National Contest Gets Parents and Kids Talking About Online Safety

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today the winners of its Norton Cyber Safe Challenge, a national contest spotlighting online safety. The $20,000 Grand Prize was awarded to Signal Hill Elementary in Voorhees, N.J. for securing the highest number of parents who agreed to take the Challenge and registered for Norton's free online safety service, OnlineFamily.Norton.

More than 500 schools across the country competed in the Norton Cyber Safe Challenge, which began on October 1, to coincide with National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and ended on November 15. The Challenge encouraged parents to protect their kids from Internet dangers by signing up for OnlineFamily.Norton, a unique online family safety solution that fosters dialogue between parents and kids about their activities on the Internet.

Second and third place prizes of $10,000 and $5,000 were presented to the Academy for Science and Design in Merrimack, N.H. and the Academy Elementary in Westminster, Colo. for registering the highest percentage of parents relative to school size.

With everything from games to virtual worlds to homework assignments all online, kids are spending more time navigating the Internet and many parents are struggling to keep up. In fact, according to the 2009 Norton Online Living Report, almost half of online parents in the U.S. (47%) have reprimanded their child for doing something online they don't approve of.

'Parents need to take the necessary steps to protect their children from online threats,' said Marian Merritt, Norton's Internet Safety Advocate. 'We are proud of the parents at Signal Hill Elementary for making the effort to protect their kids online and help their school at the same time. We hope these schools are an inspiration to other parents.'

'All of this started with my efforts to protect my daughter form Internet dangers. I found OnlineFamily.Norton was exactly what I needed so I started telling other parents. Now, most of the children at our school are protected as well,' said Kim Stroemel, president of the Signal Hill Elementary Parent Faculty Association. 'As if that isn't enough, we'll now be able to give our children a new playground with the prize money. The kids will benefit both online and offline.'

OnlineFamily.Norton is a free product that parents can sign up for at http://onlinefamily.norton.com.

LSI Engenio 7900 HPC storage system combines reliable, high-speed data accessibility with high-capacity drive enclosures for maximum storage density

SC09, PORTLAND, Ore., LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that Météo France, the French national weather forecasting agency, has upgraded the performance and efficiency of its supercomputers by implementing an SGI® InfiniteStorage 4600 storage solution based on the LSITM Engenio® 7900 HPC storage system.

Météo France collects and stores extraordinarily large volumes of meteorological data about Earth's oceans, atmosphere and snow cover, which are then processed by a range of supercomputing applications including weather, marine and pollution forecasting. Météo France needed a new storage solution that could handle both existing data volumes and support data growth of 15 percent per year. The storage solution also had to enable daily data transfers of more than 16 terabytes between disk and tape and allow users to quickly browse through nearly ten million small files.

"The faster the supercomputer is able to write results, the more time and money we save," said Alain Beuraud, head of HPC and Storage Department at Météo France. "We needed reliable, high performance storage that could handle the enormous data volumes while also providing us with the flexibility to store less active or older data on cheaper media."

The SGI InfiniteStorage 4600 solution, based on the LSI Engenio 7900 HPC system technology, currently contains more than 400 terabytes of data and enables data transfer rates of up to 4 GB/s. To meet Météo France's annual data growth rates, the system offers initial capacity of up to one petabyte through a combination of Fibre Channel and high-capacity SATA drive enclosures.

The system's high-density LSI Engenio DE6900 SATA drive enclosure can house 60 3.5-inch SATA drives in a 4U space. The enclosure allows Météo France to more efficiently utilize its limited IT space, enabling a 480TB system to reside within a standard 19-inch rack. The high density offered by the DE6900 enclosure can reduce power consumption by more than 30 percent and floor space by more than 65 percent.

"LSI Engenio storage systems are trusted by leading OEMs and end users to deliver the performance and reliability required by the world's most demanding applications," said Steve Hochberg, senior director, worldwide HPC segment, LSI. "The combination of the low-cost, high-density SATA drive enclosure with the 7900 HPC storage system provides Météo France with exceptional price-performance, high scalability and significant cost savings through reduced power consumption and floor space."

The Engenio 7900 HPC storage system is architected for complex and high-bandwidth application environments that store and utilize vast amounts of data. The system combines industry-leading performance with advanced availability and reliability features designed to provide continuous high-speed data accessibility and protection across a wide range of HPC environments. Together, the 7900 HPC system and DE6900 enclosures enable users to implement a tiered storage solution by using both high-performance Fibre Channel drives and low-cost, high-capacity SATA drives.

The LSI Engenio 7900 HPC storage system with the DE6900 drive enclosure is available today through select OEM partners, including SGI. More information on the 7900 system is available at www.lsi.com/7900hpc.

About LSI

LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) is a leading provider of innovative silicon, systems and software technologies that enable products which seamlessly bring people, information and digital content together.
Consumer Business organizations should refocus security efforts to better respond to threats: Deloitte study

New York, Many consumer business organizations are not focusing on the right areas to best respond to threats, according to the inaugural Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (DTT) 2009 global Consumer Business security study, "Security can't be discounted", released today. Infrastructure, security governance, insider threats, and budgets are among the areas that need to be re-examined in light of the current information security threat environment, the study reveals.

The DTT Consumer Business study is based on discussions with information technology executives and information officers of global consumer business organizations, and includes perspectives and commentary from Deloitte member firm subject matter experts.

'Consumer business organizations are the 'front lines' when it comes to customer information because of the amount of personal and financial data with which they are entrusted,' says Adel Melek, DTT Global Security, Privacy & Resiliency Leader. 'Our study found that the industry needs to re-focus its information security efforts to best respond to increasingly sophisticated and innovative threats.'

The DTT study reveals that, in many areas, consumer business organizations are simply not focusing on the right areas to best respond to the threats that face them:

    * Many organizations still consider information security primarily a technology infrastructure issue. Fifty one percent of respondents identify their top security initiative for 2009 as security infrastructure improvement.
* Respondents are placing a less prominent focus on security governance – 53 percent of organizations are operating without an approved security governance structure, despite the fact that security governance helps to ensure that proper security controls are in place.
* Managing insider threats receives a low ranking among top security initiatives for 2009 – only 10 percent of organizations interviewed identify it as their top priority, despite respondents acknowledging that people, including third parties, are their organizations' weakest link.

Additional findings include:

    * Business continuity and disaster recovery have been neglected in the past but are getting more attention. Only 9 percent of responding organizations have an enterprise-wide business continuity plan that has been documented and approved for all critical functions. But this is not a state that respondents are satisfied with, since disaster recovery is the second most-mentioned security initiative for 2009.
* Consumer business organizations have a 'last one to adopt' approach when it comes to security technology. When asked which category best describes their organization's adoption of security technology, 52 percent of respondents state that they are 'late majority', meaning that they are content to use technology that is 'proven'. However, old hardware and out-of-date technology may put customer data at risk.

Methodology

The 2009 Consumer Business global security study reports on the outcome of focused discussions between Deloitte member firm Security, Privacy & Resiliency Services professionals and information technology executives of top global consumer business organizations. Discussions with representatives of these organizations were designed to identify, record, and present the state of the practice of information security in the consumer business industry with a particular emphasis on identifying levels of perceived risks, the types of risks with which consumer business organizations are concerned, and the resources being used to mitigate these risks. To fulfill this objective, senior members of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's Security, Privacy & Resiliency Group designed a questionnaire that probed various aspects of strategic and operational areas of security and privacy. Responses of participants were subsequently analyzed and consolidated and are presented in both qualitative and quantitative formats.
About Deloitte

Deloitte refers to one or more of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, a Swiss Verein, and its network of member firms, each of which is a legally separate and independent entity. Please see www.deloitte.com/about for a detailed description of the legal structure of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and its member firms.

Deloitte provides audit, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services to public and private clients spanning multiple industries. With a globally connected network of member firms in more than140 countries, Deloitte brings world-class capabilities and deep local expertise to help clients succeed wherever they operate. Deloitte's approximately 169,000 professionals are committed to becoming the standard of excellence.

— WebWireID107980 —

Advertising / Marketing

Computer Networks

High Tech Security

Internet Technology

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

NEUBIBERG, GERMANY AND CAMBRIDGE, UK - Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) and ARM (LSE: ARM /Nasdaq: ARMH) announced today a long-term strategic collaboration in the field of security controllers (MCU) for chip card and security applications. Based on the agreement, Infineon will receive an ARMv6M and ARMv7M architecture license. With its own specialized ARM® architecture-compliant CPU cores, Infineon will address the current and future needs of the security markets in terms of hardware-based security, combined with the advantages of the industry's most widely licensed 32-bit CPU technology.

Infineon is the only ARM partner to have an ARM architecture license specifically for security applications. Under this agreement, Infineon is able to integrate its innovative security measures into the heart of the CPU core implementation, while maintaining compatibility with the standard ARM processor instruction set. This approach enables code reuse and access to the wide ARM development ecosystem. Infineon aims to have the first products in volume production by the second half of 2011, initially targeting the Multimedia SIM cards market.

Following an assessment of their clients' member screening procedures, JLT Benefit Solutions Ltd (JLT) established the distinct advantages of Tracesmart's Existence checks facility. JLT were one of the first companies to employ Existence Alert in conjunction with Tracesmart's tracing service and are able to quantify fully, the benefits of comprehensive screening and batch pension tracing.

Commenting on the service, Andrew Marson, Head of Administration Consulting, JLT said, "All JLT clients using this service are benefiting from the improvements it brings. A number have saved significant sums of money as a result. Our relationship with Tracesmart is well established."

Tracesmart Corporate provide a broad spectrum of data intelligence services to the financial sector, including a multi-tiered consumer tracing solution utilised by a growing number of FTSE 100 companies. Tracesmart is also one of a small number of companies to receive a weekly feed of current UK Death Registration Information (DRI) from the General Register Office, crucial data which is employed to enhance the mortality screening functions of its anti-fraud services.

Established as the preferred choice within the pension industry for conducting existence checks, Tracesmart's Existence service can boast the vast share of the relevant market. The process utilises DRI, historical death indexes and commercially aggregated mortality data to flag any deaths in the UK, whilst also confirming residency and identifying gone aways. This is carried out on a continual basis, permitting appropriate action to be taken to mitigate risk at the earliest possible moment.

Remarking on Existence and his company's performance within the pension sector, Tracesmart's Managing Director, Mike Trezise remarked, "Tracesmart's combined existence checks and tracing services are industry leading. We are the principal player in this market now because we essentially understand the needs of the sector. As JLT has confirmed, our existence service delivers significant advantages. The process appreciably benefits all concerned, except that is, the fraudster."

About Tracesmart

Established in 1999, Tracesmart Ltd is a leading provider of consumer intelligence services. It specialises in the provision of data cleansing, consumer tracing and identity verification. Prominent in the pensions, legal, financial and retail sectors, their fraud prevention and anti-money laundering solutions are employed by a growing legion of businesses ranging from SME to FTSE 100 companies. Recently, the company's management has embarked on a rapid growth strategy, doubling staff numbers and office accommodation at its Cardiff Bay headquarters in addition to opening its City of London office to satisfy existing and anticipated future demands for its products and services.

Mike Trezise Trezise is the founder and Managing Director of Tracesmart. With over 25 years tracing and fraud analysis experience, his unrivalled knowledge provides the company with a distinct competitive advantage.

— WebWireID107970 —

Banking / Financial Services

Business Announcements

Electronic / Internet Commerce

High Tech Security

Internet Technology

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

PALO ALTO, Calif., HP today introduced a solution for backing up and recovering the growing volume of information stored locally on notebook and desktop PCs, enabling businesses to increase employee productivity, lower technology costs, and reduce compliance and legal risks associated with data loss.

With HP Data Protector Notebook Extension, businesses can back up and recover data outside the corporate network, even while working remotely and offline.

According to industry experts, 25 percent of the workforce is currently mobile (1) and, for the first time, shipments of notebooks have overtaken desktops (Q3 2008).(2) In addition, employees are increasingly saving vital company information outside of corporate networks, with more than 4,000 business files stored on the average PC.(3)

Organizations can face dramatic business risks if this critical data is lost through hard-drive failures or accidental file deletions. The cost of data loss can be potentially more than $400,000 annually for an average-size business with 5,000 users.(4)

HP Data Protector Notebook Extension addresses these challenges by expanding backup policies so local data is always protected, even when a user is working offline. Data is instantly captured and backed up automatically each time a user changes, creates or receives a file. Data is then stored temporarily in a local repository pending transfer to the network data vault for full backup and restore capabilities.

Businesses can reduce technology costs and increase employee productivity with the solution's continuous file protection, which provides nonstop, transparent and automated protection for information created locally. With single-click recovery, users can recover their own files without initiating help desks calls, thereby minimizing the burden on IT resources.

Businesses also can maximize bandwidth efficiency and better ensure security of information through HP Data Protector Notebook Extension's deduplication, data encryption and compression techniques. The user's storage footprint is reduced by deduplication of multiple copies of data. All of the user's data is then stored encrypted and compressed and the expired versions are cleaned up.

'Our most dynamic, cutting-edge business data is often stored on our employees' PCs and laptops,' said John Ferguson, network systems specialist at Roswell Park Cancer Institute of Buffalo, N.Y., America's first cancer center. 'We're managing data that relates to life-threatening diseases, such as data that could lead to a cure for cancer –¬¬ we can't afford to risk not using HP Data Protector Notebook Extension.'

HP also introduced HP Backup and Recovery Fast Track Services, a suite of scalable service engagements that help ensure a successful implementation of HP Data Protector and HP Data Protector Notebook Extension, improving the productivity of technical staff while allowing them to focus on core tasks and business priorities.

'Going to work no longer means going to an office – it may mean going to a coffee shop, an airport or a home office,' said Jonathan Martin, vice president and general manager, Information Management Software, HP. 'HP Data Protector Notebook Extension gives customers the peace of mind that they can always recover their data, offline, anywhere and at anytime.'

More information is available at www.hp.com/go/dpne.

About HP

HP creates new possibilities for technology to have a meaningful impact on people, businesses, governments and society. The world's largest technology company, HP brings together a portfolio that spans printing, personal computing, software, services and IT infrastructure to solve customer problems.

Munich, Germany, Detecting system trouble early and fixing it without an on-site technician – the Common Remote Service Platform (CRSP) from Siemens makes it possible. To further improve this CRSP service, which uses a secure real-time data link between the customer's IT system environment and Siemens's service technicians, Siemens IT Solutions and Services has entered into a partnership with Microsoft and is one of the first service providers to offer software distribution via cloud computing on the basis of Microsoft's Windows Azure platform. The advantages for the customer are obvious: Cloud services save costs, while the Azure platform ensures high availability as well as a flexible and scalable system environment.

Quick troubleshooting is a standard part of today's service spectrum, but in times of tougher competition and rising cost pressures customers demand total support with contractually assured system availability. Global remote maintenance of systems and machines, also referred to as remote services, meets these requirements and delivers significant savings for investment and maintenance costs, because customers pay only for the services they actually use. One major challenge with regard to remote services is making the communication infrastructure for software distribution via the CSRP scalable and secure enough to prevent non-authorized access or data misuse. The Windows Azure platform from Microsoft provides the necessary functionalities. It features basic services such as system links, permanent data storage and high processing capacity which are available on a pay-per-use basis. What makes Siemens's CRSP special: It exploits the Microsoft platform in order to benefit from its cost savings and its expandable links to customer networks.

"Reducing their IT costs continues to be a major challenge for our customers. Cloud-based solutions in connection with the Common Remote Service Platform can play a significant role in meeting this objective," says Jürgen Müller, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Siemens IT Solutions and Services.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services is an internationally leading provider of IT solutions and services. It covers the entire IT service chain from a single source, from consulting to system integration, right through to the management of IT infrastructures. In addition, Siemens IT Solutions and Services extends the range of offerings of the other Siemens Sectors to include IT solutions. With its comprehensive know-how and industry-specific knowledge, Siemens IT Solutions and Services provides measurable added value for its customers. Siemens IT Solutions and Services employs more than 41,000 people and posts annual sales of about 5.3 billion euros, of which over 70 percent are generated outside of the Siemens Sectors.

Saab has signed a contract for the sale of two airborne surveillance systems to the United Arab Emirates. The contract is worth approximately 1.5 billion SEK.

The contract covers two Saab 340 AEW (Airborne Early Warning) systems, comprising of the Saab 340 aircraft equipped with the advanced Erieye radar system. The contract also includes ground equipment as well as logistics and support services.
A true multi-mission system

An Airborne Early Warning system is used to monitor a country's airspace, borders and territorial waters. Together with the associated ground equipment, the surveillance system provides a detailed situational picture that can be used in conjunction with, for example, border control and rescue operations.

"We've been conducting discussions with the UAE for several years concerning an airborne surveillance system," says Saab's CEO Åke Svensson. "This contract is an additional proof of our expertise and international competitiveness within the field of network-based solutions for defence and civil security."
Operational in several countries

Saab's Erieye surveillance system is a market success. The first Erieye surveillance system was delivered to the Swedish Air Force on a Saab 340 aircraft platform. The system also has been sold to Thailand with the Saab 340 as a platform, and this time the United Arab Emirates.

The surveillance system has also been installed on the Embraer-145 aircraft and is operational in Brazil, Mexico and Greece. The system will soon be delivered to Pakistan on Saab 2000 aircraft.

— WebWireID107884 —

Aerospace / Defense

Airlines / Aviation

Government

High Tech Security

Homeland Security

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

ICSA Labs Study Finds Majority of Security Products Do Not Perform as Intended

Analysis of 20 Years of Data Exposes Common Flaws Among Security Products

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Nearly 80 percent of security products fail to perform as intended when first tested and generally require two or more cycles of testing before achieving certification, according to a new ICSA Labs report. The "ICSA Labs Product Assurance Report" - a first-of-its-kind study co-authored by the Verizon Business Data Breach Investigations Report research team - details lessons gleaned from testing thousands of security products over 20 years.

The report found that the No. 1 reason why a product fails during initial testing is that it does not adequately perform as intended. Across seven product categories, core product functionality accounted for 78 percent of initial test failures -- for example, an anti-virus product failing to prevent infection or an IPS (intrusion prevention system) product failing to filter malicious traffic.

(NOTE: To download high-resolution charts supporting this study, as well as the ICSA Labs certification seal, visit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/verizonbusiness.)

The failure of a product to completely and accurately log data was the second most common reason security products do not perform as intended. Incomplete or inaccurate logging of who did what and when accounted for 58 percent of initial failures.

The report findings suggest that some vendors and enterprise users consider logging a nuisance and merely a "box to check." According to the report, logging is a particular challenge for firewalls. Almost every network firewall (97 percent) or Web application firewall (80 percent) tested experienced at least one logging problem.

The third most significant reason for product failure is the finding that 44 percent of security products had inherent security problems, including vulnerabilities that compromise the confidentiality or integrity of the system and random behavior that affects product availability.

Even though it can be a demanding process, certification with a trusted, established third party is critical to verifying product quality, states the report. Product categories studied were: anti-virus, network firewall, Web application firewall, network IPS, IPSec VPN, SSL VPN and custom testing.

"Our goal is to help vendors develop more secure products," said George Japak, managing director of ICSA Labs and a co-author of the report. "When a product fails, we encourage vendors to view that as an opportunity to improve the product before it goes to market. In addition to benefiting the security industry, this open exchange of information can greatly benefit enterprises by providing them more reliable and available information to make educated product purchasing and use decisions."

Only 4 percent of Products Pass First Round

The ICSA Labs testing and certification process is rigorous; only 4 percent of products tested attained certification during the first testing cycle. However, 82 percent of products resubmitted for testing eventually earn ICSA Labs certification. Once a vendor earns certification, products are required to undergo ongoing testing to maintain certification.

Japak said, "The question I ask vendors is: 'Who would you rather have find an issue in your product -- ICSA Labs in a safe testing environment or a criminal in the real world?'"

The study also identified several other issues with the security products tested including poor product documentation and problems involving patching -- a product's ability to accept updates correctly.

Vendors are urged to read the "ICSA Labs Product Assurance Report" in full, which contains aggregate data on problems and solutions identified through rigorous testing. In addition, the report contains common pitfalls to avoid, recurring deficiencies to be aware of, and, factors that contribute to testing success.

Recommendations for Enterprises

The report recommends steps companies should take before purchasing and using security products. Among the recommendations are:

    * Demand quality. The market typically prefers feature-rich products over performance. If end-users demand quality, vendors will supply it.
* Be suspicious of performance claims and numbers. Vet them. Question them. Be an educated, cautious buyer.
* Choose more established products over new. New products have more problems; often times the kinks have not been worked out yet. Choose more established products when possible. If a new product is required, make sure the product is certified.
* Choose simplicity over complexity.
* Use certified products! This substantially reduces risk by ensuring that products meet objective, publicly vetted criteria. When shopping for a product, place certification at the top of the list. When using a certified product, keep up with whether the certification is current. Encourage vendors to maintain the certification after end-of-life if the product is still in use.
* Prefer vendors that certify their products, and that participate in industry and ICSA Labs consortia and other standards bodies. Working with consortia and industry organizations is a positive indicator for product quality. Technology held to an industry standard improves both features and reliability.

The complete "ICSA Labs Product Assurance Report" is available at www.icsalabs.com/whitepaper/report, along with full product testing reports at http://www.icsalabs.com/products.

About ICSA Labs
ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon Business, offers vendor-neutral testing and certification of security products.

In order to secure IT operation for future outsourcing customers, Tieto has begun constructing a new state-of-the-art data centre in one of the storage caverns previously used by the landowner The Swedish Fortifications Agency. Work on the centre is set to be complete in April 2010, making it the most secure and environmentally friendly installation in Sweden. The investment is part of Tieto's objective of becoming a market leader within the operation and outsourcing of business- and society-critical information.

"There's currently nothing like it in Sweden. The server centre will deliver an incredibly high level of security and become a turnkey centre for large-scale operations. We will use and develop one of The Swedish Fortification's Agency's 20,000 m2 premises and build a modern, flexible data centre," says Mikael Jupiter, Head of IT Operations for Tieto Sweden.

All power supply equipment in the data centre is built within the walls of the cavern, which is a unique feature. This means that the centre's doors can be closed. It also means that the centre is better protected against external threats, e.g. fire.

In addition to the fact that the server centre will be the most secure in Sweden, it will also be environmentally friendly. New, energy efficient blade servers and free cooling, together with scalability, guarantee minimal environmental impact.

"The new server centre will provide a unique combination of security and green IT. But highlighting ecofriendliness and IT is nothing new for us. As early as 1978, Tieto was recycling energy from IT equipment to heat premises," says Jupiter.

"We're seeing increased market demand for services within outsourcing, capacity and infrastructure, and we will provide these services with significant focus on security, quality and green IT," he concludes.

Tieto is an IT service company providing IT, R&D and consulting services. With approximately 16 000 experts, we are among the leading IT service companies in Northern Europe and the global leader in selected segments. We specialize in areas where we have the deepest understanding of our customers' businesses and needs. Our superior customer centricity and Nordic expertise set us apart from our competitors.
www.tieto.com

— WebWireID107834 —

Business Announcements

Computer Networks

High Tech Security

Internet Technology

Telecommunications

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Transport Network Strategies Barcelona, Spain and Stockholm, Sweden - Transmode, a leading provider of optical networking solutions, today announced the availability of tunable XFP pluggable optics modules for both the TM-Series and TS-Series product families enabling greater flexibility and lower spare part holding costs for customers.

As the new 80-channel tunable DWDM 10G XFP modules have recently become available from component suppliers, Transmode has rapidly integrated these into both the TM-Series and TS-Series product families. These modules allow greater flexibility in planning, ordering, deployment and later network reconfiguration due to the ability of the modules to tune to any of the 80 DWDM wavelengths supported by the TM-Series or the 24 DWDM wavelengths supported by the TS-Series.

Additionally, these modules allow operators that hold inventory or spare part pools to keep a smaller number of modules as they no longer need to hold a large number of wavelength specific plug-in modules, therefore reducing cost.

Mohamad Ferej, Transmode's Vice President R&D commented, 'This rapid integration of tunable XFP technology into our portfolio reflects the good relationships that we have built up with our supplier partners over the years and Transmode's ability to respond quickly once a component technology reaches the right level of maturity and quality.'

'Transmode has been a long term supporter of pluggable optics and pushed hard for the initial Multi Source Agreement (MSA) standards to remove the need for wavelength specific versions of each type of line card. Our strong relationship with our suppliers has given us a head start over the competition in this important area of pluggable optics integration.'

Transmode's portfolio is an industry leader in terms of flexibility and pluggable optics integration with many industry firsts, including 2.5G CWDM/DWDM SFPs, 4G CWDM/DWDM SFPs, 10G CWDM/DWDM XFPs and recently 8G Fibre Channel XFPs for both CWDM and DWDM.

About Transmode

Transmode is a leading provider of optical networking solutions for transport of data, voice and video traffic, based on CWDM and DWDM technology (Coarse/Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing).

Transmode's unique Intelligent WDM (iWDM™) approach has lead to widespread deployment of over 10000 systems in a customer base consisting of more than 250 fixed and mobile network operators, service providers, large enterprises and public institutions across Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Transmode's comprehensive product portfolio and strong global organization enable our customers to grow the capacity and to improve service level of their regional, metro and metro access networks, on a cost-efficient basis without compromising on functionality.

For additional information about Transmode, please visit www.transmode.com

— WebWireID107832 —

Business Announcements

Computer Hardware

Computer Networks

Electronics

High Tech Security

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

The business sees this as a critical component of its plans to expand its unified communications and contact centre solutions footprint for Avaya unified communications solutions, including Avaya AuraTM. This commitment will be supported by additional dedicated resources to support delivery and operations for global customers.

This builds upon BT and Avaya's long-standing 10-year relationship which was recently cemented by BT signing up to the new Avaya Connect channel programme.

Neil Sutton, Vice President Global Portfolio, BT Global Services, said: 'This extended partnership with Avaya not only enables us to significantly increase our Avaya contact centre and unified communications (UC) support capability in all key global markets but importantly with the Avaya Connect accreditation we are ensuring we are continually improving the service and delivery we provide to our customers. This means that our multi national customers with contact centres and operations around the globe can come to BT for one end to end Avaya based solution. This will remove the complexity and improve speed to market for contact centre and UC solutions. BT Global Services is now one of the few organisations that can deliver this around the world.'

Mark Mitchell, Head of Service Providers, Avaya EMEA, said: 'Choosing Avaya Aura solutions and signing up to the new Avaya Connect programme is a winning combination for BT. Not only will the company be able to deliver a richer suite of communications capabilities to its customers much faster and easier than before, the accreditation programme will really help them engage with their customers, providing better choices to move their businesses forward.'

BT's Avaya Aura solutions programme will be available from March 2010 when existing and new customers will be able to benefit from the optimised capital investment that this programme will bring. The Avaya Connect accreditation programme will be globally operational on February 1, 2010 and will allow existing partners to transition into the new programme during the course of the year.

— WebWireID107830 —

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Computer Networks

High Tech Security

Internet Technology

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
