HONG KONG, 1st February, 2012 – Inside the name, behind the label, beyond the brand – this tagline aptly summarizes newly launched food and beverage lifestyle website EAT / DRINK / ETC (EDE ONLINE). Unlike existing food, beverage (F&B) or hotelier websites, www.eat-drink-etc.com is an interactive one-stop platform for F&B related information and resources. It is unique in that the same people contributing to the site are also its audience. The website is aimed at professionals – from chefs, makers, creators and executive level decision makers within the industry to hospitality students – as well as passionate consumers.

The designer interface of EDE ONLINE appeals to a modern readership that is passionate about the F&B lifestyle and culture. Topics range from product and brand showcases to features, trends, travel, personality profiles, art, media, education and events.

As founder Cyrille Stegmann describes, 'Like many, my passion for food, beverage and cigars goes beyond personal taste. Branding methods engage me as much as a brand itself. How a brand is created. A label designed. A product tried, tested, enhanced. As a consumer, I find the more one knows, the better the experience is. This is the premise for EDE ONLINE – it is a passion for knowledge beyond taste.'

Yael Alaton, Strategy Director for Pearlfisher says, 'EDE ONLINE is a unique site in that it manages to cover a broad variety of categories but also has the ability to target a niche and influential audience. This is a website that prides itself on the passion and interactive nature of its readership. It is organized in a modern and engaging way which makes it exciting for a design-savvy audience. We greatly look forward to seeing how it develops."

Roberta Muir, who is manager of the prestigious Sydney Seafood School – Australia's leading cooking school – and author of several books including the international 500 Cheeses also applauded the launch of EDE ONLINE, saying, 'It is a one of a kind in terms of its design and content. I'm personally excited about the scope of the site – I have no doubt it will become the online Mecca for foodies the world-over.'

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Glenmorangie Whisky commented that, 'The site looks brilliant; simply bursting with information!' And Al Chisolm, VP of Marketing Communications for Matusalem Rum gave very positive feedback about EDE ONLINE, 'It has a completely fresh look. The editorial covers a variety of areas, but they all intertwine and relate to each other very nicely. All the content is informative and ensures good reader engagement.'

While EDE ONLINE is launching internationally it is also structured to include region-specific sections – all of which will be unveiled over the course of 2012. Regions include Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East.

At the time of launch, EDE ONLINE will have over 70 confirmed participants including the following:

Smeg Kitchen Appliances, Decanter Magazine, Campari Group, Glenmorangie Whisky, Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Patron Tequila, ProWein, De Buyer Utensils, Sydney Seafood School, Calvisius Caviar, Le Creuset Crockery, Bols Bartending Academy, Villeroy & Boch Tableware, Matusalem Rum, Global Knives, Taste Magazine, Culinary Institute of America, Corona Extra Beer, Pearlfisher, Drambuie, Vinexpo.

ABOUT EDE ONLINE

EDE ONLINE (www.eat-drink-etc.com) is a peerless global gateway to high-end food, beverage and cigar information and resources.

Destin, FL, Jan. 27, 2012 – Despite numerous predictions to the contrary, tourism in the Destin, FL area on the Gulf Coast has not only recovered but is booming well above projections in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon explosion. After the spill leaked more than 200 million gallons of oil into the waters of the gulf, cancellations poured in to hotels and resorts surrounding the area. Tourism was practically dead in the gulf region for 2010 and experts predicted it would be years for it to be back to normal. Fortunately, all the projections were wrong.

The tourist season of 2011, while not back to pre-spill numbers, was up dramatically from what the experts had proclaimed and by the looks of the numbers, 2012 will set new records for gulf states. Resorts and hotels along the Florida panhandle are seeing reservations pour in for the upcoming spring. Prime destination spots like that of Destin, FL, are preparing for what appears to be a banner season as the vacation rentals in Destin are being snapped up daily.

The beaches in Destin were largely unaffected by the oil spill to begin with but rumors and speculation about the outcome had vacationers staying away from the gulf. Many videos had been captured and posted in places like YouTube.com, showing clean sand and clear water in the summer of 2010, but fear of oil and tarballs coming to shore had kept tourists away in droves. As these videos and testimony from people who visited Destin spread proof of how unaffected the area's beaches really were, the public was made aware of the truth of the situation.

Resorts such as the Edgewater Beach Condominiums are happy and relieved to see the resurgence of vacation rentals. Destin, FL, has long been a prime spot along the panhandle for vacationers of all types. With miles of pure, white sand beaches and many exciting attractions, the area draws the snowbirds from the north during the winter as well as sports fishermen, beach-goers, couples and families throughout the season.

— WebWireID152062 —

Entertainment

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Lifestyle / Society

Restaurants

Travel Industry

WebWire® | More Feeds

Interior Painting and Drywall Repair Job Turns Into a Christmas Miracle

What's that again? An interior painting job becomes a 'miracle!'

People decide their walls need to be painted for many reasons. Sometimes it's just because they are tired of the color or because they are changing furniture or décor. At other times, it becomes necessary to spruce up the interior with a new paint job because they are expecting guests and you don't want them to see the same colors they saw when they last visited 10 or 15 years ago.

So when Just Paint Painters got a call from one of its past customers about painting, it didn't appear particularly unusual. Getting the call on December 22nd, the staffer assumed it was for an estimate for work to be completed sometime during the New Year (2012). As company president, Victor S. Freeman, would soon discover, however, this was anything but a 'normal' call for a painting quote. The call was from the 'First-Lady' of Saints' Memorial Community Church in a nearby town, and the work needed to be completed by the evening of December 24th. To make the job even more challenging, the walls to be painted were currently sporting plastic-covered wallpaper that had to be removed.

Being so close to Christmas, the number of employees available was limited. So Freeman, Just Paint's company president, made the trip himself to provide the estimate because of the company's loyalty to its previous customers. Even with the enormous challenge of removing the wallpaper and the uncertainty of the condition of the walls behind it, Freeman committed to getting the job done in time for Christmas Eve services.

The congregation's pastor, the Reverend Eddie Durham, said 'Just Paint Painters was called out of desperation because we knew the quality of their work, but we didn't really expect to get the narthex completed in just two days. That would be a miracle!' The company had previously performed custom interior painting work at the Durham residence.

President Freeman himself led the team in removing the wallpaper, repairing the underlying drywall that required extensive patching, and painting. Completing the project before Christmas almost required camping out at the church. But by Noon on Christmas Eve, the ceiling, walls and doors of the narthex looked brand new. When Pastor and First-Lady Durham arrived, they were totally awed by the outcome. They described the interior painting work as a 'Christmas Miracle' thanks to Freeman and Just Paint Services.

To see photos of the narthex's transformation, visit http://justpaintpainters.com/just-paint-painters-christmas-miracle-at-willingboro-church.

To help ease the challenge of moving interior painting jobs from the 'To Do' list to the 'Done' list, Just Paint Painters, a full service painting contractor based in Williamstown, New Jersey, paints most interior rooms (up to 15' x 15') for just $179, paint not included.

EMSL Analytical provides environmental testing services to prevent contagious viruses from causing outbreaks.

Cinnaminson, NJ, January 17th, 2012

This month, medical professionals at a Hopewell, New Jersey nursing home declared quarantine on the third floor of the center after 34 of the 55 residents came down with the norovirus. The virus struck quickly and resulted in four residents having to be transported to a nearby hospital.

Norovirus illness often begins suddenly and can make infected people feel very sick, with stomach cramping, vomiting and diarrhea. Infections are usually not life threatening and most people recover within a few days. More severe causes of the infection are possible, particularly in young children, the elderly and people with other health conditions.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 'Noroviruses (genus Norovirus, family Caliciviridae) are a group of related, single-stranded RNA, non-enveloped viruses that cause acute gastroenteritis in humans. The most common symptoms of acute gastroenteritis are diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Norovirus is the official genus name for the group of viruses previously described as 'Norwalk-like viruses' (NLV). Noroviruses spread from person to person, through contaminated food or water, and by touching contaminated surfaces. Norovirus is recognized as the leading cause of foodborne-disease outbreaks in the United States. Outbreaks can happen to people of all ages and in a variety of settings.'

'The virus is capable of being transmitted by air if dried vomit particles become airborne. To prevent outbreaks, such as what just occurred at the New Jersey nursing home, it's important to have effective infectious disease prevention services in place and to test for these viruses in the indoor environment,' stated Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc., an environmental testing laboratory capable of analyzing norovirus samples utilizing PCR techniques. 'If suspected outbreaks do occur testing will help identify the source so appropriate measures can be quickly put in place to prevent additional illnesses.'

EMSL has sponsored a video about the norovirus that can be seen at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFxoxW_TdKw

The spreading of norovirus has raised alarm during this warm winter. Besides norovirus, there are other pathogens such as MRSA, Salmonella, E.coli O157:H7, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria can stay alive in air and surfaces. They can be detected and remediated by environmental consultants. The infections have been linked to ground beef that has since been recalled from Hannaford Supermarkets. The supplier of the product is still unknown.

The strain of Salmonella responsible for the outbreak is resistant to several antibiotics, which increases the risk of hospitalization and of treatment failing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people infected with Salmonella bacteria begin to show symptoms of diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. In the majority of cases, illness only lasts for 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment. However, in some cases, the diarrhea may be severe enough that the patient is hospitalized. If the infection spreads to the bloodstream from the intestines, the patient may die unless he or she is treated with antibiotics.

'When testing for foodborne pathogens like Salmonella, EMSL Analytical provides clients with scientifically and legally defensible data,' states EMSL's National Food Microbiology Supervisor, Joy Dell'Aringa, M.S., R.M.

Consumers are warned to avoid drinking Pepin Heights Orchard's Honeycrisp Apple Cider products with a use-by-date of February 9, 2012.

Patulin is a mycotoxin and produced by Penicillium, Aspergillus and Byssochylamys molds. It grows on a variety of foods, including fruit, grain, and cheese, but it is a particular threat in apple juice. While the immediate effects of ingesting patulin have not been established, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) believes that long-term exposure is a health concern.

The product was packaged in half-gallon plastic jugs and sold and distributed in Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin. No illnesses were reported, and no other batches of cider are affected.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture said routine lab tests confirmed that the cider in question contained patulin at levels of 58 parts per billion, higher than the 50 parts per billion limit set by the FDA.

'EMSL Analytical's dedicated food division tests food products for patulin, among other mycotoxins,' states Joy DellAringa, M.S., RM (NRM), CFSP, National Food Microbiology Supervisor at EMSL. 'Our experienced team works with clients to determine the appropriate testing methods for their samples, depending on regulatory requirements, sensitivity requirements, and sample matrix.'

Ammaria Johnson, a first-grade girl in Chesterfield County, VA, died on January 5 after suffering an allergic reaction during recess. According to MSNBC, she went into cardiac arrest before the paramedics arrived, and she was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The cause of her reaction is unknown, but her mother said that she had a peanut allergy. Experts claim that her death could have been prevented by an EpiPen, a device that injects epinephrine and can reverse severe symptoms. Unfortunately, the school did not have any on hand.

In recent years, food allergies have become a contentious issue, and increasingly allergy sufferers and their families are filing lawsuits after life-threatening exposures.

'EMSL Analytical, Inc. offers testing services for a wide array of food allergens, including peanuts, soy, milk, egg, crustacean, and gliadin (gluten),' states Joy DellAringa, M.S., RM (NRM), CFSP, National Food Microbiology Supervisor at EMSL. 'Allergen testing can help prevent tragedies like Ammaria's death, costly recalls, and damaging lawsuits.
