Espoo, Finland - Nokia today announced one of the most significant milestones in its history with the sale of its 1.5 billionth Series 40 mobile phone. The device was sold to a female consumer in the Brazilian city of São Paulo and represents a historic moment as Nokia continues its strategy of connecting the next billion.
The 1.5 billionth phone was a Nokia Asha 303, a stunning touch screen handset with QWERTY keypad designed for web browsing, social networking and gaming, that features pre-installed entertainment and applications such as Angry Birds Lite.

The device was purchased from a Magazine Luiza store in São Paulo by Mayara Rodrigues, a 21-year-old who loves staying in touch with friends and family through social networks.

The first Series 40 phone was the Nokia 7110 developed in 1999. Since then this family of phones has evolved to such an extent that they are considered 'Smartphone Lite' thanks to the innovations of the new Nokia Asha range.

Series 40 phones now blur the line between feature phones and smartphones. With recent innovations including Nokia Maps for Series 40, Nokia Browser and Web Apps, Nokia Money and Nokia Life Tools, millions of consumers have enjoyed easy and affordable access to the Internet and information for the first time, with locally relevant apps and content.

Mary McDowell, Executive Vice President for Mobile Phones at Nokia, said: "We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone. Having 1.5 billion Series 40 devices sold is a hard-to-reach mark, let alone one attainable in a single line of products. At a time when we are maintaining our commitment to connecting the next billion customers around the world - it is gratifying to consider how Series 40 devices have made mobile technology accessible and help continue to change people's lives for the better."

About Nokia
Nokia is a global leader in mobile communications whose products have become an integral part of the lives of people around the world. Every day, more than 1.3 billion people use their Nokia to capture and share experiences, access information, find their way or simply to speak to one another. Nokia's technological and design innovations have made its brand one of the most recognized in the world.
High-tech traffic technology to help Copenhagen become CO2 neutral

Gouda - Imtech (IM-AE, technical services provider in and outside Europe) secured its first order in Denmark. The high-tech traffic management solutions by Peek (the Imtech Traffic & Infra mobility specialist) for each of the 365 road junctions in Copenhagen represent an important contribution to making the Danish capital completely CO2 neutral by 2025.

René van der Bruggen, Imtech CEO: 'Imtech (Peek) has a large installed base of high-tech traffic solutions such as traffic controllers and traffic lights, which are being used as part of an extensive upgrade involving the deployment of the latest technology and innovative traffic management systems. From this installed base we have succeeded in becoming the technology upgrade partner to the city of Copenhagen. In formal terms, this means the first Imtech order in Denmark, which is a breakthrough. An Imtech office is being opened at the same time to help us build on this start. This will further strengthen our position in the European traffic market.'

New generation of technology for 365 road junctions
The order comprises the upgrade, improvement and maintenance of all 365 road junctions in the city, including a traffic management system based on ITS technology (Intelligent Transport Systems). ITS is a collective international term for the application of information and communications technology in traffic infrastructure and vehicles for making traffic safer, more efficient, more reliable and considerably more environmentally friendly. It involves the use of the latest information technology for simulation, real-time control and communications. The overall package of technological improvements will greatly contribute towards Copenhagen's ability to meet its CSR objectives. An order has been placed for an initial phase of 10 million euro, which will be considerably expanded in due course.

First CO2 neutral city in the world
Copenhagen is seeking to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20% by the year 2015, and to be completely CO2 neutral by 2025. More than 50 sustainability initiatives have been launched against this background, for public transport, the transport industry, and the complete logistic 'setting'. In 2011, 36% of the inhabitants of the Danish capital regularly travelled by bicycle; the target is for this figure to have risen to 50% by 2025. The Imtech technology is designed to give priority to cyclists and public transport, with the help of up-to-date travel information for example, and the creation of 'green waves'. At present, traffic is responsible for 21% of the city's overall CO2 emissions, but it is intended that this be reduced to 10% by 2015, thanks in part to Imtech solutions. To that end, new high-tech traffic controllers will be linked to a real-time remote monitoring system that will enable the flow of buses, bicycles, cars and freight vehicles to proceed in a sustainable and safe manner. The aim is to achieve optimal traffic flow with as few CO2 emissions as possible. This technology is partly the result of previous successful European pilot and research projects - CVIS, SAFESPOT and FREILOT - to which Imtech contributed significantly.

Active in the traffic market throughout Europe
Imtech is a strong player in the traffic market in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Nordic region (Sweden, Norway, Finland), Central and Eastern Europe, and is involved with projects in other European countries. It also exports mobility solutions outside Europe. The company's objective is to further strengthen its position both in and outside the continent. Imtech is strongly placed in the urban and interurban markets, the traffic management and safety market, and in high-tech traffic centres. Besides this, Imtech is active worldwide in the market of parking technology.

— WebWireID151859 —

Environment

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® | More Feeds

Trimble and Manitowoc Cranes Enter into a Development Agreement to Enhance Crane Productivity, Positioning and Detection on the Connected Construction Site

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and MANITOWOC, Wis. - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) and Manitowoc Cranes, a part of The Manitowoc Company, Inc. (NYSE: MTW), announced today that they have signed an agreement to coll...

SUNNYVALE, Calif. and MANITOWOC, Wis. - Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) and Manitowoc Cranes, a part of The Manitowoc Company, Inc. (NYSE: MTW), announced today that they have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development of solutions that can harness precise positioning technology, wireless communications and comprehensive software capabilities to enhance productivity in the construction lifting industry. Trimble and Manitowoc intend to develop solutions that will transform the way in which crane operations and information are managed on a construction site.

By combining the strengths of Trimble and Manitowoc Cranes, the companies intend to develop a solution tailored for the lifting industry that provides real time, centimeter-level positioning data for multiple cranes working on a construction site. The solution would be able to measure crane position in absolute coordinates using rugged, easy to install, non-contact sensors that can be installed on both fixed and mobile cranes. It is planned that the in-cab displays of cranes that are fitted with the developed solution will permit operators to view the site, multiple working crane zones, forbidden zones, target locations and other site information. The companies also expect to develop an "Intelligent Environment" database for their solutions capable of receiving constant updates of data from Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools and other site sensors working in tandem. In addition, an anticipated feature of the solution would enable a user to program an alarm or even halt crane operation upon detection of unplanned work activity on the construction site.

To enhance jobsite awareness and management, a wireless local area network (WLAN) will share the crane position information across the construction site, providing each crane operator, the lift scheduler, and even the back office (if the Internet connectivity option is enabled) instant status against the BIM plan, enabling informed, exception-based decisions to be made in real time. This information will be able to be viewed in 3D and can run either as a fat or thin client accessing software tools and capabilities that are expected to be available as part of the Trimble® Connected Community solution. The Connected Community is a Web-based set of networking tools that allow contractors to build information portals, share information and collaborate between head office management, site office teams, field crews, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers and clients on a project.

• Board Acts on Recommendation of Co-CEOs to Implement Succession Plan
• Mike Lazaridis Named Vice Chair of the Board
• Jim Balsillie Remains a Director
• Barbara Stymiest Named Independent Board Chair
• Prem Watsa Named Independent Director

Waterloo, ON – The Board of Directors of BlackBerry® maker Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced that, acting on the recommendation of its Co-Chief Executive Officers to implement the succession plan they previously submitted to the Board, it has unanimously named Thorsten Heins as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Heins was also appointed to RIM's Board. The Board acted after conducting its own due diligence. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Mike Lazaridis, former Co-Chair and Co-CEO, has become Vice Chair of RIM's Board and Chair of the Board's new Innovation Committee. As Vice Chair, he will work closely with Mr. Heins to offer strategic counsel, provide a smooth transition and continue to promote the BlackBerry brand worldwide.

Mr. Heins said he looks forward to continuing to work with Mr. Lazaridis, globally recognized as a technology pioneer. He said, 'Mike created a whole new way of communicating and I look forward to continuing our close collaboration.'

On the transition to CEO by Mr. Heins, Mr. Lazaridis said, 'There comes a time in the growth of every successful company when the founders recognize the need to pass the baton to new leadership. Jim and I went to the Board and told them that we thought that time was now. With BlackBerry 7 now out, PlayBook 2.0 shipping in February and BlackBerry 10 expected to ship later this year, the company is entering a new phase, and we felt it was time for a new leader to take it through that phase and beyond. Jim, the Board and I all agreed that leader should be Thorsten Heins.'

Jim Balsillie remains a member of the Board. 'I agree this is the right time to pass the baton to new leadership, and I have complete confidence in Thorsten, the management team and the company,' he said. 'I remain a significant shareholder and a Director and, of course, they will have my full support.'

Mr. Lazaridis said that he decided to move from Co-Chair to Vice Chair of the Board in order to return the public's focus to what is most important: 'the great company we have built, its iconic products, global brand and its talented employees.'

Mr. Lazaridis added, 'Thorsten has demonstrated throughout his tenure at RIM that he has the right mix of leadership, relevant industry experience and skills to take the company forward. We have been impressed with his operational skills at both RIM and Siemens. I am so confident in RIM's future that I intend to purchase an additional $50 million of the company's shares, as permitted, in the open market.'

Mr. Heins said he believes that RIM has tremendous potential. He joined RIM from Siemens Communications Group in December 2007 as Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering and became Chief Operating Officer for Product and Sales in August 2011.

'Mike and Jim took a bold step 18 months ago when RIM purchased QNX to shepherd the transformation of the BlackBerry platform for the next decade,' Mr. Heins said. 'We are more confident than ever that was the right path. It is Mike and Jim's continued unwillingness to sacrifice long-term value for short-term gain which has made RIM the great company that it is today. I share that philosophy and am very excited about the company's future.'

Mr. Heins said that RIM has a strong foundation on which to build. 'We have a strong balance sheet with approximately $1.5 billion in cash at the end of the last quarter and negligible debt. We reported revenue of $5.2 billion in our last quarter, up 24% from the prior quarter, and a 35% year-to-year increase in the BlackBerry subscriber base, which is now over 75 million.'

Mr. Heins said, 'BlackBerry 7 has been well received. We are very excited about PlayBook 2.0 and BlackBerry 10. The reception of our products at this year's Consumer Electronics Show was encouraging.'

He continued, 'RIM earned its reputation by focusing relentlessly on the customer and delivering unique mobile communications solutions. We intend to build on this heritage to expand BlackBerry's leadership position.'

Mr. Heins said that RIM has grown quickly. 'As with any company that has grown as fast as we have, there have been inevitable growing pains,' he said. 'We have learned from those challenges and, I believe, we have and will become a stronger company as a result.

'Going forward, we will continue to focus both on short-term and long-term growth, strategic planning, a customer- and market-based product approach, and flawless execution. We are in the process of recruiting a new Chief Marketing Officer to work closely with our product and sales teams to deliver the most compelling products and services.'

Barbara Stymiest, who formerly served as a member of Royal Bank of Canada's Group Executive and has been a member of RIM's Board since 2007, has been named the independent Board Chair. John Richardson, formerly Lead Director, will remain on the Board. Prem Watsa, Chief Executive Officer of Fairfax Financial Holdings, also was named to the Board, expanding it to 11 members.

Speaking on behalf of the Board, Ms. Stymiest said: 'We believe that Thorsten is the right executive to succeed Mike and Jim. He has 27 years of telecommunications experience, including four years at RIM in senior management positions. As a Board, we have been impressed with his outstanding management skills, his leadership and his accomplishments within the company.'

Ms. Stymiest also expressed the Board's respect and admiration for Messrs. Lazaridis and Balsillie, the company they built, and the steps they have taken to position RIM for the future.

'They created RIM, nurtured it, and in the process not only built an iconic brand, but literally pioneered the smartphone industry,' she said. 'It is Canada's largest tech company and one of the largest in the world.'

TeamSnap, a leading web service for managing sports teams and leagues, today announced that mobile device users now generate 36% of its total daily visits, up from virtually nothing two years ago. Mobile users use the [url=http://www.teamsnap.com/ip...

TeamSnap, a leading web service for managing sports teams and leagues, today announced that mobile device users now generate 36% of its total daily visits, up from virtually nothing two years ago. Mobile users use the TeamSnap iPhone app or access the website directly on their smart phone to perform a variety of useful tasks: accessing contact information for coaches, players and parents; pulling up maps and directions to games; and sending out emails and text messages to inform the team about last minute schedule and location changes.

'We at TeamSnap are deeply embedded in the technology world, and well aware of the growing use of mobile devices to access and share information. Even we are blown away, however, by the growth in mobile device traffic to TeamSnap, especially since we only have the iPhone app today. It just shows how valuable mobile functionality is for sports team customers.' said Dave DuPont, CEO of TeamSnap. 'Today more than one third of our user visits are from a mobile device, and that figure is climbing rapidly.'

DuPont expects that mobile visits will reach 50% of TeamSnap's total during the course of this year, and the company has planned accordingly. The company is set to launch an Android app in the next couple of weeks, and has Blackberry and Windows 7 apps in the works. The company plans to keep improving the iPhone app and to release an iPad optimized app as well.

'TeamSnap is about making life easier for everyone involved with sports,' added DuPont. 'Sports aren't played next to the home PC; they happen on the field, in the gym, on the rink or in the water. If that's where our team members and parents are, that is where we need to be. We see an exciting year ahead for TeamSnap mobile development."

About TeamSnap
TeamSnap is an award-winning web service for managing recreational and competitive sports teams and groups. With a simple but powerful online interface, TeamSnap makes it easy to keep track of Rosters, Schedules, Game and Practice Attendance and Availability, Team Payments, Statistics and much more. Comprehensive messaging functions keep everyone in touch, and with a strong focus on usability and simplicity, TeamSnap is software that people actually find fun to use.

With enthusiastic customers in 135 countries, and teams representing over 100 different sports and (non-sport groups), TeamSnap has quickly become one of the fastest-growing team and group management solutions on the planet. And we're just getting started.

— WebWireID151813 —

Mobile Communications

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Sports

Youth / Children

WebWire® | More Feeds

The Consumer Electronics Show has a habit of setting the bar for public technology expectations for the rest of the year and CES 2012 was no exception. A whole host of consumer gadgetry was unveiled including a washing machine you can control via an app, some new 55 Inch OLED TVs that are less than a third of an inch think and a whole host of new tablets.

Managing Director of the The Snugg, Mr Richard Mercer, flew out to Las Vegas to see the event:

'The sheer volume of new tablets on show at CES 2012 made it hard for any to truly stand out from the crowd, despite the fact that many tablets on show at CES 2012 were little more than upgrades of existing models. Tablets sporting smaller screen sizes at lower prices were more evident, no doubt spurred on by the success of the Kindle Fire. It does however show that the growth of the tablet industry won't be slowing down any time soon. Recent research suggests that two thirds of business owners plan to buy a tablet this year so the outlook is good'.

A number of the tablets on show did try to differentiate themselves from the rest; like the Lenovo IdeaTabS2-10, which gives users the option of purchasing an optional keyboard dock for $200 which includes an additional battery, to double battery life; although this follows in the footsteps of the Asus Transformer which utilises a similar, optional keyboard. Fujitsu on the other hand, decided to build its latest tablets to sustain full submersion in water for up to 30 minutes, although this technology will not reach the US until it has proven successful in Japan. Dell has also announced plans to enter the tablet market, having recently announced the release of their smaller form-factor Alienware gaming desktops.

Razer on the other hand demonstrated a gaming tablet prototype, built solely for the PC gaming enthusiast for gaming on the go, although their last laptop offering from CES 2011 has still to reach store shelves.

What has only recently come to light however is that the iPad 3 may have been at the show. iLounge last year reported that they saw a mock-up of the iPad 2 at CES 2011 which was later proved to be true.

'If the mock-up case seen at CES 2012 is anything to go by, it could be that we'll need to design some new covers. We were quite lucky with the iPhone 4S as the dimensions were the same, but a change of just 1mm means that our Snugg iPad 2 cases simply won't be large enough to accommodate them. Other case manufacturers have a little extra room in their cases so they may get off lightly. At The Snugg however, we believe a Snugg fitting case is critical and so we will make all the modifications necessary to keep our customers happy' Says Mr Mercer.

Apple regularly dismisses the idea of appearing at these events, instead opting to stage their own press events to announce new releases and developments. Although it is not the first time that an Apple product has been leaked, or has 'mysteriously' appeared somewhere prior to an ensuing media frenzy.

'Of course, as the report on this case has yet to be clarified by Apple themselves, we may find that the new iPad may be of the same form factor, or it could be radically different. Either way, we'll be sure to prepare for its release so that our current iPad 2 Case users will get all the benefits of a Snugg case should they decide to upgrade' states Mr Mercer

- ENDS -

About TheSnugg:
The Snugg has been offering its customers the opportunity to safeguard their technological assets with stylish, quality cases since their formation in 2010.

Lakeland, Florida, January 22, 2012 - Software patent attorney, Steve Aycock today announced the launch of a new law practice which helps people patent their software. The law firm specializes in helping independent inventors, entrepreneurs and start-up companies patent their new technologies including software inventions. Mr. Aycock was a software engineer for ten years before attending law school so inventors will get someone with experience in both software and patent law.

The name of the law firm is Cygnet IP Law and it should do very well given Steve's background. Patenting software is a growing industry in and of itself because of the huge number of electronic devices which are being introduced to consumers almost every day and the increase in the number of software developers who are scrambling to fill the need to create applications for those devices.

The people who can benefit the most from the Cygnet IP Law firm's services are inventors in the start-up phase of their business who often have a difficult time finding an attorney to help them at a reasonable price. Steve's background as a software engineer enables him to easily understand and patent software inventions such as websites, desktop software and mobile applications.

Patenting iPhone and Droid apps is one of the firm's specialties and one of the fastest growing industries. The Cygnet IP Law firm can help software developers protect their iPhone and Droid apps from software pirates and people who steal software to sell as their own inventions. Also, inventors can lose the rights to their work if they proceed with selling or advertising a product without having a patent application on file.

Steve brings to the table the experience of having worked at a big law firm and a top twenty law school education. Steve is excited about the firm's new website which details the firm's areas of expertise and provides timely and informative articles on patent law.

About
Steve Aycock, founder of Cygnet IP Law, is a registered patent attorney and former software engineer. Steve advises U.S. and international clients in intellectual property matters including patents, trademarks and copyrights.

Lebara, one of Europe's leading telecoms operators for migrant communities, is delighted to announce a new partnership with George Weah, one of the most successful African footballers of all time.

As part of a campaign to celebrate the spirit of African football this winter, Lebara's next TV ad, due to kick-off on Eurosport on Saturday 21st January, will feature the Liberian football star in a series of short films.

The campaign, named "The Call of Africa", was created and produced by CST The Gate and will air in 59 countries across the Eurosport network. The films will show the players striking a rhythmic beat on a collection of drums, from all over the continent of Africa, assembled into a goal. As the world's original communication devices, the drums have been used to demonstrate Lebara as a global communication service. The campaign will run throughout the African football season and will promote Lebara offers to those wishing to stay in touch with family and friends back home or abroad, including £10 free call credit when a £20 top up is made.

The TV campaign will be supported by a number of promotional activities across Lebara's retail network, at outdoor venues and online. In particular, Lebara is offering 'MyLebara' registered customers an exclusive gift of 30 day access to Eurosport Player, where they will be able to watch some of the most exciting African football this season. This offer is available to 50,000 customers and needs to be activated by 30 June 2012. A dedicated Lebara football microsite, www.lebara.co.uk/football, will showcase the brand commercial as well as a film which explains how the ad was made. Fans can also create their own beat through an online app based on the commercial which can then be downloaded as a ringtone. Other promotions available include a 'Scratch & Win' promotion giving customers the chance to win merchandise including footballs, bandanas and whistles.

Yoganathan Ratheesan, CEO of Lebara Group stated: "We are proud to have partnered with George Weah and look forward to building our association with him.
The Snugg Examines Nissan's use of Self-Healing Materials in Latest iPhone Case

Nissan, the well-known car manufacturer has just released their new 'Scratch Shield' case for the iPhone. This case utilises their self-healing paint coating which is featured on their existing Nissan and Infiniti cars throughout the world.

This interesting foray into the world of phone accessories might be something of a marketing stunt according to the Managing Director of The Snugg, Mr Richard Mercer:

'iPhone cases are made to sustain the brunt of any cosmetic and structural damage incurred through normal use and accidents, but a scuffed case is not particularly attractive. If you take the case to work with you, you don't want to appear scruffy in front of your peers. This case looks to remedy this problem. What's interesting though is the branding. It looks as though Nissan is using the case to 'sell' its unique paint features, so that consumers can experience its benefits in a way that really matters. Enabling them to see how this could be good for any car they choose to purchase in future, well any Nissan car anyway'

These materials are not new however. The coating itself was developed in 2005 by Nissan in parallel with the University of Tokyo and Advanced Softmaterials Inc and similar coatings have been developed by other research institutions. Other variations of self-healing materials exist, with some thought to be able to 'heal' bullet holes in planes and punctures in space suits. This case however, is only in Beta, with a limited number of cases being circulated among the press and existing Nissan customers. Nissan has also agreed a deal with NTT Docomo in Japan for use of the coating in their future mobile devices

'What will be interesting is how this technology penetrates the accessory market in Europe. We could find smartphone and tablet manufacturers using the self-healing finish in production, or we may find that they'll leave that to the case makers. What will also be interesting, is to see if more than one version of the technology becomes available, otherwise all willing case manufacturers will need to agree a deal with Nissan which can lead to something of a monopoly on Nissan's part if no contenders make a similar alternative available' states Mr Mercer.

Many accessory makers have produced protective cases for smartphones and tablets; The Snugg is currently a best-seller of the Kindle Fire Case and other iPad 2 Cases across the globe. At present however, many case finishes rely on grease resistant coatings on soft finishes, whilst hard-wearing cases rely on a tough plastic outer shell in conjunction with an impact absorbing, soft inner lining. None of these bolster self-healing of cosmetic damage.

The self-healing coating represents a structure of atoms. Light scratches move these and damage the structure. This new coating, over time, has properties that allow these atoms to flow back together to 'fill the spaces' effectively healing the damage. It is unlikely however that this would work for deeper cuts or gouges where material is actually lost; although it may soften the appearance of the damage around the area of impact.

'If this coating becomes available to 3rd party manufacturers in Europe, I'm sure that we could adapt it to provide our consumers with greater protection and lasting case finishes; although it seems a year or two away at present' adds Mr Mercer.

- ENDS -

About TheSnugg:
The Snugg has been offering its customers the opportunity to safeguard their technological assets with stylish, quality cases since their formation in 2010.

The Undergraduate Business Council at The Schulich School of Business at York University is increasing engagement through an innovative new mobile application powered by campus content in conjunction with CampusCurrent (www.mycampuscurrent.com), a Toronto-based mobile development company for higher education. The mobile application will bring students free finger-tip access to events, maps, academic dates, phone directories and news.

President of the Undergraduate Business Council (UBC), Minhaj Amin is excited about the fit between CampusCurrent and the UBC's content. 'Jumping on the app bandwagon was not something we wanted to do until we found the right fit. Something visually appealing and loaded with information. And this app has it all.' Meerah Azhar, Marketing Director, UBC is looking forward to the social networking aspect of the mobile platform. 'Social media has never been more popular - so a customized campus app is exactly what we were looking for to stay ahead of the game.'

From September to November 2011, 3 scheduled enhancements will be made to the UBC's college mobile platform. September brings real-time smartphone access to important dates, events, profiles directories and maps, and by November this content will be interactive and socially enabled.

'CGA Ontario is proud to sponsor this innovative mobile application,' said James King, vice-president, business development, Certified General Accountants of Ontario. 'We believe in equipping students with the skills, knowledge and resources they need to DO MORE with their education and careers. By supporting this smart phone initiative the Association can help students best manage their busy schedules through the delivery of mobile optimized campus information whenever needed, through a means of communications preferred by students.'

About the Certified General Accountants of Ontario:
CGA Ontario is a self-governing body that grants the exclusive rights to the CGA designation and controls the professional standards, conduct and discipline of its 20,000 certified general accountants (CGAs) and 8,000 students in the CGA program of professional studies in the province of Ontario. www.cga-ontario.org / www.cga-more.org

TeamSnap decided to head north to Canada this week to catch up with Laura, the mother of two daughters playing youth soccer in Oakville, Ontario. Laura provided some insight for how to use mobile technology to manage her soccer team. Let's start by introducing the teams!

The U12 B girls team consists of 17 girls representing the town of Oakville, located in southern Ontario, CA. The girls were promoted this summer season to the Premier Division within the South Region Soccer League. Last month the team won gold in the Frank Sobil Tournament in Oshawa. With a dedicated group of coaches, players and parents, the team has achieved success both on and off the soccer field by placing second in their division last summer and also aiding in the collection of used uniforms and equipment for the Dominican Republic with their sister team, the U13A Girls.

The U13 A girls team is preparing for their second year in the Elite Division where they finished an impressive third place last season. Comprised of 16 girls, last season the team won silver in the League Cup and gold at Barrie Spirit Fest. In early May, they won gold at the Frank Sobil Tournament in the Top Flight division. In addition to their athletic achievements, the team is heavily involved in community service, spearheading the collection of used soccer uniforms and equipment to ship to the Dominican Republic. With help from other teams, they were able to collect and donate several hundred pieces of soccer gear.

'On behalf of TeamSnap, we'd like to congratulate both teams for their outstanding performance both on and off the soccer field!'

How did you first hear about TeamSnap?
– 'I first heard about the TeamSnap soccer team website from a fellow Team Manager, Sherri. Sherri manages the Oakville U12B Boys team. She told me how much easier it was to keep the team organized and I can tell you first hand, it has been a huge help.' –

What is your favorite TeamSnap feature?
- 'Personally, I love the versatility of TeamSnap. For example, the iPhone sport team app is perfect for me because I can use it to make changes and last-minute updates on the go. Also, the ability to send text messages to team members is ideal in the event of field changes, weather issues, and sudden cancellations.' –

What is your advice for team managers that may be new to the role?
– 'I would say having a game plan is crucial. Put together a plan of all the things you need to do and have a corresponding timeline. Use TeamSnap to your advantage by collaborating and coordinating ideas, event details, and schedules. TeamSnap makes communication easy and allows the team to have one central hub for all the necessary information! **Don't forget to take lots of pictures and make sure you HAVE FUN!** ' –

Oakville adopts TeamLink
The Oakville soccer teams have liked TeamSnap so much that Jason Devos, Technical Director, has decided to bring their organization on board using TeamLink, its league and club solution. 'Big thanks to Laura and the teams for their time and welcome to all of our new Oakville soccer teams!'

— WebWireID151653 —

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Sports

Youth / Children

WebWire® | More Feeds

Lake St. Louis, Missouri - January 18, 2012 - Autos On Video, LLC announced today the integration of their real video inventory application into Dealer Fusion's eMotion™ Video Solutions suite of products. Autos On Video, a pioneer in VIN specific (actual) video, has taken the video walk-around to a new level. High quality, real video increases conversion rates by instilling confidence in the dealership and in the featured vehicle.

Up until recently, auto dealerships have had to rely on low tech slideshow "videos" featuring 'Tilt, Pan and Scan' and 'Photo Stitching' technology or shaky, low quality "home movie" video clips. Autos On Video provides dealerships' customers a better more suitable experience with real video and exceptional quality—something that more accurately compares with the video experience TV viewers are accustomed to in social networks. Autos On Video's real video is essential to dealerships' advertising and marketing strategies in the rapidly expanding digital automotive marketplace.

James Plankey from Autos On Video, and Co-Founder Tom Gallaher, state 'eMarketer predicts 169 million people (71% of Internet users) will be watching online video each month by the end of 2012. They also estimate that US online video ad spending will see an aggressive 40% year-over-year increase from 2011.' Autos On Video, enhanced with Dealer Fusion's eMotion™, provides a robust and easy to use video solution for automobile dealerships and lot management providers.'

'Autos On Video understands video and VSEO,' says Rich Robinson, Dealer Fusion's CTO, referring to Video Search Engine Optimization. "With their different levels of video services, we are able to enhance their high end service level with professional actors, professional voice over, and broadcast quality production technology. This combination of actual video and professional, broadcast-quality production will differentiate the featured vehicles from competing vehicles and increases sales for dealerships."

UK hosted cloud services provider Westcoastcloud, is offering Webroot customers the chance to transfer their email archiving to its BusinessMail service for free after it was announced that the US company would no longer offer email archiving from the end of March.

Webroot customers have to move to offshoot Sonian by the end of February or migrate their data to other providers at a cost of £6.39p per Gigabyte by the end of March.

Westcoastcloud says it will pay the migration cost of £6.39 per GB itself for any Webroot customers who want to transfer their email archiving to its own cloud-based BusinessMail service. The offer of free migration is open to any customers signing up for Westcoastcloud's BusinessMail services prior to 1st May 2012.

Westcoastcloud director Bill Strain said: 'Webroot's decision to end email archiving in the UK appears to follow a current trend for companies in the IT marketplace to change their business model. This is why it's so important that when you select a supplier for a service as business critical as data storage, you engage with one that is committed to the UK market and has both the proven expertise and physical hosting infrastructure to support you for many years to come.'

Westcoastcloud offers the whole range of business critical cloud services including email, backup, storage and web security. All its services are hosted through parent company iomart Group plc's wholly owned and managed network of UK data centres.

Westcoastcloud is a subsidiary of iomart Group plc which is ranked as one of the top 25 cloud services providers in the world by Talkin' Cloud 50 and was named Scottish Digital IT Company of the Year 2011. Westcoastcloud director Bill Strain was named IT Leader of the Year 2011 by IT Pro.

— WebWireID151702 —

Electronic / Internet Commerce

Financial Markets

Internet Technology

Mobile Communications

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® | More Feeds

ZURICH, Switzerland - Jan. 17, 2012. Paatle today announced the launch of Paatle Quick Response Codes (Paatle QR Codes) for all property and user profiles on its online real-estate social platform to enable greater interaction in the real estate market. User profiles also have their own unique QR codes.

Paatle QR codes enhance mobile social sharing of user and real estate data by simplifying the way consumers find, share, acquire and refer properties to friends and family. When a property QR code is scanned, the user is taken directly to the property profile page from where detailed information such as price, photos, floor plans, maps and reviews can be easily viewed, all on-the-go from a smartphone.

Paatle QR Code is a powerful marketing tool for real estate agents, developers and property owners worldwide as they can be embedded on "For Rent", "For Sale" and "Open House" signs, property listing sheets, banners, letterheads and business cards.

The Snugg Looks at Coming Tech Trends From CES 2012: Ultrabooks vs Tablets

This week sees the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) come to life in Las Vegas. CES has always been a staging arena for the biggest brands in consumer electronics from all over the world; and as a result, it has a big impact on the tone set for the rest of the year.

With many pre-show conferences having already passed, we can see that the theme for this year's CES will be that of the Ultrabook vs the Tablet.

The Ultrabook is essentially a laptop wherein the major components have been reduced in size and weight to create a device that is 'ultra' portable. These components are designed to retain standard performance whilst operating in conjunction with Intel's low-power CULV processors.

Tablets on the other hand use mobile chips from processor rival ARM, to power their devices; chips which are thought to be in over 90% of all mobile smartphone and tablet devices.

The unveiling of these Ultrabooks is thought to be a move by Intel to prevent ARM from gaining complete mobile processor dominance.

The Snugg's Managing Director, Richard Mercer stated:

'Ultrabooks are a little late. Back in 2010, the most talked about gadgets at CES were Smartbooks, yet you won't find many of those for sale today. Later we had the netbook, which was only reasonably popular. The issue here is performance; tablets are well suited to the on-the-go, mobile and casual usage niche where media consumption is the top priority; for those who needed performance to get work done on-the-go however, laptops were still the better option, where netbooks lacked the performance required. Finally however, the Ultrabook looks set to bring the best of both together, but some may wonder why it has taken so long'

In Apple's absence at CES 2012, rumours are abound that we may see a dual launch this year of the next iPad and a smaller, low-cost model to rival the Kindle Fire.

'This is interesting news, many bloggers and columnists expected Apple TV to be a potential candidate for launch this year, but the release of a budget iPad certainly demonstrates the unpredictability of the tablet computing market at present. Many saw the Apple as untouchable in this segment, yet the introduction of the Kindle Fire appears to have changed all that as Apple risks diluting its 'up-market' brand by competing on Amazon's level. Of course, this is just speculative guesswork based upon rumour at present' says Mr Mercer.

What will really dictate the success of the Ultrabook is Performance vs Price. As long as the purchase of a regular laptop offers greater performance for a lower price, the Ultrabook will take longer to catch on; with that said however, it will be quite some time before tablet devices are capable of the same feats, so Ultrabooks have some time.

'I can imagine Ultrabooks and Tablets evolving side by side for years to come. For people that are serious about mobile working, who use more advanced programs than just typical office applications, the tablet is not going to cater for their needs any time soon. Comparing the devices as direct competition then, as we've seen by some at CES, could be construed as a little bold. The closest we have seen to an overlap so far is the Asus Transformer Prime, with its optional keyboard, but as a serious work machine it pales in comparison to an entry level Ultrabook.

'As far as accessories go for these devices, we will continue to develop our tablet case lines, including our best-selling iPad 2 case and Kindle Fire cases; and when the dimensions for the iPad 3 and other new tablet releases become available, we will then look to develop new cases for these models as tablet demand is only set to grow over the coming year' adds Mr Mercer.

- ENDS -

About TheSnugg:
The Snugg has been offering its customers the opportunity to safeguard their technological assets with stylish, quality cases since their formation in 2010. Based in Bolton, the company operates internationally across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China and the US, becoming a best-seller in five territories.

For further information contact:
Email: help@TheSnugg.com
Website: www.TheSnugg.com

— WebWireID151424 —

Computer Hardware

Consumer Electronics

Lifestyle / Society

Mobile Communications

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® | More Feeds

Anschutz-owned Company Implemented Enterprise-grade Cloud Computing Platform in KC

KANSAS CITY, MO, January 11, 2011 – LightEdge Solutions is pleased to announce that it has expanded its full-breadth of managed IT business services and consulting solutions into the Kansas City market. As the trend of cloud-based IT adoption continues to grow and high bandwidth opportunities become more readily available, LightEdge is confident that it can add valuable Information Technology services to businesses in Kansas City and surrounding suburbs.

Headquartered in Des Moines, IA, LightEdge Solutions was founded in 1996 and subsequently purchased in 2008 by Qwest-founder Phil Anschutz, through his Anschutz Investment Company. The company began as a traditional Internet Service Provider (ISP), but quickly transitioned to a cloud-based service model when the current management team was added in 2004. LightEdge was one of the first providers to offer Hosted Voice-over-IP services and was ranked as a 'visionary' in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Unified Communications-as-a-Service for two successive years. LightEdge was also the nation's first provider of an integrated BroadSoft VoIP infrastructure with Hosted Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) unified communications solution. Most recently LightEdge has launched a Public/Private/Hybrid cloud server solution based on a Cisco UCS computing environment and VMware.

'The timing for this market expansion could not be more perfect,' commented Jim Masterson, chairman and CEO of LightEdge Solutions. 'We're approaching a convergence of a fundamental adoption of cloud services by the business IT community and an incredible ability to access very affordable high-speed bandwidth through Google's Kansas City fiber initiative.'

During the latter half of 2011, LightEdge added a local sales staff, data center colocation space within the Bryant Building and developed an enterprise-grade Cloud Computing platform based on Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and VMware virtualization software in the Kansas City market. This platform can be used in conjunction with a similar environment located in LightEdge's state-of-the-art, free-standing data center facility located just outside of the Des Moines metro area or as part of a hybrid cloud solution with on-premise compute/storage environments.

'What we're bringing to the market is a real game-changer for the way businesses look at delivering IT services,' remarked T.J. Bangs, regional vice president of sales for LightEdge. 'Through a consumption-based model we're offering the businesses of Kansas City the ability to simply 'plug in' to enterprise-grade IT services like Cloud Computing, Voice-over-IP, Managed Security and Unified Communications with minimal capex and maximum flexibility.'

In addition to cloud-based IT services, LightEdge has a full-service consulting group and is certified to sell, implement and manage premise-based Cisco and EMC devices. This unique ability allows LightEdge to fulfill the role of Public, Private and Hybrid cloud, giving a business the ability to leverage compute and storage in the Public cloud to ensure optimal performance during temporary or seasonal usage bursts.

For additional details on LightEdge's managed IT service offerings and consulting services for the Kansas City Market please contact LightEdge Sales at 877-771-3343, e-mail info@lightedge.com or visit www.lightedge.com.

About LightEdge Solutions
LightEdge Solutions is a customer-centric cloud computing and consulting company devoted to solving the IT issues of businesses nationwide. By utilizing our economies of scale, connections with world-class vendors and our own internal passion for engineering, LightEdge allows its customers to 'plug in' to enterprise-grade IT solutions that maximize uptime and performance, yet fit into their budget. For more information, visit www.lightedge.com.

# # # #

— WebWireID151400 —

Computer Hardware

Computer Networks

High Tech Security

Mobile Communications

Telecommunications

WebWire® | More Feeds
