MUNICH, Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, today announced it is providing additional support for the nonprofit work of the Crisis Intervention Team Munich (Krisen-Interventions-Team: KIT) by making another generous donation, this time totaling more than €58,000 (US$86,600). Back in October 2008, the Company donated €78,000 (US$99,800) to KIT.

KIT Munich is a project being run by the Worker's Samaritan Federation (ASB), Munich/Upper Bavaria chapter, in which specially qualified voluntary emergency rescuers help, advise and support people immediately after serious incidents. The project is mainly financed by donations and funds from the ASB. Support for KIT Munich has originated out of Qualcomm's Munich office, once again underlining Qualcomm's worldwide commitment to social responsibility.

'The previous donation by Qualcomm last year marked the inception of the KITz project, an initiative aimed at children. What's more, we were able to make long overdue investments, among them a new uniform and repairs to our emergency vehicle,' says Peter Zehentner, head of KIT Munich. 'The renewed support from Qualcomm has enabled us to finally buy a new emergency vehicle so that we are always ready to go into action. The donation also ensures that KITz can continue to provide special support and advice for children who need uncomplicated help after traumatic events, as well as for their parents and guardians.'

'At Qualcomm, we believe that by supporting worthwhile local organizations such as KIT we can have a major impact on their success,' says Thomas Nindl, business development director at Qualcomm Germany. 'As an honorary employee of the ASB, I know the organisation very well. They have done an exceptional job meeting the needs of children suffering from extreme shock and traumas.'

Qualcomm's dedication to being a socially responsible company reaches beyond company borders. Among other achievements, it has been named among FORTUNE magazine's lists of the 100 Best Companies to Work For in America and Most Admired Companies for 10 years in a row.

— WebWireID108245 —

Business Announcements

Not for profit

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Moms and Dads Can Help Good Children Text Their Holiday List to Santa and Keep Track of Him on the Big Night

Dallas, Texas, Good little boys and girls across the country can text their holiday wish-list to Santa and track Santa's sleigh journey faster than ever this year, thanks to the bearded man in red and some of his helpers, including AT&T.* According to the North Pole, Santa has decided to use the latest digital tools to spread holiday cheer through a holiday texting campaign and a special app on AT&T U-verseSM TV.

AT&T customers who text SANTA to 1224 between now and Dec. 24 will receive an invitation from jolly old St. Nick himself to text back their wish-lists for this holiday season. Thanks to a special agreement between Santa and AT&T, text messages sent to this short code – and the reply text messages from Santa – will be offered at no charge.

Families can also keep up with Santa and enjoy holiday fun for the whole family with a new interactive Santa Tracker app and on-demand holiday entertainment on AT&T U-verse TV. This year, U-verse TV families will be able to visit the North Pole and follow Santa's every move on Christmas Eve with Santa Tracker. The app is now available to all U-verse TV and High Speed Internet customers at no extra charge on channel 98 for the holiday season.

'If you think Santa and the elves are fast at making toys, you should see them texting! It was clearly the season to go digital,' said Susan Bean, North Pole representative for Santa Claus. 'We wanted to give children out there more ways than ever to send Santa their wish-lists and watch what's going on at the North Pole. So when AT&T offered to make it easy for their customers to text the North Pole and keep dibs on the crew on U-verse TV, we knew we had to jump on it.'

With Santa Tracker, families will be able to read bios for Santa's reindeer; get holiday arts and crafts project ideas; play sing-a-longs for popular holiday music; read facts about the North Pole; play 'Gingerbread Man' and 'Repeat' holiday games; and view a countdown to Christmas Eve. You will also be able to vote on whether your family deserves a visit from Santa in the 'Naughty and Nice' poll, and you can see instant polling results from other U-verse TV families. And on Christmas Eve, you can watch live reports from the Santa News Network to see if Santa has left the North Pole and track his sleigh as he travels around the globe.

AT&T U-verse TV also has a new 'Happy Holiday Movies' section in the On Demand library featuring classic holiday movies. The movies range from $2 to $7 per rental, and are available in Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD) or both. From Dec. 14 through Dec. 20, U-verse TV customers can get $1 off their rental of 'Nothing Like the Holidays' by entering coupon code '15001' for SD and '115001' for HD in the Offers On Demand app on channel 199.

For details on how to keep up with Santa this holiday, tips and hot deals on gifts that don't come from the North Pole, and ways to personalize your wireless experience, AT&T invites you to visit www.att.com/holidaygifts — especially if you have made Santa's 'Nice' list.

*AT&T products and services are provided or offered by subsidiaries and affiliates of AT&T Inc. under the AT&T brand and not by AT&T Inc.

About AT&T
AT&T Inc.
CSR achieves WAPI certification for CSR9000 with an innovative hardware accelerated architecture and wins EDN China Innovation Award

Industry accreditation brings benefits of CSR's leading Wi-Fi to the Chinese market

Cambridge, UK - CSR (LSE: CSR) today announced that its award-winning CSR9000 Bluetooth + Wi-Fi product has been certified under China's Wireless LAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI) qualification. CSR's CSR9000 solution was also awarded the EDN China Innovation Award for Leading Embedded System and IC Product.

WAPI is a critical product certification in China for Wi-Fi security. This certification makes CSR's embedded Wi-Fi an ideal option for China's many OEMs developing leading wireless technologies for the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The WAPI standard affects all mobile devices with Wi-Fi functions, and defines the specification and testing methods in the physical layer interface. In order to achieve certification, the Wi-Fi function must be tested in accordance with the specification issued by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

CSR's approach to Wi-Fi security is considerably more advanced than most of the traditional alternatives on the market. By using a hardware encryption engine we believe CSR9000 achieves significantly faster throughput than other solutions which rely on slower software implementations of the WAPI. This swift throughput advantage translates into a noticeably improved user experience, with web pages and other content downloading at much faster speeds.

Sebastian Koh, Vice President Asia Pacific, CSR said, 'China is an important market for CSR, which is why we have invested in an optimised hardware solution to implement WAPI encryption. The CSR9000 Bluetooth + Wi-Fi combination has enjoyed a good response from other regions. WAPI certification will allow Chinese customers to benefit from the small size of CSR9000. CSR's hardware-based approach to encryption means that we don't use up any of the precious processing power of the mobile device performing encryption algorithms. This means that consumers benefit from noticeably faster response times in the transfer of data and files, as the processor is freed up to deal with user applications rather than encryption issues."

Qin Zhi Qiang, General Secretary of the WAPI Alliance commented, 'It is good to see that CSR has implemented WAPI in its CSR9000 products. Wireless security is an important issue for consumers today, and the adoption of WAPI helps to address these concerns. We're also pleased with CSR's commitment to WAPI in investing in a hardware-based solution. This allows users to benefit from excellent security without sacrificing throughput."

With ABI Research estimating that in 2009 alone the Wi-Fi chipset shipments for smartphones will be over 100 million units, the potential for the China market for Wi-Fi enabled phones is already a significant opportunity and is expected to grow substantially by 2012. This potential for growth may be stimulated primarily by the projected increasing consumer demand for Wi-Fi enabled smart phones. Wi-Fi enabled phones have access to faster internet connections than can be achieved over cellular connections, providing subscribers with access to more services and data features whilst on the move.

CSR has also been presented with a leading electronics industry award for its innovative connectivity combo solution at a ceremony held on Wednesday evening at the Seaview City Hotel in Shenzhen. The EDN China Innovation Award, for Leading Embedded System and IC Product, was awarded to CSR's CSR9000 solution. Readers of EDN China were able to vote for all the awards. CSR9000 enables the smallest connectivity modules with sizes less than 60mm2 and is now in mass production.

About CSR
CSR plc is a leading provider of multifunction connectivity and location platforms. CSR's technology portfolio includes Bluetooth, GPS, FM, Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11), UWB, NFC and other technologies to enable silicon platforms that incorporate fully integrated radio, baseband and microcontroller elements. CSR's Connectivity Centre is designed to enhance the user experience with mainstream mobile devices by intelligent integration of multiple wireless connectivity and location-awareness technologies. CSR's Location Platforms are complemented by wireless connectivity and multimedia capabilities for high-volume mobile consumer devices and commercial applications.

CSR's technology has been adopted by market leaders into a wide range of mobile consumer devices such as mobile phones, automobile navigation and telematics systems, portable navigation devices (PNDs), wireless headsets, mobile computers, mobile internet devices, GPS recreational devices, digital cameras, mobile gaming, plus a wide range of personal and commercial tracking applications.

More information can be found at www.csr.com

FORWARD LOOKING STATEMENTS
This press release contains certain statements (including statements concerning plans and objectives of management for future operations or performance, or assumptions related thereto) that are 'forward looking statements' within the meaning of the United States Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 in relation to WAPI certification for CSR9000, the Chinese market, CSR9000's throughput speed, user experience and Wi-Fi-chipset shipments, and related events and their potential effects on CSR.

Melville, NY - Chyron (NASDAQ:CHYR) today announced that Post-Newsweek Stations' have implemented Chyron's AXIS maps online content creation services to generate state-of-the-art maps for its local stations.

With Post-Newsweek Stations including KPRC (Houston); WDIV (Detroit); WPLG (Miami-Fort Lauderdale); WKMG (Orlando); KSAT (San Antonio); and WJXT (Jacksonville) working in a centralized graphics hub environment, the addition of AXIS maps was a good selection, providing news producers with the ability to create localized graphics utilizing templates at their desktop.

Design Hub Director Felicia Steiger said, 'The online aspect of AXIS is very appealing because there is no additional equipment to purchase or install. AXIS maps allows for map customization; banner design; and road and land colors, all of which can be stylized to match clients' on-air graphic package.

'The core benefit is placing control directly into the hands of the person telling the story. It's the producer who controls the parameters of map creation based on the specifics of their story. From an artist's perspective, AXIS maps removes the 'producer mind reading quotient'; that is, a producer gets what a producer wants and determines the elevation and reference points necessary to tell the story, rather than relying on an artist's interpretation of the information provided. For example, in a multi-city hub environment, AXIS maps provides the tools for producers familiar with local roads to produce maps that are more finely tuned to their story. We are very pleased with the product.'

Chyron CEO Michael Wellesley-Wesley added, 'We are delighted that the Post-Newsweek Stations have adopted AXIS maps for their broadcasts. Because of the online nature of AXIS, users are finding that cycle time from creation to air is drastically reduced and productivity is greatly enhanced. It is clear that AXIS online services will continue to play an increasingly vital role in the future of graphics production for television broadcasters, both on-air and on-line.'

About Chyron
As the pioneer of Graphics as a Service for all digital video media Chyron continues to define and dominate the world of digital and broadcast graphics with Web, Mobile, HD, 3D, and newsroom integration solutions. Winner of numerous awards, including two Emmys, Chyron has proven itself as the undisputed leader in the industry with sophisticated graphics offerings that include Online, Chyron's AXIS Graphics online content creation software, HD/SD switchable on-air graphics systems, clip servers, channel branding and telestration systems, graphics asset management and XMP integration solutions, the award-winning WAPSTR mobile phone newsgathering application as well as digital signage.

First In-vehicle Emergency Calls over Wireless Networks Completed

SAN DIEGO - Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies, products and services, and Hughes Telematics, Inc. (HTI), a leader in providing next generation telematics solutions, have successfully demonstrated the data transmission technology of the upcoming pan-European, in-vehicle emergency call (eCall) standard over commercial wireless networks at the 12th eSafety Forum Plenary meeting, 'eCall Summit', held in Brussels, Belgium on October 29, 2009.

The use of eCall to deploy emergency assistance will save lives and reduce the social burden of road accidents. The creation of eCall standards and requirements has been triggered by the eSaftety Forum, an initiative of the relevant stakeholders, brought together by the European Commission. An eCall is generated either manually by vehicle occupants, or automatically via activation of in-vehicle sensors, in the case when an accident occurs. When activated, the eCall-enabled, in-vehicle system establishes a 112-voice connection directly with the relevant Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). At the same time, a Minimum Set of Data- including key information about the accident such as time, location and vehicle description - is sent to the PSAP operator receiving the voice call.

Technology provided by HTI and Qualcomm, including an eCall in-band modem, was used to make a call to a prototype of an eCall-enabled PSAP located in Germany. Once the voice call was established, the eCall in-band modem protocol was used to transmit the Minimum Set of Data to the PSAP. The eCall modem was fully integrated on the Qualcomm QSC6270™ chipset embedded in the demonstration unit.

'Safety and security is the cornerstone of our telematics offering,' said Erik Goldman, president of Hughes Telematics, Inc. 'Working with Qualcomm to support this initiative in Europe confirms our commitment to the global industry to enhance driver safety and provide a timely and efficient response during emergency situations.'

'Qualcomm has spent the last several years developing eCall technology and standards to further the public objective of helping to save lives on roads,' explains Ed Tiedemann, senior vice president of engineering at Qualcomm. 'We are pleased to collaborate with Hughes Telematics on developing and demonstrating an eCall solution that will ultimately enable automakers to integrate this capability in all vehicles."

About Hughes Telematics, Inc.
Hughes Telematics, Inc. (NYSE Amex: HTC) is a leader in implementing the next generation of connected services for the automobile. Centered on a core platform of safety and security offerings, the company develops and manages vehicle- and driver-centric solutions to enhance the driving and ownership experience.

Country Reaches 4.65 Percent Penetration as Regions Outside Bogota Gain Broadband Market Share

BOGOTA, Colombia, Cisco announced today the results of the Cisco Broadband Barometer, which reported a 14 percent growth in broadband connections in Colombia from January to June 2009.

According to the study, 254,000 broadband connections were added during the first half of the year, when the country had reached 2,066,742 connections and a 4.65 percent penetration.

As shown by the barometer, growth was reported outside the metropolitan areas. The participation of the regions went from 16.6 percent to 29.9 percent of the total broadband market.

The first edition of Cisco's Broadband Barometer established a country goal of 3.5 million connections by 2010. Colombia will need to gain nearly 1.5 million additional connections by December 2010 to reach this goal.
Key Results:

    * More than half (59.3 percent) of broadband connections are between speeds of 512 kilobits per second and 1 megabit per second. Connections with speeds of 1 Mbps or higher represent 29 percent of the market and will continue to increase. This trend was also shown in the Cisco Visual Networking Index study, which predicts that Internet traffic will increase between 2007 and 2012, due mainly to video.
* The market analysis by segment conducted during the first half of 2009 shows that home connectivity represents 80 percent of total broadband connections, followed by the enterprise segment with nearly 20 percent.
* The home segment grew 14.8 percent. The strategy of service providers to take advantage of TV subscriber contracts generated the increase.
* The enterprise segment grew 10.6 percent during the first half of 2009.
* Small and medium-sized businesses account for 19,5 percent of broadband connections in the country.
* Three-quarters (75 percent) of broadband connections are concentrated in metropolitan areas, and only 25 percent are in the rest of the country.
* Bogota continues to have the greatest broadband penetration in the country (12.30 percent).
* Antioquia (6.41 percent), Boyaca (5.87 percent) and Eje Cafetero (4.05 percent) were the regions that led in broadband penetration during the first half of this year.
* The regions with the lowest broadband penetration were Cundinamarca (3.31 percent) and Valle-Choco-Nariño (2.18 percent).
* ADSL-type connections and fixed wireless connections had a 12.9 percent growth. Cable modem connections grew 16.5 percent, and Internet dedicated lines (dedicated IP) decreased by 1 percent.
* The mobile broadband market in Colombia grew 185 percent during the first half of this year. The country reached 704,000 mobile broadband connections.
* Mobile broadband distribution by segments reveals that the home segment leads with 88 percent of all connections. The enterprise segment represented 12 percent of the market.
* According to World Bank, high-speed broadband networks will enable the creation of new companies that could produce software, applications and information technology services. The information technology services industry can address key development challenges by creating jobs, increasing productivity and exports, and promoting social inclusion.

Supporting Quotes:

    * Simbad Ceballos, general manager, Cisco Colombia

"Broadband connections offer a unique and profitable opportunity to increase productivity and competitiveness, in addition to providing a way to surpass physical and geographic restrictions and offer services to citizens. According to studies done by the World Bank, a 10 point percentage increase in broadband Internet connections corresponds to a 1.3 point percentage increase in economic growth."

"Accelerating broadband penetration is a country goal that must have support by both public and private sectors. Colombia has had a constant growth in terms of numbers of connections. Nonetheless, it is critical to increase efforts to provide broadband to the masses and reach penetration percentages that are competitive on a global level. Also, improving the quality of connections and providing access to rural areas of the country are necessary to improve the connectivity conditions in Colombia."

— WebWireID108180 —

Business Announcements

Internet Technology

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

With Tele Atlas maps and content, QA Technologies' fleet vehicle tracking service can report vehicle locations to the nearest address and provide a summary of each vehicle's data, including total daily running time, number of stops and improved dispatching.

'As we strive to provide flexible fleet management solutions for both major enterprises and the millions of independent truck drivers, we are excited to work with Tele Atlas to leverage the newest maps and content,' said Brock Eidem, CEO, QA Technologies. 'By ensuring our tools have the most powerful location content, we can enable our customers to save fuel costs and increase the visibility and efficiency of their mobile workers, which will also help to improve customer service.'

'With lower consumer spending, reduced freight volumes and volatile fuel prices, trucking companies have increasingly invested in fleet management systems to maximize their efficiency,' said Jonathon Husby, Vice President of Automotive, Transportation and Telematics, Tele Atlas. 'By working with QA Technologies and supporting the company's expansion into new industries, we can enable cost-effective solutions that help mobile enterprises be more competitive and improve profitability.'

QA Technologies offers two core fleet management solutions, AccutrAVL and AccutreQ.net, along with recently released AccuFreight.net. AccutrAVL's fleet knowledge tools are designed to fit commercial service fleets by providing owners with real-time, downloadable reports to identify expenditures. The AccutreQ.net enterprise software and reporting system provides a full suite of features designed for less-than-truckload (LTL), truck load and multi modal carriers. It builds on the AccutrAVL offering with additional reporting and functionality and provides automated electronic driver logs, tracks fuel consumption, and allows for real-time communication with drivers.

QA Technologies' AccuFreight.net is designed for the independent truck driver market and to help improve the shipping industry as a whole. It helps create a nationwide network to link freight brokers with independent drivers, communicating which trucks are loaded or unloaded and allowing them to be easily matched to the nearest pick-up or drop-off point. With AccuFreight, managers no longer need to call multiple truck drivers to match shipping routes, cargos, trailers or schedules and can greatly improve efficiencies.

About Tele Atlas
Tele Atlas delivers the digital maps and dynamic content that power many of the world's most essential navigation and location-based services (LBS).

New Cell Sites Added to Keep Residents Connected to Text, E-mail, Music and Mobile Web.

SCRANTON, PA.
* Improves coverage and capacity at Snö Mountain Ski Resort, as well as the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain
* Provides access to high-speed wireless broadband service
* Part of $100+ million network investment in Philadelphia Tri-State Region in 2009

Wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Mobile Web on the Verizon Wireless high-speed 3G network will be easier and faster for Scranton skiers and Old Forge residents this winter, thanks to the activation of two new cell sites in Lackawanna County.

The first new site increases coverage and capacity at Snö Mountain Ski Resort including in the resort's lodge and along Montage Mountain Road, as well as at the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain.

The second site enhances coverage and capacity throughout the boroughs of Old Forge, Moosic and Duryea, as well as along Route 11 from Avoca to the intersection of Interstate 81, Main Street, South Main Street and McAlpine Street.

With the improved network coverage, customers can use their wireless devices to send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high-quality videos; and access VZ Navigator(SM)'s turn-by-turn directions, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls. The Verizon Wireless network also is built for reliability during emergencies, such as power outages and extreme weather conditions, with redundancy capabilities in place to maintain service for customers when they need it the most.

These network enhancements are part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. Verizon Wireless has invested more than $145 million to enhance services and coverage across central, northeastern and southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware so far in 2009, bringing the network investment in the region to more than $1.3 billion since 2001.

Verizon Wireless has the largest and most reliable 3G network coverage area in the United States. It's 3G data network provides its customers in more locations than any other wireless carrier the ability to browse the Web faster with quicker page loading times, quickly download and play music, watch streaming video, send e-mails with attachments, download and play 3D games, video conference with contacts and rapidly share files. View a map of Verizon Wireless' 3G coverage, compared with competitors' 3G coverage at http://vzwmap.verizonwireless.com/dotcom/coveragelocator/images/maps/3Gcomparison.pdf.

"We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on," said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless' Philadelphia Tri-State Region."Our 3G high-speed Mobile Broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010."

Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the third quarter of 2009 when the company reported a total of 89 million customers. For the sixth consecutive year, the company led the industry in customer satisfaction in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) survey.

During the third quarter, Verizon Wireless customers sent or received an average of 1.7 billion text messages each day, totaling more than 153 billion text messages, 7.2 billion more than last quarter. Customers also sent 2.8 billion picture/video messages and completed 38 million music and video downloads during the quarter.

Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and test women drive more than 90 specially-equipped vehicles nearly one million miles each year on the country's most frequently traveled roadways to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

— WebWireID108080 —

Business Announcements

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

BOCA RATON, FL -- Over the past thirty years, traditional medical alert systems have enabled seniors and other individuals to live independently, with the ability to notify emergency personnel of problems with a pendant, watch or other electronic device. The limiting factor to this technology, however, has been the requirement of users to remain within close proximity to a receiver or base unit, inhibiting the ability to travel outside of a few hundred feet from their home.

As a solution, a Florida-based healthcare technology company has announced the launch of a new patent-pending, cellular and GPS-enabled mobile personal emergency response system (M-PERS) for seniors and those with special medical needs.

Headquartered in Boca Raton, Medical Mobile Monitoring has launched MobileHelp™, offering 24/7 medical and emergency monitoring services with real-time notification capabilities through the use of a GPS and cellular-enabled help button.

When subscribers need help, they simply press their help button and are connected via two-way voice to a central monitoring station that is live 24/7/365. By year's end, the new technology will also allow family members to see the location of their loved ones over the Web and be notified via mobile phone and email.

'MobileHelp addresses many of the limitations that exist with traditional medical alert systems currently on the market, namely the problem of the current technology only working in the home,' said Elias Janetis, founder and CEO of Medical Mobile Monitoring. 'Statistics show that 40% of fall-related injuries happen outside the home and only MobileHelp will have someone covered in these instances.'

'With our system, individuals are no longer confined to their homes and will have help when and where they need it with our anywhere help button,' he added.

The patent-pending technology has taken nearly four years to develop and gives peace-of-mind to family members and caregivers. The product is beneficial for those who desire to live independently and need access to emergency assistance at the touch of a button, no matter their location.

Medical Mobile Monitoring offers its product through a subscription-based service that requires a small monthly monitoring fee. Cost for the service and unit are comparable to the older products that are currently on the market.

'We are able to deliver significantly more features for about the same cost or less as the older in-home technology,' said Janetis. 'MobileHelp is a cost-effective way to significantly improve the quality of life of individuals and their families.'

In addition to its GPS medical alert system, Medical Mobile Monitoring also offers ClassicHelp, a traditional in-home medical alert system.

The company is currently offering free activation and a free month of service to anyone upgrading from a traditional alert system through year's end.

For more information, visit http://www.mobilehelpsys.com or call 1-877-827-6207.

# # #

— WebWireID108034 —

Health Care / Hospitals

Internet Technology

Medical / Pharmaceuticals

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

A contract will be signed today in Berlin with Freenet AG on the acquisition of 100 percent of its shares in Strato AG and Strato Rechenzentrum AG. The companies' supervisory boards approved the plan. The transaction is yet to be approved by the competition authorities.

"This step boosts our position on the highly interesting market for hosting solutions," said Niek Jan van Damme, Member of the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom for fixed-network and mobile business in Germany. "Strato complements our activities in the hosting area perfectly and will make a positive contribution to net profit and free cash flow from the very first day of consolidation," said van Damme.

The transaction will make Deutsche Telekom number two for webhosting products in Germany. Strato's products, which include e-mail, websites, blogs, and online shops as well as data storage services on physical and virtual servers, are primarily aimed at consumers and small business customers. The Berlin-based company operates around 4 million hosted domains and employs 502 staff.

This press release contains forward-looking statements that reflect the current views of Deutsche Telekom management with respect to future events. These also include statements on market potential, statements on finance guidance, as well as on the dividend outlook. They are generally identified by the terms "expect," "anticipate," "believe," "intend," "estimate," "aim for," "goal," "plan," "will," "strive for," "outlook" or similar expressions and often include information that relates to net revenue expectations or targets for adjusted EBITDA, profit or loss, earnings performance, and other indicators, as well as personnel-related measures and workforce adjustments. Forward-looking statements are based on current plans, estimates and projections. They should therefore be considered with caution. Such statements are subject to risks and uncertainties, most of which are difficult to predict and are generally beyond Deutsche Telekom's control, including those described in the sections "Forward-Looking Statements" and "Risk Factors" of the Company's Form 20-F annual report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Among the relevant factors are the progress of Deutsche Telekom's workforce reduction initiative, the restructuring of operating activities in Germany, and the impact of other significant strategic or business initiatives, including acquisitions, dispositions, business combinations, and cost reduction measures. In addition, regulatory decisions, stronger than expected competition, technological change, litigation and regulatory developments, among other factors, may have a material adverse effect on costs and revenue development. Furthermore, changes in the economic and business environments – for example, the current economic slump – in markets where we, our subsidiaries and affiliates operate, the enduring instability and volatility on the global financial markets, as well as exchange rate and interest rate fluctuations can also adversely affect our business development and the availability of capital at favorable terms. If these or other risks and uncertainties materialize, or if the assumptions underlying any of these statements prove incorrect, Deutsche Telekom's actual results may be materially different from those expressed or implied by such statements. Deutsche Telekom can offer no assurance that its expectations or targets will be met. Deutsche Telekom does not assume any obligation to update forward-looking statements to take new information or future events into account or otherwise. Deutsche Telekom does not reconcile its adjusted EBITDA guidance to a GAAP measure because it would require unreasonable effort to do so. As a rule, Deutsche Telekom does not predict the net effect of future special factors due to their uncertainty. Special factors and interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (including impairment losses) can have a significant effect on Deutsche Telekom's results.

In addition to figures prepared in accordance with IFRS, Deutsche Telekom presents non-GAAP financial performance measures, including EBITDA, EBITDA margin, adjusted EBITDA, adjusted EBITDA margin, adjusted EBT, adjusted net profit, free cash flow, gross debt and net debt. These non-GAAP measures should be considered in addition to, but not as a substitute for, the information prepared in accordance with IFRS. Non-GAAP financial performance measures are not subject to IFRS or any other generally accepted accounting principles. Other companies may define these terms in different ways. For further information relevant to the interpretation of these terms, please refer to the chapter "Reconciliation of pro forma figures" posted on Deutsche Telekom's website (www.telekom.com) under the link "Investor Relations."

— WebWireID108061 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Financial Markets

Internet Technology

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

STAMFORD, Conn. - Gartner, Inc. has identified the top 10 consumer mobile applications for 2012. Gartner listed applications based on their impact on consumers and industry players, considering revenue, loyalty, business model, consumer value and estimated market penetration.

'Consumer mobile applications and services are no longer the prerogative of mobile carriers,' said Sandy Shen, research director at Gartner. 'The increasing consumer interest in smartphones, the participation of Internet players in the mobile space, and the emergence of application stores and cross-industry services are reducing the dominance of mobile carriers. Each player will influence how the application is delivered and experienced by consumers, who ultimately vote with their attention and spending power.'

'The ultimate competition between industry players is for control of the 'ecosystem' and user experience, and the owner of the ecosystem will benefit the most in terms of revenue and user loyalty,' Ms. Shen said. 'We predict that most users will use no more than five mobile applications at a time and most future opportunities will come from niche market 'killer applications'.'

The top 10 consumer mobile applications in 2012 will include:

No. 1: Money Transfer
This service allows people to send money to others using Short Message Service (SMS). Its lower costs, faster speed and convenience compared with traditional transfer services have strong appeal to users in developing markets, and most services signed up several million users within their first year. However, challenges do exist in both regulatory and operational risks. Because of the fast growth of mobile money transfer, regulators in many markets are piling in to investigate the impact on consumer costs, security, fraud and money laundering. On the operational side, market conditions vary, as do the local resources of service providers, so providers need different market strategies when entering a new territory.

No. 2: Location-Based Services
Location-based services (LBS) form part of context-aware services, a service that Gartner expects will be one of the most disruptive in the next few years. Gartner predicts that the LBS user base will grow globally from 96 million in 2009 to more than 526 million in 2012. LBS is ranked No. 2 in Gartner's top 10 because of its perceived high user value and its influence on user loyalty. Its high user value is the result of its ability to meet a range of needs, ranging from productivity and goal fulfillment to social networking and entertainment.

No. 3: Mobile Search
The ultimate purpose of mobile search is to drive sales and marketing opportunities on the mobile phone. To achieve this, the industry first needs to improve the user experience of mobile search so that people will come back again. Mobile search is ranked No. 3 because of its high impact on technology innovation and industry revenue. Consumers will stay loyal to some search services, but instead of sticking to one or two search providers on the Internet, Gartner expects loyalty on the mobile phone to be shared between a few search providers that have unique technologies for mobile search.

No. 4: Mobile Browsing
Mobile browsing is a widely available technology present on more than 60 percent of handsets shipped in 2009, a percentage Gartner expects to rise to approximately 80 percent in 2013. Gartner has ranked mobile browsing No. 4 because of its broad appeal to all businesses. Mobile Web systems have the potential to offer a good return on investment. They involve much lower development costs than native code, reuse many existing skills and tools, and can be agile — both delivered and updated quickly. Therefore, the mobile Web will be a key part of most corporate business-to-consumer (B2C) mobile strategies.

No. 5: Mobile Health Monitoring
Mobile health monitoring is the use of IT and mobile telecommunications to monitor patients remotely, and could help governments, care delivery organizations (CDOs) and healthcare payers reduce costs related to chronic diseases and improve the quality of life of their patients. In developing markets, the mobility aspect is key as mobile network coverage is superior to fixed network in the majority of developing countries. Currently, mobile health monitoring is at an early stage of market maturity and implementation, and project rollouts have so far been limited to pilot projects. In the future, the industry will be able to monetize the service by offering mobile healthcare monitoring products, services and solutions to CDOs.

No. 6: Mobile Payment
Mobile payment usually serves three purposes. First, it is a way of making payment when few alternatives are available. Second, it is an extension of online payment for easy access and convenience. Third, it is an additional factor of authentication for enhanced security. Mobile payment made Gartner's top 10 list because of the number of parties it affects — including mobile carriers, banks, merchants, device vendors, regulators and consumers — and the rising interest from both developing and developed markets. Because of the many choices of technologies and business models, as well as regulatory requirements and local conditions, mobile payment will be a highly fragmented market. There will not be standard practices of deployment, so parties will need to find a working solution on a case-by-case basis.

No. 7: Near Field Communication Services
Near field communication (NFC) allows contactless data transfer between compatible devices by placing them close to each other, within ten centimeters. The technology can be used, for example, for retail purchases, transportation, personal identification and loyalty cards. NFC is ranked No. 7 in Gartner's top ten because it can increase user loyalty for all service providers, and it will have a big impact on carriers' business models. However, its biggest challenge is reaching business agreement between mobile carriers and service providers, such as banks and transportation companies. Gartner expects to see large-scale deployments starting from late 2010, when NFC phones are likely to ship in volume, with Asia leading deployments followed by Europe and North America.
No. 8: Mobile Advertising
Mobile advertising in all regions is continuing to grow through the economic downturn, driven by interest from advertisers in this new opportunity and by the increased use of smartphones and the wireless Internet. Total spending on mobile advertising in 2008 was $530.2 million, which Gartner expects to will grow to $7.5 billion in 2012. Mobile advertising makes the top 10 list because it will be an important way to monetize content on the mobile Internet, offering free applications and services to end users. The mobile channel will be used as part of larger advertising campaigns in various media, including TV, radio, print and outdoors.

No. 9: Mobile Instant Messaging
Price and usability problems have historically held back adoption of mobile instant messaging (IM), while commercial barriers and uncertain business models have precluded widespread carrier deployment and promotion. Mobile IM is on Gartner's top 10 list because of latent user demand and market conditions that are conducive to its future adoption. It has a particular appeal to users in developing markets that may rely on mobile phones as their only connectivity device. Mobile IM presents an opportunity for mobile advertising and social networking, which have been built into some of the more advanced mobile IM clients.

No. 10: Mobile Music
Mobile music so far has been disappointing — except for ring tones and ring-back tones, which have turned into a multibillion-dollar service. On the other hand, it is unfair to dismiss the value of mobile music, as consumers want music on their phones and to carry it around. We see efforts by various players in coming up with innovative models, such as device or service bundles, to address pricing and usability issues. iTunes makes people pay for music, which shows that a superior user experience does make a difference.

Additional information is available in the Gartner report 'Dataquest Insight: The Top Ten Consumer Mobile Applications for 2012." The report is available on Gartner's website at http://www.gartner.com/resId=1205513.

About Gartner:
Gartner, Inc.

Toys, Games, Books Being Collected for Distribution to Local Domestic Violence Agencies throughout New England.

WILMINGTON, MA — To make the holidays a little brighter for children whose families are being helped by domestic violence agencies, Verizon Wireless is conducting its 'Kids In Need' Holiday Drive for the ninth consecutive year at its Communications Stores throughout New England.

From November 16th through December 15th, stores across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont will each 'adopt' a local domestic violence agency and will serve as collection points for new, unwrapped toys, games, and books for children ranging in age from infants to teens. In addition, Boston's historic Quincy Market in Faneuil Hall will serve as a central collection point for Eastern Massachusetts starting November 9th. Verizon Wireless has organized this outreach as a part of the company's continued support of survivors of domestic violence and their families via its HopeLine® program.

'One in three women reports being abused at some point in her lifetime, but it's not just these women who are victims of domestic violence,' said Ken Dixon, president of the New England Region for Verizon Wireless. 'Children all across New England are affected, and while domestic violence agencies work overtime to ensure their safety and help them to start over, oftentimes these families are left with just the bare essentials. The Kids in Need drive helps to provide a brighter holiday season for the youngest victims of domestic violence, through providing the toys, books and games that many children throughout New England are able to take for granted.'

Media partners for the drive are Clear Channel radio stations WERZ, WHEB, WSKX, WQSO, WGIN and WMYF in New Hampshire and 920 WHJJ-AM and B101 (WWBB-FM) in Rhode Island, as well as WDEV in Vermont.

The Kids In Need Holiday Drive is one component of the Verizon Wireless HopeLine program, created to put wireless products and services to work to prevent domestic violence and raise awareness of the issue. Today, the multi-faceted program includes a wireless phone recycling program (accepting no-longer-used wireless phones - any make or model, from any wireless carrier), financial support for regional and national non-profit domestic violence organizations, community and corporate awareness programs, and partnerships with agencies, professional sports teams, law enforcement, educational institutions and corporations nationwide. No-longer-used phones can be donated to HopeLine at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores year-round.

Since 2001, when phone recycling and reuse became key elements of HopeLine, wireless customers have donated nearly 6.5 million old phones to the program. As a result, Verizon Wireless has distributed approximately $7 million in cash grants and more than 80,000 phones, with more than 228 million minutes of free wireless service, to domestic violence prevention agencies and organizations throughout the country for use by victims of domestic violence. Through HopeLine's recycling efforts, more than 1 million no-longer-used wireless phones have been disposed of properly; more than 170,000 pounds of batteries have been recycled; and more than 200 tons of electronics waste and batteries have been kept out of landfills.

— WebWireID108026 —

Business Announcements

Consumer Electronics

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

New IT Security Consulting Services Help Power Companies Meet Reliability Standards

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - The utility industry's ongoing adoption of smart grid digital technology is bringing many conservation and cost-saving benefits, and with them some unprecedented cyber security threats. To help electric utilities meet these evolving challenges and opportunities, Verizon Business unveiled on Wednesday (Nov. 18) a new suite of professional consulting services.

The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) has established critical infrastructure protection (CIP) standards for the nation's bulk energy system. Verizon is offering compliance and readiness assessments to help utilities meet the 2010 NERC CIP requirement to be Auditably Compliant (AC) - the highest level of compliance - subject to spot checks and audits.

"Smart grids require savvy professionals to protect these digital networks from cyber threats," said Rilck Noel, vice president and managing director for Verizon Business' global energy and utility practice. "As the power industry employs more Internet protocol (IP)-based controls and machine-to-machine communications to monitor and control power generation, transmission and distribution, we can apply our security, IT and IP communications expertise to help accelerate the adoption of smart grids."

(NOTE: To listen to a podcast about Verizon Business' role serving the utility industry, visit: www.verizonbusiness.com/resources/media/index.xml?urlid=130469. Under Verizon's security management program (SMP), experts assess and analyze an organization's security practices and procedures.

Verizon Business takes a 360-degree approach to security. This covers the Verizon network, or cloud; across the edges of the network, where applications are handed off to a customer's premises; as well as the devices connected to a customer's network. Using ISO 27002 controls, SMP can assess security at key layers of an extended utility enterprise including employees, customers, partners and suppliers.

Stimulating Smart Grid Adoption

Verizon provides the essential wireline and wireless technology that will underlie the secure, efficient and effective delivery of energy via smart grid and smart meter initiatives. Through a dedicated team of sales, service and technical experts, Verizon Business can aid electric utilities' secure transformation to a network-based, data-centric power industry.

This year for the first time BT's charity online giving platform, the eDonate platform, will be used by all call centres to record and process pledges made in support of BBC Children in Need via the donation line - 0345 733 2233. Since it was launched in 2002 the eDonate platform has processed donations approaching £100 million which has been banked by charities supported by BT. Donations made to BBC Children in Need 2009 will take the figure past the £100 million milestone.

In total 5,000 volunteers will man 52 call centres across the UK handling pledges made to the donation line. The eDonate platform can handle 500 transactions a second and 24,000 people can simultaneously input. As call centre volunteers input donation pledges directly into BT's eDonate platform, it removes the reliance on paperwork and speeds up the time it takes for pledges to be recorded and processed allowing the charity to access to the money quicker; it is also a more secure process.

Last year participating call centres handled more than 200,000 calls on the night and a record-breaking £20.8 million was pledged to positively change the lives of children and young people who have suffered hardships, difficulties or disadvantages of some kind.

BT has supported BBC Children in Need since the first telethon in 1980 and continues to provide support including; telephony, network management, call centres, volunteers and online support. Another exciting development for BT this year will see the LED display at the BT Tower in London used to profile the BBC Children in Need appeal with an animation of Pudsey Bear and the donation line number - 0345 733 2233.

Beth Courtier, community investment programme manager, said: 'BT's support is an essential and integral part of the appeal. The show is live and BBC Children in Need relies on the BT infrastructure and its people to deliver on the night. This year with donations from the public being directly input to BT's eDonate platform it will enhance the service we provide. BT supports charity telethons because this is where we can use our expertise to help make a difference to those in need. With BT's help,

BBC Children in Need is hoping to break the half a billion pound mark of the total funds raised since it began. This will be a milestone we can all be proud of.'

As with every telethon, BT employees are encouraged to have fun and raise funds. Research shows that 98 per cent of BT employees believe it is important that BT supports telethon events; 87 per cent felt more positive about BT as a result of the company's support for charity telethon appeals.

This years' BBC Children in Need appeal will be aired on the 20th of November. Cast members from EastEnders will be handling some calls from BT Tower and a host of other stars have pledged their support or committed to perform in aid of Children in Need including Pixie Lott, Paulo Nutini, Cheryl Cole, Westlife, Annie Lennox and Harry Connick Jnr. Everyone involved will help to raise money for BBC Children in Need, which works to help disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

— WebWireID107991 —

Lifestyle / Society

Not for profit

Publishing / Information Services

Telecommunications

Youth / Children

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
