast needing the room and capability of a four-door full-size car. Known and loved for its high performance and unassuming exterior, Ford Taurus SHO was launched in limited production through 1999, with more than 100,000 were sold.

Two key factors made the original Taurus SHO sedan a favorite of the automotive cognoscenti, right out of the gate. The critical element, a Yamaha-developed 3.0-liter V-6 engine delivering 220 horsepower, delivered thrust through a five-speed manual transmission. The SHO twist was design subtlety.

Traditional American high-performance cars shouted their intentions with racing stripes, hood scoops and raised white letter tire sidewalls. Taurus SHO was understated, stealth.

The original Taurus SHO generated a loyal following of owners and enthusiasts, with an active club more than 1,000 members strong, an online forum with more than 10,000 registered users and a Web site (bringbackthesho.com) specifically devoted to convincing Ford to resurrect the SHO. The 2010 Taurus product development team spent significant time listening to SHO enthusiasts.

2010 Taurus SHO off to a strong start
Launched this past summer, the all-new Taurus including the Taurus SHO is off to a strong start and even bucked the industry trend in September with sales 60 percent higher than a year ago.

The Taurus debuted to rave reviews from the automotive press, and early customer demand validates the critical acclaim. Customers are especially interested in the Taurus SHO, achieving higher-than-expected take rates of 20 percent of the overall Taurus mix.

The foundation of the new 2010 Taurus SHO is a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine. This advanced powerplant generates an estimated 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 ft.-lbs. of torque at 3,500 rpm, resulting in significantly improved power, torque and fuel economy compared with larger, normally aspirated engines. This also is Ford's most powerful EcoBoost engine.

A key element of the authentic SHO formula is the subtlety of its unique exterior design cues.
Features include sporty premium painted wheels, wrapped in standard low-profile 19-inch Goodyear Eagle or optional 20-inch Michelin high-performance tires, a decklid-mounted spoiler and twin chrome exhaust tips.

About Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company, a global automotive industry leader based in Dearborn, Mich., manufactures or distributes automobiles across six continents. With about 201,000 employees and about 90 plants worldwide, the company's automotive brands include Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo. The company provides financial services through Ford Motor Credit Company. The TCM Vault Collection Presented by Universal marks USHE's first foray into the manufactured-on-demand (MOD) arena. TCM began offering MOD featuring lost titles from the RKO library.

TCM and USHE are working to remaster a number of great titles never before available on DVD, with several never available on home video at all. The first titles made available include five chilling horror films, three early Cary Grant pictures and the unsung 1940 holiday classic Remember the Night, starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray and scripted by the great Preston Sturges. The films will be made available by request on DVD via TCM.com for the first time during the fourth quarter of 2009. TCM host Robert Osborne will provide introductions for selected titles, which will also include supplemental materials compiled by TCM and extensive material from the TCM archives. In addition, TCM will present exclusive premieres of the movies over the next six months.

"Many terrific films have been unavailable on home video for far too long, especially the holiday classic Remember the Night," Osborne said. "It's wonderful that today's movie fans will be able to enjoy these rare movies. TCM and Universal have put great effort into restoring them digitally and providing historical context, bonus material and behind-the-scenes information, something DVD collectors, like me, are sure to appreciate. I'm very pleased to be part of this great project with TCM and Universal."

For Universal, the agreement is a great way to reach avid film fans. "Universal is very proud of its prestigious collection of Hollywood screen gems," said Craig Kornblau, president, Universal Studios Home Entertainment. "Like us, TCM is deeply dedicated to honoring Hollywood's golden age. This collaboration presents the perfect opportunity to share Universal's rich cinematic legacy and celebrate vintage works with classic film fans."

The launch of TCM/Universal DVDs will be divided into three initial releases:

Universal Cult Horror Collection (films also available as singles)
DVD Availability: Oct. 31
TCM Premiere of Murders in the Zoo: Oct. 31
Suggested Retail Price: Collection - $49.99; Individual Titles - $19.99

This collection will include five rarely seen horror gems from the Universal vault, most appearing on home video for the first time. Special features include over a hundred photos, posters and lobby cards, trivia, articles and more.

Murders in the Zoo (1933) – Censors had a heyday with this horror film about a zoologist and sportsman who uses his zoo animals to kill his wife's lovers. Lionel Atwill plays the villain, with Kathleen Burke as his wife, a young Randolph Scott as the hero and the ever lovable Charles Ruggles providing comic relief as the zoo's press agent. Among the men playing Burke's doomed lovers is John Lodge, who later left acting to enter politics, becoming governor of Vermont.

Mad Doctor of Market Street (1942) – Lionel Atwill plays a mad scientist who places people into suspended animation and then revives them. When he is accused of murder following the death of one of his subjects, he flees on a ship, becomes stranded on a tropical island and soon becomes revered as a god by the natives. Una Merkel, Nat Pendleton and Claire Dodd co-star.

The Strange Case of Dr. RX (1942) – A mysterious killer bumps off acquitted murderers who have all been represented by the same lawyer, played by Samuel S. Hinds. Lionel Atwill, Patric Knowles and Anne Gwynne co-star, with Shemp Howard (on hiatus from his work with The Three Stooges) providing comic relief.

The Mad Ghoul (1943) – This creepy tale follows a mad professor, played by George Zucco, who has discovered an ancient Egyptian gas that turns anyone who sniffs it into a heart-eating zombie. David Bruce plays the doctor's assistant who gets dosed with the gas and goes on a murderous rampage. Evelyn Ankers and Robert Armstrong co-star.

House of Horrors (1946) – The legendary Rondo Hatton, whose acromegaly deformed his face and made him a frequent Hollywood villain, marked one of his last roles with this offbeat film. Martin Kosleck plays a mad artist who, after saving Hatton and making a bust of his face, uses the disfigured hulk to murder art critics. Hatton died of a heart attack the year this film was released.

Remember the Night (1940)
DVD Availability: Nov. 22
TCM Telecasts: Dec. 6 and Dec. 24
Suggested Retail Price: $19.99

This heart-warming holiday romance – penned by Preston Sturges – marked the first of four on-screen pairings of Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck and came four years before their iconic work in Double Indemnity. MacMurray plays a prosecutor who finds himself falling in love with a shoplifter (Stanwyck) during a court recess at Christmas time. The atmospheric film co-stars Beulah Bondi, Elizabeth Patterson and Sterling Holloway and was directed by Mitchell Leisen.

Remember the Night is rarely seen and received a brief home-video release on VHS. It is being now remastered and brought back to life so it can take its rightful place as a signature holiday classic. Special features on the DVD will include an introduction by Robert Osborne; still galleries, including behind-the-scenes photos; never-before-seen interview segments on the work of director Mitchell Leisen from the TCM Archives; and the original movie trailer, trivia, biographies and more.

Cary Grant Collection (films also available as singles)
DVD Availability: January 2010
Three early Cary Grant films will populate this boxed set:

The Eagle and the Hawk (1933) – This vivid World War I drama stars Frederic March as a disillusioned but fearless squadron leader and Cary Grant as his bullied gunner-observer. The gripping interpersonal drama, anti-war sentiments and outstanding aerial dogfights give this film an impact that remains vital today. Carole Lombard and Jack Oakie round out a top-notch cast. The great director Mitchell Leisen, who is billed as associate director, is believed to have directed most of this film.

The Devil and the Deep (1932) – This melodrama is headlined by Tallulah Bankhead, Gary Cooper, Cary Grant and Charles Laughton. The setting is the northern coast of Africa, where submarine commander Laughton is stationed and where his wife, Bankhead, is splitting her time between suitors Cooper and Grant. This marked Laughton's first American film and one of his most underappreciated performances.

The Last Outpost (1935) – Cary Grant plays a British officer saved from a Kurdish tribe by fellow officer Claude Rains. But when Grant unknowingly falls in love with Rains' wife, tragedy looms. Gertrude Michael and Kathleen Burke co-star under the dual direction of Charles Barton and Louis Gasnier.

Future Universal collections and titles for rollout on DVD and TCM include vintage films from Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert, Deanna Durbin, director Douglas Sirk and many more.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is a unit of Universal Pictures, a division of Universal Studios (www.universalstudios.com). Universal Studios is a part of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.

NEW YORK.- Six-Episode Series Starring Nick Swardson Will Premiere In 2010

It's Nick Swardson's party ... and you're invited! After numerous hit movies, highly-rated stand-up specials and memorable appearances on "Reno 911!," COMEDY CENTRAL greenlights a new, half-hour weekly sketch series starring comedian Nick Swardson and executive produced by Swardson, Tom Gianas, Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions and Sony Pictures Television, it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The new series is slated to begin production in November and is scheduled to premiere in 2010.

"We love Nick at COMEDY CENTRAL and even more importantly, our audience loves Nick," said Corrao. "We've seen it in his movies, his stand-up, with his 'Reno 911!' character 'Terry,' and in the work he's done developing Gay Robot. We can't wait to expand his creative voice into a sketch series."

"I'm very excited to be working with COMEDY CENTRAL," said Swardson. "They are great people who understand me creatively. They also are very good looking ... a lot of 8 and 9's in the office, guys are probably in the 4's."

Executive produced by Swardson, Gianas ("Saturday Night Live," "Human Giant"), Happy Madison and Sony Pictures Television, the fast paced live-action sketch show is a weekly series that centers around Swardon's twisted comedic viewpoint. The series will include irreverent digital shorts, man-on-the-street segments and animation inspired by the internet sensation "Gay Robot," which follows the life of a gay robot and his frat boy friends. Seth Cohen and Scott Landsman are the executives in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

Nick Swardson, a multi-talented actor, stand-up comedian and writer, was first recognized for his stand-up at the young age of 18. He has made numerous appearances on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," as well as "The Late Show with David Letterman." Swardson taped a one-hour COMEDY CENTRAL stand-up special in Austin that aired on October 11 as well as two COMEDY CENTRAL half-hour stand-up specials, his first in 2000 at the age of 22 (the youngest ever to do so) and his second in 2006. He is also well-know for his recurring role as "Terry" in COMEDY CENTRAL'S "Reno 911!" In October 2007, Swardson released his debut album, "Party," through COMEDY CENTRAL Records, and it has sold more than 135,500 copies. His second album, "Seriously, Who Farted?" was released on COMEDY CENTRAL Records this month.

On the film side, Swardson recently completed his first starring role in the Columbia Pictures feature, "Born to Be a Star," which he co-wrote and produced with Adam Sandler and Allen Covert. Additionally, Swardson's script, "Malibu's Most Wanted," was greenlit in 2003. He appeared in many films including "Blades of Glory" opposite Will Ferrell, "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," "You Don't Mess with Zohan," and "The House Bunny." He also co-wrote and appeared in "Grandma's Boy" and "Benchwarmers," as well as voicing, "Blake," in the animated film, "Bolt."

— WebWireID106780 —

Business Announcements

Entertainment

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Demonstration reinforces TANDBERG's continued investment in interoperability with Microsoft

NEW YORK and OSLO, Norway.– Today, TANDBERG® (OSLO: TAA. OL) further established its leadership in open standards with the announcement of a Unified Communications Gateway technology, demonstrating high definition video interoperability with Microsoft Office Communicator R2. This groundbreaking technology enables Microsoft Office Communicator users to experience high definition video quality when connecting to standards based systems. TANDBERG is the first company to transcode from Microsoft's Real Time Video (RTV) codec, to the industry standard H.264 video codec. With this breakthrough, TANDBERG brings absolute video quality to everyone, from the Microsoft desktop user to telepresence suite participants.

The new technology is the result of TANDBERG's long-standing partnership with Microsoft and solidifies the company's commitment to delivering the increased productivity and high-quality experience of telepresence to everyone across an organization.

'By strengthening interoperability with Microsoft and continuing to invest in their partnership, TANDBERG is sending a clear signal that the company has no intention of slowing its efforts to advance its vision of an open community of video users,' said Brent Kelly, Sr. Analyst, Wainhouse Research. 'The UC Gateway is a critical development for enabling video users to connect in the best HD quality no matter where they are or what network they're on, helping to bring value to customers and drive further adoption of video conferencing.'

"TANDBERG is breaking down the barriers to widespread video adoption and creating a standards-based video community where no one is out of reach," said Fredrik Halvorsen, TANDBERG CEO. "This Unified Communications Gateway innovation reflects our dedication to integration with Microsoft and illustrates our video-first approach to unified communications. We are connecting communication islands and delivering value to customers that goes beyond travel reduction - we are transforming the way people work at a pace unmatched in the industry."

TANDBERG will preview the Unified Communications Gateway technology at the Microsoft Tech Ed conference in Berlin from November 9-13, 2009. For a demo, please visit booth E43/E44. The solution will be available for purchase the first half of 2010.

— WebWireID106689 —

Business Announcements

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Telecommunications

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
