FORT WORTH, TX — On June 5, an American Broadcasting Company (ABC) program called 'The Lookout' featured a segment where program staff called for TV service to a single service center that had been identified as having a poor reputation. Volunteers and staff then dressed up to look like elderly consumers when the TV repair person came to their home. They wanted to see what kind of response an elderly customer, who might be your grandmother or your parent, would receive from a TV service provider if no one else was there with the elderly person to question the service technician about necessary repair work. The service center contacted by the program for the 'sting' was a servicer in New Jersey. That service company has an 'F' rating by the local Better Business Bureau and the program wanted to see if this particular service company would attempt to defraud the consumer.

Technical personnel from Panasonic worked with ABC to prep the TV sets used in the 'sting' by noting the serial numbers of key circuit boards and parts so any part replacements potentially made by the service center could be verified. Panasonic personnel also rigged a set by partially unplugging a speaker wire cable that could be easily plugged in to restore full sound operation. In two other scenarios, they adjusted the color on a TV set with the remote and they also changed a format setting on another TV noting that it was a simple adjustment and would only take a few minutes to restore the color and format settings with no actual repair being necessary.

On three different occasions, this company provided repair estimates and services that were much higher coupled with parts that should not have been needed to repair the television sets. It was revealed after approving the estimates and having the TV's 'repaired' that no parts were actually replaced to repair the televisions in question although the service center had stated they had been replaced and billed for parts in all three cases as part of the repair process. A television journalist then set up a final service appointment whereby she revealed herself in the 'sting' and tried to obtain comment from the technician who immediately left and refused to answer any questions. The journalist finally went to the service center and was also denied comment again from the technician and the identified owner.

Another service company with a similar company name, located in the same geographic area, with an 'A+' Better Business Bureau rating began to receive threatening calls as a result of the program's airing, and respectfully appealed to the producers of the ABC show for help in letting the public know he was not the company they had featured. ABC agreed to air additional information about the two companies to let the public know the good company was still a good company, and they have done so. Unfortunately, this does not help the remaining honest and ethical service providers that may have been affected by the conclusions drawn in the program.

NESDA's Board of Directors and members believe that the tone set by the program was one that left the viewer with the impression that all television service centers were dishonest although the subject of the 'sting' operation was one unscrupulous service center in New Jersey.

For over 60 years, the members of NESDA, the National Electronics Service Dealers Association, have agreed to a comprehensive Code of Ethics that protects consumers from shady business practices. The NESDA Code of Ethics may be viewed on the organization's website here: http://www.tvrepairpros.com/NESDA-Code-of-Ethics.html

The 700-plus service center members of National Electronics Service Dealers Association (NESDA) are ready to help consumers by offering professional television repair service.

Consumers looking for an ethical and professional servicer are encouraged to visit www.TVRepairPros.com and search for a professional servicer by ZIP code. The website lists contact information for each servicer, brands and products they repair, technical certifications held, length of time as a NESDA member and whether the service provider has undergone a background check and a drug screening. You may also select a servicer, supply information about your product, and request a service call via the website. Many members of NESDA also provide professional installation and service for big screen and HDTV television.

NESDA is the premiere association in the consumer electronics service industry. For more than sixty years, NESDA members have represented the best and most professional electronics servicers available. For more information on NESDA and NESDA membership, visit the NESDA website at http://www.nesda.com or call the NESDA office at 800/797-9197 ext. 116.

— WebWireID176086 —

Electronics

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Media Advisory

Television

WebWire® | More Feeds

WASHINGTON -- NASA Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations William Gerstenmaier and other agency officials will debut a new machine for manufacturing NASA's Space Launch System (SLS) and check on development progress with the heavy-lift rocket at the agency's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans Friday, June 21.

NASA is inviting media representatives to attend a 9:15 a.m. CDT ribbon-cutting ceremony for the vertical weld center, where friction-stir weld tooling will be used to assemble the SLS core stage, then join officials on a tour of the SLS assembly area and work in support of NASA's Orion spacecraft.

Michoud is critical to the construction and testing of SLS, which is managed and in development at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

Officials of The Boeing Company of Huntsville, Ala., prime contractor for the SLS core stage and its avionics, will take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The 200 foot-tall core stage will store cryogenic liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen to feed the rocket's RS-25 engines. The vertical weld center will stand about three stories tall and weigh 165 tons.

Thursday, June 20. Media must report to 13800 Old Gentilly Road and enter Gate 11, which is located east of Building 101, by 8:30 a.m. June 21 for access to the facility. Official media credentials with photo identification are required for access.

NASA is developing the SLS rocket and Orion to provide an entirely new capability for human exploration. It will expand human presence beyond low-Earth orbit and enable new missions of exploration in the solar system, including to an asteroid and Mars.

HOUSTON -- After an extensive year-and-a-half search, NASA has a new group of potential astronauts who will help the agency push the boundaries of exploration and travel to new destinations in the solar system, including an asteroid and Mars. Eight candidates have been selected to be NASA's newest astronaut trainees, hoping to be among those who are the first to launch from U.S. soil on commercial American spacecraft since the retirement of the space shuttle.

The 2013 astronaut candidate class comes from the second largest number of applications NASA has received -- more than 6,000. Half of the selectees are women, making this the highest percentage of female astronaut candidates ever selected for a class. The group will receive a wide array of technical training at space centers and remote locations around the globe to prepare for missions to low-Earth orbit, an asteroid and Mars.

"These new space explorers asked to join NASA because they know we're doing big, bold things here -- developing missions to go farther into space than ever before," said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden. "They're excited about the science we're doing on the International Space Station and our plan to launch from U.S. soil to there on spacecraft built by American companies. And they're ready to help lead the first human mission to an asteroid and then on to Mars."

NASA will discuss the selections at 3 p.m. CDT Monday, June 17, via a Google+ Hangout.

The astronaut candidates are:

Josh A. Cassada, Ph.D., 39, is originally from White Bear Lake, Minn. Cassada is a former naval aviator who holds an undergraduate degree from Albion College, and advanced degrees from the University of Rochester, N.Y. Cassada is a physicist by training and currently is serving as co-founder and Chief Technology Officer for Quantum Opus.

Victor J. Glover, 37, Lt. Commander, U.S. Navy, hails from Pomona, Calif., and Prosper, Texas. He is an F/A-18 pilot and graduate of the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, Edwards, Calif. Glover holds degrees from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Air University and the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif. He currently is serving as a Navy Legislative Fellow in the U.S. Congress.

Tyler N. (Nick) Hague, 37, Lt. Colonel, U.S. Air Force, calls Hoxie, Kan., home. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass., and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School, Edwards, Calif. Hague currently is supporting the Department of Defense as Deputy Chief of the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization.

Christina M. Hammock, 34, calls Jacksonville, N.C., home. Hammock holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, N.C. She currently is serving as National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration Station Chief in American Samoa.

Nicole Aunapu Mann, 35, Major, U.S. Marine Corps, originally is from Penngrove, Calif. She is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Stanford University and the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School, Patuxent River, Md. Mann is an F/A 18 pilot, currently serving as an Integrated Product Team Lead at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Patuxent River.

Anne C. McClain, 34, Major, U.S. Army, lists her hometown as Spokane, Wash. She is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.; the University of Bath and the University of Bristol, both in the United Kingdom. McClain is an OH-58 helicopter pilot, and a recent graduate of the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River.

Jessica U. Meir, Ph.D., 35, is from Caribou, Maine. She is a graduate of Brown University, has an advanced degree from the International Space University, and earned her doctorate from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Meir currently is an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

Andrew R. Morgan, M.D., 37, Major, U.S. Army, considers New Castle, Pa., home. Morgan is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and earned a doctorate of medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda, Md. He has experience as an emergency physician and flight surgeon for the Army special operations community, and currently is completing a sports medicine fellowship.

The new astronaut candidates will begin training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston in August.

"This year we have selected eight highly qualified individuals who have demonstrated impressive strengths academically, operationally and physically," said Janet Kavandi, director of Flight Crew Operations at Johnson. "They have diverse backgrounds and skill sets that will contribute greatly to the existing astronaut corps. Based on their incredible experiences to date, I have every confidence that they will apply their combined expertise and talents to achieve great things for NASA and this country in the pursuit of human exploration."

During the Google+ Hangout, which will include recorded video introductions from the astronaut candidates and discuss the selection and training process, NASA's social media followers may submit questions on Twitter and Google+ in advance and during the event using the hashtag #askNASA. Before the hangout begins, NASA will open a thread on its Facebook page where questions may be posted. The Hangout can be viewed live on NASA's Google+ page or on NASA Television. To join the Hangout, visit:

http://go.nasa.gov/126mOLK

Reporters may ask questions on the Hangout using a phone bridge managed at Johnson. To participate via phone bridge, journalists must call the Johnson newsroom at 281-483-5111 by 2:45 p.m.

By design, NASA's calls for astronauts are staggered so the agency can maintain continuity of experience and leadership in the astronaut corps. Since the initial astronaut class of 1959, NASA has selected and trained 330 astronauts. Most recently in 2009, NASA selected nine candidates. The 2013 group is the agency's 21st astronaut class.

NASA is engaging in a parallel path for human spaceflight exploration with U.S. commercial companies providing access to low-Earth Orbit for cargo to the space station. NASA's Commercial Crew Program also is working with commercial space partners to develop capabilities to launch U.S. astronauts from American soil in the next few years.

At the same time, NASA is developing the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System heavy-lift rocket designed to provide an entirely new capability for human exploration, including a mission to study an asteroid and Mars.

Earlier this month, it was reported that parents of students who attend a middle school in the Belle Harbor neighborhood of Queens were voicing their concerns after learning of mold problems in their children's school. Just last month, Massachusetts state health inspectors were reported to have revisited a school in Lawrence, Massachusetts where the faculty had raised concerns over possible mold in their school.

Unfortunately, these are not isolated cases of problems due to mold in our nation's schools. Due to extreme weather events and the slow economy in many parts of the country, numerous school districts have seen their maintenance budgets cut as state and local budgets get squeezed. This has caused the postponement or elimination of preventative maintenance and capital projects that can often turn avoidable or minor water damage and indoor air quality (IAQ) issues into significant and costly problems.

With summer break observed in most schools right now, many school districts take this time of year to make improvements and resolve problems due to mold growth in their facilities. One product that has been used extensively to tackle mold issues in schools is MMR mold stain remover. MMR is ideal for schools because it is a safe, biodegradable and non-flammable commercial grade product that utilizes a powerful cleaning agent that penetrates soiled areas almost instantly, leaving surfaces clean and free from mold stains.

'Poor IAQ can cause illnesses with students and faculty requiring absence from school and can cause acute health symptoms that decrease performance while at school,' stated Chris Heller with FastMoldRemoval.com, the supplier of MMR and other mold abatement products. 'It's important to resolve the underlying issues associated with mold growth in any indoor environment to prevent its return. At FastMoldRemoval.com we offer MMR, microbial disinfectants, and the tools and personal protective equipment that can help to safely eliminate mold problems,' he continued.

An online video that showcases MMR's effectiveness and ease of use can be seen at:
http://youtu.be/Eqn64M-lPZw

To learn more about MMR and ways to safely eliminate mold problems, please visit http://www.FastMoldRemoval.com, email mmr@moldsolutionsintl.com or call 708-441-7982.

About Mold Solutions & FastMoldRemoval.com
Mold Solutions, owner of FastMoldRemoval.com, is a Frankfort, IL, based company. They manufacture MMR mold stain remover, the world's premier mold stain remover. MMR is a commercial grade mold and mildew stain remover formulated to immediately eliminate mold and mildew stains present on wood and other hard surfaces. MMR penetrates soiled areas almost instantly, leaving surfaces clean and free from mold stains.

Clarks Summit, PA – Highland Associates announces that the Pennsylvania State University--Worthington Scranton Campus, David and Ann Hawk Student Success Center, Dunmore, PA and The St. George Library, Teen Center, Staten Island, NY, have been selected for publication in American School and University 2013 Educational Interiors Showcase. The projects will be featured in the August 2013 edition of the magazine and also on the Web at www.SchoolDesigns.com. An annual competition honoring educational interior design excellence, the Educational Interiors Showcase spotlights projects representing some of the most effective learning environments in the country.

Envisioned as a means of providing high-quality, responsive, student-centered services, The David and Ann Hawk Student Success Center on the Pennsylvania State University's Worthington Scranton Campus, helps undergraduates maximize their potential and succeed both academically and personally.
The newly renovated area brings services that were once spread across the campus to one central location. The campus' Financial Aid Office, Veterans' Affairs, Health and Wellness Center, Counseling Services, a learning center, peer tutoring areas, a mini-computer lab, career services, leadership/personal development services and a conference room are no longer separated by physical boundaries. The new space is bright, open, and flexible – drawing students in and fostering collaboration.

In an historic building, adjacent to the New York harbor, St. George Library Teen Center is the only space catering to Young Adults among Staten Island public libraries. The glass windows in the main reading room, which date back to 1907, provide a spectacular view of the harbor. Inspired by the view and community's connection to the harbor, the Teen Center engages its patrons with a nautical theme. Spanning the ceiling are curved plastic 'sails' to simulate the movement of the ocean wind, while ocean colors invigorate the space. The Teen Center creates a dynamic space, separate from the main area, allowing teens to interact and explore the library's resources and multi-media technology.

A jury of American Institute of Architects (AIA) members and education administrators evaluated submissions for architectural firms, schools and universities across the country. Each project was judged based on the following considerations: purposeful design, cost-efficient solutions and planning, inviting and engaging spaces, designs that create new solutions and uses, sensitivity to the community, transparent and integrated technology and innovation and creativity. Highland Associates provided architectural, engineering and interior design services on both of these projects.

About Highland AssociatesCelebrating our 25th year in business, Highland Associates is a multi-disciplined firm specializing in Architecture, Engineering and Interior Design with offices located in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania and New York, New York. Highland Associates offers a comprehensive list of services to satisfy the most difficult projects. Each day, our 160+ design professionals and support staff work as a team to analyze client needs and create practical solutions to meet the functional, aesthetic and financial objective of any project.

The value proposition for the CIH credential is based on increased professional credibility, personal satisfaction and a competitive edge for job placement and advancement. This fact is recognized by many college students who are planning to enter the industrial hygiene profession when they graduate.

The CIH certification has been the premier occupational hygiene certification for more than 50 years, gaining national and international recognition during that time period. The requirements for education, experience and examination are rigorous and some of the most demanding in the industry. While some other certification programs have relaxed their requirements in recent years, the CIH has continued to set high standards so that only the best occupational hygienists achieve the CIH. This fact helps to explain why so many aspiring students preparing for a career in the industrial hygiene profession view earning the CIH designation as an important step in their future.

For students and non-certified professionals still learning about the many benefits of the CIH program, ABIH released a video last year that provides an overview of why people become certified. The online video, available at www.ABIH.org, communicates the value of the CIH credential to those considering applying to the program.

'Although college graduates entering the industrial hygiene profession need to also develop their professional level IH experience, it's great to know that many have already made the decision to apply for the CIH once they become eligible,' reported Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH. 'To assist with the process, ABIH has also made available the Candidate Handbook which provides information about the qualifications and examination processes and all of the requirements so that they can understand the steps involved in earning the CIH.'

To view the ABIH's Candidate Handbook, please visit:
http://www.abih.org/sites/default/files/downloads/CandidateHandbookJanuary2013.pdf

To learn more about the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or the CIH program, please email abih@ABIH.org , visit http://www.ABIH.org, or call (517) 321-2638.

About the American Board of Industrial Hygiene
Since 1960, ABIH, a not-for-profit corporation, has been the world's largest, premier organization for certifying professionals in the practice of industrial hygiene.

Last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed two rules to help protect Americans from exposure to formaldehyde. These proposed rules are meant to ensure that composite wood products produced domestically or imported into the United States meet the formaldehyde emission standards established by Congress.

'The proposed regulations announced today reflect EPA's continued efforts to protect the public from exposure to harmful chemicals in their daily lives,' said James J. Jones, EPA's acting assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention. 'Once final, the rules will reduce the public's exposure to this harmful chemical found in many products in our homes and workplaces."

The first proposed new rule would limit how much formaldehyde may be emitted from hardwood plywood, medium-density fiberboard, particleboard and finished goods, that are sold, supplied, offered for sale, manufactured, or imported in the United States. The second rule would establish a third-party certification framework designed to ensure that manufacturers of composite wood products meet the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) formaldehyde emission standards by having their composite wood products certified though an accredited third-party certifier.

The month before, the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) posted a new online document about reducing formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products and health effects due to exposure. It stated, 'Health effects can include nose and throat irritation, a burning sensation of the eyes, wheezing, difficulty in breathing, and can trigger asthma symptoms in those with asthma. Sensitive individuals may experience fatigue, headache, and nausea. Formaldehyde is also a known human carcinogen.'

One company that has been on the forefront of protecting people at work and in their homes from exposure to elevated levels of formaldehyde is Clark Seif Clark. 'A number of building materials, furnishing, consumer products and workplace activities can expose people to elevated levels of formaldehyde,' reported Franco Seif, President of Clark Seif Clark (CSC), a leading indoor environmental quality consulting firm. 'CSC provides testing and consulting services to identify and resolve cases of formaldehyde exposure.'

To learn more about testing for formaldehyde or other indoor environmental concerns, please visit Clark Seif Clark at http://www.csceng.com, email csc@csceng.com or call (800) 807-1118.

About Clark Seif Clark
CSC was established in 1989 to help clients in both public and private sectors address environmental, IAQ, and health and safety (EH&S) issues. CSC is a leading provider of these services with multiple offices along the western seaboard and southwest. The company believes in science-based protocols and has a strong background in engineering, making them the preferred environmental consultants to industrial clients, healthcare facilities, architects, schools, builders, contractors, developers and real estate professionals.

— WebWireID175775 —

Architecture / Construction / Building

Business Announcements

Environment

Media Advisory

Workforce Management / Human Resources

WebWire® | More Feeds

Recent weather conditions have brought exceptional amounts of rain to many parts of the Midwest. Last week, the Holland Sentinel published a story about what their readers in Western Michigan should know about mold growing in their homes.

The article discusses the recent rains and the fact that many property owners have experienced moisture issues in their basements. It stated, 'Mold often grows quickly, destroying possessions and posing a risk to health. Know what to look for and what to do if mold invades your home.'

Not only can mold cause structural damage and lower a property's value, but mold can cause a wide assortment of medical concerns. These range from allergies and asthma triggers to toxins produced by some types of mold and even fungal infections in people with a weakened immune system.

In a suburb of Chicago, one company has developed a product that quickly and efficiently removes mold and mildew stains from many common building materials. 'MMR has been proven highly effective and utilized extensively following Hurricane Sandy and the flooding that occurred several months ago across many parts of the Midwest,' reported Chris Heller from FastMoldRemoval.com. 'Although MMR is a favorite among mold remediation professionals, because it is a safe, biodegradable, and non-flammable commercial grade product, it is also an ideal product to be used by property owners facing mold challenges deemed small enough in scope by the EPA to be performed by the homeowner.'

MMR works by utilizing a powerful cleaning agent that penetrates soiled areas almost instantly, leaving surfaces clean and free from mold stains. An online video showing how effective MMR is at removing mold and mildew stains can be seen at:
http://youtu.be/Eqn64M-lPZw

To learn more about MMR mold stain remover, Shockwave disinfectant, and the tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) that can help to safely eliminate mold problems, please visit http://www.FastMoldRemoval.com, email mmr@moldsolutionsintl.com or call 708-441-7982.

The biodegradable product is manufactured weekly in the United States and shipped on demand to contractors, home owners, and building occupants.

Harmony Township, NJ: Mark your calendar for the 76th annual Warren County Farmers' Fair featuring the Hot Air Balloon Festival, from Saturday, July 27 to Saturday, August 3, 2013. No matter what age or what your likes are, you are bound to find something interest at this charming old-time country fair. A visit to the fair may even make you feel like a kid again. There are plenty of animal exhibits that will bring back memories of visiting a petting zoo for the first time. And what boy or girl doesn't like antique tractors or cars. The classic cars in our numerous car shows are probably what your parents showed off as new driving around the neighborhood.

The Fair is nostalgic for many that visit. For some it feels like they have gone back in time. Admission prices are even pleasantly low for today's day and age at $6 for an adult, $4 for children ages 5-12.

Admission to the Fair also includes the Hot Air Balloon Festival, presented by JCP&L. In it's 13th year the Balloon Festival is a Fair highlight, with mass balloon ascensions, powered by AmeriGas, at 6:30 pm each evening. Tethered rides will be offered in the evenings for $10 per person, on a first come basis and weather permitting. For details or to book a full flight call 908-454-3431.

There is nightly action in the Main Arena, which includes two Demolition Derbies, Truck Mud Bog, along with Truck and Tractor Pulls. Ticketed Main Arena events range from a modest $5 to $12 and may be obtained in advance by mail order. Sunday, July 28th the Main Arena Events are free, kicking off with an Ox Pull demo and the Hay Bale Rolling Contest. On closing day Saturday, August 3, the ATV Mud Bog is also free of charge for fairgoers. To order your advance tickets download the form from the website and fill out and send with a check and self addressed stamped envelope.

There are plenty of contests that visitors can participate in or will enjoy watching. Visit the website and click on the Rules and Regs to view the competitions that might be of interest. In 2012 the Fair introduced a Country Idol Contest, Truck Show and Mr. Warren County. By popular demand there will be a Ms. Warren County contest in 2013. Traditional favorites include a variety of 4-H & FFA shows, Kiddie Pedal Pull, home and garden contests, a talent show and numerous car shows throughout the week.

Teen contests will be going on from 1-6 pm each day. Teens can compete in individual contests, as a 'crew of two' or in a triathlon. Contests for individuals include watermelon eating and a cotton ball count. For the crew of two contests its hay bale rolling and a balloon shave. The triathlon includes the Egg and Spoon, Tricycle Race and the Orange Peel contests.

For first time attendees we trust you will enjoy the relaxed pace, charming atmosphere, affordable prices and nostalgic attractions throughout the Fair like the antique tractor show and the traditional arts expo.

The Fair is a veritable wonderland of fun experiences. From the animal barns to the Kids' Corral, the Fair is a place where you will find wholesome entertainment, affordably! The Kids' Corral gives fairgoers with small children value added opportunities, as everything in the Corral is free of charge. Little ones can make crafts, enjoy clown shows, compete in contests for prizes and more. This year's line up includes Merriloons the Clown, Rizzo's Reptiles, Winakung at Waterloo and environmental educator Diana Dove. Contests include Pie eating, egg rolling and Fear Factor Veggie Style where we make your child eat vegetables.

Warren County is one of the most scenic counties in New Jersey with the event being easily accessible from Routes 80, 78 and 22.

Harmony Township, NJ: Perhaps you've heard that any two people on the planet have a connection through only six others. The immensity of the world becomes much more intimate when we consider this possibility. In a way, we have similar connections to our past through our own surroundings, if we are willing to explore them.

The New Jersey Highlands has many tales to share with those who will listen. In 2014, our state will celebrate 350 years of history and much of this has a connection to the Highlands. In fact, you could say that within only six miles of one location, you could explore the past 20,000 years.

To make this point, let's use a remote part of Warren County as an example.

Montana Mountain is home to the annual Last Fling Pumpkin Sling, a fundraiser for the Highlands Tourism Partnership. It is located on one of the highest and most scenic lands in the state. To those who attend this event, the surrounding area may appear far removed from civilization and significant places. But listen to what stories lie within a mere six miles of this event.

If travelling from the east to get there, you might ride along historic Route 46 to avoid the high-speed traffic of the interstates. Along the way, you could enjoy Hot Dog Johnny's, a popular stop for 75 years for those making their way to the Poconos. But during your ride, take notice of the beautiful Pequest River that the route parallels. Its course continuously flows through evidence of the past 20,000 years.

Only six miles to the north of Montana Mountain, the Pequest makes its way through the Highlands and empties into the Delaware River in Belvidere, a quaint Victorian town and County Seat. Along its course, it follows a geologic feature known as the terminal moraine. Though many have concerns about global climate change, this area has experienced it. This feature marks where the Wisconsin Ice Age came to an abrupt halt.

Found six miles south of Montana Mountain is one of the most renowned archaeological sites in the east. The Plenge Site records the Paleo-Indian Period through the discovery of almost 1,000 artifacts. Though the site itself cannot be visited, you can see time-period artifacts on display at the nearby Merrill Creek Reservoir Visitor Center.

Just down the road from the Pumpkin Sling site is a beautifully restored stone Quaker Meeting House. Refurbished to its original 1753 appearance, it is a remnant of French and Indian War era of American history. Because of its remote location, the area here known as Montana was also a haven for Tory sympathizers during the Revolutionary War.

Found only a few miles north along County Route 519 in Harmony is the Hoff-Vannatta Farmstead. The farmstead hosts two open-house events each year and is also available for visits during the Pumpkin Sling and other local events. It features a restored home, summer kitchen, a barn, and several outbuildings from the 18th and 19th centuries and time-period life is re-enacted for visitors when it is open.

Nearby, the town of Oxford shares stories from The Revolutionary War and the Industrial Revolution. Historic Shippen Manor claims connections to the Continental Army and the intrigue of the Benedict Arnold family. The Oxford Furnace processed much of the iron ore of the region and is known for innovating hot-air blast furnace techniques of the 1800's.

The Morris Canal is perhaps one of the most historically significant assets within our 6 miles, to the south. Within those miles, we find the origin of the Morris Canal on the Delaware River, between Easton, PA and Phillipsburg, NJ. The Canal had a series of locks that went from the lowest point in Phillipsburg to the highest point of Lake Hopatcong and then back down and across New Jersey, ending near what is today Liberty State Park.

One of the most innovative thinkers in New Jersey history also spent time locally. Over 100 years ago, Thomas Edison experimented with the many uses of concrete. The Portland Cement Plant falls within 6 miles of the Pumpkin Sling, as does the Concrete Mile, due south. Thomas Edison dreamed that many homes and roads would one day be constructed of concrete. The Concrete Mile was poured by Edison over 100 years ago and until 2007, when the last section of the original concrete was replaced, stood the test of time.

This is but a small sampling of assets we have in a relatively small area, but by no means all of them. We could talk about the timber rafting industry, the first Gyro-Copter airport in the nation, the Harmony Speedway and a few Century Farms. More recently, the Warren County Farmers' Fair, an agriculturally-centered fair with a few new attractions – like a Hot Air Balloon Festival. What better way to get a snapshot of 6 miles packed with so much history than from a birds-eye view?

The Highlands is truly a landscape of time and treasure. Isn't it amazing that only six miles can connect you with so much of our Nation's past and people? Experience your own backyard: explore and enjoy the Highlands of New Jersey.

For more details visit www.highlandstourism.org

— WebWireID175684 —

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Lifestyle / Society

Media Advisory

Travel Industry

WebWire® | More Feeds

Sarasota, FL As difficult as it is to come to terms with, hair loss and hair thinning are an aspect of aging that bother women and men the most. Until now no other hair loss vitamin guaranteed results.

PRO-VÄXA is an advanced hair loss vitamin clinically tested and proven to restore hair growth without invasive treatments and negative side effects.

PRO-VÄXA is the result of extensive research and development by Robert Carlson, MD, FACS of Sarasota, FL. After many years as a heart surgeon and advocate for preventative healthcare, Dr. Carlson wanted to help people overcome hair loss and hair thinning.

Dr. Carlson's PRO-VÄXA has been carefully formulated to treat the underlying physiological causes of receding hair lines, lost hair volume and impaired hair re-growth. PRO-VÄXA counteracts the most common causes of hair loss and hair thinning such as stress, hormonal changes, genetics and inadequate nutrition.

Since PRO-VÄXA is a completely natural hair loss remedy, patients don't need to be concerned about nasty side effects. This is a very important, as hair loss patient Tom explains 'Since my father and grandfather were nearly bald, I wasn't too surprised when my hair began receding in my mid 30's. Surprised, no, but hate it, yes. I've been on a long journey trying many products over the last five years including topical solutions, nasty medications with side effects all to no avail.'

Tom, who was part of PRO-VÄXA's clinical study states, 'I began taking PRO-VÄXA with some reservation as nothing else had worked. After 2 months, the channels in my scalp filled in and I have a hairline again that's not mid-way back on my head. This is a great product. Highly recommend.'

After one month of taking PRO-VÄXA hair loss vitamins, patients can look forward to a significant reduction in hair loss. Over the following months, hair re-growth will improve and hair will become thicker and stronger.

Dr. Carlson firmly believes in PRO-VÄXA and offers a money back guarantee. Anyone that takes PRO-VÄXA as prescribed for 90 days will receive a full refund if there isn't an improvement in hair regrowth.

— WebWireID175619 —

Household / Consumer / Cosmetics

Media Advisory

Personal Services

Retail

Supplementary Medicine / Nutrition

WebWire® | More Feeds

This Economic Downturn Can Be Corrected

We are in the sixth year of an economic downturn, and so far the federal government has followed the same procedures that have always failed. Congress must ignore banks and the finance sector and stop stimulus activities with the states; the problem doesn't exist there. An overall problem has hit the private business sector, and its businesses, in aggregate, have faced a reduction in incoming work. That is what needs the stimulus.

The nation has faced this problem before and what needs to be done is known -- and implementation won't cost taxpayers a dime, or the government any lost tax revenue.

The Nation's Sole Source of Income

It is fundamental that all recognize: Essentially, the sole economic source of wealth for the United States and its people is the private business sector. We have approximately 29 million firms in the United States, all working for their share and more of their market, and their individual activities create our business environment. Their fortunes, collectively, determine whether our nation is prospering or otherwise. From small neighborhood restaurants, laundries, service stations, barber shops, beauty shops, to local machine shops, mining and construction firms, product manufacturers, to great national, international ones such as General Electric, Boeing Company, etc. All of them have their own capabilities, products, or services to sell, rent, lease, etc., and each of their managers and employees have their own unique expertise.

Each of those 29 million firms, unique capabilities well in hand, charts its own course and aims its people in a selected unique direction.

Banks and Financial Markets Do Not Contribute to the Wealth of the Nation

From the attention government and economists are giving banking and finances, it would appear that the financial sector is an important contributor to the financial health of the nation and its economy. But that is wrong.

Banking and financial institutions are where the nation goes with money earned from the private sector -- that which is left over after living expenses have been paid (savings). Banks and finance can contribute to an individual's or a group's wealth, but not to the nation's -- unless money from foreign sources is attracted by financial activities.

When money is deposited in a bank, it earns interest. And that is why, in times past, banks were used for savings. Banks used deposited money to invest in other financial activities that would earn them income, from which they could pay depositors a portion for the use of their money (interest). However, the bank's income from those other financial activities was funded by other people's savings, which had been obtained from their earnings from private businesses. Bank and financial employees are actually paid with money the bank obtains from the private sector.

If the private sector only paid its employees enough to cover the employees' immediate expenses, with nothing left over, banks and financial institutions could not exist.

The downturn problem we have rests solely with the private business sector; it is this sector -- and only this sector – that should be the focus of our attention.

The People and Money Know

Nobody, including those in the business community, ever sees a downturn coming. Individual firms will see incoming orders begin to taper off, and at meetings with others that becomes a topic for conversation. That is the beginning. If enough other firms begin to see orders taper off, however, and that continues for a time, the nation soon becomes aware: Business quarterly reports, in aggregate, make it evident that overall business is down, and at that point the media let us know that a possible business downturn or recession exists.

But always, among the 29 million firms that comprise our marketplace, some businesses will be doing well. We know how to find them, fund them, and begin the healing process; it comes naturally with the free market, and it doesn't cost the government or the taxpayers a dime.

The private sector has 132 million citizens who satisfy household needs with products from all 29 million businesses. They spend money to buy an infinite variety of products or services that they need or desire from those businesses every day, and that money, secondarily, is finding all of the firms peculiarly poised for growth and is feeding them.

Nobody Else Knows

Nobody knows who those firms or business sectors, in aggregate, are -- regardless of degrees held and the number of computer studies made. Nobody can determine the businesses in the private sector on which government money should be effectively spent to stimulate the economy.

In addition, the government has no money; the money it spends has to come from private business. So to stimulate the economy, government is taking from one part of business in an effort to stimulate all businesses. It has been evident since 2007, for example, that government is taking from the wrong business sector -- oil and gas energy, that we know is poised to grow, to stimulate another -- sun and wind energy, which is definitely not ready.

Businesses Began Recovery Efforts Immediately

Businesses have already started work on recovery. All of those firms who noted the tapering off of orders or backlogs for a period, had immediately begun to review internal business practices more closely, looking for ways to reduce costs and to improve efficiency, and to dismiss less productive workers. And as it continues, more of those managers whose firms make up our economy will begin to look for ways to stimulate sales or develop new opportunities for their businesses – price reductions, freebies, letters, radio, TV, Internet advertising, whatever. This is all the private sector can do. The next step – a most important one – has to be taken by government.

Government has responded with spending in states on construction, etc., and we have been told: The economy has improved, but not as well as we expected. The improvement had nothing to do with the state stimulus efforts. The efforts described that had been taken by businesses and the spending by consumers made the corrections and will, with time, finalize the healing and make the market grow.

Government Can Help

To help the efforts, and not cost a dime, the government should review business regulations, those from which income springs, and eliminate those which retard growth (i.e. permit oil and gas exploration to grow, back away from auto mpg regulations, etc.).

But government can shorten the period of distress further. To make the nation's period of economic distress the absolute shortest, the government has to do this: Give all private sector businesses more money (lower tax rates with no time limit), and give the private citizens more money to spend (lower tax rates with no time limit). Then stand back.

If government does its job and reduces taxes as indicated, consumers will do their share to help. They will spend available dollars, seeking businesses poised for growth. Private citizens, using new money they now have because of tax reductions, will cautiously listen to business messages, look around, take advantage of some of those freebies and spend a little of the money for products at reduced prices. Cautiously, those who need houses, automobiles, and other major items will begin to look around. When their need becomes too great to ignore, a few will begin to take the risk to purchase needed houses, or automobiles for transportation. With time, when these customers' purchases have increased sufficiently, the view into the future looks clearer, new orders are brisk, and the backlog is growing--farmers, manufacturers, and services begin procedures to increase output. First, managers keep up by working their people overtime; then, if the backlog keeps growing and they can't handle it with their workers, they start hiring part-time people. Finally, if the backlog of orders continues to grow, they begin to hire new, full time workers.

At this point, if enough individual businesses, collectively, are seeing this, the recession is over, unemployment rates have dropped, business growth and government receipts are healthy, and some companies begin to invest in plant expansion and new production equipment.

Adoption of ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) technology to achieve superior surface disinfection in hospital rooms has grown dramatically in recent years. Hospitals are embracing this technology in products such as UVDI's V-360+ UV Room Sanitizer, designed to generate high intensity UV-C energy to quickly disinfect surfaces contaminated with viruses, bacteria and fungi. This technology has been proven effective against superbugs such as MRSA and C. difficile that cause serious illnesses and deaths.

The V-360+ UV Room Sanitizer is a portable device designed to safely and effectively disinfect surfaces in healthcare settings. Surfaces with direct UV-C light exposure are disinfected in just a few minutes, but surfaces that are shadowed can take longer.

Standard paint and wall coverings typically absorb a high percentage of the powerful UV-C energy and thus are poor reflectors of UV-C into shadowed areas. Recently, a patent pending highly reflective UV-C coating has been developed by Lumacept of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Named UVC-MAX, the coating has been designed to increase UV-C reflectance from surfaces for higher disinfection efficacy in shadowed areas. Testing has proven that UVC-MAX applied to walls and ceilings delivers an average of 1400% more UV-C energy into shadowed areas compared to standard surface coatings. This breakthrough technology now allows shadowed areas to receive high level UV disinfection in times usually associated with line of sight UV treatment.

'I am delighted that Lumacept has selected UVDI to distribute the UVC-MAX line of coatings,' stated Richard Hayes, President of UltraViolet Devices, Inc. (UVDI). 'Adding Lumacept coatings to UVDI's V-360+ UV Room Sanitizer and Dose Verify™ technology provides hospitals with a complete UV disinfection system. Our tests have proven that when Lumacept is applied, shadowed surfaces can't hide.'

MINNEAPOLIS – June 4, 2013 —Logic PD will present at the international conference, Battery Power 2013, being held June 6 and 7 in Denver. Battery Power 2013 will highlight the latest developments and technologies in the battery industry, with more than 35 speakers, including Ryan Striker, senior electrical engineer at Logic PD. Logic PD leverages broad experience, use cases, and the latest technologies to design and develop battery-powered devices, helping their customers reduce the time-to-market and launch user-driven products.

Striker is scheduled to present at 12:45 p.m. MT on June 7. His presentation, 'Cutting the Cord: Choosing a Battery Architecture to Satisfy Product & Safety Requirements,' will explore ways to safely and efficiently integrate batteries into an overall system design, and aspects to consider when designing and developing portable, compact devices.

Recently, Logic PD introduced a free, interactive battery power design tool to help product designers and developers predetermine the battery power requirements for new products. The company also made a significant advancement toward meeting the demand for instant-on devices. Logic PD developed proprietary software that enables Logic PD's System on Module (SOM) customers to reduce the boot time required for battery-powered devices to less than one second.

Logic PD also developed WattsonTM, a power measurement and performance monitoring application that delivers real-time graphical feedback and data logging capabilities without the need for external oscilloscopes and meters. Using this information guides designers to the lowest power and highest performance software combination for a particular product. Wattson is instrumental in helping to minimize power in all operational modes, which maximizes battery life in the end product.

To try Logic PD's battery power design tool, visit: http://powerdesign.logicpd.com/.

To learn more about battery power design considerations, listen to this podcast featuring Curt McNamara, a principal electrical engineer at Logic PD: http://www.logicpd.com/innovation/point-of-view/battery-powered-design-podcast/

About the Speaker
Ryan Striker is a senior electrical engineer at Logic PD with nearly 10 years of experience in systems engineering.
