Glasgow, UK based company Endrick IT operating since 2005, today announced that it will be providing low cost leased lines without compromising service availability, speed or customer service. Endrick IT goes further by discounting larger bandwidth leased lines and waiving installation and equipment costs over longer contract periods.

Endrick IT's 2Mb to 1Gb leased circuits are suitable for any UK business with a growing dependency on reliable internet connectivity requirements including; Direct Internet Access (DIA), Point to Point (P2P), MPLS VPNs –important components when sending internet data or VoIP Data across wire.

MD, Mr E Edward-Smith said; 'We must be in the position to provide customers with affordable connectivity solutions that remain reliable at all times. Leased Lines play a big part in reducing business costs; one example is eliminating the requirement of multiple ISDN channels for traditional PBX phone systems and allowing cloud hosted VoIP systems. Another example is larger up streaming speeds (wider bandwidth) giving more remote users a faster experience'

Mr E Edward-Smith went on to say; 'Customers purchasing Leased Lines including Ethernet First Mile (EFM) who also commit to a '3 Year Contract' are rewarded by not having to pay any installation costs or any associated equipment costs. This makes our service more accessible for those businesses with constrained budgets'.

Endrick IT's main office is located in Glasgow, with engineers based in every major UK city, Endrick IT are able to provide and support up to 1Gb circuits in all regions throughout the country.

— WebWireID152213 —

Computer Networks

Internet Technology

Telecommunications

WebWire® | More Feeds

Multiven Files Antitrust Complaint Against Cisco Systems with Swiss Competition Commission

ZURICH, Switzerland. – Monday, January 30, 2012, Multiven GmbH ('Multiven') today filed an antitrust complaint against Cisco Systems ('Cisco') with the [url=http://www.weko.admin.ch/...

ZURICH, Switzerland. – Monday, January 30, 2012, Multiven GmbH ('Multiven') today filed an antitrust complaint against Cisco Systems ('Cisco') with the Swiss Competition Commission, in an effort to open up the network maintenance services marketplace for Cisco equipment, promote free and fair competition while enhancing consumer choice and value. Multiven's complaint alleges that Cisco abuses its dominant position to harm consumers by bundling and tying software bug fixes, patches and updates ("software updates") for its operating system and application software to its maintenance services ('SMARTnet') and through a series of other illegal exclusionary and anti-competitive acts designed to maintain Cisco's monopoly in the network maintenance services market for Cisco networking equipment, which represents 75% of the world's Internet infrastructure.

The complaint recites that instead of making these necessary software updates available to all customers that have purchased its operating system and application software licenses, as does Apple, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft and many others, Cisco makes these software updates only available to those customers that have purchased its SMARTnet service.

The complaint further alleges that Cisco also engages in a series of illegal exclusionary and anti-competitive acts such as (but not limited to);

Cisco coercing its 52,000 reseller partners to refuse-to-deal with Multiven and not resell better quality and/or lower cost services from Multiven – an Independent Service Organization ('ISO') – that competes with Cisco SMARTnet,

Cisco voiding the software licenses of customers that install their valid Cisco software on genuine Cisco equipment procured from Cisco-independent sources.

These acts aimed at preventing competitors like Multiven from servicing Cisco networking equipment have had the following anti-competitive and injurious effects in the Swiss marketplace for Internet network services:

Competition in the market for service and maintenance of Cisco networking equipment has been suppressed and virtually eliminated. Additionally, ISOs have been effectively precluded from competing for and earning profits on the servicing of Cisco networking equipment.

Customers have been deprived choice and forced to purchase Cisco SMARTnet maintenance services over that of substantially better quality and/or lower priced maintenance services from ISOs like Multiven; and

Consumers have been harmed because supracompetitive prices have been maintained and increased, and the quantity, quality and choice of service offerings in the marketplace has been reduced and constrained.

Multiven's requested remedies are intended to give consumers greater freedom, choice and cost savings while ensuring that the network maintenance services marketplace develops into an open, fair and competitive industry where Cisco competes solely based on the quality and value of its services.

Multiven is represented by Schellenberg Wittmer - led by Dr. Jürg Borer and Dr. Juhani Kostka.

About Multiven

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Multiven is the leading provider of affordable maintenance services for all Internet networks. Through its advocacy group, Multiven is leading a global industry-wide effort to open up the multi-Billion dollar per annum Internet network maintenance services marketplace to free and fair competition which will lead to lower operational and capital expenditure for network operators and a reduced Internet voice, video, TV and data costs for consumers.

Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced one of the most significant milestones in its history with the sale of its 1.5 billionth Series 40 mobile phone. The device was sold to a female consumer in the Brazilian city of São Paulo and represents a historic moment as Nokia continues its strategy of connecting the next billion.
The 1.5 billionth phone was a Nokia Asha 303, a stunning touch screen handset with QWERTY keypad designed for web browsing, social networking and gaming, that features pre-installed entertainment and applications such as Angry Birds Lite.

The device was purchased from a Magazine Luiza store in São Paulo by Mayara Rodrigues, a 21-year-old who loves staying in touch with friends and family through social networks.

The first Series 40 phone was the Nokia 7110 developed in 1999. Since then this family of phones has evolved to such an extent that they are considered 'Smartphone Lite' thanks to the innovations of the new Nokia Asha range.

Series 40 phones now blur the line between feature phones and smartphones. With recent innovations including Nokia Maps for Series 40, Nokia Browser and Web Apps, Nokia Money and Nokia Life Tools, millions of consumers have enjoyed easy and affordable access to the Internet and information for the first time, with locally relevant apps and content.

Mary McDowell, Executive Vice President for Mobile Phones at Nokia, said: "We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone. Having 1.5 billion Series 40 devices sold is a hard-to-reach mark, let alone one attainable in a single line of products. At a time when we are maintaining our commitment to connecting the next billion customers around the world - it is gratifying to consider how Series 40 devices have made mobile technology accessible and help continue to change people's lives for the better."

About Nokia
Nokia is a global leader in mobile communications whose products have become an integral part of the lives of people around the world. Every day, more than 1.3 billion people use their Nokia to capture and share experiences, access information, find their way or simply to speak to one another. Nokia's technological and design innovations have made its brand one of the most recognized in the world.

As a growing business, Versartis—like many companies today—began their communications search by pricing POTS (plain old telephone service) through the traditional channels, and were forced to explore what else was available that could provide similar reliability and quality. Versartis, like many start-ups before them, found the ongoing costs not only substantial, but unacceptable.

Founded in 2009, Versartis initially occupied contract office space that included basic phone service. Additional services, like teleconferencing, were sourced by third-party vendors. When the company landed at their next location as tenants later that year, they needed communication equipment and service for the four full-time employees. A primary requirement was that the system had to accommodate the anticipated growth of the company.

'We needed a phone system that was stable, cost-effective and provided good phone and handset performance in terms of features as well as clarity,' said CEO and Founder Jeff Cleland. 'When we called in the phone company, it made us re-think spending such a significant amount for traditional phone service, so we sought alternatives.'

That's when a colleague suggested United Data Voice, a Northern California telecommunications provider that specializes in start-ups and small business.

'As a growing company, we needed the usual basic features: access to an intercom, the ability to easily dial out internationally, and presence management. Conference calls are really important for us, and the true value we've extracted is the ad hoc teleconference capability. If we need to set up a conference call on the fly, the Allworx system makes it very easy.'

United Data Voice owner Sean Finney recommended the Allworx 24x combined with PRI (Primary Rate Interface) service from TelePacific. PRI provides up to 23 simultaneous phone lines at an affordable price. Finney said this allows his customer to take advantage of the four conference bridges built in to the Allworx system to host their own teleconferences. 'People using teleconferencing and presence management often can't take full advantage of their systems because of the lack of available phone lines,' Finney said. 'With PRI and Allworx, Versartis doesn't have that problem.'

With any telecommunication system, end-user training is critical to getting the most from its features. Upon initial installation United Data Voice provided a thorough overview of the phone system to all the users, easily referenced desktop materials and specialized training, as needed, for individual users. United Data Voice continues to train new users as they are added.

The company has grown to 11 employees, plus on-site consultants, which necessitated a move to a third location. 'United Data Voice did an excellent job when we transitioned to this facility,' Cleland said. 'They were very diligent about minimizing service interruption in our move, and the phone system in particular has lived up to the promise of its features with exceptional call clarity.'

About United Data Voice
United Data Voice is Northern California's premier provider of powerful, reliable voice and data products for businesses large or small. Our certified professionals have in-depth knowledge and experience installing, servicing and maintaining stand-alone and multi-networked systems.
MELBOURNE, FL/ROCHESTER, NY — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has received $4.8 million in orders from the U.S. Department of Defense for Falcon III® AN/PRC-152A handheld and AN/PRC-117G manpack tactical radios. These radios provide DoD forces all the way to the tactical edge with wideband networking for enhanced situational awareness and command and control.

This is the first time the DoD has acquired both the AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-152A in a single order. The two radios were recently deployed together at the Army's Network Integration Evaluation. In that exercise, the radios extended wideband communication capabilities across an area in excess of 3,200 square miles.

The radios together deliver battlefield networking capabilities that address the requirements of the entire combat team, from brigade to squad and on to the individual dismounted soldier. The AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-152A are next-generation software-defined radios that provide secure voice, video and data communications, enabling network-enabled missions through advanced applications such as streaming video and collaborative chat.

"This order provides the DOD with field-proven radios that will deliver mission-critical voice, video and data from the networked battlefield to its warfighters operating at the edge," said George Helm, president, Department of Defense business, Harris RF Communications. "Our Falcon III radios are enabling unprecedented communications among U.S. forces."

The AN/PRC-117G manpack is combat proven, with more than 16,000 radios shipped. The new AN/PRC-152A serves as a complement to the AN/PRC-117G, providing wideband networking and legacy voice in a lightweight, portable handheld form factor.

The AN/PRC-152A offers tactical users the broadest set of capabilities in any handheld radio. Wideband networking capabilities will initially be provided by the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform (ANW2). The JTRS Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) to be added to the radio later this year. The AN/PRC-152A also hosts SINCGARS, VHF/UHF Line-of-Sight (VULOS), HaveQuick, IW for tactical satellite communications and other combat net radio waveforms. This makes the AN/PRC-152A the only Type-1 certified wideband networking handheld radio that is also fully interoperable with deployed DoD radios.

The AN/PRC-117G is a NSA Type-1 certified wideband manpack radio system, operating both ANW2 and SRW. With its fully integrated and NSA-certified High Assurance Internet Protocol Equipment (HAIPE) networking encryption, the AN/PRC-117G provides the highest level of information assurance connectivity to tactical units. More than 16,000 AN/PRC-117G radios are deployed by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, federal agencies, and key allies such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, other NATO countries and Australia.

Harris RF Communications is the leading global supplier of secure radio communications and embedded high-grade encryption solutions for military, government and commercial organizations. The company's Falcon® family of software-defined tactical radio systems encompasses manpack, handheld and vehicular applications. Falcon III is the next generation of radios supporting the U.S. military's Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) requirements, as well as network-centric operations worldwide. Harris RF Communications is also a leading supplier of assured communications® systems and equipment for public safety, utility and transportation markets — with products ranging from the most advanced IP voice and data networks to portable and mobile single- and multiband radios.

High-tech traffic technology to help Copenhagen become CO2 neutral

Gouda - Imtech (IM-AE, technical services provider in and outside Europe) secured its first order in Denmark. The high-tech traffic management solutions by Peek (the Imtech Traffic & Infra mobility specialist) for each of the 365 road junctions in Copenhagen represent an important contribution to making the Danish capital completely CO2 neutral by 2025.

René van der Bruggen, Imtech CEO: 'Imtech (Peek) has a large installed base of high-tech traffic solutions such as traffic controllers and traffic lights, which are being used as part of an extensive upgrade involving the deployment of the latest technology and innovative traffic management systems. From this installed base we have succeeded in becoming the technology upgrade partner to the city of Copenhagen. In formal terms, this means the first Imtech order in Denmark, which is a breakthrough. An Imtech office is being opened at the same time to help us build on this start. This will further strengthen our position in the European traffic market.'

New generation of technology for 365 road junctions
The order comprises the upgrade, improvement and maintenance of all 365 road junctions in the city, including a traffic management system based on ITS technology (Intelligent Transport Systems). ITS is a collective international term for the application of information and communications technology in traffic infrastructure and vehicles for making traffic safer, more efficient, more reliable and considerably more environmentally friendly. It involves the use of the latest information technology for simulation, real-time control and communications. The overall package of technological improvements will greatly contribute towards Copenhagen's ability to meet its CSR objectives. An order has been placed for an initial phase of 10 million euro, which will be considerably expanded in due course.

First CO2 neutral city in the world
Copenhagen is seeking to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% by the year 2015, and to be completely CO2 neutral by 2025. More than 50 sustainability initiatives have been launched against this background, for public transport, the transport industry, and the complete logistic 'setting'. In 2011, 36% of the inhabitants of the Danish capital regularly travelled by bicycle; the target is for this figure to have risen to 50% by 2025. The Imtech technology is designed to give priority to cyclists and public transport, with the help of up-to-date travel information for example, and the creation of 'green waves'. At present, traffic is responsible for 21% of the city's overall CO2 emissions, but it is intended that this be reduced to 10% by 2015, thanks in part to Imtech solutions. To that end, new high-tech traffic controllers will be linked to a real-time remote monitoring system that will enable the flow of buses, bicycles, cars and freight vehicles to proceed in a sustainable and safe manner. The aim is to achieve optimal traffic flow with as few CO2 emissions as possible. This technology is partly the result of previous successful European pilot and research projects - CVIS, SAFESPOT and FREILOT - to which Imtech contributed significantly.

Active in the traffic market throughout Europe
Imtech is a strong player in the traffic market in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway, Finland), Central and Eastern Europe, and is involved with projects in other European countries. It also exports mobility solutions outside Europe. The company's objective is to further strengthen its position both in and outside the continent. Imtech is strongly placed in the urban and interurban markets, the traffic management and safety market, and in high-tech traffic centres. Besides this, Imtech is active worldwide in the market of parking technology.

— WebWireID151859 —

Environment

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Lakeland, Florida, January 22, 2012 - Software patent attorney, Steve Aycock today announced the launch of a new law practice which helps people patent their software. The law firm specializes in helping independent inventors, entrepreneurs and start-up companies patent their new technologies including software inventions. Mr. Aycock was a software engineer for ten years before attending law school so inventors will get someone with experience in both software and patent law.

The name of the law firm is Cygnet IP Law and it should do very well given Steve's background. Patenting software is a growing industry in and of itself because of the huge number of electronic devices which are being introduced to consumers almost every day and the increase in the number of software developers who are scrambling to fill the need to create applications for those devices.

The people who can benefit the most from the Cygnet IP Law firm's services are inventors in the start-up phase of their business who often have a difficult time finding an attorney to help them at a reasonable price. Steve's background as a software engineer enables him to easily understand and patent software inventions such as websites, desktop software and mobile applications.

Patenting iPhone and Droid apps is one of the firm's specialties and one of the fastest growing industries. The Cygnet IP Law firm can help software developers protect their iPhone and Droid apps from software pirates and people who steal software to sell as their own inventions. Also, inventors can lose the rights to their work if they proceed with selling or advertising a product without having a patent application on file.

Steve brings to the table the experience of having worked at a big law firm and a top twenty law school education. Steve is excited about the firm's new website which details the firm's areas of expertise and provides timely and informative articles on patent law.

About
Steve Aycock, founder of Cygnet IP Law, is a registered patent attorney and former software engineer. Steve advises U.S. and international clients in intellectual property matters including patents, trademarks and copyrights.

Lebara, one of Europe's leading telecoms operators for migrant communities, is delighted to announce a new partnership with George Weah, one of the most successful African footballers of all time.

As part of a campaign to celebrate the spirit of African football this winter, Lebara's next TV ad, due to kick-off on Eurosport on Saturday 21st January, will feature the Liberian football star in a series of short films.

The campaign, named "The Call of Africa", was created and produced by CST The Gate and will air in 59 countries across the Eurosport network. The films will show the players striking a rhythmic beat on a collection of drums, from all over the continent of Africa, assembled into a goal. As the world's original communication devices, the drums have been used to demonstrate Lebara as a global communication service. The campaign will run throughout the African football season and will promote Lebara offers to those wishing to stay in touch with family and friends back home or abroad, including £10 free call credit when a £20 top up is made.

The TV campaign will be supported by a number of promotional activities across Lebara's retail network, at outdoor venues and online. In particular, Lebara is offering 'MyLebara' registered customers an exclusive gift of 30 day access to Eurosport Player, where they will be able to watch some of the most exciting African football this season. This offer is available to 50,000 customers and needs to be activated by 30 June 2012. A dedicated Lebara football microsite, www.lebara.co.uk/football, will showcase the brand commercial as well as a film which explains how the ad was made. Fans can also create their own beat through an online app based on the commercial which can then be downloaded as a ringtone. Other promotions available include a 'Scratch & Win' promotion giving customers the chance to win merchandise including footballs, bandanas and whistles.

Yoganathan Ratheesan, CEO of Lebara Group stated: "We are proud to have partnered with George Weah and look forward to building our association with him. At Lebara, we are passionate about supporting activities, such as football, that are important to our customers. Our success is built on an in-depth understanding of our customers and our commitment to helping them stay closer to their loved ones through high quality, low cost products and services. We hope football fans will enjoy the latest TV ad which aims to entertain households as well as highlight some key Lebara Mobile offers this New Year."

George Weah spent 14 years playing professionally for England, France and Italy having started his football career in Liberia and was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 1995.

France Telecom-Orange enters into partnership with Bouygues Telecom concerning the deployment of its optical fiber networks

Paris - France Telecom-Orange and Bouygues Telecom have concluded a partnership agreement to share Fiber to the Home networks (FTTH) deployed by France Telecom-Orange across France.

Through this partnership, France Telecom-Orange will provide a service for sharing its optical fiber networks in very densely populated areas* with Bouygues Telecom for the horizontal network segment leading to the foot of buildings. In doing so, France Telecom-Orange optimizes its deployment costs by sharing the available resources of its optical fiber networks.

As a result, France Telecom-Orange will enable its partner to benefit from its network coverage in very densely populated areas. Within the buildings, Bouygues Telecom will have to build its own networks or subscribe to available cable-sharing offers. In this zone, the partnership potentially covers 1.7 million homes.

In addition, outside very densely populated areas of France, Bouygues Telecom has subscribed to the wholesale cable-sharing offer for the terminal part of France Telecom-Orange's FTTH networks. With this offer, Bouygues Telecom will potentially have access to 8.9 million homes.

France Telecom-Orange is delighted with this partnership, which marks a new milestone in the deployment of its networks and of very high-speed broadband in France by complementing the agreements signed with Free and SFR in the second half of 2011.

The agreement reinforces France Telecom-Orange's FTTH deployment goals for France and is testimony to the constructive spirit in which it is cooperating with the other market players.

For local authorities, whom France Telecom-Orange plans to associate with these deployments, the partnership provides an additional guarantee for the coverage of their territory by networks that are open to everyone.

Announced in February 2010, France Telecom-Orange's deployment program calls for an investment of 2 billion euros through 2015 to bring FTTH optical fiber to 3,600 municipalities (communes). This will provide coverage for 10 million households by 2015 and 15 million by 2020 (corresponding to 17 million homes), i.e. nearly 60% of all French households.

* The 148 largest municipalities (communes), as defined by French regulator ARCEP.

About Orange
France Telecom-Orange is one of the world's leading telecommunications operators with 170,000 employees worldwide, including 102,000 employees in France, and sales of 33.8 billion euros in the first nine months of 2011. Present in 35 countries, the Group had a customer base of 221 million customers at 30 September 2011, including 145 million customers under the Orange brand, the Group's single brand for internet, television and mobile services in the majority of countries where the company operates. At 30 September 2011, the Group had 162 million mobile customers and 14 million broadband internet (ADSL, fibre) customers worldwide. Orange is one of the main European operators for mobile and broadband internet services and, under the brand Orange Business Services, is one of the world leaders in providing telecommunication services to multinational companies.

With its industrial project, "conquests 2015", Orange is simultaneously addressing its employees, customers and shareholders, as well as the society in which the company operates, through a concrete set of action plans. These commitments are expressed through a new vision of human resources for employees; through the deployment of a network infrastructure upon which the Group will build its future growth; through the Group's ambition to offer a superior customer experience thanks in particular to improved quality of service; and through the acceleration of international development
