New York - Ten years after its Initial Public Offering, UPS (NYSE:UPS) marked the anniversary today as its chief executive officer returned to the Big Apple to ring the opening bell for the New York Stock Exchange.

Chairman and CEO Scott Davis was joined by members of the UPS Board of Directors and senior executives in launching the trading day on Friday. Davis is the 10th chairman and CEO in UPS's 102-year history but only the third to spend time guiding the affairs of a "public" UPS.

UPS, founded as a Seattle messenger service in 1907 by a 19-year-old named Jim Casey, was owned privately by employees, retirees and various foundations until Nov. 10, 1999. On that day, UPS issued 109.4 million Class B shares representing 10 percent of the company's outstanding shares at an IPO price of $50 per share.

At the time, the $5.47 billion raised on that day was the largest domestic IPO ever. Over the ensuing 10 years, public ownership of UPS has grown from 10 percent of the company's stock to 70 percent.

"The IPO marked another milestone in our 102-year history that allowed us to lever our financial strength to expand our business," said Davis, noting UPS now offers a broad range of logistics, supply chain, freight, customs brokerage, financial and retail services.

"I firmly believe that going public facilitated execution of UPS's strategy to become the leading global transportation solutions provider," he added. "UPS is better positioned today than at any time in its history."

About UPS
Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. The company can be found on the Web at UPS.com.

Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 Automates Data and System Protection, Speeds Recovery of Entire Systems

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced the availability of Backup Exec System Recovery 2010, a complete data and system backup and recovery solution for small businesses. Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 automates the backup process of an entire system or individual files and folders without disrupting user productivity, and enables quick restores to the same or dissimilar hardware, virtual machines or remote locations. Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 introduces new support of the latest Microsoft operating systems, including Windows 7, Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2, easing the transition to the new platforms and ensuring continued protection during migration. With the new release, Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery will also support Linux operating systems later this year.

'Today's small businesses need the peace of mind that only comes with a cost-effective, reliable backup and recovery solution that will protect their information and systems to minimize downtime and avoid disaster,' said Pat Hanavan, vice president, Symantec Information Management Group. 'Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 provides small businesses with affordable protection so they can easily recover what they need, when they need it and to whatever physical or virtual environment they want.'

For small businesses, backup and recovery is both a challenge and a concern. According to a recent survey¹ of 1,650 small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) and their customers, there is a large discrepancy between how SMBs perceive their disaster readiness and their actual level of preparedness. According to the survey, SMBs noted they were confident in their level of disaster preparedness (84 percent), but their practices reveal that this confidence is unwarranted.

The average SMB has experienced three outages within the past 12 months, with the leading causes being virus or hacker attacks, power outages or natural disasters. This is alarming as almost half report they do not yet have a plan to deal with such disruptions. While most companies deploy some form of backup, only one in five (23 percent) back up on a daily basis and 40 percent back up monthly or less. The survey also demonstrates small businesses that lose data due to disaster also lose sales and customers.

Backup Exec System Recovery provides small businesses with a single, easy-to-use solution for backup and recovery. Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 now includes Symantec's patent-pending Granular Recovery Option, previously optional. This capability allows small businesses to back up an entire file server, desktop, laptop, virtual server or critical application server, such as Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft SharePoint, and then restore granular items such as individual Exchange emails, SharePoint documents or individual files in minutes. Backups can be saved to a variety of disk storage devices and can be copied to an off-site location or secondary disk device for disaster recovery purposes.

In addition, Backup Exec System Recovery adds new support for the latest virtual environments, including VMware vSphere 4.0, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, and Citrix XenServer 5.x. This new support ensures that the more technical small businesses that integrate virtualization into their IT environments can convert physical systems to virtual machines through Backup Exec System Recovery for disaster recovery or testing purposes.

Organizations can easily manage their backup environment at local and remote locations from a single, centralized console with Backup Exec System Recovery Management Solution, available with Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 at no additional charge. Channel partners can benefit from this feature as it provides them with complete remote control over their customers' backup environments through a VPN connection, allowing them to create, edit and distribute backup jobs, policies, installation packages, upgrade packages and client settings and enables remote recovery of volumes and/or complete systems. In addition, the Backup Exec System Recovery product line includes editions that backup and recover Microsoft Windows Servers, Microsoft Windows Small Business Servers as well as desktops and laptops.

Click to Tweet: @Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 provides backup and recovery for small businesses across Windows and Linux

Supporting Quotes

'Small businesses today have to do more with less and are looking for simple, affordable solutions like Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 to handle their IT backup and recovery needs,' said Gene Bumgardner, Director of Technical Services, OFM Computer Systems, Inc. 'Symantec's innovative approach to backup and recovery gives us the opportunity to help our small business customers protect and manage their information and systems while allowing us to grow our business and improve services revenue.'

'As a small business and an IT consulting company, we rely on Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery to protect and manage our information and systems, as well as our clients' systems,' said Andrew Chic, systems administrator, Prophet Business Group Ltd. 'We are confident that in the event of a disaster or outage, Symantec will recover our information or complete systems within minutes so there is no disruption to our business.'

Availability and Pricing

Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 is available now for a suggested price of $795 USD per server and $69 USD per desktop.

Acrobat Connect Pro Delivers New Capabilities for Increasing Real-Time Participation Through Engaging Web Communications

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced significant updates to its Adobe® Acrobat® Connect™ Pro Web conferencing solution, enabling organizations to provide rich communication and collaboration experiences for their employees, partners and customers. Now, organizations can improve their customer interactions through more collaborative meetings, training sessions, and Web seminars that increase real-time participation and bring people together when and where needed.

'Communication and collaboration are absolutely vital to the success of enterprises and individuals,' said Arun Anantharaman, vice president, Acrobat Connect Pro at Adobe. 'Acrobat Connect Pro is easy to use, technically flexible, highly secure and it fits seamlessly with an organization's IT infrastructure. New administrative tools allow customers to define which applications can be screen-shared; users can collaborate with ease without the risk of an inadvertent breach.

With this release, Adobe will offer a new implementation model. In addition to current hosted and on-premise deployment options, Acrobat Connect Pro will be available as a managed service, offering customers the ability to outsource IT support while realizing the benefits of security and control.

Other key areas of additional functionality include: native support of PDF that offers advanced document controls and improved workflow through increased integration with Adobe Acrobat; functionality that enables users to schedule and manage Acrobat Connect Pro meetings directly from Lotus Notes; easy account migration for installed customers who wish to change deployment configurations; and certification that offers on-premise customers the ability to run Acrobat Connect Pro on VMware infrastructure.

The Company delivers on its sustainability strategy with a 20 percent reduction in company-wide greenhouse gas emissions and landfill avoidance equaling 2.2 billion pounds since 1991; Corporate giving tops $12.6 million

NORWALK, Conn., Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) today released its 2009 Report on Global Citizenship. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the company's activities and progress in the areas of corporate social responsibility: environmental sustainability, governance and ethics, customer privacy and satisfaction, employee diversity and development and corporate giving and volunteerism.

In the report's letter to stakeholders, Xerox Chairman Anne Mulcahy and Chief Executive Officer Ursula Burns said, "We were an early leader in the sustainability movement because we thought it was the right thing to do for the environment. But we discovered something else along the way. Every one of our innovations ended up either saving us money or creating new markets and new revenue. We found, in other words, that we don't have to choose between the environment and profit. We can do both."

Environmental Sustainability Progress to Date
Xerox aligns its environmental sustainability goals around the following four commitment areas where the company can make a significant impact across its entire value chain of technology and services:

    * Climate protection: Xerox invests in technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of our operations and the operations of our customers. Our goal is to become carbon neutral. To date, our company-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are down 20 percent from 2002 to 2008, and the company believes it will deliver a 25 percent reduction in total GHG emissions by 2012 from a 2002 baseline.

Last year, 80 percent of Xerox's eligible new products met or exceeded the international ENERGY STAR standard even as the program's stricter requirements made it tougher to meet. The company's goal is to deliver ENERGY STAR qualified equipment for 90 percent or more of eligible new products launched by 2010. The Xerox Sustainability Calculator, launched in 2008, is aimed at helping customers identify opportunities to reduce lifecycle energy use, solid waste and greenhouse gas emissions of office printing activities.

    * Preserving biodiversity and the world's forests: Xerox works with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to support the development of a sustainable paper cycle. Xerox expects its suppliers to adhere to stringent requirements for sustainable forest management. To date, more than 90 percent of Xerox paper by volume met the company's requirements; the goal is 100 percent by volume. In 2008, Xerox maintained chain of custody certification as planned, expanding the portfolio of FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) certified papers it offers to customers. Xerox also continued its successful 3-year $1 million partnership with The Nature Conservancy that supports conservation work aimed at the development of a sustainable paper cycle.

    * Preserving clean air and water: Xerox strives to eliminate the use of toxic materials throughout the supply chain. For years, the company has applied strict internal standards that govern the use of chemicals in its operations and products and over time has re-engineered or substituted processes to dramatically reduce the use of toxics and heavy metals. Our goal is to achieve a zero toxic footprint.

    * Preventing and managing waste: Xerox's equipment and supplies returns and recycling programs diverted 106 million pounds of waste from landfills bringing total landfill avoidance to 2.2 billion pounds since 1991. The company achieved an internal recycle rate of 92 percent in 2008 and, in support of a "zero waste to landfill" goal for its company-wide operations, it is developing a waste-free goal in 2009. Xerox is on track to reduce the solid waste sent to landfills from its largest warehouses by 25 percent by 2012.

In May of 2009, Xerox launched its breakthrough ColorQube™ multifunction printer, which uses the company's proprietary solid ink technology. Its cartridge-free design generates 90 percent less office supplies waste than comparable laser devices and reduces the effects of manufacturing and transportation on the environment.

Additional highlights from Xerox's Report on Global Citizenship include:

    * The Customer Experience: Xerox offers the industry's broadest portfolio of document technology and services with more than 80 products launched in the last three years. In 2008, Xerox products garnered more than 230 awards worldwide, and Xerox was the first document management company to receive excellence certification from J.D. Power and Associates for quality technical support three years in a row - one of the customer service industry's highest recognitions.

    * Giving back to the communities in which we work and live: The Xerox Foundation invested $12.6 million in 2,825 non-profit organizations and matched approximately 1,700 employee contributions to not for profits. In 2008, Xerox and Xerox employees contributed $3.5 million to United Way organizations and more than 9,500 Xerox employees committed their time to worthwhile causes through the Xerox Community Involvement Program.

About Xerox
Headquartered in Norwalk, Conn., Xerox Corporation's 54,000 people represent the world's leading document management, technology and services enterprise, providing the industry's broadest portfolio of color and black-and-white document processing systems and related supplies, as well as document management consulting and outsourcing services.

— WebWireID106924 —

Art / Graphics / Photography

Computer Hardware

Electronics

Environment

Office Products

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

New private cloud offering, along with enhancements to public cloud solution, expands CIOs' options for supporting business and protecting critical applications and sensitive data

SANTA CLARA, Ca. – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced the latest in a series of aggressive moves to expand the full spectrum of secure cloud computing options available to enterprise CIOs.

The company announced Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution, an innovative solution for organizations to realize the operational and economic benefits of cloud computing in their internal data centers. Unisys also announced significant enhancements – including a disaster recovery service – to Unisys Secure Cloud Solution, the company's managed public cloud offering. Unisys is showcasing new and forthcoming solutions at the SYS-CON Cloud Computing Conference & Expo here.

'Unisys is committed to giving clients highly flexible computing services that enable them to move more of their business workload to the cloud,' said Rich Marcello, president, Unisys Technology, Consulting and Integration Solutions. 'We have found that some organizations prefer a private cloud solution for mission-critical applications that use sensitive data so they can retain greater control over their own and their customers' information. Unisys meets that need with the Secure Private Cloud Solution.'

Recent Unisys research has consistently shown that security concerns are the leading cause of enterprise and individual users' hesitancy in adopting cloud computing. The most recent findings of the Unisys Security Index, a bi-annual global study of consumer opinion on security-related issues, showed that a significant percentage of respondents worldwide were uncomfortable about having their personal data controlled by a third party without assurance that the data could be kept secure.

'Unisys cloud computing strategy is based on providing industrial-strength security and data protection,' said Marcello. 'Like our public cloud offering, Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution goes a long way toward allaying the security concerns of enterprises and their customers. Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution presents CIOs with a way to realize the full operational and economic advantages of public cloud computing on their own terms, in their own data centers, with extra measures of security for their organizations' and their customers' sensitive information.'

Automation and Consulting Services Make Secure Private Cloud Solution Easy to Deploy, Operate and Use

Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution, scheduled for availability in December 2009, leverages the technology and expertise behind Unisys Secure Cloud Solution. Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution enables clients to reduce IT costs through server and storage virtualization; remove troublesome IT bottlenecks through automated operations and immediate, as-needed self-service provisioning of resources; and align the supply of IT resources to fluctuating business demand.

For ease of deployment, this pre-loaded, ready-to-go solution allows a full range of virtualization, including scale-up and scale-out, and supports physical as well as virtual machines. Clients can typically run existing Microsoft Windows applications without alteration, reducing migration costs and realizing the business benefits of cloud deployment more quickly.

Extreme automation makes Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution easy to operate and manage. The solution enables automated virtual provisioning and repurposing of IT resources on the fly and provides automated resource tracking to facilitate allocation of IT usage costs to specific groups.

Clients can either monitor the infrastructure themselves or have Unisys do it through the Unisys Converged Remote Infrastructure Management Solution. Announced in March 2009, that solution correlates events across all managed infrastructure segments to orchestrate pre-emptive action against potential IT faults. Unisys also plans to include enhanced capabilities in this solution, such as live chats to resolve service issues more quickly at a lower operational cost.

Provisioning through a self-service portal makes Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution easy to use. From anywhere on the network, at any time, users can select the configuration and length of time needed to address a specific IT resource requirement and typically move existing applications to a Unisys cloud without modification.

This self-service capability can reduce provisioning time from days to minutes. For example, deploying thetechnology that underpins Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution for its engineering development and testing lab, Unisys cut virtual server provisioning time from 10 days to five minutes while avoiding the cost of hiring extra staff to manage the lab.

Organizations using Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution can optionally choose to implement Unisys Stealth solution for additional data protection. Using patent-pending data protection technology, the Stealth solution cloaks data from detection as it moves through the network. As a result, different departments and applications in a multi-tenant environment can share the same IT infrastructure without fear of compromising the security of their data moving across the corporate network.

To make it easier for users to decide on and deploy Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution, Unisys has augmented its portfolio of Cloud Transformation Services with Current State Assessment, Design and Planning, Installation and Configuration, Implementation and Application Migration Services specifically for private cloud deployment. The Cloud Transformation Services are delivered by a workforce of 3,000 Unisys consultants worldwide.

Disaster Recovery, Additional Services Boost Unisys Public Cloud Capabilities

'To give clients wider choice in cloud services, Unisys continues to enhance the capabilities of the Unisys Secure Cloud Solution,' said Marcello. 'We are enriching a public cloud environment that already offers industrial-strength security so enterprise clients and their customers can have greater confidence that their sensitive business and personal information is protected in the cloud.'

Unisys has added Secure Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) to the Secure Cloud Solution. This new service provides comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery services on a subscription basis, typically lowering clients' cost of entry compared to in-house implementation. The service also makes it easier for clients to comply with laws and standards requiring storage and recovery of sensitive business data and applications.

With the DRaaS service, the Unisys Secure Cloud Solution is configured as a disaster recovery backup facility, with copies of critical applications and data stored in Unisys data centers worldwide. The automated provisioning, replication and failover capabilities of the Secure Cloud Solution permit applications to be recovered within minutes.

Unisys has also added new capabilities to key 'as a service' offerings delivered through the Secure Cloud Solution:

    * At the end of November 2009, Unisys plans to support Microsoft stacks, including IIS Web Server, .NET Application Server and SQL Server, along with custom stacks such as IBM Websphere and Oracle, in Unisys Secure Platform as a Service (PaaS). This service makes it easier for clients to move their applications to the cloud without changes; and
* Unisys Secure Virtual Office as a Service (VOaaS), which provides access to standard office suites through hosted desktop services, will support qualified client-supplied devices, such as PCs used as thin clients. This addition enables IT organizations to give workers access to applications and support through the technologies they want to use so they can stay continually productive no matter where they are.

For further information on Unisys Secure Private Cloud Solution, click on the following link: http://unisys.com/unisys/theme/index.jsp?id=16000032&pid=1036300010000010000
About Unisys

Unisys is a worldwide information technology company.

Company Continues to Invest in Leading Product, Service and Network Capabilities Worldwide

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Verizon Business continued during the third quarter to deploy new building blocks for its integrated global solutions while growing its professional consulting capabilities and expanding its offerings in key international markets.

Highlights of the quarter included a new set of managed mobility offerings, next-generation managed security services, expanded cloud computing capabilities and a series of global network enhancements. These moves expanded the company's reach and further strengthened its leading portfolio of integrated and secure IT and communications solutions for globally extended enterprises.

"Despite continued economic headwinds, Verizon Business moved decisively during the quarter to expand and deepen its global solutions offerings," said Kerry Bailey, Verizon chief marketing officer-business. "With signs pointing toward increased economic stability, we're confident that no provider is better positioned to serve the extended enterprise as technology investment begins to accelerate."

Focus on Key Solutions Areas

Verizon Business provides integrated global solutions and professional consulting services in four key areas: communications, IT, information security and networking.

New communications solutions capabilities introduced during the quarter included:

    * A new suite of Managed Mobility Solutions designed to help companies meet the increasing demand for information delivered over mobile devices such as smartphones and cell phones, while avoiding the complexity of managing these devices. The offering helps enterprises manage multiple mobile devices, usage plans and applications across multiple carriers around the globe.

    * Consulting services to support the deployment and ongoing support of enterprisewide mobility programs. These professional services will better equip organizations to, among other things, control expenses associated with multiple mobile devices and usage plans across several carriers, while maintaining security over the IT environment.

    * Expanding the company's unified communications and collaboration (UC&C) portfolio, adding management of applications including presence, contact center and messaging to its Cisco Unified Communications System Release 7.0 portfolio.

    * Rolling out the company's award-winning Burstable Enterprise Shared Trunks (BEST) feature to Europe, enabling customers there to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their IP networks by allowing capacity to be allocated on demand to support business needs across customers' VoIP locations.

    * Offering speech services in an IP-enabled version to meet the needs of the growing number of businesses that are converting their networks to an Internet protocol infrastructure. The new capability enables customers to run their speech services on the company's Hosted IP Interactive Voice Response (IVR) platform, as an alternative or in addition to its traditional Hosted IVR platform.

    * Providing its small- to medium-sized-business (SMB) customers more online tools by enabling them to take advantage of the big-business capabilities inherent in the Verizon Enterprise Center (VEC) customer portal and enabling all customers to interact more efficiently with the company through an expanded set of automated customer-care capabilities.

New IT solutions capabilities included:

    * Extending availability of Verizon Business' comprehensive on-demand, "cloud-based" Computing as a Service (CaaS) solution to the company's Amsterdam data center. The new capability in Europe reinforces the company's strategy of expanding cloud-computing deployment resources around the globe to meet the stringent security and performance requirements of business customers.

    * Expanding its Remote IP Application Management service to India, enabling customers headquartered there and local subsidiaries of multinational companies to improve the performance of their online applications while controlling operational expenditure.

New security solutions capabilities included:

    * Offering the company's next-generation global managed security services (MSS) platform, complete with new options for service, to better help large and mid-sized businesses protect their vital assets from cyber threats and other online attacks.

    * Introducing, through its independent ICSA Labs division, new vendor certification and enterprise assessment programs designed to help enterprises safeguard against intrusions through network-connected devices such as printers, faxes and point-of-sale systems.

    * Expanding its already broad portfolio of business continuity professional services to address gaps commonly found in existing continuity programs. The new consulting services focus on business applications, regulatory compliance, training and awareness, and testing.

    * Introducing a comprehensive new Application Security Program, which takes a risk-based approach to protecting the critical data contained within applications such as databases and software. The program helps large-business customers better understand and identify the potential security threats to their applications, and take steps to protect them.

    * Unveiling two new capabilities designed to help safeguard the growing exchange of electronic patient data between hospitals, clinics, physicians, insurers and patients. The first capability is a new Verizon Security Management Program-Healthcare (SMP-H) offering that enables health care organizations to proactively assess the strength of security measures and practices. The second is a suite of IT consulting services that help health care providers design and implement safe security practices for sharing information and storing data.

New networking solutions capabilities included:

    * Extending the company's Managed Services portfolio to India, enabling customers headquartered there and local subsidiaries of multinational companies to benefit from the company's extensive experience and expertise in proactive network monitoring and management. Services now available there include Managed Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN), Network Management Reporting - Visual and Wireless LAN services.

    * Offering SMB customers a cost-effective managed router solution that gives them the secure Verizon Internet access they need coupled with 24 x 7 proactive router monitoring and management. The Verizon Managed Router Solution enables SMB customers - many of which do not have trained IT resources on staff - to take advantage of leading Internet access technology that is backed and supported by Verizon Business networking experts.

Network Leadership and Global Expansion

Verizon Business has invested more than $3 billion since 2006 in its leading global network. Network developments during the quarter included:

    * Deploying 10 new converged packet access switches in five new sites - Buenos Aires, Argentina; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Makati, Philippines; Calgary, Canada; and Halifax, Nova Scotia. Five additional sites received diverse nodes, which brings the total number of CPA switches to 128 across 111 sites in 30 countries.

    * Completing preparation for installation of the Europe India Gateway (EIG) submarine cable system equipment at Verizon Business' terminal station in Marseille, France. This station will support the company's primary access to the EIG cable system in that region. The EIG is scheduled to be in service in 2010.

    * Installing 28 Private IP edge routers for a total of 733 edge routers in 209 sites across 59 countries. New cities include San Diego; Cologne, France; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Karachi, Pakistan.

    * The company expanded its International Mesh Network by additional nodes in Basingstoke and Reading, England. The new equipment connects the Verizon Business network to two Atlantic submarine cables and will provide connectivity to the new Europe India Gateway when completed in 2010. The team also added seven new U.S. domestic network mesh sites.

Verizon Business Industry Recognition

Industry experts continued to recognize the depth and breadth of Verizon Business' global capabilities during the quarter. This recognition included:

    * Analyst firm Gartner Inc. positioned Verizon Business in the Leaders Quadrant of its report, "Magic Quadrant for U.S. Telecommunications Service Providers,"¹ which addressed both wireline and wireless voice and data services.

    * J.D. Power and Associates, which earlier this year gave Verizon Business a leading ranking for customer satisfaction among large-enterprise data service customers, ranked Verizon Business highest in overall customer satisfaction among large-enterprise voice services providers.

    * The Metro Ethernet Forum awarded Verizon Business its 2009 European Carrier Ethernet Service Provider of the Year Award for Service Innovation. Verizon Business won on the strength of the company's industry-leading Ethernet portfolio, its robust European geographic coverage and innovative service offers.

    * PHONE+ magazine named Verizon's sales partner program a Top 50 Channel Program.

    * Speech Technology magazine honored Verizon Business with a Star Performers Award for its Open Hosted Speech Services (OHSS), citing Verizon Business' excellence in innovation and execution.

    * Cisco recognized Verizon Business' continued success as a channel partner with a 2008 U.S. Managed UC&C Partner of the Year Award, along with four other top honors for services sold in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, Cisco named Verizon Business as the 2008 Service Provider Partner of the Year for the Benelux region (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg); gave the company's French operations Cisco's Customer Satisfaction Excellence award; and recognized Verizon Business as the first U.S.-based communications solutions provider to attain status as a Data Center Unified Computing Authorized Technology Provider.

New Business Momentum Continues

Despite a challenging global economic environment, Verizon Business continued to expand relationships with existing large-business and government agency customers while adding new business. The company completed agreements during the quarter with multinational corporations, major regional players and government agencies for a wide range of advanced communications and IT solutions.

Specific customer applications included:

    * Delivering managed WAN services to ING, enabling the global financial institution to focus on its core business. Under the terms of the contract extension, Verizon Business will provide these services to more than 4,000 ING corporate and retail sites in Belgium and the Netherlands as well as more than 200 international locations.

    * Designing, deploying and managing for Manulife Financial an advanced IP-based global network. Under a five-year agreement, Verizon Business will consolidate and standardize Manulife Financial's discrete regional networks in 15 countries and territories in the U.S., Canada and the Asia-Pacific region to provide Manulife Financial's more than 20,000 employees with access to corporate information and resources required to support the financial protection and wealth management requirements of its millions of customers.

    * Providing NYSE Euronext with staging, configuration and testing for key components of its U.S. Data Center infrastructure. NYSE Euronext is a leading global operator of financial markets and provider of innovative trading technologies.

    * Consolidating the communications infrastructure for Sandvik, a global high-tech engineering group with more than 50,000 employees around the world and representation in 130 countries. The company selected Verizon Business as its preferred global communications provider and has seen major business benefits.

Latest addition to FLEXCEL NX System drives a major step forward in ink transfer

Rochester, NY, Committed to ongoing innovation in package printing, Kodak introduces a new addition to the KODAK FLEXCEL NX Digital Flexographic System that enables significantly smoother and more consistent transfer of ink on press. The application of new KODAK DIGICAP NX Screening to the entire image area allows printers to produce KODAK FLEXCEL NX Digital Flexographic Plates that improve print quality throughout the full tonal range and expand the achievable color gamut. Users can now enjoy stronger colors and outstanding visual appearance in solid areas, in addition to the fine highlight detail and print consistency delivered by the award-winning KODAK FLEXCEL NX System.

This new feature, applied in the KODAK TIFF Front End Software, utilizes the unique high resolution capabilities of KODAK SQUARESPOT Imaging Technology and the 1:1 reproduction capabilities of the FLEXCEL NX System to create micro-texturization of the printing surface. The resulting improvements in ink transfer deliver enhanced print quality, as well as production efficiencies, allowing flexo platemakers to more easily mix areas of solids and halftones on the same plate. Additionally, the new feature helps to reduce set-up time on press with plates that come to color more quickly.

'Extensive trials in the flexible packaging market have yielded excellent results. Customers have been delighted with the gravure-like appearance of the solid areas and amazed that they can now enjoy higher ink densities while still maintaining the finest highlight detail,' said Emma Schlotthauer, Global Marketing Manager for Flexo Plates, Kodak. 'One user commented that, in their opinion, they were witnessing the biggest step forward in wide web flexo in the last 10 years.'

Kodak has been recognized numerous times by the flexographic industry for its technical innovation. The FLEXCEL NX System was named this year as the sole recipient of the 2009 Flexographic Technical Association Technical Innovation Award. It also received the 2008 PIA/GATF InterTech Technology Award and the Flexographic Pre-Press Platemakers Association Technology Innovator of the Year Award.

Designed to dramatically enhance the quality and efficiency of flexographic printing for applications such as tags and labels, folding cartons, and flexible packages, the FLEXCEL NX System enables offset class, gravure quality results for packaging printers and their brand owner clients, as well as improved productivity, and unprecedented simplicity and predictability on press.

"The beauty of this new development is that it builds upon the core benefits of the 1:1 image reproduction and flat top dot structure that characterize the KODAK FLEXCEL NX System,' noted Schlotthauer. 'Users of the new feature are reporting plate, ink and substrate savings, with printed results that are impressing clients and helping to drive new business.'

KODAK Products are backed by KODAK Service and Support. KODAK Service and Support is made up of more than 3,000 professionals reaching more than 120 countries.

New PC operating system available worldwide today.

NEW YORK - Today Microsoft Corp. announced the worldwide availability of its new Windows 7 operating system. Windows 7 delivers on a simple premise: make it easier for people to do the things they want on a PC. The new operating system offers a streamlined user interface and significant new features that make everyday tasks easier and allow people to get the most out of computers of all styles and sizes.

'With Windows 7, there's never been a better time to be a PC,' said Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. 'Together with our partners, we're bringing more choice, flexibility and value to the market than ever before. With Windows 7, you're sure to find a PC that fits your life.'

Building Windows 7 has been a collaborative process from the beginning, with Microsoft's engineers and designers working with customers and partners to build an operating system that delivers on the vision of the PC, simplified. In a speech in New York, Ballmer thanked the millions of volunteers who helped improve the product by testing early versions.

'A project with the global customer reach of Windows can only be done as a team,' said Steven Sinofsky, president of the Windows and Windows Live Division at Microsoft, speaking at a launch event in Tokyo. 'We are grateful for the valuable contributions from customers, partners and developers around the world that helped make Windows 7 such a collaborative project.'

On Sale Worldwide Today

The global availability of Windows 7 is joined by an unprecedented array of new PCs and software programs. With more PC options available for customers today at a wide range of price points starting under $300, customers can choose the PC that fits their personality, style and needs, from netbooks, ultrathin notebooks and highly interactive multitouch laptops to all-in-one desktops and high-end, water-cooled gaming machines.

A newly launched section of Windows.com called PC Scout will guide users through selecting and purchasing the right PC. Customers can purchase PCs with Windows 7 or software upgrades online or in-store from technology retailers or at the new Microsoft Store, launching today in its first retail location in Scottsdale, Ariz., and expanded online. Retailers and technology partners are also featuring a series of limited-time offers for customers looking for great deals on Windows 7-based PCs, devices and software. Information on these offers can be found at http://www.windows.com.

To show how Windows 7 simplifies the PC, today Microsoft is launching the next wave of its global 'I'm a PC' campaign. The global enthusiasm of Windows users is also contributing to the way many people around the world will experience Windows 7 for the first time. Tens of thousands of customers have volunteered to host launch parties or meet-ups beginning today, showing off Windows 7 to friends and family members.

Simplifying the PC

Over the past 18 months, feedback from more than a billion opt-in customer sessions and 8 million beta testers validated Microsoft's research on how to simplify everyday tasks. Here are a few of the many ways users will experience a more simplified PC with Windows 7:

Simplifies Everyday Tasks
•	Taskbar. The go-to spot for launching programs and switching windows, the taskbar has been completely redesigned to help users work smarter, cut clutter, and get more done, with features such as thumbnail previews of Web pages, documents — even running video.
•	HomeGroup. Users can easily share their files and printers with other PCs running Windows 7 in their home.
•	Windows 7 Device Stage. This shows the status of all connected devices such as cameras and mobile phones, and makes it easier to synchronize and manage them.
• Photos and videos. Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Movie Maker (available via download) offer customers great, free options to edit photos and videos and easily share them with loved ones.
•	Snap. Users can drag an open window to the screen's border to automatically re-size it. Snap two different windows to the left and right borders for a perfect comparison.
•	Shake. Users can click on a window pane and shake the mouse to minimize all other open windows, then shake the pane again to restore the windows to their original sizes.
•	Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft's fastest, easiest and safest browser ever offers smart new features such as Instant Search, Accelerators and Web Slices to help users get more out of the Web.

Works the Way Users Want
•	Faster on, faster off. Every Windows 7 user will benefit from the focus on underlying performance, faster startup, resuming and shut down time, and enhanced power management.
•	Mobile made easier. All of a user's mobile computing settings are in one place with the Windows Mobility Center.
•	Protecting the PC. Safeguarding the data on a PC is easier with advanced backup capabilities and the free Microsoft Security Essentials download to help protect users against viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

Makes New Things Possible
•	Windows Touch. Users can interact with the PC with a touch-screen monitor, using their fingers and multitouch gestures.
•	PlayTo. Users can stream their digital music, videos and photos to other PCs or devices such as an Xbox 360 console connected to the TV.
•	Internet TV. New content providers and an improved interface make it even easier to watch TV on the PC.
•	Rich gaming and graphics. Windows 7 includes performance enhancements that take power gaming and entertainment to a new level, with 64-bit support and DirectX 11 graphics.
•	Location-aware printing. Documents are sent to the right printer whether it's at home or at the office. And with Offline Files users can work offline and automatically synchronize between a PC and documents on their office network.

Partners Rally Around Windows 7

Along with increased customer involvement, Microsoft's partners had a closer, more involved role in the product vision and planning process with Windows 7. The collaborative approach to engaging partners to inform development efforts has resulted in improved performance for PCs as well as compatibility with a broad range of software and hardware across the Windows ecosystem. More than 50,000 developers from 17,000 companies are enrolled in the Windows Ecosystem Readiness Program to build solutions for Windows 7. Together, these partners are developing hardware, software and services capable of reaching more than a billion PCs around the world.

Founded in 1975, Microsoft (Nasdaq 'MSFT') is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions that help people and businesses realize their full potential.

Note to editors: If you are interested in viewing additional information on Microsoft, please visit the Microsoft Web page at http://www.microsoft.com/presspass on Microsoft's corporate information pages.

VALHALLA, N.Y. – FUJIFILM Graphic Systems U.S.A., Inc., is reporting an increase in sales and sales inquiries in the weeks following the PRINT 09 Show. The company attributes the upturn to substantial investments in R&D, strategic partnerships and acquisitions.

With industry-leading businesses that include Fujifilm Sericol, Fujifilm Dimatix, and Fuji Xerox as partners, Fujifilm Graphic Systems is able to leverage advances in printing and graphic arts technology that provide customers with opportunities to profit in the evolving printing marketplace.

'At PRINT 09, our customers saw the fruits of our investments, including the North American debut of the new Fujifilm Inkjet Digital Press - a culmination of the collaboration among Fujifilm group companies,' said Masahiro Ota, president and chief executive officer of FUJIFILM Graphics U.S.A. 'Together with the Inca Onset S20 and Fujifilm Sericol's leading ink technologies, as centerpieces in Fujifilm's exhibit booth, we have never seen a more positive response from customers and prospective buyers.'

According to Mr. Ota, in selecting Fujifilm, printers are choosing a partner that has the financial health and strength not only to guide their businesses, but to also lead the industry.

A leading securities firm, Mizuho Securities, recently upgraded its recommendation for Fujifilm's stock. The analyst observed that Fujifilm was, "now more likely to achieve record-high profits in fiscal 2011/12." (Forbes/Reuters) This assessment of Fujifilm's strength speaks to the success of the company's diversification into new businesses, and to its ability to reinvigorate traditional businesses by identifying high potential opportunities within their markets.

In Fujifilm's most recent report to shareholders, Graphic Arts was called out as one of the company's five priority business fields for growth, listing the following objectives for its print businesses:

•	Fujifilm's continuous R&D investment in the printing and graphic arts business.
•	Employ Fujifilm and Fuji Xerox's inkjet and xerography technologies and effectively coordinating such management resources as marketing channels and brand values in the digital printing market.
•	Aim for the top global market share for CTP plates.

In the face of the current economic challenges, Fujifilm remains committed to leveraging its heritage in the printing and graphic arts field to introduce new solutions for profitable revenue generation.

'While it may seem counterintuitive or even a bit intimidating, economic climates such as the current one do offer business owners an opportunity to grow,' said Mr. Ota. 'This kind of growth requires both a focus on what's most important: cash flow, cost control, expansion of services and capabilities and effective marketing, as well as having a strong and reliable partner like Fujifilm.

'Our theme at the Print 09 show was 'In Control.' That's what we do, especially in times of economic uncertainty, help our customers remain in control and stay focused on what's most important to their businesses.'

About FUJIFILM Graphic Systems U.S.A., Inc.
As the nation's largest distributor of equipment, consumables and technical services for the graphic communications industry, FUJIFILM Graphic Systems U.S.A., Inc. has assembled best-in-class solutions – including products and technical support – to deliver exactly what our customers need to stay in control and ahead of their competition.

We deliver solutions for workflow, process control, remote monitoring, color standardization, pressroom products, CTP, proofing, digital printing, wide format and more.

Dynamic IT Infrastructure Helps Companies Respond to Significant Change and Increased Security Threats

ARMONK, NY - IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced a comprehensive portfolio of offerings to help midsize businesses reduce cost, improve service and manage risk while building the IT infrastructure needed to thrive in today's business climate.

Succeeding in business on a smarter planet, where the world is more instrumented, intelligent, and interconnected, demands that organizations implement an optimized, flexible and dynamic infrastructure. Currently, the vast majority of the world's IT infrastructure remains slow, inefficient and incapable of handling increased workloads. According to IBM's recently released Global CIO Study 2009, approximately one in two Midmarket CIOs report that they are unable to effectively handle a 200 percent processing load increase or 50 percent decrease.

The study, representing the insights and vision of more than 2,500 CIOs worldwide, including 158 CIOs in 31 countries employed at midsize organizations, also revealed that changing business models are one of the top challenges midmarket CIOs face today and that virtualization and risk management are among their top three technology priorities.

'Our research shows that more than half of CIOs at midsize organizations are actively engaged in setting strategy and enabling flexibility and change,' said Marc Dupaquier, IBM general manager of the global mid market. 'Implementing a dynamic infrastructure is a key enabler of that flexibility. IBM's newest midmarket offerings for dynamic infrastructure position organizations to do more with less, manage and mitigate risk, and take advantage of flexible delivery choices like cloud computing.'

All of the new offerings listed below are part of IBM's Midmarket portfolio. That means IBM has certified that the offering is easy for midsize companies to install and maintain, has trained IBM sellers and Business Partners and has priced the offering so that companies with between 100 and 1,000 employees will see a rapid return on their investment.

"IBM continues to enrich its portfolio of midmarket offering to help us address the unique needs of today's midmarket customer," said Lief Morin, president of IBM Business Partner Key Information Systems, "Partnering with IBM is all about creating value for our clients whether they define their requirements as short-term productivity gains or long-term transformation projects."

These new offerings include IBM Rational AppScan OnDemand, Tivoli Foundations Application Manager, Tivoli Foundations Service Manager, IBM Software Services-Enhanced Technical Support Gateway, and IBM System Storage DS3950 Express.

Cost-effective protection for critical Web-based business assets
According to the X-Force 2009 Mid-Year Trend and Risk Report, more than half of all vulnerabilities disclosed so far in 2009 have been Web-application based. IBM's Rational AppScan OnDemand helps customers reduce the risks and costs of conducting business online and is available with flexible pricing options for midsized businesses. AppScan OnDemand is a software as a service (SaaS) solution that identifies and prioritizes Web application security and compliance risks. By delivering AppScan OnDemand through a SaaS model, midmarket organizations can improve the security and compliance of Web applications, including those hosted in a cloud environment. AppScan OnDemand requires no training or in house security expertise, set-up, or software maintenance expense. It provides the flexibility to have Web sites scanned remotely on a regular basis by IBM's security and compliance product experts, while maintaining full use of AppScan hosted in a secure environment, for a specified number of users. AppScan OnDemand also allows for quicker detection of security vulnerabilities, as well as increased support for audits mandated by industry regulations, such as the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

'Despite these challenging economic times, spending in the security industry continues to increase. This is especially true for midsize organizations, which are being exposed to an alarming number of security and compliance risks every day,' said Scott Holden, account executive, cognence, an IBM business partner. 'With IBM Rational AppScan OnDemand, our customers will now have access to a wide variety of security experts and protection that they never would have been able to implement in house.'

New service management offerings designed and priced for the midmarket
Another key part of IBM's new midmarket offerings for dynamic infrastructure are IBM Tivoli Foundations Application Manager and IBM Tivoli Foundations Service Manager.

Tivoli Foundations Application Manager quickly and comprehensively monitors, alerts and reports on the performance and availability of an organization's IT infrastructure. This appliance improves application availability, which provides improved ROI. IBM Tivoli Foundations Service Manager saves money by reducing service desk support and application upgrade costs. This appliance-based solution improves efficiency by streamlining service requests, incident and problem management, and delivering an automated help-desk solution.

Today's portfolio of midmarket offerings for dynamic infrastructure also includes the following IBM services, storage and server solutions:

    * To ensure that midsize organizations can minimize costly downtime, IBM is launching the IBM Software Support Services – Enhanced Technical Support – Gateway service. ETS Gateway is an affordable proactive service that helps companies maximize IT infrastructure availability on IBM Power System, System i®, System p® and related operating systems through access to information regarding maintenance, security, and performance. Designed for midsize companies that have limited budget for IT maintenance and limited in-house technical resources, the new service delivers immediate ROI through reduced downtime and avoidance of critical problems. Available immediately in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America, IBM Software Support Services – Enhanced Technical Support – Gateway will not be available in Japan until January 2010 and in the US and Canada until March 2010.
* The new IBM System Storage DS3950 Express is a next-generation mid-tier disk system with industry-leading 8 Gbps FC interface designed for data-intensive applications that demand increased connectivity. Ideal for organizations that want to reduce their storage total cost of acquisition or improve performance in mixed workload environments, the DS3950 Express will be available globally beginning December 4 except in the US, Canada, and China.
* The IBM System Storage N3300 Express / N3600 Express also have been enhanced, offering companies greater space and power efficiency at a 50 percent lower total cost of ownership. The System Storage N3300 and N3600 Express solutions support dynamic infrastructure through increased performance and capacity at an affordable price.
* IBM System x3200 M3 Express and IBM System x3250 M3 Express have been enhanced to meet the needs of midsize businesses in an affordable, easy-to-manage package. The x3200 M3 Express is ideal for organizations seeking ways to thrive in increasingly dynamic IT environments without compromising on cost, space or energy consumption considerations. For businesses seeking an economical price point, small form factor, and efficient server to support specialized applications, branch office general-purpose applications, and OEM appliance solutions, the x3250 M3 Express is a single-socket server that offers new levels of performance and flexibility. Both servers become generally available worldwide on October 30.

About IBM
Learn more about new midsized business solutions from IBM.

Join infoBOOM today and learn how to solve the challenging issues confronting your business.

SAN DIEGO -- Xerox Corporation (NYSE: XRX) is helping organizations like Ford Motor Company maximize direct marketing investments and significantly improve response rates - in spite of the recession. The automobile company took advantage of the Xerox 1:1 Lab and increased sales of its extended service plan product (ESP) by more than 35 percent during a market test that included a highly-personalized, full-color direct-mail campaign.

"The campaign was a huge success and now we are rolling it out across Ford's entire portfolio of extended service products," said Mark Bardusch, national sales and marketing manager, Extended Service Business, Ford Motor Company. "Simply put - the campaign will drive millions of dollars into our extended warranty business."

Budco, a direct marketing organization that manages Ford's ESP account, put the automobile maker's campaign through Xerox's 1:1 Lab. The lab analyzes and compares traditional, static marketing campaigns against personalized, one-to-one messaging that uses color and demographic data.

For the market test, Budco produced targeted direct-mail pieces on its Xerox iGen3™ Digital Production Presses and mailed them to 20,000 F-150 truck owners nearing the end of their original warranties. Pieces were customized by gender, income level and geography and included critical details, such as when an existing warranty expires and financing information. Between personalized photos and data there were more than 40,000 possible combinations.

During the market test, customized pieces increased the response rate by nearly 6 percent. More importantly, sales grew 35.7 percent.

"When the Xerox 1:1 Lab executes a personalized direct-marketing test campaign the results cannot be ignored," said Shelley Sweeney, vice president, Direct Mail and Service Bureau Segment, Xerox Corporation. "Ford's customized campaign now allows the company to communicate with its customers in a relevant way, rather than just talking in generalities. When marketers do that, ROI explodes."

Budco, a member of Xerox's Premier Partners Global Network, is displaying examples of successful direct-marketing solutions it has completed for Fortune 500 clients, including Ford, during this week's Direct Marketing Association annual conference.

— WebWireID106071 —

Advertising / Marketing

Art / Graphics / Photography

Automotive

Office Products

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
