Provillus is the powerful blend of natural herbs which promotes the natural hair regrowth and prevents hairs from falling. Poor diet, stress, atmospheric pollution and many other factors damage hairs and make them fall. Scientifically health experts found that it is a hormone called DHT which is responsible for hair loss. The increased amount of DHT hormone let the hairs fall from scalp. It grows at the scalp and blocks the food and water going to the hairs. This practice shrinks hair follicles making them weaker and weaker until they die and fall from scalp.

Click Here to Visit Official Website of Provillus

Provillus hair regrowth spray is a liquid which is to be applied directly on the hair scalp. It cleans the scalp, prepares it for hair regrowth. It stimulates the hair regrowth, grows hairs thick, strong, healthy and makes them look shiny and beautiful. 'Health experts have tested the product clinically and verified it as safe and beneficial formula for hairs. It prevents hairs damage, hair loss, nourishes overall hair health and let you give the confidence of beautiful hairs. All the customers have reported a significant reduction in hair loss, thick, strong and beautiful hairs in a very short time period with no negative side effects.'

The two step formula consists of a hair regrowth supplement and a hair regrowth spray to promote a healthy, shiny and all time beautiful hairs. The hair regrowth supplement consists of pills which are to be consumed orally. Hair regrowth supplement blocks DHT formation over the scalp, prevents hairs from falling by providing hairs with extra nutrients and making them healthy and strong enough to fight against DHT hormone.

If you are one of the people suffering a hair loss, give a try to Provillus and say no to hair loss.

Author and Pastor Dr. Max High of Fort Wayne, IN has been notified by Xulon Press that his latest book 'Seven Principles of Healthy Churches: New Testament principles to transform, renew and revitalize your church today' has won the 2013 Christian Choice Book Awards in the ministry category.

The unique style of the book, (both historical fiction and practical ministry textbook) sets it apart from most religious books. The book is based on exegesis of Acts 2:42-46 and follows Giannis and Dimitra, a fictional first century couple as they begin their Christian faith journey under the mentorship of the Apostle Paul. The book then applies seven New Testament principles to the American church today as it sets a standard for congregational health through an easy to read and practical narrative.

Readers take away a wealth of leading edge information they can immediately apply to their own church. Dr. High weaves personal illustrations and historic references together in an entertaining yet informative style that makes compelling reading.

Dr. Barry Davis says of the book, 'If you want a healthy church, follow God's instructions. For a detailed, entertaining, and informative roadmap concerning those instructions, read Seven Attributes of Healthy Churches.

According to C. Bowman: 'You will be amazed by the wisdom and simplicity of this book. This is a must read for anyone who is starting a church, Pastoring a church, or anyone wanting to know how their church stacks up. It is very simple to read, yet it contains the essentials for any healthy church. I have been born-again since 2003 and I found this book to be enjoyable and biblical to a T!'

According to Dr. High, Seven Attributes of Healthy Churches is the first in a planned series entitled 'The Healthy Church Series.' The book is available at Amazon.com in both printed form and as a Kindle digital book.

Dr. Max High is available for engagements. Contact him through www.healthychurch-soulutions.com or at drmaxhigh@gmail.com He resides in Fort Wayne, IN.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As millions of Americans prepare to enjoy the great outdoors this Memorial Day weekend, the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention wants to help consumers understand new labeling rules on sunscreen products. The National Council also has designated the Friday before Memorial Day, May 24, 2013, as 'Don't Fry Day' to raise awareness of the importance of practicing sun-safe behaviors, including using sunscreen for maximum protection.

The National Council urges consumers to choose sunscreen products that offer Broad Spectrum protection, and have an SPF of 30 or higher. Under the new labeling, recently announced by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA), sunscreens that protect against both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays can be labeled 'Broad Spectrum.' Both UVA and UVB radiation contribute to the sun's damaging effects, which include sunburn, skin cancer, and premature skin aging.

Sunscreen products that meet the criteria for being called Broad Spectrum, and have an SPF of 15 or higher, may state that they reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging, when used as directed.

Products that have SPF values between 2 and 14 may be labeled as Broad Spectrum if they protect against both UVA and UVB, but only products that are labeled both as Broad Spectrum with SPF values of 15 or higher can make the claim about lowering risk of skin cancer.

Any product that is not Broad Spectrum, or that is Broad Spectrum but has an SPF between 2 to 14, will be required to have a warning stating that the product has not been shown to help prevent skin cancer or early skin aging.

'Despite the fact that skin cancer is largely preventable, it remains by far the most common type of cancer in the United States,' said Sandra Read, co-chair of the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention. 'The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention is encouraging everyone to understand the FDA's new sunscreen label regulations in order to protect themselves from the sun on 'Don't Fry Day' and every day.'

Sunscreen should be applied liberally, and should be reapplied after swimming or excessive sweating. In addition, water resistance claims on the front label must indicate whether the sunscreen remains effective for 40 minutes or 80 minutes while swimming or sweating, based on standard testing. Sunscreens that are not water resistant must include a direction instructing consumers to use a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.

There are 3.5 million cases of skin cancer in over 2 million people each year, which is more than new cases of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined. According to the American Cancer Society, melanoma incidence rates have been increasing for at least 30 years. From 2005 to 2009, incidence rates among whites increased by 2.8% per year.

While generous sunscreen usage is an important way to protect your skin from the sun, there are additional sun safety measures that can help prevent skin cancer on 'Don't Fry Day' and every day:

    Avoid sun burns, intentional tanning, and use of tanning beds;

Wear sun-protective clothing, a wide-brimmed hat, and UV-blocking sunglasses;

Seek the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM;

Use extra caution near water, snow, and sand;

Get vitamin D safely through food and supplements.

For more information on how to protect your self from skin cancer, visit the National Council's site at www.SkinCancerPrevention.org. The National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention is the united voice of more than 45 organizations, associations, and agencies dedicated to reducing skin cancer morbidity and mortality in the United States. Council members represent some of the nation's premier physicians, researchers, clinicians and advocates for melanoma and skin cancer prevention.

— WebWireID175156 —

Environment

Health Care / Hospitals

Lifestyle / Society

Supplementary Medicine / Nutrition

Youth / Children

WebWire® | More Feeds

Sao Paulo, Brazil – The e-book 'Leadership Diaries', a collection of real experiences on leading people, processes and yourself, will be free for download at Amazon from May 26 to 28.

How do we come to terms with the lack of leaders in a world where everyone discusses, preaches and encourages leadership? Something is wrong. That is the background of 'Leadership Diaries'. Whether organizing a birthday party, raising money for flood victims, inviting friends to a party or a soccer game on a Saturday morning, all of these activities require someone to play the leadership role. It seems like some people were born ready to lead while others were not. But everyone has the potential to lead. The question is how to unlock this potential. That is the subject of the new e-book, 'Leadership Diaries', from Brazilian cartoonist, writer and former global executive Luciano Pires, which explains the hypocrisy of today's world in a cheerful, humorous and provocative manner.
This book will help young people who are beginning their careers, as well as more experienced professionals, to understand how the professional universe works, based on the real experiences of an executive who led teams in a multinational corporation. And what's more: the book presents the point of view of a Brazilian, with a cultural background that is different from those of Europeans, Asians or North Americans.
Written in a straightforward and good-humored language, 'Leadership Diaries' surprises readers by presenting what should be obvious yet can no longer be seen, due to our busy agendas.

About the author

Luciano Pires draws on a rare collection of attributes to create a compelling work: he is a cartoonist and writer with 6 published books, most of them focused on developing a critical eye as a way to enhance the ability to make decisions and sound judgments. For 26 years, Luciano was a top executive at a multinational corporation, leading teams of professionals in Brazil and in other countries, and delving deeply into the corporate theatre. He is the irreverent and provocative producer and host of one of Brazil's foremost podcasts, Café Brasil. Luciano has become a prominent speaker who "walks the talk" transforming his calls for innovation into a reality.

'Leadership Diaries', written by Luciano Pires, can be downloaded for free at Amazon.com from May 26 to 28.

— WebWireID175145 —

Advertising / Marketing

Books

Education

Lifestyle / Society

Workforce Management / Human Resources

WebWire® | More Feeds

Young Children Who Miss Well-Child Visits are More Likely to be Hospitalized

SEATTLE — Young children who missed more than half of recommended well-child visits had up to twice the risk of hospitalization compared to children who attended most of their visits, according to a study published today in the American Journal of Managed Care. The study included more than 20,000 children enrolled at Group Health Cooperative.

Children with chronic conditions like asthma and heart disease were even more likely to be hospitalized when they missed visits, according to the study. In fact, children with chronic conditions who missed more than half of the recommended well-child visits had more than three times the risk of being hospitalized compared to children with chronic conditions who attended most of their visits.

'Well-child visits are important because this is where children receive preventive immunizations and develop a relationship with their provider,' says study lead author Jeffrey Tom, MD, MS, an assistant investigator with the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Hawaii. 'These visits allow providers to identify health problems early and help to manage those problems so the children are less likely to end up in the hospital.'

When he conducted the study, Dr. Tom was a senior fellow in the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics.

'Regular preventive care for children with special needs and chronic conditions is even more important, given the risk of possible complications for their conditions, often leading to hospitalizations,' added coauthor David C. Grossman, MD, MPH, a senior investigator at Group Health Research Institute in Seattle.

The study included 20,065 children who were enrolled in Group Health from 1999 to 2006. Researchers followed the children from birth until age 3.5 years or until their first hospital stay, whichever came first.

During the study period, Group Health recommended nine well-child visits between birth and 3.5 years. The visits start at three to five days and continue at 1, 2, 4, 6, 10 and 15 months, and at 2 and 3.5 years.

Most children in the study (76 percent) attended at least three-quarters of the recommended visits, for which Group Health required no copayment. The authors say the lack of copayment is an important incentive and likely one reason for such good adherence to visits among the study population.

Overall, 4 percent of children in the study — and 9 percent of children with chronic conditions — were hospitalized. The two most common reasons for hospitalization in both groups were pneumonia and asthma.

Children who missed more than half of their visits had 1.4 to 2.0 times the risk of hospitalization compared to those who attended most of their visits. Children with chronic conditions who missed more than half of their visits had 1.9 to 3.2 times the risk of hospitalization compared to those who attended most of their visits.

Authors caution that their findings might not apply to all health systems because the study was conducted in an integrated health care system where the majority of children attend most of their well-child visits and tend to have families with higher-than-average income and education. The authors were unable to adjust for income, education, race or ethnicity.

This study does not prove that missing well-child visits will increase the chance of hospitalization, although it does show an important association between these factors. The authors say one important reason for this link is that well-child visits allow for preventive care that keeps children from ending up in the hospital. An alternative explanation is that parents who miss well-child visits are also less likely to manage their children's illnesses and follow treatment regimens, which could result in higher rates of hospitalization.

Some prior studies have found an association between missing well-child visits and increased hospitalization, but others reported no link. The authors of this study conducted another study with similar findings in a fee-for-service medical setting in Hawaii. That study was published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (now JAMA Pediatrics) in November 2010.

Authors of the study include Jeffrey O. Tom, MD, MS, with the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Hawaii; Rita Mangione-Smith, MD, MPH, with the University of Washington and Seattle Children's Research Institute; David C. Grossman, MD, MPH, with Group Health Research Institute and the University of Washington in Seattle; Cam Solomon, PhD, with Seattle Children's Research Institute; and Chien-Wen Tseng, MD, MPH, with the University of Hawaii and Pacific Health Research and Education Institute in Hawaii.

This study was supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (grant T32HP10002-21), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — and by Group Health Cooperative and Group Health Research Institute.

New Zealand wineries return to China to present a showcase of premium wines in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou.

The annual showcase of 'What's New in New Zealand Wine' takes to the road across China from 23-29 May 2013 with wine fairs in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

The New Zealand Wine Fair 2013 China features more than 33 wineries pouring over 150 wines from the country's 10 leading wine growing regions, a reflection of strong growth in New Zealand wine exports to mainland China.

The initiative continues the momentum of the concerted New Zealand Wine High Impact Program, implemented in 2013 by national economic development agency New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) and national wine industry body, New Zealand Winegrowers (NZW).

"The number of wineries in these New Zealand Wine fairs demonstrates the importance of China as our 5th largest export market and allows the opportunity to taste premium, sustainable wines covering our key varieties and regions." says Chris Yorke, New Zealand Winegrowers' Global Marketing Director.

The Fair agenda includes trade and consumer tastings. The invite-only masterclasses to be presented by the wine experts will be highlights of the event.

"Building recognition of the New Zealand wine brand and keeping up the attention of the influencers in the Chinese wine industry will be a key factor in the success of this project,'' says Mike Arand, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise's Trade Commissioner to Shanghai.

In a major coup for New Zealand wine, Chinese wine expert Fongyee Walker will host three masterclasses titled 'New Wave Sauvignon Blanc and the North Island's Great Reds'. Respected New Zealand winemaker John Hancock will join Fongyee to host the Beijing session and Villa Maria's Charlotte Read will host the masterclass in Guangzhou. These sessions will showcase the exciting development of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and the premium quality of Bordeaux Blends by region.

With a focus on benchmark quality and regional character and complexity, the tastings will provide trade and mass audience the opportunity to discover some of the exceptional wines for themselves. For event details visit http://www.nzwine.com/events/

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are pleased to announce nine projects that have been selected as part of the second Grand Challenges Explorations initiative. Each project will develop an innovative communication approach to changing the global conversation about the impact of development aid.

The creators of the nine projects will each be awarded up to US$100,000 to work on their communications idea and will be mentored by a Cannes Chimera panel made up of representatives of each of the 2012 Cannes Lions Grand Prix winners. The Cannes Chimera will work with the grantees to help develop and hone their initiatives. Grantees are then invited to apply for up to US$ 1 million of additional funding from the Gates Foundation to implement their ideas.

The nine projects from agency and non-profit organisations from around the world are:

    • BeHere-BeThere Project by Serviceplan, Hamburg, Germany: Using location-based network applications in collaboration with local retail partners, Serviceplan will connect consumers to charity projects in the developing world to raise awareness of development issues and trigger donations from retail locations to specific projects.

    • Cause Generation: a Platform to Define a Generation's Cause by OgilvyEarth, San Francisco, USA: OgilvyEarth will develop and launch an online platform for university student teams to use to campaign for a single global development cause for their generation, convince their peers to support that cause, and execute an awareness raising project around the winning cause.

    • Hactivating Development Aid by Coxswain Social Investment Plus, Tunis, Tunisia: The organization will develop an online crowdsourcing program that engages young people around the world and enables them to learn about global development challenges through first-person narratives as well as provide solutions to real-life challenges identified by their peers.

    • HMKD by Leo Burnett, Chicago, USA: Leo Burnett will develop a plan to create a working stock ticker on the New York Stock Exchange that will track the daily return on investment from development aid to raise awareness that investments in humankind are working.

    • House Parties: Experiential Marketing for Global Aid by Plan International, Washington, USA: Plan International USA will test a proven marketing model - the House Party - as an engagement tool to build support among the public for international development programs.

    • Global 360 by Media Trust, London, UK: Building on its existing programming, Media Trust will produce the first television, online and mobile channel run by young people, which will create and distribute stories about global development.

    • Mobile-izing the United Voices of Aid Recipients by Environics Trust, Ghaziabad, India: Environics Trust will use an Interactive Voice Response system to collect 10,000 personal narratives about the impact of aid programs in rural India, will disseminate them online and through social media, and then measure how the information changes perceptions among a youth audience.

    • RADIO8 by Digital Kitchen, Seattle, USA: Digital Kitchen will create a worldwide radio channel for eight-year-old children to provide knowledge, insights and perspectives on the impact of aid through first-person stories, music, and cultural exchanges, with a goal of promoting connections between the developing and the developed world.

    • Smart Cities: An Interactive Multi-Media and Mapping Platform by Spatial Collective, Nairobi, Kenya: Spatial Collective will create an interactive community platform, accessible via SMS, for citizens to present local development challenges and suggest possible solutions, with a goal of promoting better communication between citizens, service providers, local governments, and members of the international community and improving living conditions for people in developing countries.

"Once again we are seeing some truly inspirational and creative ideas being brought to the table for the better good of the world. I'm particularly proud to see that the global communications industry is rising to the challenge and increasingly engaging with this unique and fantastic initiative," comments Philip Thomas, CEO of Lions Festivals. 'Having had the privilege to see the first Cannes Chimera in action during the mentorship workshop in Seattle last year, I have no doubt that when these nine grantees convene in Seattle in October, they will be blown away by the experience of working first hand with the most skilled and passionate creative communicators in the business."

The creative challenge "Aid is Working. Tell the World" solicited communications ideas that can help change the global conversation about the impact of investments in foreign aid. Answering to a competitive creative brief for ideas in four specific submission categories: Mobile, Data, Young Audiences and The Progress of Development, the nine new projects were selected from entries submitted from around the world. They were chosen solely on merit - applicants' details are kept confidential - by a review panel comprised of experts from the first Cannes Chimera, winners of the 2011 Cannes Lions Grand Prix, and representatives from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These grants are awarded as part of the foundation's Grand Challenges Explorations initiative which fosters innovations that can help overcome the most persistent challenges in global health and development.

"Innovative communications are going to be an important part of solving the world's biggest challenges," said Tom Scott, director of Global Brand & Innovation at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. "We're thrilled to be partnering with Cannes Lions, which enables us to collaborate directly with the global creative community to find ways to build awareness and support for critical global development problems."

Some of the nine grantees will also be honoured on stage during the four awards ceremonies that take place during the Cannes Lions festival week 16-22 June.

A new global creative challenge will be announced on Monday 17 June at the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity during the Cannes Chimera Initiative seminar. An all-star cast, including Chimera Members and previous grantees, will take to the stage to discuss the Cannes Chimera Initiative and launch the next challenge.

The Cannes Chimera Initiative, in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, exists to harness great ideas for the good of the world. It is open to anyone from any discipline, from students to communications executives, and from any organisation. Applications are submitted online to Cannes Lions, and initial grants of $100,000 are awarded for the finalists. Successful projects have the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to US$1 million to implement their idea.

Oklahoma residents should inspect for tornado damage once it is safe to do so. Residents should be very careful when returning home following the tornadoes that struck earlier this week.

Allstate recommends homeowners carefully inspect their homes for possible signs of tornado damage, and that residents pay particular attention to the following areas:

    • Look for wall cracks in spots where there were no cracks before. Cracks of a quarter inch or more are signs walls may have shifted or settled. Look carefully around windows and doors because these are typically the weakest spots in a home's construction.
• Make sure to closely check rooms not regularly used.
• Look outside for physically visible, new cracks in the home's foundation. Look inside for changes in the levelness of floors. Changes in the level of the floor could be signs of a lift in the home's foundation.
• Inspect plumbing. Look closely around the water heater and/or water softener for signs of water leaks that did not exist before. Flush all toilets, turn on all of the water faucets, and check connecting pipes for any leaking water.
• In the days or weeks after a tornado, check walls and ceilings for water stains or yellowing that did not exist before. It could indicate damage on the roof.
• Carefully inspect the outside gutters. Damaged gutters could cause water damage inside the home long after the actual gutter damage occurs.

Regarding damage from the tornado in Oklahoma, Allstate policyholders who suspect their home might have sustained damage during the recent storm can contact Allstate through The Good Hands Network by dialing 1-800-54-STORM or visiting Allstate.com.

As part of Allstate's efforts to help policyholders who suffered damage from the tornado, the company has deployed Mobile Claims Centers and Catastrophe Response Teams to the area to assist policyholders.

If after inspection, your home shows signs of tornado damage and needs repair, Allstate strongly encourages homeowners to be careful when hiring contractors. Following large natural disasters, contractor fraud is more common.

NEW YORK, NY (May 23, 2013) - What do motorcycles, costume parties, and sacred Hindu temples all have in common? If you answered 'Biker Entourage', then you're probably one of a growing number of NYC-area bikers who've joined this 'paradigm shift in motorcycling.'

A self-proclaimed 'gonzo motorcycle think-tank with an outside-the-box ethos,' BEnt is inviting 'motocycletterasts' to take part in its Gods of India Ride on Sunday, June 16th.

'We started the season with Erotic Ride, where we made stops at the Museum of Sex and then Shag, a female-owned sex shop in Williamsburg,' says Biker Entourage founder, Deme Spy. 'One of us did win a vibrator, but the highlight was definitely Chemistry,' a celebrated erotic party. The theme was 'Easy Rider', and BEnt bikers gave joyrides around Williamsburg, as well as offering their bikes as props for the party.

So, after riding bacchanal urges, what does BEnt have in store for its next production? 'A journey through space and Self,' according to their invite, 'as a quest for spiritual meaning inevitably follows the growth-release of hedonism.' Their Sunday ride will include an intensive morning introduction to Zen meditation, and a twisty run to a sacred Hindu Temple upstate (replete with fasting). 'Then we ride like Lord Vishnu on his dragon-chariot back into the city, to a ridiculous, themed party by Carmel Productions' called, what else? Gods of India.

Invites and mailing list signups for rides can be found on their website, bikerentourage.com. 'We're just getting started, and we got plans,' smiles Deme with a touch of menace. 'Let's just say we're developing an augmented reality adventure for bikers… that'll rock their world.'

— WebWireID175117 —

Automotive

Entertainment

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Lifestyle / Society

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® | More Feeds

• Trott, King, Rowsell & Barker confirmed for pro criterium race on 3 August
• Stunning route through heart of London with Start/Finish on The Mall
• Programme also features races for top youths and handcyclists

Great Britain's world beating quartet of double Olympic champion Laura Trott, Olympic team pursuit gold medallists Dani King and Joanna Rowsell, and 2013 world champion Elinor Barker, riding for the Wiggle Honda team, headline the field for the first Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix on Saturday 3 August.

The route for the series of three criterium races is a fast flat 1.3 mile loop around St James's Park that starts and finishes on The Mall (download routemap here: http://vlstatic.com/l-and-p/assets/media/Prudential-RideLondon-Grand-Prix-Route-2013.pdf). The riders will race towards Buckingham Palace, through three tight turns onto Birdcage Walk and then take a 90 degree left hand turn into Horse Guards. The final left turn at the end of Horse Guards brings them back onto The Mall.

'This is a fantastic course,' said Prudential RideLondon ambassador Laura Trott. 'It's the perfect way to celebrate one year on from the Olympic Games in an amazing weekend of cycling in London and Surrey. I can't wait to be part of it. Bring it on!'

A key event for London, Prudential RideLondon not only provides a legacy for Team GB athletes from the Games but also delivers on the capital's promise for our sports-captivated nation to stay inspired following London 2012. The Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix is designed to be London's next big thing and inspire the future generation of world-class cyclists, as well as providing spectators with the opportunity to witness our 2012 heroes in action a year on from the Games.

Keeping up the momentum for world-class sport in 2012, the latest addition to London's bidding programme is the 2016 Track Cycling World Championships for the Olympic Velodrome, which itself will form part of the Lee Valley VeloPark and provide a further legacy from the Games as the world's best cycling facility for pros and enthusiasts alike, covering all four disciplines of track, road, mountain and bmx.
Notes to Editors

Partnership of UK Museums Saves Constable's Salisbury Cathedral Masterpiece

One of the greatest masterpieces of British art, Constable's Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows 1831, has been secured for the British public through major grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund (£15.8 million), the Art Fund (£1million), a very substantial donation from The Manton Foundation, and Tate Members.

The acquisition is part of a ground-breaking new partnership, called Aspire, between five national and regional galleries: Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales; the National Galleries of Scotland; Colchester and Ipswich Museums; Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum; and Tate Britain. The partnership will enable the work, owned by Tate, to go on almost constant view in partner venues across the UK. From today it will go on view in the Constable room at Tate Britain until the end of the year before being shown at the five national and regional galleries participating in the programme.

The work has been acquired for the special price of £23.1 million with tax concessions, equivalent to an open market sale of £40 million. The acquisition has been made possible through the most generous collaboration of the children of the late Lord Ashton of Hyde and purchased through the London fine art agents Robert Holden Ltd. The painting had previously been on view at The National Gallery on long-term loan since 1983.

Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows is one of a series of monumental 'six-footer' canvases painted by the artist. This was the scale he reserved for his finest compositions, the paintings he wished to make a great impact in the crowded, competitive hang of the RoyalAcademy exhibitions. This work is the most visually spectacular of all the 'six footers', the most loaded in meaning and the one of which he was most proud. Constable called it 'The Great Salisbury' and wrote 'I am told I got it to look better than anything I have yet done'.

Nicholas Serota, Director, Tate said: 'Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows is one of the great masterpieces of British art. I am extremely grateful to the owners who have worked with us while we have raised the funds to ensure the painting remains in the UK. I would also like to thank the National Gallery for their support and the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Manton Foundation, the Art Fund and Tate Members who have recognised the importance of this work and that it should enter the national collection. Through the innovative Aspire programme the work will now be widely accessible across Britain.'

Jenny Abramsky, Chair, Heritage Lottery Fund said: 'HLF is proud to be a major funder of this masterpiece. Our investment of over £15 million is substantial but reflects the fact that these moments – those that give us the chance to save such a precious and quintessentially British heritage icon – come along very rarely. It is unimaginable that this particular painting might have ended up anywhere other than in a UK public collection. Constable was truly a man of the people who believed that art was for everyone and not the select few and it is very fitting that the innovative approach of the Aspire project will ensure that many more people around the country will get to see and enjoy Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows than ever before. That's really something to celebrate.'

Sandra Niles of The Manton Foundation said: 'The Trustees of the Manton Foundation were unanimous in their support of this effort to secure this extraordinary painting for many generations of audiences to enjoy. We hope that our grant is a way of recognising the lifelong interest and philanthropy of my grandparents, Sir Edwin and Lady Manton.'

Stephen Deuchar, Director, the Art Fund, said: 'Constable's Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows is a British icon. Now, thanks to a funding partnership between the Art Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and The Manton Foundation, it is entering the nation's permanent collection and will be shown in many museums across the UK through an innovative sharing arrangement. It's a great pleasure to have helped Tate and its four partner museums make this happen.'

Adrian Green, Director, Salisbury and SouthWiltshireMuseum said: 'The Aspire partners are delighted that the funding has been secured to save Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows for the nation. The Aspire programme will ensure that the painting will reach as wide an audience as possible, particularly through a range of imaginative events at each of the partner venues. At SalisburyMuseum the opportunity to see the painting and then 'step out into the canvas' will be an unforgettable experience.'

The Aspire programme is a partnership between five UK institutions, all of which will organise special public programmes highlighting the painting. It will be seen in exhibitions and displays which include the partner venues' existing collections and reflect the individual context of each site. After the initial five year period all the partners will continue to have special access to the painting for their exhibitions, while ensuring that this extraordinary work is lent to other institutions so that it can be enjoyed by a wide public.

Each display will be complemented by an education programme which encourages audiences to learn more about this painting and the work of John Constable. The project will establish a national network for Constable Studies to promote exchange and create new opportunities for training and skills development with a particular focus on developing new audiences for heritage through traineeships and the provision of education materials for schools, teachers and families.

An image of the painting and colouring sheet, along with other related activities will be available online on Tate Kids (kids.tate.org.uk). They will allow children to explore the painting in closer detail.

Notes to Editor

Notes to Editors
Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows depicts Salisbury Cathedral under both a heavy cloud and a striking arched rainbow from across the River Avon. The scene has been interpreted as a metaphor for pressure felt by the Church of England from its diminished political importance. The painting was first exhibited at the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition in 1831 and later in a regional exhibition in Birmingham as directed by Constable, who wanted the work to be seen by as many people as possible.

The UK holds seven of the twelve large-scale works Constable exhibited, and five of the thirteen full-size sketches that he made for these. This work was one of two which were privately owned. There are three pairings of sketch and finished painting in Britain. Securing this work for the UK has now added a fourth pairing. The full-size sketch for Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows is held by the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.

The order of displays in the Aspire programme is as follows: National Museum Cardiff, 2014; Christchurch Mansion,Ipswich, Colchester & Ipswich Museums, 2015; Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum, 2016; National Galleries of Scotland, 2017; Tate Britain, 2018.

Sir Edwin Manton (1909 - 2005) was born in England and moved to New York in 1933. Sir Edwin was a collector of paintings by John Constable and his contemporaries, and a generous benefactor to the arts, the church and medicine. His collection, which is now at The Sterling and Francine Clark Institute in Williamstown, also includes works by Gainsborough, Rowlandson and Turner. He was knighted in 1994 for charitable services to the arts. Prior to this exceptional grant to the acquisition of Constable's Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows, the Manton Foundation most recently contributed the lead donation to the Tate Britain Millbank Project.

— WebWireID175083 —

Art / Graphics / Photography

Business Announcements

Education

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

WebWire® | More Feeds

BMW Guggenheim Lab Publishes New York and Mumbai Lab Editions of 100 Urban Trends: A Glossary of Urban Trends from the BMW Guggenheim Lab

100 Urban Trends from New York, Berlin, and Mumbai Labs to Be Explored in BMW Guggenheim Lab Exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York from October 11, 2013 to January 5, 2014

Related Blog Series Launches Today

NEW YORK, – Today the BMW Guggenheim Lab announced the publication of 100 Urban Trends: A Glossary of Ideas from the BMW Guggenheim Lab New York and 100 Urban Trends: A Glossary of Ideas from the BMW Guggenheim Lab Mumbai. Complementing the Berlin Lab trends published in November 2012, the New York and Mumbai editions round out a series of glossaries showcasing the most talked-about urban trends from the Lab's three global stops to date, and create a new resource for understanding the way people relate to and live in cities. All three glossaries, which have been written by Lab curator Maria Nicanor, curatorial assistants Amara Antilla and Stephanie Kwai, and the Lab's resident writer, Christine McLaren, can be accessed online in a dynamic interactive feature designed by Collective Assembly at 100urbantrends.org. The glossaries, designed by graphic designers Sulki & Min, are also available on the BMW Guggenheim Lab website.

The BMW Guggenheim Lab is designed to raise awareness and generate conversations about important urban challenges in cities around the world. The Lab launched in New York (August 3 – October 16, 2011) with a focus on the theme of Confronting Comfort; traveled to Berlin (June 15 – July 29, 2012), where the programming emphasized active citizen participation in shaping cities; and then opened at multiple sites in Mumbai (December 9, 2012 – January 20, 2013), where projects and programs explored perceptions of privacy and public space.

'These glossaries are meant to further the conversations started by the Lab and spark analyses of these three cities and comparisons of the respective urban environments,' stated Richard Armstrong, Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation. 'Integral to these glossaries is the concept of cities as hubs for ideas, and how the Lab has captured some of the prevailing thoughts citizens and experts alike have about their cities.'

The glossaries include trends such as the following, with details of Lab programs that relate to the trend and a list of related terms:

• 10,000 Honks: celebrity cricket player Sachin Tendulkar, who visited the Mumbai Lab, suggested a rule that would limit every car to 10,000 honks after the time of its purchase. The regulation would help control sound pollution in Mumbai's streets and fund urban noise-reduction projects, as drivers would need to purchase any additional honks from the government. (Mumbai)
• Glocalism: combining 'local' and 'global,' this term speaks to two forces at play in all neighborhoods. In a climate shaped by rapid globalization and multinational corporations, widespread sameness is evident in any cosmopolitan hub. Conversely, each city has its own local, vernacular traditions. Glocalism is the merging of these two seemingly opposing forces. (New York)
• Retrofitting Infrastructure: the reimagining of an existing piece of major organizational infrastructure (e.g., transportation, water, sewage, and electricity). More than half of the world's population now lives in cities. Although cities are more energy efficient than areas of suburban sprawl, they still face challenges to sustainable living—mainly due to the fact that the major infrastructure necessary to provide essential needs for residents and businesses has already been put in place. Rather than expending additional energy, resources, and funds on demolishing heavy infrastructure to improve city living, retrofitting infrastructure has become an alternative solution. (Mumbai)

Participatory City: 100 Urban Trends from the BMW Guggenheim Lab

Participatory City: 100 Urban Trends from the BMW Guggenheim Lab, opening at the Guggenheim Museum on October 11, 2013, will explore key experiences and discoveries from the New York, Berlin, and Mumbai Labs. The exhibition will document the most talked-about themes and ideas that emerged from the Lab in each city. Architects, academics, designers, artists and other invited guests from 50 cities around the world will submit drawings, sketches, short videos, or digital renderings that respond to and illustrate 50 of the 100 trends featured in the glossaries. The remaining 50 trends will be represented by examples from Lab programs and projects.

'The aim of the exhibition is to take the temperature of three particular cities during a specific period of time—New York, Berlin, and Mumbai between 2011 and 2013— and to understand the ideas that city experts and non-experts discussed for the present and future of cities,' said Lab curator Maria Nicanor. 'By looking at learnings from the cities the Lab has visited alongside new ideas from other global urban centers, we are able to gain a more comprehensive understanding of cities today.'

Blog Series

As part of this exploration, Lab | Log, the BMW Guggenheim Lab's blog, today launches a weekly article series that will focus and expand on the urban trends. Participating writers include Mason Currey, a former Metropolis editor and author of Daily Rituals: How Artists Work; Rosanna Flouty, New York Lab Programs Manager and Director of Education for Art21, Inc.; Sarah Goodyear, journalist and writer for Atlantic Cities; Alejandro de Castro Mazarro, Latin Lab Program Coordinator, and Adjunct Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, Columbia University; the Lab's resident writer, Christine McLaren; and journalist and New York Lab Team member Charles Montgomery.

The Guggenheim will announce details about the exhibition this summer.

TORONTO—The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) has appointed Jeff Dueck to the role of executive chef, effective June 15, 2013.

Dueck is currently executive sous chef of the AGO's food and beverage operations. He joined the Gallery in 2008 when its doors re-opened to the public after Transformation AGO. Dueck collaborated with current executive chef Anne Yarymowich to oversee the launch of FRANK Restaurant, the Baillie Court Event Centre, caféAGO and satellite cafes within the gallery.

With over 30 years of culinary experience, Dueck has worked at some of the finest restaurants in Toronto including Canoe, Bistro 990, Scaramouche and The Windsor Arms. His resume boasts an impressive event catering background, having executed gala openings for Luminato, Innovator's Ball, Tennis Canada, Toronto Jazz Festival and Toronto Film Festival. Born and raised in southern Ontario, Dueck is a graduate of George Brown College, where he is currently a faculty member.

'Having worked shoulder to shoulder with Jeff for the past five years, I am thrilled to name him as successor to the culinary legacy that we have co-authored,' said Yarymowich. 'He is a friend, a colleague, an exceptional culinarian and a stand-up guy. I know he will be amazing in this new role.'

'I'm delighted to take on this position at the Gallery along with the exciting new challenges it will offer,' said Dueck. 'I've learned a great deal from Anne Yarymowich, and FRANK will continue to showcase the fresh, innovative and well-crafted culinary offerings that Anne put so much love into. The Gallery's food outlets are growing to include pop-up stations for AGO First Thursdays, satellite operations like the popular café Galleria Italia, and exhibition-themed menus. We're really upping the ante on artful dining experiences.'

Yarymowich retires from her 17-year tenure as FRANK's executive chef on June 14, 2013. Her many achievements during that period include winning chef of the year in 2009 by the Ontario Hostelry Institution; being named number 3 in Toronto Life's 2009 list of the Top Ten new restaurants; and receiving the bronze medal at Gold Medal Plates in 2010.

ABOUT THE AGO
With a collection of more than 80,000 works of art, the Art Gallery of Ontario is among the most distinguished art museums in North America. From the vast body of Group of Seven and signature Canadian works to the African art gallery, from the cutting-edge contemporary art to Peter Paul Rubens' masterpiece The Massacre of The Innocents, the AGO offers an incredible art experience with each visit. In 2002 Ken Thomson's generous gift of 2,000 remarkable works of Canadian and European art inspired Transformation AGO, an innovative architectural expansion by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry that in 2008 resulted in one of the most critically acclaimed architectural achievements in North America. Highlights include Galleria Italia, a gleaming showcase of wood and glass running the length of an entire city block, and the often-photographed spiral staircase, beckoning visitors to explore. The AGO has an active membership program offering great value, and the AGO's Weston Family Learning Centre offers engaging art and creative programs for children, families, youth and adults. Visit ago.net to find out more about upcoming special exhibitions, to learn about eating and shopping at the AGO, to register for programs and to buy tickets or memberships.

March 16, 2013 – June 16, 2013: Revealing the Early Renaissance: Stories and Secrets in Florentine Art

Additional operating support is received from the City of Toronto, the Canada Council for the Arts and generous contributions from AGO members, donors and private-sector partners.

— WebWireID175081 —

Art / Graphics / Photography

Business Announcements

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Restaurants

WebWire® | More Feeds
