Here are six steps to ensure successful results when writing software manuals:

1. The most important step is to use a storyboard, which is a sequence of short, detailed descriptions combined with images. If there are any problems in the storyboarding process, they can be fixed here.

2. Write as if speaking to a ten year-old. This ensures more detailed descriptions, which is absolutely necessary.

3. Use plenty of illustrations, screen shots and icons, with highlighting and numbering (if necessary). Text is not enough.

4. Present all information in short sections, so the software manual resembles a slide show.

5. If the process is quite complex, consider using video. The advantage of video is the user can play it over and over again until they 'get it.'

6. Test, test, and test again. All it takes is one missed step to cause the entire process to fail. If a step is missed, add in the missing piece and test the process again. If necessary, get a colleague to test the software manual process. All too often, the human mind has a tendency to 'fill in the blanks.'

'A smart writer knows that you have to make content easy to understand. If you do, you'll create a great user experience and a happy customer, one who will be loyal to you over the course of time,' said Segal.

IDC Examines the Impact of the 3rd Platform on Software Business Models and the Building Customer Revolution

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The 3rd Platform, with cloud at its core, will serve as the primary growth driver of the information and communications technology (ICT) industry over the next decade, responsible for 75% of new growth as worldwide ICT spending moves from $3.7 trillion in 2013 to more than $5 trillion in 2020, according to International Data Corporation (IDC) research. The proliferation of 3rd Platform solutions – and new customer expectations – is rapidly disrupting software business models, changing them forever.

"The 3rd Platform is not just a technology revolution; it's also a customer revolution. As a result, expect the rise of new software business models that align more closely with business outcomes and customers' experiences," said Amy Konary, Research Vice President for Software Licensing, Provisioning, and Delivery. "Customers should expect to see models that enable access to and consumption of applications when and where they want. Pricing will scale up or down according to consumption or need, allowing customers to pay only for what they use."

Additional IDC analysis shows:

The 3rd Platform makes possible a broad proliferation of two important, value-generating overlays – big data analytics and social technologies.

Most net-new commercial applications – as much as 82%, according to IDC – are being built specifically for cloud delivery in 2013. By 2016, nearly $1 of every $6 spent on packaged software and $1 of every $5 spent on applications will be consumed via the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model.

Customers want access to positive outcomes, and subscription pricing has proven to be a better means of facilitating this access than the perpetual license model.

Start-ups aren't the only ones offering subscription license models – 16% of the top 100 software vendors have more than 50% of their revenue coming from subscription and virtually all software vendors are at various stages in a seminal transition in how they build, sell, and deliver their products as services hoping to generate more revenue and improve customer satisfaction.

"Disruption rarely, if ever, leads to wholesale replacement," cautions Konary. "IDC believes that while packaged software applications are being slowly re-platformed for virtualized use on converged systems in datacenters, they will be available for distributed client/server computing environments (the 2nd Platform), and they will be priced and licensed accordingly. These applications will just become less interesting than they once were, as software developers shift innovation to where the growth opportunity exists – the 3rd Platform."

The IDC report, The Coming of the 3rd Platform and What This Means for Software Business Models (IDC #240918) focuses on the rise of the 3rd Platform and the ways in which software business models will change as a result. Advice to customers on the pricing and licensing of software-based applications and services is provided.

NEW YORK – Facebook applications offer brands an opportunity to initiate campaigns that provide fans with rich, interactive experiences that go beyond simple Likes, Comments and Shares. Unmetric, the company that tells global brands how they stack up against competition on social media, releases its first-ever Facebook Brand Apps Report to reveal which companies are using Facebook apps most effectively to engage with fans and visitors to their page.

According to the report, companies in mobile technology are finding the greatest engagement on a sector-wide level, but Dove earns the crown for having the most successful brand Facebook app of all time with its Ad Makeover campaign. The Facebook Brand Apps Report pulled insights around the Facebook apps with the highest number of Monthly Active Users (MAU) from its database between March 17 and 23, 2013 to determine which companies have successfully implemented Facebook apps as engagement strategies.

Using advanced combination of algorithms and human computing, Unmetric mines data that is inaccessible from the Facebook Page API to determine the brands, sectors and specific Facebook apps finding the most traction among fans. The results of the Facebook Brand Apps Report were made possible by Unmetric's recently launched Facebook Apps Performance Platform, the first-ever Facebook app benchmarking solution that connects brand app data to brand Facebook Page data. Unmetric manually mapped branded Facebook apps and matched them to their respective brand pages of over 7,000 brands across the world to provide companies with sector-based insights and analytics around how their app campaigns stack up against the competition.

Dove's now-inactive Ad Makeover app is Facebook's all-time leading brand app in terms of overall usage rates, with a one-time MAU rate of 461,492. The personal care company used the Facebook app to further its goal of displacing feel-bad advertisements with positive messages. Dove found great success by building its app around Facebook's strengths as a social network, using its app to facilitate positive conversations between women around the world.

Windows' Windows 8 app comes in as Facebook's second most popular with 376,969 MAU. Microsoft uses the app to host Windows 8 contests, share user-generated videos and as a springboard to other experiences like its Windows 8 Cover Photo Creator. Lay's comes in third with its Lay's Do Us A Flavor app, which encouraged fans to invent the next great chip flavor and sparked a conversation between the Lay's and its fans.

In terms of the brands with the most Facebook apps, Lipton tops all with a total of 12, five active and seven inactive campaigns. Not far off are BMW, Coca-Cola, Dove and Maybank, all tied for second with 11 apps all time. All five brands use Facebook apps to as a framework for short-lived engagement campaigns, allowing them to experiment with different app types to determine what strategies work to truly engage with fans.

Overall, brands in mobile technology are finding the most traction with Facebook app campaigns. The sector sees an average app MAU rate of 5,712. The technology, personal care, media and home care sectors are also heavily focused on creating interactive Facebook app strategies to directly engage with their consumers.

Here's a detailed breakdown of the findings from Unmetric's Facebook Brand Apps Report, gathered from March 17 to 23, 2013:

Top Apps (Active + Inactive) by Monthly Average Users
1. The problem is that too many brands are flying blind, unsure of what apps will work for their audiences,' said Lux Narayan, CEO and co-founder of Unmetric. 'This is why there are 10 lifeless apps for every one that goes viral. With the Facebook App Performance Platform, brands now have access to a one-of-a-kind, competitive intelligence platform that helps them cut through the clutter and determine what apps really work.'

Unmetric's Facebook App Performance Platform focuses only on apps developed by brands, not the games and other apps that add noise to the data that a social media manager really needs. Now brands can keep an eye on the development efforts of their competitors, be alerted to new campaigns, and get an inside look at what resonates with fans. What's more, brand managers can understand how their campaigns stack up against not just their active competition, but against all of a sector's past Facebook applications, including those that have long been deactivated.

Unmetric provides definitive competitive intelligence on social media brand activity, through category benchmarks and cross-category analogues. Metrics, analyses and reports are delivered to brands and their agencies, online and on the fly, making sure that brands don't fly blind on social media. Unmetric combines machine learning and human intelligence to deliver insights that leading global brands depend upon. Brands are now able to answer the basic business question of 'Is my brand social enough?" on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest and more.

Methodology:
Unmetric compiled the data reported by sourcing its social media benchmarking platform. Insights on brand activity were gathered from March 17 to 23, 2013.

About Unmetric:
Unmetric is headquartered in New York City and works with category leading brands and innovative agencies across the world.

2013 benchmarks by Analysys Mason and Machina Research both place Telefónica as a global leader in the provision of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications services.

Telefónica Digital has been highlighted as a global leader in M2M Communication Service Provision (CSP) by two separate analyst houses. Analysys Mason, in their 2013 M2M Scorecard, placed Telefónica in the 'Industry Icons' category. While in their annual benchmarking study, Machina Research noted that 'Telefónica is the company that has done most during the last 12 months to strengthen its position in M2M'.

The analysts' research is a strong endorsement of the steps and investments Telefónica has made to bolster its global M2M capabilities. This includes taking a lead role in creating a multi-operator alliance which now includes eight leading mobile operator groups. It reflects the development of in-house platforms, such as its Smart M2M platform, as well as forming the right partnerships to operate in both the horizontal connectivity and vertical value added services markets.

Analysys Mason's 2013 M2M CSP Scorecard ranks providers in one of four categories: Industry Icons, Trailing Titans, Challenged Underdogs and Niche Notables. The Industry Icons category, in which Telefónica was placed, are those companies that dominate the M2M market, have the largest M2M business and the best capacity to co-ordinate their teams, network, partnerships, strategy and R&D. In the case of Telefónica, Analysys Mason highlighted its centralised structure and partnership philosophy*.

In their 2013 M2M CSP Benchmarking Study, Machina Research compared six key areas: Pedigree, Platform, Place, Partnerships, Process and People. Based on ratings across each of these areas, Machina Research identified a clear top tier of four CSP global leaders, of which Telefónica was one. Machina particularly praised Telefónica for its excellent coverage of Latin America and good coverage in Europe, strategic alliances, strong R&D capabilities and multi-carrier IMSI swapping arrangements.

The two firms were not the only ones to highlight Telefónica's progress in the past year. In its annual M2M Roundup report, Current Analysis states that Telefonica has worked hard to develop solutions that go beyond connectivity sales. It is increasingly involved in value-added services and end-to-end integration, especially in e-health, financial services, and security, where it has dedicated practices. It has also developed end-to-end solutions in fleet management, asset tracking, point of sale, usage-based insurance, 'smart taxis,' consumer electronics devices with multiple payment models, and a smart meter-reading platform for utilities.

'All three reports reflect the strong momentum we have in our M2M business,' said Carlos Morales, Director of M2M and Cloud at Telefónica Digital. 'They are also a great endorsement of our approach to this market, combining our excellent R&D capabilities with the right alliances and partnerships to meet the needs of a wide variety of customers.'

Commenting on Machina's findings, the author Matt Hatton said, 'Telefonica has every reason to be very proud this year. It has had a great year in M2M. The lead role it played in the multi-operator alliance, strategic arrangements with the likes of Telit and Masternaut, and a move up the value chain into products such as usage-based insurance all helped to persuade us that Telefonica deserved a place as one of the top tier of global M2M CSPs.'

Steve Hilton at Analysys Mason said, 'we ranked Telefónica as an Industry Icon having created a strong set of partnerships and having a fairly high level of commitment from these partners. We also believe the creation of Telefónica Digital has given it the right organisational structure with a dedicated M2M services team.'

Kathryn Weldon at Current Analysis notes that Telefonica has'shown innovation and focus, with many end-to-end solutions and integration services capabilities that are key to the growth of the market'.

• User experience of Wi-Fi moves beyond "best effort" through seamless integration with mobile networks
• Ericsson's industry-first, real-time traffic steering dynamically optimizes operator network resources
• New, high-performance indoor Wi-Fi, cloud controller options and integrated mobile broadband management strengthen Ericsson's heterogeneous networks differentiation

A smooth and seamless integration of Wi-Fi access is an increasingly important part of any mobile broadband service. Most smartphone users have experienced the frustration of being automatically connected to a Wi-Fi network only to face a noticeably slower connection speed.

To ensure users always get the best connection, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today announces its 3GPP compliant Wi-Fi network access, control and management solutions. These enable mobile operators to easily incorporate Wi-Fi in their heterogeneous network strategy, while delivering a consistently high-performance user experience, even in high traffic areas. Incorporating Wi-Fi is a key focus of tier-one mobile operators.

Daryl Schoolar, Principal Analyst, Network Infrastructure at Ovum, said: "Ericsson has clearly differentiated its carrier Wi-Fi solution through tighter integration with mobile operator's 3GPP access, control and network management. This approach should yield a better end-user experience by preventing some of Wi-Fi's well-known bad habits from being imposed upon users. At the same time, operators should welcome the tight integration of Wi-Fi and mobile, as exemplified by Ericsson's solution, thanks to the benefits derived from improving network resource optimization and ease in implementing and delivering Wi-Fi service offerings."

Key to the user experience is an Ericsson industry-first feature that automatically selects the best connection: real-time traffic steering. Ericsson's real-time traffic steering is a software upgrade that constantly assesses key performance indicators in both the mobile 3GPP network and the Wi-Fi network before dynamically and seamlessly shifting the consumer's smartphone connection between networks. This ensures the best user experience and optimizes network resources. Real-time traffic steering is a network-driven feature requiring no user intervention or additional device software. Ericsson also now supports access selection, a self-optimizing network (SON) feature enabling load-balancing between Wi-Fi and 3GPP networks to optimize the average user experience.

Thomas Noren, Vice President and Head of Product Area Radio, Ericsson, says: "Heterogeneous network strategies among leading mobile operators are focused on delivering a great mobile broadband experience to their customers, wherever they are. By coordinating licensed small cells with the macro cell, as we announced earlier this year, and intelligently integrating Wi-Fi and 3GPP throughout the network, we're providing operators with the most effective way to deliver consistently high performance consumer connections."

With indoor areas increasingly prone to mobile network congestion, Ericsson has also developed the first 802.11ac access point designed to enable mobile operators to deliver supplemental small cell or standalone Wi-Fi coverage indoors. The 802.11ac standard is common on tablets and increasingly prevalent on smartphones.

Two new cloud-controller options, both featuring 3GPP-standard interfaces to the mobile core, make it easier and more cost-efficient for operators to add Wi-Fi to their existing mobile services. The Ericsson Evo Controller now features a Wi-Fi controller blade, the WIC 8030. A new standalone controller, the WIC 8100, supports up to 10,000 access points and 500,000 concurrent subscribers, allowing operators to consolidate multiple Wi-Fi networks from a centralized location in a cost-efficient way.

Ericsson is also introducing integrated management of Wi-Fi and 3GPP networks on a common platform, simplifying operations and reducing network costs.

These new Wi-Fi 3GPP integration products and features provide complementary and incremental benefits to emerging industry standard features that Ericsson supports, including: Access Network Discovery and Selection Function (ANDSF), IP session mobility (also referred to as IP address preservation) and Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint(TM) (based on the Wi-Fi Alliance Hotspot 2.0 Specification). Ericsson also offers Wi-Fi 3GPP integration solutions to optimize the user experience for operators targeting residential Wi-Fi coverage. At MWC 2013, Ericsson announced a new Wi-Fi Gateway application on the Smart Services Router (SSR) which also supports integration of Wi-Fi networks with mobile broadband infrastructure.

Round Rock, Texas

Dell today announced it will enable Microsoft Windows Server Hyper-V as a viable hypervisor choice for the OpenStack cloud platform. This development, which is the first instance of a leading technology vendor enabling Windows Server Hyper-V hypervisor on OpenStack for private clouds, will give customers additional flexibility and choice to run OpenStack workloads within their existing Windows Server environments.

Dell will enable key features of the Windows Server 2012 virtualization platform for OpenStack, including network virtualization, policy-based isolation, Quality of Service (QoS) and multi-tenancy. Additionally, Dell is working with other OpenStack members for the optimization of OpenStack components including OpenStack Compute for Hyper-V, OpenStack Block Storage for Windows, and Dell Crowbar provisioning. Dell is targeting availability of initial functionality in an upcoming release of the OpenStack project.

'Dell has been an active sponsor of OpenStack for almost three years,' said Forrest Norrod, general manager, Dell Server Solutions. 'This project from Dell will help the OpenStack community gain additional value from investments in Windows Server 2012, with opportunity to further explore OpenStack-based solutions and workloads within existing environments.'

Dell and Microsoft have a longstanding relationship and this effort is in addition to Dell's current support for native Windows Server 2012 and Hyper-V. Microsoft is working with Dell to provide support to enable interoperability. Dell will also work to have System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager, federated with OpenStack Image Manager, to provide full functionality. The concept of federating System Center Virtual Machine Manager with OpenStack Image Manager is to minimize synchronization issues to OpenStack customers running a hybrid environment with Integration to customers using Window Server 2012 Hyper-V in this environment.

Dell has been part of the OpenStack community since its announcement in 2010 and offers a packaged OpenStack solution today, the Dell OpenStack-Powered Cloud Solution, along with a number of joint solutions with partners. Dell also holds two seats on the OpenStack Board of Directors.

As part of Dell's broader cloud strategy, Dell has been a pioneer in working with customers to design and build private clouds through its industry-leading Server, Storage and Networking infrastructure products in addition to its recently unveiled Active Systems portfolio.

About Openstack
OpenStack is a cloud operating system that controls large pools of compute, storage, and networking resources throughout a datacenter, all managed through a dashboard that gives administrators control while empowering their users to provision resources through a web interface.

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., and ZURICH, Switzerland - VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (NASDAQ: VDSI), (www.vasco.com ), a leading software security company specializing in authentication products and services, today announced its acquisition of Cronto, of Cambridge (UK), a provider of secure visual transaction authentication solutions for online banking (www.cronto.com ). VASCO acquired all of the stock of Cronto in exchange for an initial cash consideration of Euro 15 million and contingent cash consideration in the form of an earn-out of up to a maximum of Euro 2 million (combined, approximately $21.9 million using the exchange rate of 1.29).

The acquisition was financed from VASCO's existing cash balances. The acquisition is expected to be dilutive in 2013, due in large part to the amortization of purchased intangible assets. The acquisition is expected to be accretive in 2014.

Cronto was founded in 2005 as a University of Cambridge spin-out and is the market leader in the field of secure visual transaction authentication and signature solutions for online banking applications. The CrontoSign solution (also known as photoTAN) has been chosen to secure transactions of customers of leading German and Swiss banks such as Commerzbank AG and Raiffeisen Switzerland.

Cronto's patented CrontoSign technology is a simple, user friendly and effective way to withstand even very sophisticated attacks by Trojan malware, targeting online banking services. CrontoSign protects against such attacks as it allows the bank to establish a secure optical communication channel with the client. Account holders can simply 'scan' a CrontoSign image displayed on their bank's website and verify the details of the payment on a trusted display. They can choose between the CrontoSign mobile application or a dedicated CrontoSign hardware device.

VASCO will add the patented CrontoSign products to its offerings for the global banking market.
In a later phase, VASCO anticipates that Cronto's products will be integrated into MYDIGIPASS.COM, VASCO's strong authentication platform to secure the consumers' online applications/accounts.

VASCO expects that Cronto will contribute greatly to VASCO's future innovation efforts, due to its knowledge and expertise in advanced statistical data analysis and machine learning algorithms that underpins high speed and reliability of image based transactions and due to its close ties with the University of Cambridge.

'The acquisition of Cronto is a strong example of VASCO investing in its future growth,' states T. Kendall Hunt, VASCO's Chairman and CEO. 'Through our make-or-buy strategy for new technologies, we will keep scanning the market for suitable companies to join VASCO. Today, we would like to welcome Cronto's management and staff into the VASCO family.'

'Our objectives are to reinforce our leadership position in the banking authentication market and to become a successful business-to-consumer authentication services provider. The acquisition of Cronto is a significant step forward in helping us achieve both objectives,' says Jan Valcke, VASCO's President and COO. 'Cronto adds important innovative authentication technology to VASCO's technology portfolio, traditionally a point of attention for a market driven company like VASCO.'

'CrontoSign helps to bring trust in the online environment and to protect against Man-in-the-Browser and social engineering attacks. It is also highly accepted by the end users due to the simplicity of its operations, delivering the secure 'What you see is what you sign (WYSIWYS)' experience at one touch of a button.' said Igor Drokov, CEO and co-founder of Cronto. 'Joining forces with VASCO will allow us to leverage their leading position in the global authentication & security market bringing this and future products to new customers and new applications worldwide.'

Dr. Elena Punskaya, Cronto's co-founder and CTO added: 'The combination of the experience and R&D capacity will allow Cronto and VASCO to continue to identify new opportunities and implement the market vision, taking advantage of Cronto's position in Cambridge, UK – an undisputed centre in the global innovation landscape.'

About VASCO
VASCO is a leading supplier of strong authentication and e-signature solutions and services specializing in Internet Security applications and transactions. VASCO has positioned itself as global software company for Internet Security serving a customer base of approximately 10,000 companies in more than 100 countries, including approximately 1,700 international financial institutions. VASCO's prime markets are the financial sector, enterprise security, e-commerce and e-government.

Forward Looking Statements:
This press release contains forward-looking statements within the meaning of Section 21E of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Section 27A of the Securities Act of 1933. Such forward-looking statements are subject to certain risks, uncertainties and assumptions and include, among other things, our expectations regarding the DigiNotar bankruptcy process and our ability to recover related amounts held in escrow, as well as the prospects of, and developments and business strategies for VASCO and our operations, including the development and marketing of certain new products and the anticipated future growth in certain markets in which we currently market and sell our products or anticipate selling and marketing our products in the future. Factors that could cause actual results to differ materially from those contemplated above include, among others, unanticipated costs associated with DigiNotar's bankruptcy or potential claims that may arise in connection with the hacking incidents at DigiNotar. Additional risks, uncertainties and other factors have been described in greater detail in our Annual Report on Form 10-K for the year ended December 31, 2012 and include, but are not limited to, (a) risks of general market conditions, including currency fluctuations and the uncertainties resulting from turmoil in world economic and financial markets, (b) risks inherent to the computer and network security industry, including rapidly changing technology, evolving industry standards, increasingly sophisticated hacking attempts, increasing numbers of patent infringement claims, changes in customer requirements, price competitive bidding, and changing government regulations, and (c) risks specific to VASCO, including, demand for our products and services, competition from more established firms and others, pressures on price levels and our historical dependence on relatively few products, certain suppliers and certain key customers.

Nevada City, Calif. – Telestream®, the leading provider of digital media tools and workflow solutions, today announced the release of Wirecast® 4.3 live streaming production software. This free update adds a new live thumbnail feature for real-time monitoring of all live sources. Wirecast 4.3 also adds a countdown clock for managing recorded video within a broadcast, as well as new integration with Teradek for more flexible live streaming options.

'We are thrilled with the release of Wirecast 4.3, which adds even more sophisticated capabilities for streaming multi-camera live events,' said Filippa Hasselstrom, Director of Desktop Product Marketing at Telestream. 'The new features in 4.3 enable anyone, from video novice to professional, to easily and cost-effectively produce more complicated live streamed productions, incorporating multiple remote and local live sources, as well as recorded video.'

The new live thumbnail feature in Wirecast 4.3 enables real-time monitoring of all live source shots in the shot window. This allows users to see exactly what's happening on each live input at any point in time, making the process of switching between multiple live cameras faster and more manageable.

Wirecast 4.3 now displays a countdown clock whenever an imported video clip is playing, showing the time remaining before the video clip ends. This enables users more precise information to prepare for upcoming switches.

The addition of an innovative new plugin, developed by Teradek for Wirecast Pro enables flexible and economical live streaming options for easier capture of remote sources and more scalable publishing of local sources.

This plugin enables the Teradek Bond (bonded 3G/4G uplink) or the Teradek Cube (via Internet connection) to capture and send live video to Teradek's Sputnik server software running in the cloud or on a server -- even from private IP addresses, bypassing firewall restrictions. Wirecast Pro easily pulls in the live remote sources from Sputnik; effectively enabling users to easily connect any remote video source on any network to a Wirecast system located anywhere.

The integration with Teradek Cube also supports UDP Multicasting, providing a one-to-many distribution solution without bogging down the network. This is ideal for live events where multiple parties want to tap into one video source for multiple distributions to their own channels.

Wirecast is the only cross-platform, all-in-one live streaming production software that enables capture, live production, and encoding of live streams for broadcast to multiple servers and platforms simultaneously. Wirecast is ideal for streaming or recording live internet shows, broadcasting breaking news and sports, streaming live concerts, transmitting church services, corporate meetings, lectures and more.

Wirecast is being demonstrated at Streaming Media East booth 101 in New York City on May 21-22, 2013. More information and a free trial are available at www.telestream.net/wirecast/.

Corning Launches ONE™ Wireless Platform, Unifies Wi-Fi and Cellular Connectivity

CORNING – Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today unveiled the first all-optical, converged in-building wireless solution to satisfy the increasing demand from enterprises, hotels, convention centers, and arenas for high-speed, high-capacity wireless hubs with virtually unlimited bandwidth.

Built on a high-performance optical backbone, the Corning ONE™ Wireless Platform is designed to handle core cellular technologies and enable multiple applications, including wireless LAN, public safety and location-based services. In addition, Corning ONE Wireless Platform offers Wi-Fi support through its built-in Gigabit Ethernet and Power over Ethernet capability.

Corning ONE Wireless Platform leverages fiber-to-the-edge technology to deliver more bandwidth, more operators, more services, and more applications via fiber links to an integrated, modular single-input, single-output/multiple-input, multiple-output (SISO/MIMO) antenna. The platform's remote antenna units offer upgradable expansion modules for MIMO in a single antenna, allowing for future additions of active spectrum.

With the proliferation of smartphones and other devices, current networks cannot keep pace with the demand. The need exists for a new generation of easily installed, reliable and environmentally sensitive fiber optic networking technology that can meet the demands of today's users and anticipate those of the evolving mobile era.

'The wireless needs of the modern organization – be they a large enterprise, an educational institution, or a hotel and convention center – are changing faster than traditional technology approaches can manage,' said Mike O'Day, vice president, Wireless Networks with Corning. 'The ONE Wireless Platform combines all of these distinct connectivity needs into a single, unified infrastructure. The platform not only meets the demands of today, but also includes a modular design that provides the scalability required to support future services and applications.'

Station Casinos, a premier gaming, hotel, and entertainment company operating in and around the Las Vegas area, turned to Corning and its new ONE Wireless Platform to provide the best possible wireless service to staff and guests.

As the owner and operator of nine major hotel/casinos, including premier venues like Red Rock Resort and Green Valley Ranch Resort, Stations' technicians understand the challenge of providing mass-demand cellular and Wi-Fi coverage. But they needed more. CIO Abe Hong called on Corning and the distribution channel, Anixter, for a leg up in the hyper-competitive gaming and hospitality market.

"The Corning ONE™ Wireless Platform offers virtually unlimited bandwidth on which to deliver cellular and Wi-Fi right to the access point.' Hong said. 'The converged, modular, and all-optical infrastructure will give us the capabilities we need today with the flexibility to expand in the future. Moreover, my team saw significant savings on equipment, space, and cabling when we extended our Wi-Fi upgrade over the platform. We are excited to be rolling out this new platform to Red Rock and other properties to provide our guests and staff unparalleled wireless services.'

With the launch of the Corning ONE Wireless Platform, Corning's distributed antenna system portfolio expands beyond traditional DAS, supporting nearly every connectivity need from lower power, cost-effective deployments inherent in small office buildings to the massive bandwidth and coverage needs of public venues such as convention centers and stadiums. The Corning ONE Wireless Platform meets the demands of today and the future by providing optical bandwidth to the edge of the network.

Visit Corning's exhibit (booth #2455) at CTIA 2013™ to learn more about the Corning ONE Wireless Platform and the complete portfolio of flexible wireless solutions designed to address the ever-growing demand for wireless coverage and capacity.

ARMONK, N.Y. - IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced new software to help organizations extend crucial business applications running on System z mainframes to web, cloud and mobile environments. The software will enable companies to significantly reduce operating costs while helping businesses seamlessly and efficiently extend services for support of modern infrastructures.

Today, nearly 15 percent of all new enterprise application functionality is written in COBOL. The programming language also powers many everyday services such as ATM transactions, check processing, travel booking and insurance claims. With more than 200 billion lines of COBOL code being used across industries such as banking, insurance, retail and human resources, it is crucial for businesses to have the appropriate framework to improve performance, modernize key applications and increase productivity.

IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS, enables developers to deliver significant performance improvements in their business critical applications. For example, applications using the new compiler have shown performance increases of 10 to 20 percent.

'COBOL powers many of the critical systems people rely on everyday,' said Kevin Stoodley, Rational chief technology officer and IBM Fellow. 'With this new software, IBM is helping companies reduce operating costs and processing time associated with these applications while delivering new capabilities to take advantage of cloud, Web and mobile devices.

The new software helps companies deliver innovative solutions to their customers and reduce costs by:

· Providing support for Java 7, new UTF-8 built-ins, debugging enhancements, and support for unbounded tables and groups.

· Supporting a new level of z/OS System Management Facilities (SMF) tracking, which allows users who implement sub-capacity tracking to reduce their administrative overhead.

· Improving control over XML documents with the z/OS XML parser, allowing parsing workload to be off loaded to specialty engines to reduce operating costs.
