EEEFuelAdditive.com Launches March 16, 2010

A gasoline or diesel fuel additive that has been used in 25 countries for over 20 years is finally available commercially in the USA and Canada. Its name is XP3, but North American sponsor Joseph Krush has dubbed it 'EEE'. That stands for Economical, Efficient, and Ecological. It is Economical, because it greatly reduces fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance costs. It is Efficient, because it disperses water, and improves combustion. And it is Ecological, because it reduces fumes and toxic emissions. It is the only gasoline or diesel fuel additive on the market that does all three of these things, and contains no alcohol.

'Almost nobody in North America knows about this amazing money-saver yet' says Krush, 'because it's only been available here for a few months. And it's not available in stores.' Krush is the first one in North America to launch a massive Internet/e-mail Distributor Sponsorship campaign for XP3 at: www.EEEFuelAdditive.com

In 2007, there were already 254.4 million passenger vehicles registered in the USA. So, together with all commercial vehicles, there are more motor vehicles on this continent than there are people. And together, they burn over 260 billion gallons of gas and diesel fuel annually. When you consider that, the target market for this ingenious invention is huge.

'I need at least one head distributor in every state/province, city, and in each of the 169 area codes in North America to join my team and form their own,' says Krush. 'This is a highly lucrative MLM venture with no up-line. Everyone who joins my team joins the top line. I provide all the free training and information that distributors need, and there is enough to do here for hundreds of people.' For more information, visit Krush's website at: www.EEEFuelAdditive.com

— WebWireID113817 —

Automotive

Maritime / Marine

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® Copyright © 2010 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Indianapolis, IN -- Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has been awarded a $75 million MissionCare™ contract by the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Under the eleven-month contract, which includes four option years, logistics support will be provided for the Rolls-Royce AE 1107C-Liberty engines that power the U.S. Marine Corps' MV-22 Osprey and U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command's CV-22 Osprey. The total contract has a potential value exceeding $600 million.

Dennis Jarvi, Rolls-Royce, President - Defense North America, said: 'This contract further strengthens Rolls-Royce's long-standing relationship with our U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force customers. Our ability to deliver innovative support solutions allows us to improve product performance, readiness, efficiency and generate cost savings for the U.S. forces as they accomplish their critical missions.'

This MissionCare contract will provide a full suite of engine management services support for more than 250 aircraft. The services will include engine management and repair, logistics support, and field service representatives at six V-22 operating locations in the U.S.

The V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft takes off and lands like a helicopter, but flies like an airplane. Powered by twin Rolls-Royce AE 1107C-Liberty engines, Osprey fly at twice the speed, with three times the payload and up to five times the range, of conventional helicopters. The U.S. government approved full-rate production for the aircraft in September 2005 and awarded a multi-year procurement contract for 167 aircraft in March 2008.

MissionCare is a comprehensive engine-care program customized to meet the needs of Rolls-Royce defense customers. The AE 1107C MissionCare contract is truly "power by the hour' with payment calculated on a fixed price based on aircraft hours flown.

 1. Rolls-Royce, a world-leading provider of power systems and services for use on land, at sea and in the air, has established a strong position in global markets - civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy.
2. As a result of this strategy, Rolls-Royce today has a broad customer base comprising more than 600 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators, 160 armed forces, more than 2,000 marine customers, including 70 navies, and energy customers in nearly 120 countries, with an installed base of 54,000 gas turbines.
3. Rolls-Royce employs over 38,000 skilled people in offices, manufacturing and service facilities in 50 countries. The Group has a strong commitment to apprentice and graduate recruitment, and to further developing employee skills.
4. In 2009, Rolls-Royce invested £864 million on research and development, two thirds of which had the objective of further improving the environmental aspects of its products, in particular the reduction of emissions.
5. Annual underlying revenues were £10.1 billion in 2009, of which about half came from services revenues. The firm and announced order book stood at £58.3 billion at 31 December 2009, providing visibility of future levels of activity.
6. In North America, Rolls-Royce employs more than 8,000 people in 66 locations in 26 states and seven sites in six Canadian provinces. The region is home to several of the company's global businesses including Energy (Ohio), Defense and Helicopters (Indiana). Corporate headquarters for the region is in Virginia. Each year Rolls-Royce businesses in North America generate roughly 35% of global sales.

— WebWireID113896 —

Aerospace / Defense

Business Announcements

Government

Homeland Security

Maritime / Marine

WebWire® Copyright © 2010 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Wärtsilä, in consortium with IMS Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH, has been engaged by RWE Innogy, the renewable energy arm of the German utility company RWE, as its designer to provide the basic design and consultancy services for a jack up crane vessel. Two such vessels with GL class-approval have been ordered by RWE Innogy to be used for constructing offshore wind farms. The shipbuilding contracts have been awarded to Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME), and delivery of the vessels is scheduled for late 2011.

Tailored specifically for year-round construction of offshore wind farms, the Wärtsilä-IMS advanced jack-up crane vessel is designed to remain operational under harsh Northern European sea and wind conditions. It also sets new standards for reliability and environmentally sound operation.

The basic design by Wärtsilä-IMS takes into account the specialised needs involved for the construction of offshore wind farms. The vessels are 100 metres long and 40 metres wide, and feature an 800-ton crane for transporting and handling the foundations for the latest generation of up to 5MW and 6 MW offshore wind turbines, as well as the turbine towers, nacelles, rotors and blades. The vessels have sufficient deck area and deadweight capacity to carry the components for up to four complete wind turbine units or several foundations. For operation in shallow water, a four-point mooring system is used, while in deeper waters a DP2 dynamic positioning system controlling steerable thrusters is employed.

The vessels are designated to undertake foundation and turbine installation at RWE Innogy's currently planned wind farms – 'North Sea East', 'Innogy North Sea 1' and 'Gwynt y Môr'.

Link to a picture
Caption: Wärtsilä/IMS advanced jack-up crane vessel for constructing offshore wind farms have been ordered by RWE Innogy, Germany.

Wärtsilä in brief:
Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets.

Entry into promising ocean power market

Erlangen, Germany, Siemens Energy has acquired a minority stake in Britain's Marine Current Turbines, a pioneer in the design and development of tidal current energy turbines. With the acquisition of a stake of just below 10 Percent in Marine Current Turbines, which is based in Bristol, England, Siemens is entering a new market with good future prospects and at the same time expanding its Environmental Portfolio.

'With this investment in an early stage company we're securing access to an innovative technology in the field of renewables,' said René Umlauft, CEO of the Renewable Energy Division of Siemens Energy. 'As one of the technology leaders in ocean power Marine Current Turbines is a suitable partner for us to enter the promising ocean power market.' By 2020, experts anticipate double-digit growth rates for the ocean power market.

Marine current turbines generate electricity by utilizing water flows such as tidal currents. The turbine is fixed on a pile and is driven by the flow of the tides. This technology effectively is similar to an underwater wind turbine. The rotor blades are not driven by wind power but by marine currents. The water has an energy density of more than 800 times that of wind. Twin rotors rotate with the movement of the tidal flow and pitch through 180 degrees to optimally track tidal current direction and speed. The key advantage is that the generated power is predictable in the tidal cycle.

Marine Current Turbines has already successfully implemented its first commercial demonstrator project SeaGen in Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland. Since November 2008, two axial turbines with a combined capacity of 1.2 megawatts have been feeding power into the grid to supply about 1500 homes. SeaGen is therefore currently the world's most powerful marine current turbine. Suitable sites are essential for the success of such projects. In particular, coastal regions with strong tidal currents such as those in the UK, Ireland, Canada, France and East Asia, offer major potential for this ecofriendly power generation technology. Tidal power stations are part of the Green Grid plan for the North Sea. Nine European countries are planning to connect renewable power generation sources like wind, tidal or hydro power to a HVDC underwater energy grid in the North Sea.

Martin Wright, Managing Director of Marine Current Turbines said: 'Siemens' investment in MCT underlines the significant commercial potential that exists for tidal energy across the globe, and enables us to draw upon the company's extensive knowledge and experience in turbine generation technology. We are delighted to have Siemens on board. Siemens is a company with an outstanding international reputation and will help us develop our technology and deliver tidal energy on a commercial and global basis.'

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world's leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. In fiscal 2009 (ended September 30), the Energy Sector had revenues of approximately EUR25.8 billion and received new orders totaling approximately EUR30 billion and posted a profit of EUR3.3 billion. On September 30, 2009, the Energy Sector had a work force of more than 85,100. Further information is available at:www.siemens.com/energy

Marine Current Turbines Ltd was established in 2000. The company has its first commercial demonstrator project SeaGen in Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland and it is working on a deployment in Canada's Bay of Fundy with Canadian company, Minas Bay Pulp & Power. Since February 2008, the company has partnered RWE npower on plans to develop a tidal farm in waters off Anglesey, North Wales. Other shareholders include Carbon Trust Investments (since December 2009), EDF Energy, ESB International and Bank Invest. In September 2009, MCT was ranked the world's top tidal energy company in The Guardian/Clean Tech Global 100 survey, and in June 2009 won Renewable Energy Developer of the Year in the UK Renewable Energy Association Annual Awards. www.marineturbines.com

— WebWireID113281 —

Business Announcements

Machinery

Maritime / Marine

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® Copyright © 2010 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Wärtsilä, the marine industry's leading ship power system integrator, has signed a contract with the German shipowner Jüngerhans, located in Haren (Ems), Germany, to refit two of its vessels with Wärtsilä Slow Steaming Upgrade Kits to cut fuel costs. The 1997-built vessels are equipped with 7-cylinder Wärtsilä RTA62U main engines.

"The Wärtsilä Slow Steaming Upgrade Kits will give these ships considerable flexibility for adapting to the prevailing challenging market conditions. They offer considerable cost savings when slow steaming the ships, while retaining the capability for full speed whenever necessary,' comments Mr Herm Jüngerhans, Managing Director, Jüngerhans.

In response to over-capacity in the market and a desire to cut overall fuel consumption, during recent months charterers have adjusted both their services and the speed of their ships. Slow steaming has become an established way of operating vessels, particularly in the container segment. Slow steaming offers clear benefits for charterers in terms of substantially reduced fuel consumption and considerable savings in overall ship operation costs.

Wärtsilä Slow Steaming Upgrade Kit

For ships powered by Wärtsilä RTA and RT-flex low-speed engines with more than one turbocharger, Wärtsilä introduced its Slow Steaming Upgrade Kit in 2008. The kit enables ship owners and operators to achieve major savings in fuel costs by allowing them to slow steam their ships.

'The Slow Steaming Upgrade Kit both extends the load range of the engine for continuous operation, and significantly reduces BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption) in the low-load range,' explains Jürgen Gerdes, Director, Services, Wärtsilä in Switzerland.

The Wärtsilä Upgrade Kit Slow Steaming also helps ship owners, operators and charterers to increase the flexibility of their engines, permitting them to run anywhere from 10% to 100% maximum load without operational restrictions, and to decrease the risk of engine fouling and excessive component temperatures. The BSFC figures that can be achieved are strongly dependent on the final NOX emission balances over the entire load range. For ships that must comply with the IMO NOX emission regulations, the restrictions imposed by the emissions limits will be evaluated in each case and a customized solution package offered.

'Operational flexibility was a major factor in our decision to choose Wärtsilä's solution. We foresee that the upgrade kit will give our vessels even more competitive advantages. We wanted to have a reliable slow steaming solution in order to be attractive in the market and this gives us an advantage over other charterers,' adds Mr Herm Jüngerhans.

Other orders and first operating results

With the order from Jüngerhans, the total amount of ordered upgrade kits has increased to twelve, and Wärtsilä is already able to assess the initial operating results for its Slow Steaming Upgrade Kit. For an 8-cylinder Wärtsilä RTA62U engine, it was possible to achieve fuel savings of up to 6-10 g/kWh in the optimal load range. On a 12-cylinder Wärtsilä RT-flex96C engine equipped with three turbochargers, the measured fuel savings of 8-12 g/kWh were slightly higher because the achievable savings are related to the number of turbochargers. Since installation, the vessels have been running successfully and the customers have had the flexibility of choosing whether to slow steam or not.

Wärtsilä in brief:
Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. By emphasising technological innovation and total efficiency, Wärtsilä maximises the environmental and economic performance of the vessels and power plants of its customers. In 2009, Wärtsilä's net sales totalled EUR 5.3 billion with more than 18,000 employees. The company has operations in 160 locations in 70 countries around the world. Wärtsilä is listed on the NASDAQ OMX Helsinki, Finland.

www.wartsila.com

Reederei Jüngerhans in brief:
As early as the 19th century, the grandfather of the two brothers Captain Heinrich and Captain Hermann Jüngerhans crossed the Atlantic on the sailing ship "HELENE" heading for South America. The ship, with a length of 24 metres and a load capacity of 220 tons, was built in 1890 in Haren (Ems) for "deep sea" trading.

Seventy years later, the grandchildren Captain Heinrich and Captain Hermann Jüngerhans carried on the family tradition as independent ship owners, launching their first own ship, the MV "STEFAN J", in 1965.

During the following decades, the shipping company developed continuously and with an orientation to the future. Numerous ships were ordered from selected shipyards around the world.
Today, the Shipping company Jüngerhans has launched about 100 vessels.

Due to the constant acquisition of new ships and the sale of older vessels, the company now has a very young and modern fleet. The expansion of the fleet has always been accomplished with a view toward the future. Moreover, the group has expanded through cooperations and investments, therefore securing its market position and opening up new areas of activity.

www.juengerhans.de

— WebWireID113138 —

Architecture / Construction / Building

Environment

Machinery

Maritime / Marine

Transportation / Shipping

WebWire® Copyright © 2010 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

The world's first solid oxide fuel cell unit, running on landfill gas, has successfully concluded the first phase of its validation programme. The power generating unit, which is developed and run by Wärtsilä, has been operating for more than 1500 hours producing electricity with extremely low emissions to households in Vaasa, Finland.

Operation of the Wärtsilä FC20 fuel cell power unit at Wärtsilä's New Energy validation site in Vaasa, Finland, has been extremely successful. The WFC20, which is developed and operated by Wärtsilä, is the first of its kind in the world. The unit is run on methane rich gas, originating from a nearby landfill. Methane is a strong greenhouse gas that would otherwise be harmful to the environment. The WFC20 is based on planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, which is supplied by the Danish company Topsoe Fuel Cell A/S. Wärtsilä is one of the world's leading companies in the development of fuel cell products based on SOFC technology.

The main project targets set by Wärtsilä for this groundbreaking power generation unit have all been achieved. The fuel cell unit has been in successful operation for more than 1500 hours. The demonstrated energy efficiency has reached very high levels, exhaust gas emissions are extremely low, and the unit has been able to operate consistently despite the bio gas having low and fluctuating methane content. The fuel cell unit produces an electric output of approximately 20 kW, which is enough to power approximately 10 households in the area. The thermal output of the unit ranges from 14 to 17 kW.

'We are very pleased with performance of our first fuel cell unit being operated in the field in a real and challenging environment. The entire experience has so far been very positive, and it provides an excellent platform for us to continue our work on fuel cell solutions for the future,' says Erkko Fontell, Director, Fuel cell, Wärtsilä Finland.

Close to zero emissions, very high efficiency

The varying composition of the methane rich gas from the landfill has been one of the main engineering challenges for the test site, and it has led to the development of an efficient control system. The functionality of the system has been fully validated. Landfill gas contains also a number of impurities, such as sulphur compounds, which need to be removed from the fuel before being fed to the fuel cell system. This has also been successfully achieved.

The exhaust gas emissions from WFC20 are measured as being extremely low. The fuel cell unit does not produce any measurable levels of harmful particles, sulphur oxide (SOx), or nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, even at part load conditions. When using bio gas as fuel, the emissions of CO2 are very close to carbon neutral.

Wärtsilä delivered a fuel cell unit producing electric and heating power to the Vaasa Housing Fair site. The unit is located in Suvilahti, approximately three kilometres east of the Vaasa city centre. The development of fuel cell technology is a part of Wärtsilä's long-term product development, aimed at supplementing Wärtsilä's product portfolio. The development of environmentally friendly, cleaner and sustainable energy production technologies is an essential part of Wärtsilä's strategy.

The landfill gas used by the fuel cell power plant is a renewable fuel, which means that the fuel cell technology enables the energy and climate package targets of the EU Commission to be attained.

According to the EU's climate and energy package, Finland is expected to increase its share of renewable sources from the present 28 per cent to 38 per cent of energy production by 2020.

Wärtsilä's centre of competence for fuel cell technology is located at Otaniemi in Espoo, and the operation of the New Energy site is supported by personnel from the company's Vaasa engine laboratory.

More related press releases:

Wärtsilä's fuel cell power plant at Vaasa Housing Fair inaugurated by Minister Pekkarinen (July 15, 2008)
Wärtsilä to deliver the world's first SOFC fuel cell power plant using landfill gas to the Vaasa Housing Fair site (February 21, 2008)

Wärtsilä in brief
Wärtsilä is a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets. By emphasising technological innovation and total efficiency, Wärtsilä maximises the environmental and economic performance of the vessels and power plants of its customers.

In 2009, Wärtsilä's net sales totalled EUR 5.3 billion with more than 18,000 employees.

Thales UK today announces that it has been awarded a contract by BAE Systems to upgrade three Trafalgar-class and three Astute-class submarines with the Sonar 2076 Stage 5 system.

These submarines are currently fitted with the 2076 Stage 4 system. Once all the work is completed, 2076 Stage 5 will be fully deployed across the Royal Navy's (RN's) nuclear-powered attack (SSN) submarine fleet.

This contract builds on Thales UK's relationship with BAE Systems Submarine Solutions, and is a demonstration of the success of the Performance Partnering Agreement jointly put in place.

The 'Stage 5 Inboard Replacement' (Stage 5 IR) contract is the latest in a series of developments to improve the capability, efficiency and through-life cost of the system to ensure that Sonar 2076 retains its reputation as the world's most advanced, fully integrated, passive/active search and attack sonar suite.

Stage 5 IR achieves the UK Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) requirement for reduced through-life costs and the need for rapid capability insertions of new hardware, software functionality and new algorithms to meet the RN's changing mission requirements.

The upgrade also delivers an open architecture that allows a high degree of commonality with the future Astute and Vanguard-class replacement (Successor) submarines, and supports the MoD's vision for the evolution of a common sonar and combat system across the RN submarine flotilla.

S2076 Stage 5 is currently being deployed on the 'first-of-class' platform and this is scheduled to complete by the middle of the year. Work on the Stage 5 IR contract will start immediately with equipment procurement and manufacture, with the platform upgrades planned for later this year through to late 2011.

Alec Grant, Head of Future Combat Systems at BAE Systems Submarine Solutions, says: 'Thales UK is a key partner within the joint MoD / industry team developing the Submarine Common Combat System, and the roll out of Sonar 2076 Stage 5 represents a critical stage in achieving a common cross-flotilla solution.'

Victor Chavez, Deputy CEO Thales UK, says: 'This is a major milestone for Thales UK and confirmation that the solution we have developed in 2076 Stage 5 supports BAE Systems Submarine Solutions' intention to develop and deploy a common combat system across the flotilla for the MoD. We in Thales want to continue to play a major part in these developments and the Stage 5 IR contract is a significant step forward for us.'
- Ends -

About Thales and Thales UK
Thales is a global technology leader for the Aerospace, Space, Defence, Security and Transportation markets.

MIAMI, Fla. - Honda Marine announced that it will improve upon its award-winning lineup of fuel-injected four-stroke outboard engines with the new BF115. Introduced at the 2010 Miami International Boat Show, the 115-horsepower (hp) outboard will be available to boaters this summer.

The BF115 is derived from the inline 4-cylinder 2.4 liter DOHC engine platform used in Honda's award-winning and popular Accord automobile. Due to this outstanding engine coupled with other advanced technologies, the BF115 is able to produce class-leading performance with unparalleled fuel efficiency and reliability. In addition, the new BF115 will feature design cues similar to its recent predecessors, the BF40 and BF50, BF75 and BF90 and 105 Jet, including the wing-form design of the cowling, a performance-oriented gear case, and a host of Honda-exclusive innovations.

In 2006, the company introduced its redesigned and best-in-class BF75 and BF90 EFI, and continued to build on its success in 2008 with the introduction of the 105 Jet, as well as the fuel-injected BF40 and BF50. Honda unveiled its new BF60, with many of the performance and efficiency hallmarks of the Honda 75 and 90 horsepower siblings, at last year's Miami Boat Show.

"Honda Marine continues to bring our customers new products that give them what they want: excellent fuel efficiency and performance," said Scott Conner, assistant vice president, Honda Marine. "The new BF115 is the latest in our mid-range offerings that delivers upon our commitment to our marketplace and the industry. It illustrates that Honda Marine is committed to the development of lightweight, high-performance, fuel efficient four-stroke outboards."

The new BF115 delivers the fuel efficiency and quiet operation of Honda's legendary four-stroke outboard engine technology combined with light weight and powerful acceleration. Honda's exclusive Boosted Low Speed Torque (BLAST) system and a high-performance gear case combine for a strong hole shot, while Lean Burn Control provides best-in-class fuel efficiency at cruise. Specifically, the BF115 reduces fuel consumption by 20 percent over the previous model.

The new BF115 is lighter than its predecessor. A lightweight engine cover and a highly rigid air intake manifold mated with a chain driven camshaft help to reduce total engine weight.

The BF115 also features Honda's all-new high-performance gear case. A longer anti-ventilation plate helps trap water flowing to the propeller to minimize cavitation, while a streamlined front and enlarged bullet reduce drag for enhanced acceleration and fuel efficiency.

A front-splash plate reduces spray from the hull bottom, helping to maintain a dry deck above. Important to most boaters, the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) on the new BF115 outputs signals that are compliant with NEMA 2000 standards. This design enhancement allows engine management information such as engine rpm, fuel consumption, cruising distance and alerts to be displayed on a variety of NMEA 2000-compatible onboard electronic display devices that are increasingly common and popular with customers.

Honda Marine pioneered four-stroke engine technology, setting a new benchmark for fuel efficiency, quiet operation, and low emissions. Honda's outboards share the same unparalleled durability, quality, and reliability of its legendary automobiles. With models ranging from 2 to 225 horsepower, Honda Marine's full line of current production models meets rigorous California Air Resources Board (CARB) 3-Star standards, ensuring their availability and regulatory compliance in all 50 states.

Editor's Note:

Honda Marine, a division of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., markets a complete range of outboard marine engines. Its comprehensive product line is powered exclusively by four-stroke engines.

Information for media regarding Honda Marine products is available at www.hondanews.com.

Consumer information, including model overviews and updates, video clips, and complete specifications regarding Honda products, is available at www.honda.com.

For product inquiries and dealer locations, please visit www.hondamarine.com.

— WebWireID112567 —

Automotive

Machinery

Maritime / Marine

Retail

Sports

WebWire® Copyright © 2010 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
