<p>Virgin Media, the UK&#39;s leading communications and entertainment company, has been unveiled as the newest partner of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.</p>

<p>The company will also further support the Games as Presenting Partner of Athletics, which will be most evident during competition.</p>

<p>The Games will take place in Glasgow from 23 July to 3 August 2014 and will feature 6,500 athletes and officials from across the Commonwealth. They will compete in the largest sporting and cultural event to happen in Scotland in a generation.</p>

<p>Over one million people are expected to attend 11 days of world class competition, with up to 15,000 volunteers showcasing the best the city has to offer.</p>

<p>Great Britain&#39;s world beating quartet of double Olympic champion Laura Trott, Olympic team pursuit gold medallists Dani King and Joanna Rowsell, and 2013 world champion Elinor Barker, riding for the Wiggle Honda team, headline the field for the first Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix on Saturday 3 August.</p>

<p>The route for the series of three criterium races is a fast flat 1.3 mile loop around St James&#39;s Park that starts and finishes on The Mall (download routemap here: <a href="http://vlstatic.com/l-and-p/assets/media/Prudential-RideLondon-Grand-Prix-Route-2013.pdf" target="_blank">http://vlstatic.com/l-and-p/assets/media/Prudential-RideLondon-Grand-Prix-Route-2013.pdf</a>). The riders will race towards Buckingham Palace, through three tight turns onto Birdcage Walk and then take a 90 degree left hand turn into Horse Guards. The final left turn at the end of Horse Guards brings them back onto The Mall.</p>

     <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>SAN FRANCISCO &#8211; (May 23, 2013) &#8211;Today <a href="http://www.telly.com" target="_blank"  >Telly</a> is releasing the results from a new study, which was conducted online in April by <a href="http://www.harrisinteractive.com" target="_blank"  >Harris Interactive</a> on their behalf among over 2,000 U.S. adults. The study reveals that 78 million American mobile device owners <strong>[1]</strong> (35%) watch video on their mobile device. Of these 78 million, 52 million mobile video watchers (67%) discover content from friends via social recommendations, versus 32 million American mobile video watchers (41%) who find videos on their mobile devices via search engines.<br /> <br />Of the 52 million mobile video watchers who rely on social recommendations to discover video, many cited multiple ways in which they are finding videos from people they know. 35 million say they discover videos from connections on social networks, while 28 million Americans site that they discover videos from email sent from friends and family, and 23 million find content to watch from texts/MMS.<br /> <br />This echoes a major shift, from search to social, in the way consumers discover and consume digital video content on their mobile devices verses desktop, which is also reflected in <a href="http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalmarketing/digital-marketing/social-media/video-and-social-go-together-like-comments-and-retweets/" target="_blank"  >Adobe&#39;s April 2013 study</a> <strong>[2]</strong>. Social recommendations are so powerful that 1 in 10 people who watch videos on their mobile device, or 12 million, say the only thing holding them back from watching more video on mobile is that they will only watch videos sent to them by friends. All of these findings indicate that consumers want a more social way to easily discover video on mobile. Telly&#39;s findings support <a href="http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalmarketing/digital-marketing/social-media/video-and-social-go-together-like-comments-and-retweets/" target="_blank"  >Adobe&#39;s April 2013 study</a> that stated, &#39;social engagement jumped from 42% to 70% in terms of how likely referrals on networks like Facebook were to prompt a video viewing completion.&#39; It&#39;s clear that social influence plays a strong role in video viewership on mobile.<br /> <br />&#39;We&#39;re experiencing a new dawn in digital video. Mobile users are looking for an easy, low effort way to quickly find great content while on the go. Social recommendations are a natural fit to quickly guide consumers to great content, especially in a mobile environment where it&#39;s difficult to search,&#39; said <a href="http://www.telly.com" target="_blank"  >Telly</a> CEO Mo Al Adham. &#39;We believe this means there&#39;s an enormous opportunity to create easier discovery technologies and services for mobile video.&#39;<br /> <br />When it comes to OS, the study shows that Android users are much more likely to consume mobile video than iOS users. Of mobile video watchers, 36% are on iOS, 46% are on Android, 12% on Windows and 3% on Blackberry <strong>[3]</strong>. In recent studies, this separation was much more dramatic. The results of Harris&#39;s study show a significantly higher percentage of mobile video watchers on Android when compared to a February 2013 report released by Ooyala <strong>[4]</strong> that stated iOS accounted for 67% of individuals watching video on mobile devices, while Android made up the remaining 33%.<br /> <br />79% of American mobile video watchers 18 and over say there are certain things holding them back from consuming more video on their mobile device. Remarkably, 4.8 million Americans don&#39;t know how to find other good videos on their mobile, which prevents them from watching more. Cell phone connections and data costs are also a major hurdle for video consumption. 20.4 million American adults would watch more mobile video if they weren&#39;t worried about seeing a spike in their bill from data overages. Another 20.4 million Americans would watch more mobile video if their connection were faster. However, according to this Cisco February 2013 study, <strong>[5]</strong> mobile connection speeds are doubling year over year in the USA.<br /> <br />Another interesting finding is that households with children, 107 million (48%), are more likely to watch mobile videos than households without children, 67 million (30%). Of mobile video watchers, 37% live in the South, 21% in the Midwest, 20% in the West and 22% in the Northeast. Mobile video is also more popular with younger demographics; the study found that US adults ages 18-44 are three times as likely to be a mobile video watcher than those over 45.<br /> <br /><strong>Survey Methodology: </strong>This survey was conducted online within the United States between from April 22-24, 2013 among 2,066 adults ages 18 and older (of whom 1,879 were identified as mobile device owners) &amp; April 29-May 1, 2013 among 2,071 ages 18 and older (of whom 1,877 were identified as mobile device owners), by Harris Interactive on behalf of Telly via its Quick Query omnibus product. Figures for age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, region and household income were weighted where necessary to bring them into line with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was used to adjust for respondents&#39; propensity to be online.  All sample surveys and polls, whether or not they use probability sampling, are subject to multiple sources of error which are most often not possible to quantify or estimate, including sampling error, coverage error, error associated with nonresponse, error associated with question wording and response options, and post-survey weighting and adjustments. Therefore, Harris Interactive avoids the words &#39;margin of error&#39; as they are misleading. All that can be calculated are different possible sampling errors with different probabilities for pure, unweighted, random samples with 100% response rates. These are only theoretical because no published polls come close to this ideal.</p>

<p>Titian&#39;s Diana and Callisto, acquired for the nation in 2012, will be the subject of an exciting new National Gallery venture. Visitors to arts festivals this summer can step inside a mobile cinema truck, sit under a star-studded canopy and watch a short film that approaches Titian&#39;s work from a 21st-century perspective. They can learn about the goddess Diana and the nymph Callisto, and discover how the painting remains a powerful source of inspiration for a wide range of people today &#8211; including poets, artists, schoolchildren and curators. </p>

<p>Three Titian paintings are reproduced on the side of the truck as if on a gallery wall, with the images in 3D frames. Supported by the Art Fund, the national fundraising charity for art, &#39;The Titian Experience&#39; truck will appear at Hay, Grassington, Buxton and Latitude festivals between May and July 2013. The project supports the National Gallery&#39;s aim to promote the understanding, knowledge and appreciation of Old Master paintings to as wide an audience as possible. </p>

Last year, in celebration of these acquisitions, &#39;Diana and Actaeon&#39; painting went on tour to a number of venues around England and this cinema truck is another accessible and enjoyable opportunity for festival goers to learn more about these major acquisitions for the Nation.&#34;</p>

<p>&#39;Diana and Callisto&#39; was acquired for the public in 2012 for &#163;45 million by the National Gallery, London, and National Galleries of Scotland. This acquisition was made possible with the generous charitable support of individuals and trusts, including the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), the Art Fund and the Monument Trust. &#39;Diana and Callisto&#39; and Diana and Actaeon were painted for King Philip II of Spain between 1556 and 1559 and belong to a group of large-scale mythologies inspired by the Roman poet Ovid&#39;s &#39;Metamorphoses&#39;. At the same time, Titian began another painting associated with this pair, The Death of Actaeon, also in the National Gallery. For some reason, Titian never sent this painting to the king and it remained in his studio unfinished at his death.</p>

<p>The Sanaa Circle, a friends group of the National Museum of African Art, will present a panel discussion in support of the museum in the Smithsonian&#39;s Ripley Center Pavilion, Friday, June 7, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; it is free and open to the public. The panelists are experts from the fields of beauty, art, culture and history who will discuss contemporary hair, health and beauty in reference to the heritage and history of Africa. The discussion will be moderated by Diana N&#39;Diaye, who is the principal investigator and curator of The Will to Adorn initiative at the Smithsonian&#39;s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The project is one of the three themes of the 2013 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and it looks at identity and how it is reflected in African American dress. N&#39;Diaye is also a jewelry and dress designer.</p>

<p>Johnnetta Betsch Cole, director of the National Museum of African Art, will begin the evening with opening remarks. A reception will follow with hair models featuring images of contemporary beauty and styles by natural hair stylist and cosmetologist Camille Robbins-Reed. The panelists will be available for additional conversation during the reception.</p>

<p>Panelists include:</p>

<p>    Dr. Monte Harris, a Sanaa committee member and internationally recognized plastic surgeon, lectures and leads discussions on the role of hair in an individual&#39;s perceptions of beauty and identity. As the leader of the Center for Aesthetic Modernism and Do Good H.A.I.R. Project, Harris provides comprehensive health guidance for women seeking to achieve personal beauty that aligns with their ancestral heritage.</p>

<p>    Karen Milbourne has been a curator at the National Museum of African Art since May 2008. Her expertise includes the arts and pageantry of western Zambia and contemporary African art. Since joining the museum, she has curated the exhibitions &#39;Artists in Dialogue: António Ole and Aimé Mpane&#39; (2009) and &#39;Artists in Dialogue 2: Sandile Zulu and Henrique Oliveira&#39; (2011).      <title>Partnership of UK Museums Saves Constable's Salisbury Cathedral Masterpiece</title>

     <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the greatest masterpieces of British art, Constable&#39;s Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows 1831, has been secured for the British public through major grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund (&#163;15.8 million), the Art Fund (&#163;1million), a very substantial donation from The Manton Foundation, and Tate Members.</p>

<p>The acquisition is part of a ground-breaking new partnership, called Aspire, between five national and regional galleries: Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales; the National Galleries of Scotland; Colchester and Ipswich Museums; Salisbury and South Wiltshire Museum; and Tate Britain. The partnership will enable the work, owned by Tate, to go on almost constant view in partner venues across the UK. From today it will go on view in the Constable room at Tate Britain until the end of the year before being shown at the five national and regional galleries participating in the programme.</p>

<p>The work has been acquired for the special price of &#163;23.1 million with tax concessions, equivalent to an open market sale of &#163;40 million. The acquisition has been made possible through the most generous collaboration of the children of the late Lord Ashton of Hyde and purchased through the London fine art agents Robert Holden Ltd. The painting had previously been on view at The National Gallery on long-term loan since 1983.</p>

<p>Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows is one of a series of monumental &#39;six-footer&#39; canvases painted by the artist. This was the scale he reserved for his finest compositions, the paintings he wished to make a great impact in the crowded, competitive hang of the RoyalAcademy exhibitions. This work is the most visually spectacular of all the &#39;six footers&#39;, the most loaded in meaning and the one of which he was most proud. Constable called it &#39;The Great Salisbury&#39; and wrote &#39;I am told I got it to look better than anything I have yet done&#39;. </p>

<p>The Aspire programme is a partnership between five UK institutions, all of which will organise special public programmes highlighting the painting. It will be seen in exhibitions and displays which include the partner venues&#39; existing collections and reflect the individual context of each site. After the initial five year period all the partners will continue to have special access to the painting for their exhibitions, while ensuring that this extraordinary work is lent to other institutions so that it can be enjoyed by a wide public.</p>

<p>Each display will be complemented by an education programme which encourages audiences to learn more about this painting and the work of John Constable. The project will establish a national network for Constable Studies to promote exchange and create new opportunities for training and skills development with a particular focus on developing new audiences for heritage through traineeships and the provision of education materials for schools, teachers and families.</p>

<p>An image of the painting and colouring sheet, along with other related activities will be available online on Tate Kids (kids.tate.org.uk). They will allow children to explore the painting in closer detail.</p>

<p>Notes to Editors<br />Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows depicts Salisbury Cathedral under both a heavy cloud and a striking arched rainbow from across the River Avon. The scene has been interpreted as a metaphor for pressure felt by the Church of England from its diminished political importance. The painting was first exhibited at the Royal Academy&#39;s Summer Exhibition in 1831 and later in a regional exhibition in Birmingham as directed by Constable, who wanted the work to be seen by as many people as possible.</p>

<p><br /> <br />The UK holds seven of the twelve large-scale works Constable exhibited, and five of the thirteen full-size sketches that he made for these. This work was one of two which were privately owned. There are three pairings of sketch and finished painting in Britain. Securing this work for the UK has now added a fourth pairing. <p>Dueck is currently executive sous chef of the AGO&#39;s food and beverage operations. He joined the Gallery in 2008 when its doors re-opened to the public after Transformation AGO. Dueck collaborated with current executive chef Anne Yarymowich to oversee the launch of FRANK Restaurant, the Baillie Court Event Centre, caféAGO and satellite cafes within the gallery.</p>

<p>With over 30 years of culinary experience, Dueck has worked at some of the finest restaurants in Toronto including Canoe, Bistro 990, Scaramouche and The Windsor Arms. His resume boasts an impressive event catering background, having executed gala openings for Luminato, Innovator&#39;s Ball, Tennis Canada, Toronto Jazz Festival and Toronto Film Festival. Born and raised in southern Ontario, Dueck is a graduate of George Brown College, where he is currently a faculty member.</p>

     <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>MIAMI  -- Carnival Corporation &amp; plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; <a href="http://finance.google.com/finance?q=CUK" target="_blank">NYSE: CUK</a>) today announced that it has updated earnings guidance for the second half of 2013, primarily due to lower net revenue yield expectations.</p>

<p>Current cruise ticket pricing for the company has driven higher booking volumes however, at the same time, it has led to lower than anticipated net revenue yields which has resulted in reduced earnings guidance.</p>

<p>The company now expects full year 2013 net revenue yields to be down 2 to 3 percent compared to the previous flat yield guidance for the year. In addition, voyage cancellations beyond those incorporated in the company&#39;s previous earnings guidance, as well as increased selling and administrative costs, are expected to reduce earnings by approximately $0.10 per share.</p>

<p>Based on the above factors, as well as current fuel prices of $674 per metric ton and currency exchange rates of $1.30 to the Euro and $1.53 to the pound, the company now expects full year 2013 EPS to be in the range of $1.45 to $1.65 compared to its previous earnings guidance range of $1.80 to $2.10. The company continues to expect second quarter 2013 EPS to be in the range of $0.04 to $0.08 per share despite slightly lower yield expectations.</p>

<p>The company will announce second quarter results and more details of its 2013 full year guidance (updated for current spot prices for fuel and exchange rates) during its regularly scheduled earnings conference call to be held in late June 2013.</p>

<p>Created through an association between Travelodge, National Geographic and The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the Travelodge ZOOcation promotion runs through September 30, 2013 and is only available at Travelodge.com. Free children&#39;s tickets are awarded in the form of a voucher and are redeemable when combined with the purchase of an equal number of adult admissions at a participating AZA-accredited zoo.</p>

<p>&#39;Travelodge wants to keep guests close to adventure and what better way to do that than to help them get out and visit their favorite zoo,&#39; said Kevin McCabe, senior director of marketing for Travelodge. &#39;Plus, with 350 hotels throughout the U.S., average rates starting at less than $70 a night and free extras like breakfast and Wi-Fi, having a great adventure isn&#39;t dependent on traveling far or spending a lot of money.&#39;</p>
