     <title>Ethical TV Repair Service Centers Ask For Opportunity to Serve Consumers in Wake of TV Repair 'Sting'</title>

     <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>FORT WORTH, TX &#8212; On June 5, an American Broadcasting Company (ABC) program called &#39;The Lookout&#39; featured a segment where program staff called for TV service to a single service center that had been identified as having a poor reputation. Volunteers and staff then dressed up to look like elderly consumers when the TV repair person came to their home.  They wanted to see what kind of response an elderly customer, who might be your grandmother or your parent, would receive from a TV service provider if no one else was there with the elderly person to question the service technician about necessary repair work. The service center contacted by the program for the &#39;sting&#39; was a servicer in New Jersey.  That service company has an &#39;F&#39; rating by the local Better Business Bureau and the program wanted to see if this particular service company would attempt to defraud the consumer. </p>

<p>Technical personnel from Panasonic worked with ABC to prep the TV sets used in the &#39;sting&#39; by noting the serial numbers of key circuit boards and parts so any part replacements potentially made by the service center could be verified.  Panasonic personnel also rigged a set by partially unplugging a speaker wire cable that could be easily plugged in to restore full sound operation.  In two other scenarios, they adjusted the color on a TV set with the remote and they also changed a format setting on another TV noting that it was a simple adjustment and would only take a few minutes to restore the color and format settings with no actual repair being necessary.</p>

<p>On three different occasions, this company provided repair estimates and services that were much higher coupled with parts that should not have been needed to repair the television sets.  It was revealed after approving the estimates and having the TV&#39;s &#39;repaired&#39; that no parts were actually replaced to repair the televisions in question although the service center had stated they had been replaced and billed for parts in all three cases as part of the repair process. A television journalist then set up a final service appointment whereby she revealed herself in the &#39;sting&#39; and tried to obtain comment from the technician who immediately left and refused to answer any questions. The journalist finally went to the service center and was also denied comment again from the technician and the identified owner.</p>

<p>Another service company with a similar company name, located in the same geographic area, with an &#39;A+&#39; Better Business Bureau rating began to receive threatening calls as a result of the program&#39;s airing, and respectfully appealed to the producers of the ABC show for help in letting the public know he was not the company they had featured.  ABC agreed to air additional information about the two companies to let the public know the good company was still a good company, and they have done so. Unfortunately, this does not help the remaining honest and ethical service providers that may have been affected by the conclusions drawn in the program.</p>

<p>NESDA&#39;s Board of Directors and members believe that the tone set by the program was one that left the viewer with the impression that all television service centers were dishonest although the subject of the &#39;sting&#39; operation was one unscrupulous service center in New Jersey.</p>

<p>The fiercely contested Beach Soccer World Cup returns for a fourth time, bringing sporting passion to the 2013 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity next week.</p>

<p>Teams from five continents will compete in this year&#39;s truly international edition of the Eurosport sponsored tournament.</p>

<p>Nigeria is making its tournament debut, ensuring Africa is represented alongside teams from Asia, Europe, North America and South America.</p>

<p>The Nigerians face a difficult first round, however, facing last year&#39;s winners Denmark in a group also featuring Japan and Portugal. Denmark beat Brazil in the 2012 final to claim the title and will be hoping to repeat the success again this year.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Brazil will be seeking to reclaim its 2011 title but face a tough European-flavoured group featuring 2010 winners The Netherlands alongside Sweden and the UK.</p>

<p>Elsewhere, old rivals clash in Group 3, where USA faces Russia. In Group 2 Argentina, Columbia and Ecuador will compete for South American bragging rights.</p>

<p>The tournament will be played on Tuesday 18th June and Wednesday 19th June, with the group games played between 9am and 6pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday the group winners and runners-up will progress to the quarter-finals ahead of the semi-finals and the prestigious Beach Soccer World Cup Final, which will take place at 14:30 CET.</p>

<p>Sky will commit one channel &#8211; Sky Sports Ashes HD &#8211; to cricket offering 63 days of action between 30 June and 31 August, including exclusively live ball-by-ball coverage of the Investec Ashes.  </p>

<p>The channel will also screen live county fixtures, highlights and various support shows as Sky Sports 2 HD is transformed and dedicated to cricket with no extra cost to customers. </p>

<p>Eating Alabama tells the story of a young couple who return to their home state and set out to eat the way their grandparents did - seasonally and locally. But after they&#39;ve driven nearly 800 miles criss-crossing Alabama in search of a balanced meal, they realize that everything about the food system has changed since their grandparents left the farm. This dynamic documentary about the local food movement is never overly didactic. Instead, it&#39;s an accessible and often hilarious meditation on community, the South and sustainability. <p>At the heart of the film is the story of the filmmaker, Andrew, and his wife Rashmi. Both Alabamians by birth, their return home sparks an interest in the local food movement as they wonder whether or not it would be possible to eat only food grown or raised within Alabama. Soon, they&#39;ve enlisted a few friends to embark on this journey to reconnect foodways the industrial agriculture system has broken apart. Referring back to his grandfather&#39;s experience leaving the farm in the 40s, Andrew, who also narrates, engages with his own naïveté as he soon discovers that there are few farmers left in Alabama. Encountering the lives of these farmers &#8211; most of whom struggle to make a living &#8211; the story shifts to the current realities of farming in the global economy. As he visits a farmer sued for saving seeds and a chicken grower who singlehandedly raises over a million birds each year, he discovers that the simple stories of life on the farm have mostly disappeared. But he also hears counterpoints to these corporate systems from young farmers who have embraced sustainable practices and urban farming. An essay both thoughtful and entertaining, ultimately Eating Alabama is a story about why food matters.</p>

<p>WASHINGTON, DC -- The 15th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, produced by the NAB Education Foundation (NABEF), will take place Monday, June 3 in Washington, D.C. Recognized among the top Washington events, the gala will honor radio and television broadcasters from across the country for exceptional community service.</p>

<p>The event will also include the presentation of NABEF&#39;s highest honor, the Service to America Leadership Award, to Stevie Wonder, with four-time Grammy Award nominee Oleta Adams performing a musical tribute to Wonder.</p>

<p>Among the government officials and legislators presenting awards are acting FCC Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn, FCC Commissioners Ajit Pai and Jessica Rosenworcel, Senator Richard Burr, Reps. Greg Walden, Jim Bridenstine, Kathy Castor, Eliot Engel, Jim Matheson, Chris Stewart, and Paul Tonko. A record number of members of Congress will be in attendance. Several members from the North Carolina congressional delegation will attend in support of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters, whose members will receive the President&#39;s Special Award, and North Carolina-based Lowe&#39;s, winner of the Corporate Leadership Award.</p>
