(Saugus, Ma) Established synthetic ice rink and event planning company, Artificial Ice Events, has been working across the country this season, with happenings at major universities, corporate conferences, headline casinos, and city festivals.

On October 4th a synthetic ice rink was constructed in downtown Boston, MA on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, the city's newest park, as a focal attraction of their 'Try Something New' Fall Festival.

According to Mike Gallant, President of Artificial Ice Events, 'An Artificial Ice Events rink was an anchor activity at the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy's fall festival…families enjoyed teaching young ones to skate in the comfort of short sleeves.'

Gallant explained, 'The application speaks to the organization's mission of maintaining and programming the Greenway with sustainable (green) practices.' The synthetic rink also allowed the Conservancy to test the public attraction of a rink without the high costs involved with a traditional ice arena.

This autumn has been an active time for the company, with a wide variety of events produced and locations visited. In September the company provided the ice arena for the Classic Chill Fest at the Seminole Casino in Hollywood, Florida featuring performances by Vanilla Ice.

A professional ice show with a cruise ship theme was recently produced for the W.B. Mason sales conference at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Six Olympic level performers skated to a live band with a 30 minute choreographed performance.

This fall the company created a student skating party at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey. Hundreds of skaters took to the ice with a live DJ on hand and a fireworks display to close the evening.

Artificial Ice provided the synthetic ice rink for the Bauer National Sales Conference in Boca Raton, Florida last month. The ice surface allowed the sales force to experience the new line of Bauer hockey skates in a realistic skating environment.

About the Company

Artificial Ice Events specializes in the construction of synthetic ice rinks and provides professional event planning for clients across the nation.
Ski & Trek Offer Tips on How to Cut the Costs of your Ski Holiday this Year

As a result of the recession, even the most avid skiers are beginning to wonder if they can afford a skiing holiday this year.

The team at Ski & Trek, the company at the forefront of North West skiing retail, have come up with not one, but two excellent ways to beat the recession and get your holiday plans back on piste this year.

Firstly, they suggest that rather than forking out for flights, you get in your car and drive to the Alps. You won't be alone. Last winter ferry company P&O reported a significant rise in winter car and passenger traffic, despite the fact that overall the number of Britons taking ski holidays fell by 13 per cent.

According to P&O's Brian Rees, "Many of those extra cars and passengers were heading for the Alps."

The Ski & Trek team are so confident that this is a cheaper alternative to flying, they actually did it themselves last year, "Last winter I drove to the Swiss Alps; it's a breeze compared to how it was 20 years ago."

"The autoroutes cost about £55 each way in tolls, depending on your destination, and it took me (without breaking speed limits and stopping only for diesel, coffee, sandwiches and the occasional leg stretch) just over seven hours from Calais to parking outside my accommodation in Villars, Switzerland."

On top of this cheap alternative to flying, Ski & Trek are offering to kit-out a family of four in ski-gear for just £340. The package is set to include both adult male and female outfits and two kids' Dare2b freeride outfits. What's more, customers who quote this article when they contact Ski & Trek will be eligible to receive a further 10% off.

Don't let the recession stop you from enjoying a great skiing holiday this year - simply follow Ski & Trek's advice and you're guaranteed to have great fun for a great price.

Ski & Trek were established in 2008 with the sole aim of offering quality all-weather clothing for the discerning, price-conscious customer.

Dr. Michael Bixby of the Little Silver based Atlantic Center for Advanced Dentistry was one of only 5 dentists in the nation, selected to go to the New Orleans Saints training facility in Louisiana this September to fit the team with the Pure Power Mouth Guard (PPM). The PPM is a comfortable, custom-fitted oral appliance that uses computer technology to pinpoint and capture the ideal bite position. Studies have shown that when the mouth, bite and jaw are in perfect alignment, athletic performance improves dramatically, whatever the sport. Balance, flexibility and efficiency of movement are all improved. The PPM Mouth Guard is already being used by members of the NY Giants, and many professional athletes from the worlds of baseball, golf, boxing, and even drivers.

Dr. Bixby said being with the team for two days was a surreal experience. 'We fitted some of the finest athletes, one right after the other, so much talent in one room. These are true professionals who take their performance seriously. They were all so easy to work with.' Bixby himself fitted Guard Tim Duckworth, Safety Chip Vaughn, D.E. Will Smith, Connecticut's star T.E. Tyler Lorenzen and W.R. Tim Meachem, to name a few.

The Pure Power Mouth Guard technology is not reserved for professionals. 'We fit all kinds of athletes with the VERY SAME technology and guards the pros use. Some just want increased performance on the golf course or tennis courts; others are college athletes looking for every chance to improve. We've even found that singers and speakers benefit from wearing a PPM.'

Getting a Pure Power Mouth Guard is a simple two visit procedure. The first is a highly specialized but pain free fitting appointment that lasts about two hours. During the second appointment, the patient goes home with the mouth guard.

For more information on the PPM mouth guard, to see photos or blog with Dr. Bixby about his experiences with the pros, visit http://www.purepowermouthguard-ppm.com

About Dr Michael Bixby
Dr. Michael Bixby, DMD, FAGD is a General, Cosmetic and Neuromuscular/TNJ Dentist practicing at the Atlantic Center for Advanced Dentistry in Little Silver, NJ.

http://www.CosmeticDentists-NJ.com

— WebWireID107109 —

Health Care / Hospitals

Lifestyle / Society

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Honda Performance Development's Formula F Initiative Approved by SCCA

Engine Sanctioned by Board of Directors for Use in 2010

The Board of Directors of the Sports Car Club of America has ratified a Honda Performance Development, Inc. proposal to begin supplying Honda Formula F engines for competition in the SCCA's Formula F (FF) class in 2010.

Through its introduction to the category, HPD hopes to strengthen FF's position as the first step in American open-wheel racing.

"We look forward to launching our FF program at the outset of the 2010 club racing season," said Erik Berkman, president of Honda Performance Development. "We hope that this initial step in HPD's new grassroots motorsports initiative will help make the FF class more affordable and more competitive."

The Honda Formula F engine is based on the Fit L15A7, a 1.5-liter engine that can be installed into several existing FF chassis. Testing has shown that the Honda engine provides performance equal to the long-out-of-production "Kent" engine, while featuring a modern fuel-injected design with superior service life, improved availability and lower operating costs.

A prototype, utilizing a Swift DB-1 chassis and HPD-developed bolt-on conversion kit, made its public debut during the FF 40th Anniversary Celebration at Road America in late July. The Swift-Honda, along with a Honda FF engine mated to a Citation chassis, was also on display during last month's SCCA National Championship Runoffs at Road America.

The Honda FF engine has been developed by Honda Performance Development in cooperation with Sandy Shamlian of Quicksilver RacEngines. The engine was developed to equal the performance of the Kent powerplant through utilization of an HPD-developed intake restrictor plate and appropriately mapped Engine Control Unit (ECU). If additional performance adjustments are required, changes can be made to the restrictor plate and/or the ECU maps to achieve this goal.

"Many of us, myself included, have been involved in FF racing," said Marc Sours, HPD Production Division Manager and Large Project Leader for HPD's grassroots projects. "We believe that introduction of the modern, less-expensive Honda FF engine can restore interest in and raise the profile of FF to a point where it once again becomes the place for young drivers to begin their careers, and where current SCCA club racers will find economical, close competition."

Original equipment in the 2009 Honda Fit, the L15A7 is a fuel-injected, 1.5-liter, overhead cam engine, at the beginning of its current production generation. Per Honda corporate policy, a minimum of 10 years' parts support is mandated at the conclusion of production.

HPD will supply all parts from intake through exhaust, including multiple chassis conversion kits. The result will be a modern and reliable engine requiring minimal maintenance and tuning.

Specifically, HPD expects to offer FF competitors the opportunity to reduce their engine operating costs. Engine rebuilds will be reduced, while competitors should also experience a reduction in the need for top-end refreshing. In addition, crankshaft and valve-spring life should be extended dramatically; and most ignition and all carburetor maintenance will be eliminated.

The first conversion kit offered will be for the venerable Swift DB-1. This complete, race-ready package will sell for $11,750. It will include a base L15A7 engine, FF engine conversion kit (including intake, exhaust, dry sump, restrictor plate and ECU), and a bolt-in DB-1 chassis conversion kit, to permit installation of the engine without welding or other major modifications. Individual component parts will also be available for purchase separately.

Delivery of kits will begin in early February of 2010 and will follow in the order that requests are received. Deposits of $500, which will ensure a place on the delivery list, are being accepted. For more information, please contact:

Honda Performance Development, Inc.
661-702-7777
grmsadmin@hra.com

HPD is working on two additional conversion kits for the Swift DB-6 and Van Diemen (1999-current) chassis. Market release of these kits is also expected prior to the 2010 club racing season.

Beginning with its initial entry into Formula One in 1964, Honda has a lengthy record of involvement in open-wheel racing around the world. In addition to its well-known accomplishments in IndyCar, CART and Formula One competition, Honda Motor also has an extensive history as an engine supplier in lower open-wheel formulae, including Formula 3, Formula Master, Formula Nippon and Formula Dream.

Honda Performance Development (HPD) is Honda's racing company within North America. Founded in 1993, and located in Santa Clarita, Calif., HPD is the technical operations center for Honda and Acura's high-performance racing cars and engines. In addition to its new grassroots motorsports business, HPD is the single engine supplier to the IndyCar Series and spearheaded Acura's championship-winning efforts in the 2009 American Le Mans Series.

Quicksilver RacEngines (QSRE) is a private company in Frederick, MD owned and operated by Sandy Shamlian since 1973. QSRE engines have been a staple in open-wheel and sports-car racing, logging countless professional and amateur race wins and championships in the USA, England, Venezuela, Australia & Canada in classes such as Zetec F2000, Formula Continental, Sports 2000, Formula Atlantic, and FF1600.

— WebWireID107032 —

Automotive

Business Announcements

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

100 days to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games
1000 days to the London 2012 Olympic Games

Paris/Vancouver/London - Atos Origin, the Worldwide Information Technology (IT) Partner for the Olympic Games, is beginning the 100- and 1000-day countdown to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the London 2012 Olympic Games, respectively.

'As Worldwide IT Partner for the Olympic Games we are delighted to confirm that with 100 days to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and just less than 1000 to the London 2012 Games the implementation of the technology for the information systems is on track,' said Patrick Adiba, executive vice president for the Olympic Games at Atos Origin. 'As long-standing partner to the International Olympic Committee, we are committed to delivering a flawless performance to ensure the Games are successful in Vancouver in 2010 and in London in 2012.'

In 100 days Atos Origin will begin bringing real-time results from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games to a global audience of 3 billion people. First it will lead the technology team to complete testing of all the IT infrastructure, systems and processes including simulating the three busiest days of competition during which about 500 operational scenarios will be executed (such as a flood and network disconnection). It will also deploy 5,800 computers, 800 servers and 5,000 PCs to 35 venues in just 10 weeks and in January will switch to operational mode to manage and monitor 24/7 the technology at all the competition and non-competition venues.

Meanwhile in London there is just under 1000 days to the 2012 Games. Like the athletes who are hoping to take part in the Games, Atos Origin must prepare extensively between now and the opening ceremony. As lead integrator, Atos Origin will work with its partners under the direction of LOCOG's Technology Department to design the extensive technology infrastructure and systems that will deliver the results and support the planning and operations of the Games.
This will include developing the volunteer portal that will help London 2012 recruit up to 70,000 volunteers for Games time; conducting more than 200,000 hours of testing to ensure that the technology provided for the Olympic Games delivers a gold winning performance and processing 200,000 accreditations that serve as a visa for athletes, workforce, volunteers, media, sponsors, officials and other members of the Olympic Family to enter the UK as well as accessing the Olympic venues.

Atos Origin designs, integrates, manages and secures the multiple Information Technology systems needed to manage the Olympic Games and the systems that communicate the results to the world. Atos Origin holds the largest sports-related IT contract in the world. The contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) encompasses Salt Lake City in 2002, Athens in 2004, Torino in 2006, Beijing in 2008, Vancouver in 2010, and London in 2012. It was renewed in 2009 for Sochi in 2014 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

About Atos Origin
Atos Origin is a leading international information technology (IT) services company, providing hi-tech transactional services, consulting, systems integration and managed operations to deliver business outcomes globally. The company's annual revenues are EUR 5.5 billion and it employs 50,000 people. Atos Origin is the Worldwide Information Technology Partner for the Olympic Games and has a client base of international companies across all sectors. Atos Origin is quoted on the Paris Eurolist Market and trades as Atos Origin, Atos Worldline and Atos Consulting.

— WebWireID106846 —

Entertainment

Internet Technology

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Sports

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Olympia - With only 113 days until the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the Olympic flame was lit today in Olympia, symbolically marking the beginning of the Torch Relay that will bring the flame to the shores of British Columbia.

The flame was lit successfully by a Holy Priestess in front of the Temple of Hera, according to the traditional ritual, using the sun's rays and a parabolic mirror. The priestess entered the Ancient Olympic Stadium with the torch and handed it over to the first runner of the Vancouver 2010 Torch Relay, Vassilis Dimitriadis. The Greek skier passed by the tomb where Pierre de Coubertin's heart is buried, to launch the journey of the Relay.

After a short relay in Greece, the flame will be passed to the Vancouver 2010 Organising Committee (VANOC) on 29 October in Athens, before being flown to Victoria, Canada, where it will arrive on 30 October. It will then travel through all 13 provinces and territories of Canada, involving 189 community celebrations and covering some 45,000 kilometres, before entering BC Place Stadium on 12 February 2010. More than 12,000 torchbearers will bring together tens of thousands of people to witness the event, bringing with it a symbolic message of peace across the country.

In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, Mr Spyros Capralos, and the CEO of VANOC, John Furlong, IOC President Jacques Rogge said in his speech: 'It is always a special moment to be in Olympia, the birthplace of our Movement. The Olympic torch and flame are symbols of the values and ideals which lie at the heart of the Olympic Games. The relay carries a message of friendship and respect to millions of people of different nationalities, races and creeds'.

'The longest national Olympic Torch Relay in history will create a spirit of global community and world citizenship. It will inspire new hopes, new dreams, particularly among the younger generation, to take part in the Games. It will invite Canadians and visitors from around the world to gather and celebrate the Games with glowing hearts,' Rogge added.

Three days ago, the UN General Assembly adopted the Olympic Truce Resolution for the Vancouver Games, inviting the UN member States to observe and promote peace during Games time in order to protect the interests of athletes and sport in general, and to contribute, through sport, to the quest for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to the world's conflicts. The Olympic Torch Relay that started today in Olympia will allow the people of the world to be inspired by this message of peace.

— WebWireID106344 —

Entertainment

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Honda's longstanding legacy of trend-setting machines contains one bright shining star after another, enough to populate the entire sky. Among this host of stellar bodies, however, shines one of the best and brightest machines ever to spring from the Honda clan: the VFR series of motorcycles. Immediately upon its debut in 1983, the VF750F Interceptor wielded more than enough bright-think technology to rewrite the rules in the sport bike class, and its leading-edge performance made it an immediate hit with riders and the motorcycling press.

This modern liquid-cooled V-4 engine and rectangular-section frame and race-bred chassis--startling innovations back in the day--literally advanced the state of the art in both horsepower and handling. Over the ensuing decades, these forward steps and more to follow gave the VFR spectacular credentials that led to accomplishments beyond count, including AMA and World Superbike championships, as well as best-in-class awards and top-10 honors gathered up year after year from all directions within the enthusiast press. It's no wonder that the VFR in its many iterations developed a firm standing as one of the most-beloved motorcycles ever to set a tire to pavement.

During the course of a lifespan that stretches more than a quarter-century, the VFR ushered new technology to the marketplace as it was developed. In fact, during the 1990s, VFR development sprinted so far forward Honda split its V-4 line in two as the racing-oriented RC30 and RC45 advanced in concept and execution to win ever-greater glory on tracks the world over, while the VFR/Interceptor evolved into the preeminent street-going sport bike for those who enjoy the challenge of the road and the thrill of giving their bike a thorough workout, whether over short distances or the long haul.

Now this heritage of innovation within Honda's V-4 lineup enters the next generation of new technology and uncompromising rider benefits--with the 2010 VFR1200F. Here in the VFR1200F, we fully recognize Honda's V-4 heritage and VFR tradition, but it has been re-created in astonishingly original form through the fusion of advanced concepts imported from the MotoGP world and other cutting-edge environments. Net result: a sport motorcycle created for the sheer joy of riding, a machine custom tailored for experienced hands who ride hard, ride long, ride far and ride often.

Advanced technology

    * Honda MotoGP engine technology and architecture
* Light and compact 1237cc liquid-cooled 76-degree V-4
* Unique cylinder layout with rear two cylinders located innermost on the crankshaft; front cylinders located outboard
* Symmetrically Coupled Phase-shift Crankshaft uses 28-degree crankpin offset to eliminate primary engine vibration
* Asymmetrical exhaust lengths between front and rear cylinders
* Throttle By Wire
* Lightweight and compact Unicam® valvetrain
* Continuous oil pressure monitoring
* Optional dual-clutch automatic transmission featuring manual mode and automatic mode with D and S modes and paddle-style shifters
* Honda slipper clutch in manual-shift model
* GP technology layer-concept aero fairing
* Honda Pro Arm® single-sided swingarm with single shock
* Next-generation shaft drive system with offset pivot point and sliding constant-velocity joint
* New controls with smoother and more precise tactile feel
* New-technology seat construction

Engine
At the heart of the VFR1200F rests a light and compact 1237cc liquid-cooled 76-degree V-4 engine that draws directly from Honda's V-4 RC212V MotoGP technology. Mass centralization plays a key role throughout this design, and as a result the VFR1200F incorporates a unique cylinder layout placing the rear two cylinders inboard in the center of the crankshaft, while the front cylinders are located outboard. Such a configuration narrows the rear cylinder head substantially as well as the entire rear section of the engine, right at the key rider/motorcycle interface--the seating area. Because the engine boasts remarkably slim dimensions, especially at the rear cylinders--overall, it's more compact than the engine from the 781cc Interceptor--the entire chassis and seating area of this 1237cc machine features a distinctly narrowed profile. These pronounced, wasp-waisted ergonomics allow the rider to sit down in the bike rather than feeling perched atop the machine, and as another benefit the rider has a shorter reach down to the ground when bringing the bike to a stop.

The VFR1200F engine also incorporates a special high-strength Symmetrically Coupled Phase-shift Crankshaft that features a 28-degree crankpin offset that works in concert with the 76-degree Vee angle to essentially negate primary engine vibration for smooth running. And because the powerplant now has perfect primary balance, the need for a balance shaft is eliminated, which allows for a more compact engine and also yields a weight savings of nearly 3 pounds. To accentuate the V-4 feel of the VFR1200F, a unique ignition sequence of 104 degreesā€'256 degreesā€'104 degreesā€'256 degrees between cylinder firings highlights the distinctive VFR beat. Another design element that adds to the VFR1200F's distinctive feel can be found in the exhaust system: note that the head pipes for the two front cylinders carry a substantially longer length than the headers for the rear cylinders, a Honda first. This asymmetrical pipe length alters the tuning of the exhaust pulses to create a unique power delivery, an intriguing blend of V-4 torque and aggressive in-line rush. And make no mistake: the VFR1200F delivers Honda's famous V-4 power in spades, as more than 90 percent of peak engine torque kicks in at a mere 4000 rpm, giving this machine incredible roll-on acceleration in every gear.

A great deal of credit for the VFR1200F's compact engine size and prodigious power output must go to the Unicam valvetrain, a Honda-exclusive system that first debuted on the championship-winning CRF450R motocross machine. A single overhead camshaft directly actuates two intake valves per cylinder while integrating roller rocker arms with screw-type adjusters to actuate two exhaust valves per cylinder. This Unicam technology saves weight and space over a comparable dual-overhead-camshaft design while still maintaining a five-digit redline of 10,200 rpm. As another benefit, this Unicam setup allows for a very flat combustion chamber for a quicker, more efficient burn.

Another concept carried over from MotoGP design and first offered to the public with Honda's CRF® motocross line is the application of a sealed crankcase system that maintains a mild negative pressure to minimize mechanical pumping or "windage" losses. This system also provides the advantages of a dry sump design (decreased oil churning losses) without the separate oil tank. A scavenging pump pulls oil and gasses out of the crank chamber, and this reduction in atmospheric pressure reduces resistance as the reciprocating engine elements--crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods--move. Net result: extra power, enhanced throttle response and improved fuel efficiency. The VFR1200F also incorporates a new, more sophisticated constant oil-pressure monitoring system that has the ability to read a range of variations in oil pressure within a safe operating zone, not just report the presence of minimal oil pressure or no pressure.

The new VFR1200F sports another first for Honda among its numerous technical credentials; the use of a Throttle By Wire (TBW) system. With the throttle valve layout in the Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system now freed from the restrictions imposed by a mechanically linked/actuated throttle-grip system, the VFR1200F's TBW setup can be made more compact and lighter than conventional cable-operated systems. In addition, this setup incorporates an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) to process information from rider throttle control input, engine speed via a crankshaft position sensor, manifold absolute pressure, gear position, vehicle speed, engine coolant and intake air temperatures, and throttle position help the TBW system to return an even more accurate throttle response in a manner that is more sensitive to rider inputs--large or small--compared to a mechanically linked system, yet with fuel delivery that is smoother and more precise than would be otherwise possible.

The end benefit for the rider is an unprecedented level of control and feel through the throttle, a true next-generation, more direct level of connectivity with the machine that heightens the riding experience. In addition, the VFR1200F's TBW system eliminates the need for the Idle Air Control Valve used in other Honda PGM-FI systems to deliver a consistent idle; TBW simply delivers more sensitive and accurate fuel metering response to rider input compared to mechanically linked PGM-F1 systems regardless of riding conditions. From where the rider sits, TBW works virtually invisibly to improve engine responsiveness and operation, provide a more linear and well-connected throttle feeling, and also improve fuel efficiency.

As befitting of a super-sophisticated sport machine, the VFR1200F can be had with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or with the option of an impressively new piece of technology for motorcycles, Honda's Dual Clutch Transmission, the world's first fully automatic motorcycle dual clutch transmission for large-displacement sport bikes. This new transmission offers riders the enjoyment of full sport riding capabilities along with easy and seamless operation, while also delivering fuel efficiency equal to or better than a conventional manual transmission. To respond to rider demands throughout a broad range of conditions and situations, the transmission offers three operating modes: two full-auto modes (D-mode for regular operation and S-mode for sporty riding), and a six-speed gear-select mode for full rider control via a paddle-shifter-type setup that delivers the same shifting response as a manual transmission. For more details, see the attached technical description of this innovative Honda Dual Clutch Transmission.

In keeping with its serious sporting abilities, the conventional manual-shift VFR1200F comes equipped with a slipper clutch mechanism. This system acts like other Honda slipper clutch systems to moderate the effect of deceleration torque (or "back torque") on the rear wheel during aggressive corner entries with heavy engine braking, thereby allowing engine braking to slow the bike without causing the rear tire to chatter. It's an elegantly simple way to lend the assistance of a slipper clutch to sport riders with a minimum of weight and complexity.

Along with the VFR1200F's substantial sporting prowess come additional high-tech features that create a riding experience laden with many sophisticated touches. Case in point: the VFR1200F incorporates four dampers within the engine and drivetrain to smooth power delivery: a clutch damper, final damper, cam damper and tornado damper all work in concert to create smooth power delivery without losing that connected feel between throttle and contact patch.

Chassis
The VFR1200F rolling chassis centers on a four-piece aluminum twin-spar diamond configuration frame that is both lightweight and rigid. The swingarm and driveshaft lengths are optimized without extending the overall length of the motorcycle through the use of another clever and sophisticated touch: the output shaft is placed below the transmission countershaft to create a more compact engine and allow for a longer swingarm without extending the total wheelbase--a move that enhances both handling and traction without resorting to dimensions beyond the moderate 60.8-inch wheelbase.

Honda's distinctive single-sided Pro-Arm swingarm is placed within a wide-span frame swingarm pivot area for increased chassis rigidity, and the swingarm pivot sits in an offset position above the driveshaft. This highly developed shaft drive system features a drive shaft that passes below the swingarm pivot. This allows a wider swingarm pivot/frame mounting structure resulting in greater strength and rigidity. A sliding constant velocity (CV) joint compensates for drive shaft length variations throughout the rear wheel's arc of travel. Thanks to this new configuration and the rigidity of the pivot structure, the new shaft drive system enhances cornering ability, high-speed handling and traction capability compared to prior-generation shaft drives.

The VFR1200F's single-sided Pro-Arm® swingarm system incorporates a single Pro-Link® gas-charged shock that includes a handy, easy-to-alter remote spring preload adjuster, and the shock is also adjustable for rebound damping. The shock delivers 5.1 inches of wheel travel, while up front the 43mm inverted cartridge fork delivers 4.7 inches of travel and also offers spring preload adjustability. All together, this combination of adjustability in the suspension at both ends give the VFR1200F a broad range of application, be it hard sport riding, more casual long-distance trips or two-up adventuring.

The VFR1200F also features sophisticated brake technology that complements its sporting abilities. Powerful new six-piston front calipers act on large 320mm floating discs and the two-piston rear caliper works against a 276mm disc. Honda's Combined Braking System (CBS) creates the optimal balance of front and rear braking forces. With this particular CBS setup, actuation of the front brake lever activates all pistons in the right-side caliper, and four pistons on the left side; the other two pistons are actuated when the rear brake is applied. However, to maintain equal braking force when the front brake is applied, those right-side pistons measure 25mm in diameter while in the left caliper the pistons measure 27mm and 30mm in diameter. In this case, asymmetrical brake pistons equal balanced braking loads--another bit of forward thinking that makes the VFR1200F so advanced. Also, the addition of a compact and lightweight ABS supports both the motorcycle's exceptional sports riding potential and its long-distance proficiency.

A balance of positive and negative bodywork surfaces gives the VFR1200F a light, open look while also creating a profile that slices through the wind with the least possible resistance. In addition to this modern, cutting-edge look comes a number of distinct benefits. Closer inspection reveals that Honda's designers and engineers worked together to utilize this uniquely attractive shape to also generate optimal airflow and maximize heat management. The fairing design incorporates two layers that harness flowing air to gain several dynamic advantages. Air entering between the layers and through two oval-shaped spaces in the front of the fairing is channeled to enhance the bike's handling at higher speeds and cool the engine, and air is also deflected around the rider's legs for a cooler, more comfortable ride.

Engine cooling is optimized by effectively increasing the speed of the airflow before it reaches the radiators by channeling it through tapered apertures. An additional vent in the side of the bodywork directs air downwards for engine cooling. And the hot, exhausted air is channeled away from the rider for greater comfort. Further ducting and heat shielding technology channel heat away from the rider's environment, thus improving comfort for both the rider and passenger.

For decades, Honda products have stood out among the crowd thanks to a distinctively high level of fit and finish, but the 2010 VFR1200F raises the stakes even higher than ever before in the arena of quality control. A high attention to detail and quality is evident everywhere, but take special notice of where the front cowl and body are fused together, creating one smooth, unified, aerodynamic surface. This incredibly tight and precise fit comes courtesy of a new generation of rectangular-shaped fasteners that locate body panels within two dimensions for a fit that is tighter than would otherwise be possible with conventional fasteners. And of course the very latest production technologies used at the new Kumamoto Plant in Japan where the VFR1200F is built contribute to the bike's exceptional fit and finish. It's classic Honda attention to detail, but at its newest and finest.

Note also that new Honda technology is at work in the seat. Here you'll see shaping and forming details like never before, thanks to a new process that literally bonds the seat cover (which has a special, tactile surface) to the seat foam. Net result: exquisite control to shape every part of the seat for improved ergonomics as well as the ability to execute intricate patterns.

More attention to detail has been showered upon key components of the VFR1200F that interact with the rider's fingertips through new premium control elements. Here Honda's engineers have developed next-generation switches and controls for the VFR1200F that return a smoother and more precise feel when actuated; the tactile response feels more direct than ever before.

From the finest details to the grandest application of racetrack technology, the 2010 VFR1200F comes laden with innovation upon innovation, a machine that once again changes the state of the motorcycling art. In each case, however, the target of these benefits remains the same: The rider. The VFR1200F brings to motorcycling enthusiasts a unique blend of elegant sophistication and hard-core sport performance never before offered to the riding public. Such a unique and lofty mission serves as the perfect target for the 2010 V-4 VFR1200F, a machine that traces its deep and rich V-4 heritage to a true revolution in sport bike design, and one that is bound to repeat the sport-altering history of its famed forebears.

— WebWireID106338 —

Automotive

Business Announcements

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Dallas, TX, October 23, 2009—Telecommunications Properties Inc. has been contracted by the Louisville Arena Authority to oversee design, installation, and management of a state-of-the-art in-building wireless system for the new sports arena complex now in development.

The authority board contacted TPI when the technical issue of cellular transmission quality emerged as a problem requiring special expertise. Construction materials interfere with signals creating cut-outs and distortions of sound. For arena patrons, mobile phone interference is an annoyance, but in cases of emergency, 'first-responder' communications is a vital public safety matter.

A sub-set of emerging solutions—called 'distributed antenna systems' (DAS)—is in constant development by telecommunications providers. But the management of such a project requires more than conventional vendor contracting. Texas-based TPI has performed countless DAS installations over the years as value-added outsource, and demonstrated an on-staff capability that won the LAA contract.

'For the duration of the Louisville project, we'll be acting as a virtual extension of the Arena Authority,' said Jimmy Chiles, president of TPI. 'We are honored and excited to accept the in-building wireless responsibility from the folks in Kentucky,' Chiles added.

TPI will help sort out and select sub-contractors, and oversee quality assurances among all related technology providers. TPI has installed and manages infrastructural telecommunications for properties in Dallas, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Houston. The new Dallas Cowboy Stadium is a TPI client.

CONTACT:
Jeff Alexander, Wireless Systems Manager; 214-231-3346
www.tpicom.net

— WebWireID106306 —

Computer Networks

Mobile Communications

Radio

Sports

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Leola Family Health Center plans to go paperless through implementing an electronic medical record system. The Leola based practice recently purchased a system that will allow patient records to be stored in a digital format. Physicians will now be able to conveniently access patient records from tablet computers which they will have with them in the exam rooms.

An electronic record system offers many benefits both to physicians and to patients. Physicians no longer have to expend valuable time and energy finding paper charts, organizing their contents, and re-filing them when they are finished. All records will be available to them at a push of the button, allowing more time for the physician to concentrate on patient care. Electronic records will also offer increased access of medical information to patients. In time, it is the hope of Leola Family Health Center to offer a patient portal, where patients can log into a secure web page and access test results, post messages to their doctor and even schedule an appointment.

Electronic records helps to keep the office environment organized and clutter free. This new approach will decreasing the amount of time patients have to wait to receive test results, have referrals made and get responses to phone inquiries. Electronic records also decreases the amount of waste generated. Documents that use to be printed out on paper will now require no paper. Even faxes can be received electronically.

Leola Family Health Center began the process of researching electronic medical records several years ago. Much research and hard work went into electing the best course of action for implementing this system. Leola Family Health Center is excited about the benefits of electronic records and excited to provide quality and effective patient care now and for years to come.

— WebWireID106173 —

Health Care / Hospitals

Medical / Pharmaceuticals

Sports

Supplementary Medicine / Nutrition

Youth / Children

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

New York - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has today been granted observer status by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. This decision pays tribute to the IOC's efforts to contribute to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals. By using sport as a tool, the IOC and its partners implement various activities across the globe in fields such as humanitarian assistance, peace-building, education, gender equality, environment and the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The IOC now has the possibility to attend all UN General Assembly meetings, where it can take the floor and thus promote sport at a new level. The list of UN observers is exclusive and features states, intergovernmental organisations and independent and non-governmental bodies, for instance, the International Committee of the Red Cross.

'This is a huge recognition of the role sport can play in contributing to a better and more peaceful world', said IOC President Jacques Rogge. 'The Olympic values clearly match the UN's philosophy. Today's decision further strengthens the partnership between the IOC and the UN system' he added. The IOC already works with a wide array of UN specialised agencies and organisations around the world to benefit young people and communities.

Rogge thanked Mario Pescante, IOC Vice-President and Chairman of the IOC International Relations Commission, who, through the Italian government, was instrumental in putting the proposal for an IOC observer seat on the table. On behalf of the IOC President, Mario Pescante was on the spot in New York today, where he was joined by IOC members Anita DeFrantz and HSH Prince Albert II, Sovereign Prince of Monaco, who, as Head of the Monegasque delegation at the UN General Assembly, took the floor and said: 'In inviting the International Olympic Committee to take part in its work, the General Assembly recognises the symbol of a Movement that defends an ideal of human progress and promotes a peaceful society and one which is concerned with preserving human dignity.'

The UN General Assembly today also adopted the Olympic Truce Resolution for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will take place from 12 to 28 February and from 12 to 21 March 2010 respectively. Through this Resolution, the UN invites its member States to observe and promote peace before, during and after the Games in order to protect the interests of athletes and sport in general, and to contribute, through sport, to the search for peaceful and diplomatic solutions to the world's conflicts.

Entitled 'Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal', the Resolution was introduced by Canada on behalf of the IOC. The document also refers to the Youth Olympic Games which will take place for the first time from 14 to 26 August 2010 in Singapore, and which aim to inspire young people around the world to participate in sport and adopt and live by the Olympic values.

IOC President Jacques Rogge said: 'The widespread support for this resolution speaks not only for its symbolic value, but also for its practical potential. Today the IOC and its member organisations undertake various initiatives at the local, national, regional and world levels to promote and strengthen a culture of peace based on the spirit of the Olympic Truce - often in collaboration with UN agencies and other partners'.

A great example for a local project is the grassroots programme recently created by the Vancouver organisers (VANOC), which aims to extend the Olympic values of friendship and respect through an open invitation to 'Make Your Peace'. Initiatives will encourage individuals to create everyday peace at home, schools, work, and in the community, based on the belief that lasting peace starts at the local level.

— WebWireID106105 —

Entertainment

Politics

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Vancouver, BC — With less than four months to go before welcoming an anticipated 60-million unique visitors and 1.6-billion page views, www.vancouver2010.com is getting its Games face on as the international online host for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Starting Sunday, October 18, the fully bilingual website will launch with added features for Canadians and other Olympic fans to follow the path of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay as it treks 45,000 kilometres across Canada, starting October 30. The site will also bolster its current content with new features for sports fans and spectators looking for up-to-the-minute news in 2010 on sport results, transportation, schedule changes, Cultural Olympiad events, tickets and merchandise.

The most noticeable change in the site's 'new look' is a horizontal navigation bar at the top of the page featuring individual icons for all the Olympic and Paralympic sports. Clicking on a sport icon, such as ice hockey, will access sport specific information, such as the competition schedule, photos, videos, and more. In 2010, the website will include live results during competition, the latest news and biographies on the athletes involved, photos, and video clips, as well as links to 'best of the Web' content and other engaging sites, including www.olympic.org. The Vancouver 2010 website will also deliver spectator information, including ticket and merchandise sales, transportation and weather, and the latest news on the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC).

Up until Games time, the site will focus on the daily stream of stories and images from the torch relay. This brand-new content will contain an interactive map where users can keep track of the flame during its 106-day journey, as well as stories, video and torchbearer profiles from along the route. Cultural Olympiad news and listings will also be an active part of the site.

The Games-time website also recognizes the growth and popularity of social media tools and will integrate Facebook Connect, YouTube, Digg, and Twitter platforms in order to deliver an engaging, interactive and contemporary online experience for web users.

'In many ways, we're using technology to bring the world and Canadians together through sport as the online host of the 2010 Winter Games,' said Ward Chapin, VANOC's chief information officer. 'We've designed this website to be the best one-stop source for anyone anywhere in the world to find the most-up-to-date and accurate information on the torch relay and the Games.

'This launch wouldn't be possible without the support and technology provided by our partners: Bell, Atos, Omega, and Sun. It's anticipated that www.vancouver2010.com will be one of the busiest websites in the world in February 2010 and providing an exceptional experience for our Internet audience is one of our top priorities.'

About VANOC

VANOC is responsible for the planning, organizing, financing and staging of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games in 2010.

* Ford is taking the 2010 Taurus to the home field on Oct. 18, with 1,000 simultaneous game-day parties slated for pro football fans across the country; hosts chosen from more than 6,000 applicants
* Ford is the first automotive company to partner with Houseparty.com, a leading social media marketing company, to create Taurus Game Day House Party™, part of a multifaceted advertising campaign targeting the 2009 pro football season
* More than 18,000 guests are expected to attend parties in 45 states to celebrate friends, football and the new 2010 Taurus
* New 2010 Ford Taurus offers unprecedented levels of technology and innovation for the segment at a starting price of $25,995 – same price as the outgoing model

DEARBORN, Mich. – Approximately 1,000 fans of both pro football and the 2010 Ford Taurus have been chosen to host Taurus game-day house parties across the country on Oct. 18. The hosts were chosen from more than 6,000 online applicants.

'We are thrilled about the level of enthusiasm,' said Connie Fontaine, manager, Ford Brand Content and Alliances. 'Fans across 45 states will not only be crowded around the television watching football this Sunday, but around the all-new Taurus, too.'

The 2010 Ford Taurus, starting at $25,995, the same price as the 2009 model, has been elevated considerably from even its iconic forerunners and can include Ford exclusives such as MyKey™, SYNC®, Multi-Contour Seats with Active Motion™ and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®).

On the home field
Ford Taurus Game Day House Party™ is part of a multifaceted advertising campaign that has targeted the 2009 pro football season, and it debuted with the 2010 Taurus being spotlighted on the Ford Drive One FOX NFL Sunday Pregame Show. The blitz continued throughout September with TV ads and a distinctive online presence.

House parties are one of the newest ways to integrate time-tested, word-of-mouth advertising with the popularity of social media; in fact, Houseparty.com data show that Ford was the first automotive company to hold house party events.

Partnering Taurus with a Houseparty.com event was an essential component to the overall integration of Taurus and football, Fontaine said, particularly because one of the main goals of the campaign was to reach male customers and generate excitement through the online community. Hosts, guests and anyone interested can access party information at www.houseparty.com/fordtaurus to find an overall map of party locations in the U.S. and tap into party topics, photos and ongoing conversations.

The page has been popular, according to the number of page hits tracked by Houseparty.com; since August, more than 230,000 people have visited the Taurus Game Day page.

Integrating the Internet into the campaign just makes sense, Fontaine said. Going online is a part of many people's daily routine, not only for socializing, but for research, as well. Internal statistics show that 83 percent of the people who shop Ford go online before they visit a dealership, and 5 million people a month visit the fordvehicles.com Web site. With access to the Taurus house party Web site (www.houseparty.com/fordtaurus), the party platform is expanded to become a part of people's daily online life.

'It makes the party live longer and be more effective,' Fontaine said. 'Hosts can blog about ideas; they can share thoughts and photos, and when the party is over, they can share memories, too, with Taurus at the heart of it all.'

The viewing party brings the experience home, said Jeff Eggen, car experiential marketing manager for Ford. Party hosts will receive a Taurus-themed party pack with an informational DVD featuring Michael Strahan, a co-host of the FOX NFL Sunday Pregame Show. Hosts and guests may also have the opportunity to test drive a Ford Taurus the day of the party, and one lucky host will win a Taurus in a special sweepstakes that's part of the event.

Parties are being planned in 45 states, with guest lists showing more than 18,000 people planning to attend.

'At all the parties, we get the messaging and the information introduced in a comfortable way, and that's key,' Eggen said. 'There is no place where you are more comfortable than at your best friend's house, watching TV. You're at ease, you're having fun, and it's a great opportunity for us to bring into that environment a great product we know they'll enjoy.'

Gaining momentum
Ford Taurus Game Day House Party marks the fourth time Ford has used the viewing party platform to allow consumers to experience its brand firsthand. Each time, Eggen said, the results have been gratifying.

In 2008, Ford organized more than 1,100 viewing parties across the U.S. to gather during 'Oprah's Big Give,' a special philanthropic-based show on ABC organized by popular talk show host Oprah Winfrey. Viewers were invited to introduce their friends and family members to their new Ford vehicles during at-home test drives, and in addition 10 parties were selected to give a Ford vehicle to a deserving person or organization.

Also in 2008, Ford organized Warriors in Pink house parties in conjunction with the NBC comedy 'Kath & Kim.' Family and friends gathered to watch a special episode of the program, and recent Ford buyers affected by breast cancer were chosen to host parties designed to inspire others to support the cause.

'With those integrations, we were just putting our toe in the water,' Fontaine said. 'The first time we really used the platform to showcase our vehicle was with this year's 'American Idol' finale.'

The Ford Fusion American Idol House Party in 2009 capitalized on both the launch of the Fusion and the excitement of FOX's 'American Idol' program. With 1,000 parties hosted nationwide, Eggen said, statistics showed that more than 6,300 people were able to experience a Ford Fusion, and 66 percent of party goers encouraged friends and family to test drive a Fusion after a party. Also, purchase intent increased 33 percent among party goers, and nearly 11,000 consumers opted to receive future communications from Ford.

'These parties just take good, old-fashioned word-of-mouth advertising, and kick it up a notch,' Eggen said. 'House parties use new media tools to make the experience bigger, better and more effective.'

About Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company, a global automotive industry leader based in Dearborn, Mich., manufactures or distributes automobiles across six continents.
