Holiday Party CD and a TWC-exclusive Aaron Neville Single Benefit The Salvation Army

The Weather Channel® (TWC), in partnership with singing legend Aaron Neville and The Salvation Army, announces the release of "Holiday Party," a holiday music compilation album. The CD features the single "Please Don't Forget" by Aaron Neville, and a portion of the proceeds from the single and the CD, both available by download from theweatherchannelmusic.com, will be donated to The Salvation Army's Annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.

"We are very excited to expand The Weather Channel music collection with the release of our new holiday album, 'Holiday Party,'" said Robyn Coward, director of licensing and merchandising for The Weather Channel. "The timing of this campaign aligns perfectly with the holiday season and the recent launch of theweatherchannelmusic.com."

"Holiday Party" features a mix of upbeat and festive music. Along with classic holiday songs, the CD offers the all-new single "Please Don't Forget" by Grammy Award-winner Aaron Neville. A song about true joy and peace received from helping others, "Please Don't Forget" follows in the tradition of the "original" Salvation Army Christmas song "Silver Bells," which also is performed by a Salvation Army brass band on the CD. "Silver Bells," inspired by the iconic Salvation Army bell ringer, was originally recorded by Bing Crosby in 1950.

Neville also lends his voice to the holiday classics "White Christmas" and "Go Tell It On The Mountain" from his album "Christmas Prayer." "Holiday Party" features other well known artists such as Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, Amy Grant, The Salvation Army Ensemble, One Approved, Matt Belsante and Blessing. Classic holiday songs include "All I Want For Christmas," "Little Drummer Boy," the Charlie Brown Christmas Theme and others.

"One of the sounds I love about the holiday season is the 'ring ring' of Salvation Army bells at Red Kettles. It brings hope, happiness and awareness to so many around the U.S. It's such an honor to partner with The Salvation Army and The Weather Channel on this holiday collection and new song. 'Please Don't Forget' is just a reminder to reach out a hand to our brothers and sisters who may need a little extra help this holiday season and every season for generations to come," said Aaron Neville.

Aaron Neville will appear for the special premiere performance of "Please Don't Forget" Friday, Nov. 20 on Wake Up with Al, The Weather Channel morning show hosted by Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams. The Weather Channel, Aaron Neville and The Salvation Army also have joined forces to promote the single and the CD. TWC will support the effort from weather.com as well as on air. The single "Please Don't Forget" - available exclusively on the "Holiday Party" CD - and the full CD will both be available for purchase and download from theweatherchannelmusic.com. "Holiday Party" will be distributed to the retail market via EMICMG Distribution, a subsidiary of EMI Music. The CD will be available at major retailers such as Wal-Mart.

"The Salvation Army has a strong musical tradition so this partnership is a natural fit," said Major George Hood, national community relations and development secretary for The Salvation Army. "This is an excellent way for people to help their neighbors in need by supporting the Red Kettle Campaign while enjoying some great music in the process."

The release of "Holiday Party" follows past CD release successes from The Weather Channel. In December 2007, TWC's debut album "The Weather Channel Presents...Smooth Jazz" hit number one on Billboard's current contemporary jazz charts and became a top-20 seller on Amazon.com. In spring 2008, a second "Smooth Jazz II" compilation was on Amazon.com's Top-40 list for several weeks. Both CDs are available at www.weather.com/store, Best Buy and Amazon.com.

About The Weather Channel Companies
The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC) is made up of The Weather Channel Network (TWCN), The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCi), and Weather Services International (WSI). The Weather Channel® is based in Atlanta and is seen in more than 99 million U.S. households. Nearly 30 million Americans receive assistance from The Salvation Army each year through the broadest array of social services that range from providing food for the hungry, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, outreach to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children. 82 cents of every dollar spent is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide. The Neville Brothers, with Aaron as one of the lead vocalists, went on to record a series of memorable albums, including Yellow Moon (for which Aaron wrote the title track). Aaron's solo career hit another high in the Nineties when Linda Rondstadt and George Massenburg produced Warm Your Heart. He won two Grammies for his duets with Linda Ronstadt on "Don't Know Much" and "All My Life," both Top Ten hits. In 1994, he won Best Country and Western Vocal Collaboration with Trisha Yearwood for "I Fall to Pieces." In this same period, he also won Best Male Singer two years running in the Rolling Stone critics' poll. After five decades of consistent hit-making, Aaron Neville has, in the words of one Rolling Stone writer, "reached a highpoint in a career marked by artistic superlatives. Bring It On Home - The Soul Classics is an album for the ages and Neville's most remarkable work to date." Aaron continues to record new music and tour internationally with both The Neville Brothers and with his Quintet featuring Charles Neville.

Rat Pack tribute shows are back, led by "The Rat Pack Now", who strut their stuff with the launch of their new showstopper website, RatPackTributeShowNow.com

In their heyday in the 1950's and '60s, the Rat Pack was a tour de force, eclipsing others simply due to the stature of its members, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.

"The Rat Pack Now", led by veteran Dean Martin tribute artist, Art Poco, brings the Rat Pack legend into the 21st century with the marketing muscle of the Internet, and their showstopping multimedia website at http://www.RatPackTributeShowNow.com. The site features videos, articles, photos, even a download-able electronic press kit.

But it's the heart and soul of the characters that give this show it's mass appeal to audiences of all ages. Those who did not grow up with these music and cultural icons, are won over by the recreation of their infamous Vegas stage show, where they would joke, drink, hang out and best of all, perform their signature songs.

"We are tribute artists. That's what we do. The craft of the tribute artist entails the look, the sound, the movement and the attitude. With a tribute artist, when supreme excellence is attained, you're capturing the soul of your subject," says Poco.

While the group may be missed, fans and newcomers who want to hear their wonderful singing voices once more, listen to the funny lines the Rat Pack once delivered, and experience the sophisticated entertainment, may still do so with the finest of Rat Pack tribute shows, 'The Rat Pack Now.'

For more information, availability and bookings, contact Art Poco at (954) 441-2629; or visit http://www.RatPackTributeShowNow.com

— WebWireID107151 —

Entertainment

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Music

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

NEW YORK: Melodia Women's Choir will premiere a new commissioned work, "Notes Upon the Breeze", on November 14 at 8 pm at St.Peter's Church in the CitiGroup Center, E. 54th St. and Lexington Ave, in New York City.

The new work, the result of a Women Composer's Commissioning Competition held by Melodia Women's Choir, was written by Chris Lastovicka. The music is set to poems by Kay Ryan, the current U.S. Poet Laureate. Artistic Director Cynthia Powell will conduct.

''Notes Upon the Breeze' is fresh and inspired, full of subtlety and wit,' said Powell. The choir is now in its sixth season, according to Jennifer Clarke, executive director and founder, and is performing its third commissioned work by a woman composer.

The concert, filled with radiant music that reflects the meditative sentiments of autumn, also features "Songs of the Lights" by Latvian-born Canadian composer Imant Raminsh. Five songs from 'The Princess' by Gustav Holst will be performed by the choir, along with selections from Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater", which is recognized for its beauty and musical mastery.

The choir will be joined by the string performers of the Transfiguration Quintet and Taisiya Pushkar on the piano.

Melodia Women's Choir is comprised of 35 talented women singers who are selected through an auditioning process. The choir is described as having a "rich and ringing" sound, and has performed several sold-out concerts, including at Merkin Hall.

Chris Lastovicka's work has been performed at the Boston Early Music Festival, Merce Cunningham Studio, in Spoleto, Italy, by the New York City Opera at its VOX showcase of American Composers, and elsewhere.

The mission of Melodia Women's Choir is to create, explore and perform rarely heard women's choral music and to promote opportunities for women composers and musicians.

Jennifer Clarke, founder, is an arts consultant in New York who has worked with Symphony Space, Dancing in the Streets and the American Music Center. Melodia Conductor Cynthia Powell recently conducted choral scenes for Meredith Monk's Songs of Ascension at BAM. Melodia Women's Choir has been featured on WNBC, Women's Voices for Change and Women's eNews, and has been invited twice to perform at celebrations of Women's History Month of NYC.

Funding for Melodia's commissioning program is provided by the Sorel Charitable Organization and the Joyce Dutka Arts Foundation.

For more information see www.melodiawomenschoir.org.
____________________________________________________________________
CONCERT DETAILS

Melodia Women's Choir
'Notes Upon the Breeze'
Saturday, November 14, 2009
8 pm
Saint Peter's Church, Citigroup Center
Lexington Avenue at East 54th Street, New York City
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
Visit www.melodiawomenschoir.org or call 212-252-4134

— WebWireID107136 —

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Media Advisory

Music

Not for profit

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

LEBANON, Tenn.– Over 500 fans lined up today, many before dawn, for a rare chance to meet country music megastar Alan Jackson at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® location in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. People came from just down the road and from as far away as California and Canada to be part of the launch of The Alan Jackson Collection, an exclusive 41+ piece assortment of merchandise inspired by and intended to reflect Alan's family lifestyle. The collection includes Alan's newest CD, Songs of Love and Heartache. Jackson shook hands, chatted, and signed autographs for Cracker Barrel guests for two hours. 'I grew up in the South, so Cracker Barrel has been a part of my family since I was a young man,' says Alan Jackson. 'I was really flattered when they came to me with the idea of working together to create a collection for their country store, and I've been very impressed with the variety and quality of the items that we have put together. I think my fans and their families will appreciate everything in the collection.' The collection, exclusive to Cracker Barrel, is available at all Cracker Barrel locations.

Cracker Barrel planned each detail of today's event in Mt. Juliet carefully to ensure that things went smoothly and that fans and guests had a good time shopping, eating and, of course, meeting Alan Jackson. 'Cracker Barrel has never hosted a store event to this scale before,' said Peter Keiser, Vice President of Marketing. 'So it was important to consider all possibilities to make sure that our guests had a great experience. When we heard in advance from some guests that they were planning to camp out overnight to be first in line, we knew we had a winning idea here. All the hard work paid off.'

The Alan Jackson collection includes 41 high quality items inspired by Jackson's hometown family philosophy and includes menswear, womenswear, gift items and the new CD, Songs of Love and Heartache, available only at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store locations. This CD includes two songs that have not previously been released, 'That's What I'd Be Like Without You,' and 'Nothing Sure Looked Good On You,' as well as 10 other songs, including such hits as 'Here in the Real World,' 'Livin On Love,' and 'Remember When.'

— WebWireID107051 —

Business Announcements

Food / Beverages

Music

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Vote Today; Top Vocalists To Be Included In Year-Long Series Beginning January 2010

Washington, D.C. -- Whitney Houston. Bob Marley. Edith Piaf. Placido Domingo. Busta Rhymes. Joni Mitchell. Whether influencing a genre or providing the soundtrack that defined a generation, each of these artists has established a firm place in music history. NPR is asking audiences to help decide which voices rise to the top for "50 Great Voices" -- a year-long exploration of iconic, distinct and memorable vocalists in recorded history, set to launch on-air and online in January 2010.

Voting is now open at the "50 Great Voices" site (npr.org/greatvoices): a striking interactive lets visitors listen to more than 100 nominated artists, and select their five favorites. Polling begins today and will remain open through November 16.

With "50 Great Voices," NPR is hoping to discover and rediscover awe-inspiring vocalists from around the world and across time. Last month, listeners and visitors to NPR.org were asked to nominate artists; NPR and a panel of experts whittled down the nearly 8,000 submissions to about 100 singers -- a mix of familiar names (we see you, Elvis Presley and Biggie Smalls) and surprising discoveries (like singer Alim Qasimov from Azerbaijan).

Audience votes will influence the final 50 artists to be profiled in the series -- which will spotlight the lives and legacies of these voices through radio pieces on all of NPR's programs, and online at NPR Music. The music discovery web site will offer additional content for all of the featured artists, including archival material, live performances, interviews and news.

— WebWireID107010 —

Advertising / Marketing

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Music

Radio

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Stow, OH .- Audio-Technica today announced the introduction of its ATR1205 microphone for consumers. The high-value ATR1205 comes with four microphone wraps that let users customize the look of their mic. Named 'Tribal,' 'Boom,' 'Jackson,' and 'Cutie,' each of the new wraps fit snugly around the microphone to transform the mic's look with a personal bold visual statement.

Crystal Griffith, Audio-Technica Consumer Marketing Manager, stated: 'Microphones are being used by a whole new generation of karaoke fans, amateur video makers, musicians, gamers and many others. With our new ATR1205, we're offering these users a mic with style, personality and fun that delivers high-quality sound at an affordable price, and captures the look of pop, rock, and country stars who personalize their own microphones.'

The ATR1205's 'Tribal' wrap has a dramatic design evocative of a tribal tattoo. 'Boom' features a pattern of gray and black lines radiating from the center of the mic. The 'Jackson' wrap's splashes of color are evocative of abstract expressionist artwork, and 'Cutie' features a cheerful pattern of hearts intertwined with a floral pattern. The 'Boom,' 'Jackson,' and 'Cutie' wraps are also the same as the ones available in the critically acclaimed videogame Guitar Hero 5®, where players who get 'sponsored' in the game can upgrade to Audio-Technica mics.

The ATR1205 handheld dynamic microphone is engineered for vocal and instrument reproduction. It includes an on/off switch and features a cardioid (heart-shaped) response pattern that rejects background noise, for clear sound quality of the vocalist or instrument being miked. The ATR1205 has a 16.5-foot cable with a 3.5mm mini plug, and comes with a desk stand, mic stand clamp and 1/4-inch plug adapter. The ATR1205 carries a limited lifetime warranty.

The Audio-Technica ATR1205 will be available in October 2009 online or at Audio-Technica authorized retailers at a suggested retail price of $24.95.

— WebWireID106611 —

Business Announcements

Consumer Electronics

Entertainment

Music

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Los Angeles, CA – October 23, 2009 Jean Welles has a dream. She has dedicated her energy to helping Christians around the world draw closer to our God through helping to train up new worship leaders. Just in time for Christmas, She has released a new course which helps guitar players of all levels with their finger picking skills.

Welles, who graduated with a Masters Degree in Guitar Performance from USC, has been teaching guitar for over 30 years. In 2001, she made her technique available to a wider group and released the first Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class™ video.

'Our courses are now in around 1500 stores and 56 countries that I know of,' says Welles. Her series of DVDs and videos are designed to help individuals and families quickly learn how to play the guitar in the comfort of their own homes.

At the heart of all of her work, Welles says, is her commitment to Christ. In addition to teaching and coaching guitar players all over the world, she is a worship leader in the Los Angeles area, and her video series has been used by hundreds of churches to train new worship leaders. By combining popular Worship, excellent technique and step-by-step instruction, Welles has helped tens of thousands of people explore new ways of incorporating music into their worship.

The newest addition to the Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class™ series is a new book and DVD entitled 'Mastering Finger Picking.' This course includes all-new material and is designed to help worship guitar students of all levels improve their finger picking skills.

Welles explains, 'The new course is easy enough for a newer player to learn from, and will also be beneficial for people who have been playing the guitar for many years.'
The course centers around honing one's finger picking technique through exercises, and then progresses into song accompaniments and solos. Included are Christmas songs, classical pieces, Christian hymns and even a flamenco solo.

The book and DVD are available now.

A worship leader and guitar coach in the greater Los Angeles area, Jean Welles has been responsible for helping over 100,000 people learn to play the guitar for worship. In addition to the Jean Welles Worship Guitar Class™ series, Ms. Welles sponsors yearly worship songwriting contests for both children and adults. This year's contest will be held in November.

The Alan Jackson Collection includes complete lifestyle product line as well as exclusive CD

LEBANON, Tenn. – Cracker Barrel Old Country Store® will take an important step forward with its music merchandising program with the introduction of The Alan Jackson Collection, a 40+ piece assortment of lifestyle items created in conjunction with megastar Alan Jackson and available only at Cracker Barrel beginning November 2. The popular restaurant and retail concept has been growing its business as a non-traditional music retailer since 2003, and is setting a new standard by developing this extensive assortment of high quality merchandise to appeal to Cracker Barrel guests, many of whom are already Alan Jackson fans.

Photos of The Alan Jackson Collection

The Alan Jackson Collection features menswear and womenswear, food items, collectibles, an Alan Jackson Signature Rocker and other exclusive items (see full list below) including a CD. SONGS OF LOVE AND HEARTACHE includes two previously unreleased songs, 'That's What I'd Be Like Without You,' and 'Nothing Sure Looked Good On You,' as well as 10 other songs, including such hits as 'Here in the Real World,' 'Livin On Love,' and 'Remember When.'

The Alan Jackson Collection is the first time Cracker Barrel has developed a complete line of merchandise around a star. Jackson was completely involved in the creation of the collection. He personally reviewed and approved all 40+ items and advised Cracker Barrel on what he thought might appeal to his fans. The collection is truly a reflection of his personal lifestyle centered on country heritage and family connections. The country music singer and songwriter is well-known for his songs that tell of universal truths by recounting honest, individual stories that resonate for many people as if they were their own tales. That same attention to detail is apparent in every item in this collection.

'I grew up in the South, so Cracker Barrel has been a part of my family since I was a young man,' says Alan Jackson. 'I was really flattered when they came to me with the idea of working together to create a collection for their country store, and I've been very impressed with the variety and quality of the items that we have put together. Reflecting the earth tones that Alan favors, this solid hardwood rocker is made of Dutch Spruce logs harvested in Maine and hand-assembled in Tennessee. The Danish Walnut finish offers warmth to a room's décor. The Alan Jackson Signature Rocker has oversized posts for durability and is nailed and glued at the joints for extra strength. Alan's authentic signature is engraved in the headrest. Each rocker is numbered as part of a limited edition of 1,700.

The Alan Jackson Collection also includes many functional, stylish items such as mugs, candles and decorative throws to warm the different rooms in a home and for all the people in the family. The collection includes jewelry, shirts, and hats that have been crafted out of materials favored by Alan such as suede, leather, and cotton. All items have been designed to meet Alan's personal taste, and his requirement for high quality standards and good, old-fashioned comfort!

'Cracker Barrel has been focused for several years on providing our guests with great musical offerings that they can get only at our stores and this expansion into a complete, high quality, exclusive line of merchandise associated with Alan Jackson's lifestyle is a great next step,' says Peter Keiser, Cracker Barrel's Vice President of Marketing. 'The Alan Jackson Collection is a good way for Cracker Barrel to connect with our guests, and for our guests to connect with Alan.'

Since 2003, Cracker Barrel has featured a music program that offers exclusive CDs by some of country music's most popular artists. Earlier this year, Cracker Barrel added to the CD offerings when it worked with Dolly Parton to offer a Dolly-pink version of its signature rocking chair and an exclusive photo album that became one of Cracker Barrel's best-selling books ever. With the launch of The Alan Jackson Collection, Cracker Barrel takes music merchandising to a new level, one that will provide a great variety of quality products for guests to consider and enjoy.

Cracker Barrel's impressive exclusive music program features numerous projects, including the September release of an exclusive new version of The Foundation by the Zac Brown Band, which contained three previously unreleased live tracks. That followed August's George Jones release of A Collection Of My Best Recollection, May's release of Montgomery Gentry's For Our Heroes, which debuted at #5 on Billboard magazine's Top Country Album Chart, and March's release of Dolly Parton's Collectors' Edition of Backwoods Barbie, which debuted at #9 on that chart. The series also includes a number of exclusive releases in 2008 - November's release of Bill Gaither's Homecoming Hymns, the August release of Kenny Rogers: 50 Years, the July release of Ricky Skaggs' The High Notes and the April release of Aaron Tippin's He Believed. Over the last few years, Cracker Barrel has also released exclusive CDs featuring, among others, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Josh Turner, Amy Grant, Sara Evans, and Charlie Daniels.

— WebWireID106357 —

Business Announcements

Food / Beverages

Music

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places … and Finding It in the Only Place That Matters

2009-10-21 -- The search for love, harmony, and contentment can take many people on a roller coaster ride that lasts a lifetime. Cheryl Cusella's ride began with a tormented childhood, and nearly ended in suicide before she finally realized that what she'd sought was right in front of her.

In Looking for Love, Cusella shares the incredible and sometimes shocking story of a woman who survived sexual abuse, depression, and gambling. She endured what she refers to as a kind of trial by fire, experiencing love, fame, money, and success, only to discover that none of it could fill the emptiness inside her.

Today the author is a faith-filled evangelist with a passion for giving. But Cusella's life wasn't always this way.

After achieving the wealth she'd craved, Cusella discovered that life had become hollow and meaningless, her identity stripped away by the shallow, superficial trappings of the fame she'd achieved so young. From the bright lights of the stage as a much sought after Stevie Nicks look-a-like and popular feature performer in nightclubs, Cusella finally hit rock bottom—and suffered the pain and hopelessness that follow when everything is taken away.

'I'm a survivor,' says Cusella. 'Though many times I felt totally defeated, even suicidal, someone kept me going. Eventually I discovered who that someone was, turned my life around, and was reborn.'

After losing everything she'd worked for—including her will to live—Cusella's spirit was nearly broken; her life almost came to a tragic end. But, she says, God saved her life.

'I was ready to take my own life,' says Cusella. 'But then I had a vision, and heard a voice. It was the voice of God; I felt His presence all around me as He encouraged me to go on living.'

Today Cusella is a multi-faceted, faith-filled woman—a gifted author, talented musician, and anointed speaker—who has committed her life to helping others discover God's redeeming love.

Looking for Love is the story of a troubled early life, and the desperate search for love in all the wrong places. Tested over and over again by excruciating challenges, it was finally through God's grace that one courageous woman began to live the life she was meant to live.

Cusella has committed her life to helping others discover the love they have always sought, but never had the courage to find. Now a humble servant of God, she is a role model for others who've become lost along the way.

About Cheryl Cusella

Today Cheryl Cusella lives in California, and has completed three years at Moody Bible College where she is studying towards her bachelor's degree in biblical counseling. She is an anointed evangelist, gifted author, passionate speaker, and talented singer. Forever Changed is the title of her soon to be released CD. Cusella believes she has been entrusted with a unique gift to share God's love with audiences throughout the nation.

* Ford launches new "Belt it Out" song-writing competition with Kate Voegele of TV's "One Tree Hill" to encourage teens to create music that promotes safe driving behaviors
* Effort is part of Ford Motor Company Fund's nationwide Ford Driving Skills for Life (FDSFL) teen-safe driving program developed with the Governor Highway Safety Association
* Ford recently became the first automaker to support national legislation to ban hand-held texting while driving

DEARBORN, Mich. – Kate Voegele, recording artist of new hit song "99 Times", is asking teens to write their own special songs that send a message about the importance of safe driving behavior. Vehicle crashes remain the No. 1 killer of teens in America, with teens accounting for three times as many fatal accidents as other drivers.

The nationwide "Belt it Out" promotion begins Oct. 23rd at www.DrivingSkillsforLife.com where soloists or small bands can send songs that incorporate Ford Driving Skills for Life (FDSFL) – the company's nationwide, award-winning teen safe-driving program.

In spring 2010, the public and Voegele will select the teen with the most creative and effective song submission for a top prize of savings bonds up to $5,000.

"Music is such a great outlet and this gives teens a chance to create their own music about something important in their lives," Voegele said. "I am doing this to encourage people my age to stay focused on their future and to understand the importance of their own driving behaviors. They need to learn to avoid driving distractions such as hand-held texting. Maybe music can help them remember that."

Reducing driving distractions
The kickoff for the new promotion comes during National Teen Safe Driving Week Oct. 18-24. It also launches in a time of heightened awareness of the danger of driver distractions such as hand held texting and manual cell phone dialing. Research shows teens are much more willing to take risks while driving, such as manually dialing on a mobile phone in situations that demand greater attention to the road.

"Teens listen to their friends and music more than anything else, which is why we are combining the two so our youngsters can help stop their friends from hand-held texting while driving," said Jim Graham, community relations manager of Ford Motor Company Fund.

The promotion is part of the Ford Motor Company Fund's Ford Driving Skills for Life (FDSFL) program developed in 2003 in partnership with the Governors Highway Safety Association. The FDSFL program has long encouraged high school students to create safe driving promotions targeting peers, primarily through public service announcements and school campaigns. A complimentary online educational website at www.DrivingSkillsForLife.com draws hundreds of thousands of additional teens, parents and educators annually.

FDSFL also conducts a series of nationwide events focused on advanced, hands-on training by some of the nation's top professional instructors.

The program is centered on Ford research that identified the lack of key skills – speed management, space management, vehicle handling and hazard recognition – that lead to 60 percent of vehicle crashes for newly licensed drivers, ages 16 to 19 years old. Auto accidents are the leading cause of death for teens in America, claiming nearly 5,000 lives each year.

"Every week is teen safety week at Ford – our nationwide Ford Driving Skills for Life program teaches kids of the dangers of driving distractions, and new technologies such as MyKey and SYNC can help parents encourage their teens to drive safer," said Graham.

Research on driving solutions
Ford recently became the first automaker to announce support for national legislation banning hand held texting while driving. According to a NHTSA-sponsored 100-car study conducted by Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, driver inattention that involves looking away from the road for more than a few seconds may be a factor in nearly 80 percent of accidents.

"A growing number of drivers are using handheld wireless communications and music-playing devices while driving," said Dr. Louis Tijerina, Ford senior technical specialist. "Research clearly shows that manual operation of those devices that takes the driver's eyes from the road for an extended period of time creates the kind of distraction that causes accidents."

Ford developed the Virtual Test Track Experiment (VIRTTEX), a state-of-the-art simulator that monitors and analyzes a variety of driving behaviors. Since VIRTTEX opened in 2001, Ford has completed a number of driver distraction studies that have contributed to the development of Ford's Driving Skills for Life teen driving education program, the MyKey™ programmable teen-safety feature and SYNC® hands-free communication technology.

For More Information:
Ford's Statement on Driver Distraction Legislation
Reducing Driving Distraction Fact Sheet

About Ford Motor Company Fund Driving Skills for Life
The Ford Motor Company Fund's Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program teaches newly licensed teens the necessary skills for safe driving beyond what they learn in standard driver education programs. Visit the website at www.drivingskillsforlife.com.

About Ford Motor Company
Ford Motor Company, a global automotive industry leader based in Dearborn, Mich., manufactures or distributes automobiles across six continents.

Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket and the Goosebumps series prove that kids love almost anything that goes bump in the night. But when it comes to music, each Halloween we hear the same songs written decades ago: Monster Mash, Purple People Eater, Put a Spell on You. Oakland, CA. singer/songwriter Ira Marlowe is out to change that with his new CD, THE CHILLS: Creepy Songs for Courageous Kids.

Marlowe got his start in kids' music as the leading songwriter for The Learning Company (Reader Rabbit, Dora the Explorer, Where in the World is Carmen Santiago?). He'd released three award-winning CDs on his own Brainy Tunes label before he had a revelation. 'I was playing a charity concert last October and tried out a song I'd just written for Halloween called 'Haunting School'. The kids insisted I play it three times in succession. Then I pulled out a song called 'Ghost Story', which I'd written for my first punk band twenty years earlier. They went nuts!'

Marlowe soon went to work on The Chills, an imaginary ensemble of monsters he describes as 'an undead version of The Village People.' The new CD got a boost when it drew praise from horror icon Lemony Snicket himself: "If you want to frighten yourself and everyone nearby into fits of desperate, anguished laughter, listen to this music. Of course, I do not understand why you would want to do such a thing.' Readers can hear The Chills and decide for themselves at www.brainytunes.com.

— WebWireID106145 —

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Music

Radio

Youth / Children

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

www.baeblemusic.com just released a new concert video featuring Wavves Live at The Market Hotel. Wavves bring their slackadaisical, SoCal power punk to a mosh minded get together at Brooklyn's Market Hotel. Watch the entire concert at http://www.baeblemusic.com/concertvideo/The-Market-Hotel/Wavves.html.

Baeble editor David Pitz said this about the concert: 'Filmed at the Market Hotel, the broken, busted, and booze drenched domicile provided the perfect sort of setting for a dirty, Friday night of slap happy thrills in Bushwick Brooklyn. Here, crusty old sheets flank the makeshift stage, towers of amps threaten to topple all those below, unintentional peaking eye holes dot the walls, and I swear there lay death traps in the worn wood flooring. One heavy set move and a lightning fast plummet to the depths below seems like a distinct possibility. We're thrilled to bring you Wavves' entire set in all its screaming guitar and machine gun drum glory.'

About Baeble Music

Baeble Music is an online destination for free live music.

NEW YORK'S DIRTY DIGITS DEBUT FIRST IN SERIES OF CIMIO PLAYLISTS
CIMIO LETS FANS MIX THEIR MUSIC LIKE A DJ IN THREE SIMPLE STEPS;
CATCH CIMIO AT CMJ WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 21 AT SANTOS PARTY HOUSE

New York, NY, October 20, 2009—Following its launch last month, New York-based Scratch DJ Academy's Cimio—the remarkable and simple software program that enables anyone to create mixes from their own music library in three easy steps—has begun to recruit playlists from noted Scratch DJ Academy DJ's around the country. The first playlist comes from NY-based Dirty Digits, whose playlist is guaranteed to inspire and entertain:

Hold On	by Holy Ghost!
Keep On Searching by Kraak & Smaak
Dare(Junior Sanchez Remix) by Gorillaz
Terrapin by The Quantic Soul Orchestra
Remind Me by Royksopp
Cross The Dancefloor(Chromeo Remix) by Treasure Fingers
Love Generation	by Bob Sinclar
Live It (Klaas Remix) by Fentura
Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix) by The Ting Tings
Think I'm In Love by Beck

'Scratch DJ Academy's DJ's are showing music fans how it's done by creating playlists ideal for mixing with Cimio,' explains Scratch DJ Academy co-founder and CEO Rob Principe. 'Cimio is pretty easy to use. Inspiration for great music mixes comes harder. This is a fun way to help users with the musical selection, and seeing how well these songs go together will develop their skills. Think of it as a DJ-inspired mixtape.' More Scratch DJ Academy DJ's around the country will be contributing playlists in the coming weeks for fans and users.

Cimio's free 10-day trial version and the full application are both available for download at www.ArtistDirect.com and www.CimioSoftware.com.

With Cimio, users import songs from their personal music library into the application. During the import process, Cimio analyzes each track to determine its beats per minute (BPM) and unique song structure. Then, Cimio helps users create an ideal playlist order by using BPM's as well as professional DJ tips from Scratch DJ Academy's curriculum. Finally, users press the mix button and Cimio mixes the tracks in the playlist automatically.

Cimio is designed for music fans that want to mix their music like a DJ but do not have the time or money to invest in professional DJ software. Cimio helps users transform their playlists into seamless DJ mixes for their friends, house parties, workouts, commutes, road trips, and more. The application also features tips from Scratch DJ Academy's leading curriculum—written by real professional DJs. Scratch DJ Academy offers Cimio as an introduction to the DJ art form and encourages users to attend its Academies in New York, Miami, or Los Angeles for courses with real professional DJs.

Since coming on the scene last month, Cimio has launched partnerships with ArtistDirect for discounts and free music, and Here and There and Hype Machine for promotion. Invited guests and media in New York City this week for CMJ can also catch Cimio with Hype Machine on Wednesday October 21 from 3-6pm at the Santos Party House, 96 Lafayette Street in Tribeca/Chinatown.

# # #

ABOUT SCRATCH DJ ACADEMY:
Founded by Principe and the late Jam Master Jay of RUN DMC in 2002, Scratch DJ Academy (www.Scratch.com) has grown to become the world leader in DJ and music production education.
