Industry accreditation brings benefits of CSR's leading Wi-Fi to the Chinese market

Cambridge, UK - CSR (LSE: CSR) today announced that its award-winning CSR9000 Bluetooth + Wi-Fi product has been certified under China's Wireless LAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure (WAPI) qualification. CSR's CSR9000 solution was also awarded the EDN China Innovation Award for Leading Embedded System and IC Product.

WAPI is a critical product certification in China for Wi-Fi security. This certification makes CSR's embedded Wi-Fi an ideal option for China's many OEMs developing leading wireless technologies for the rapidly growing Chinese market.

The WAPI standard affects all mobile devices with Wi-Fi functions, and defines the specification and testing methods in the physical layer interface. In order to achieve certification, the Wi-Fi function must be tested in accordance with the specification issued by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

CSR's approach to Wi-Fi security is considerably more advanced than most of the traditional alternatives on the market. By using a hardware encryption engine we believe CSR9000 achieves significantly faster throughput than other solutions which rely on slower software implementations of the WAPI. This swift throughput advantage translates into a noticeably improved user experience, with web pages and other content downloading at much faster speeds.

Sebastian Koh, Vice President Asia Pacific, CSR said, 'China is an important market for CSR, which is why we have invested in an optimised hardware solution to implement WAPI encryption. The CSR9000 Bluetooth + Wi-Fi combination has enjoyed a good response from other regions. WAPI certification will allow Chinese customers to benefit from the small size of CSR9000. CSR's hardware-based approach to encryption means that we don't use up any of the precious processing power of the mobile device performing encryption algorithms. This means that consumers benefit from noticeably faster response times in the transfer of data and files, as the processor is freed up to deal with user applications rather than encryption issues."

Qin Zhi Qiang, General Secretary of the WAPI Alliance commented, 'It is good to see that CSR has implemented WAPI in its CSR9000 products. Wireless security is an important issue for consumers today, and the adoption of WAPI helps to address these concerns. We're also pleased with CSR's commitment to WAPI in investing in a hardware-based solution. This allows users to benefit from excellent security without sacrificing throughput."

With ABI Research estimating that in 2009 alone the Wi-Fi chipset shipments for smartphones will be over 100 million units, the potential for the China market for Wi-Fi enabled phones is already a significant opportunity and is expected to grow substantially by 2012. This potential for growth may be stimulated primarily by the projected increasing consumer demand for Wi-Fi enabled smart phones. Wi-Fi enabled phones have access to faster internet connections than can be achieved over cellular connections, providing subscribers with access to more services and data features whilst on the move.

CSR has also been presented with a leading electronics industry award for its innovative connectivity combo solution at a ceremony held on Wednesday evening at the Seaview City Hotel in Shenzhen. The EDN China Innovation Award, for Leading Embedded System and IC Product, was awarded to CSR's CSR9000 solution. Readers of EDN China were able to vote for all the awards. CSR9000 enables the smallest connectivity modules with sizes less than 60mm2 and is now in mass production.

About CSR
CSR plc is a leading provider of multifunction connectivity and location platforms. CSR's technology portfolio includes Bluetooth, GPS, FM, Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11), UWB, NFC and other technologies to enable silicon platforms that incorporate fully integrated radio, baseband and microcontroller elements. CSR's Connectivity Centre is designed to enhance the user experience with mainstream mobile devices by intelligent integration of multiple wireless connectivity and location-awareness technologies. CSR's Location Platforms are complemented by wireless connectivity and multimedia capabilities for high-volume mobile consumer devices and commercial applications.

CSR's technology has been adopted by market leaders into a wide range of mobile consumer devices such as mobile phones, automobile navigation and telematics systems, portable navigation devices (PNDs), wireless headsets, mobile computers, mobile internet devices, GPS recreational devices, digital cameras, mobile gaming, plus a wide range of personal and commercial tracking applications.

More information can be found at www.csr.com

FORWARD LOOKING STATEMENTS
This press release contains certain statements (including statements concerning plans and objectives of management for future operations or performance, or assumptions related thereto) that are 'forward looking statements' within the meaning of the United States Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995 in relation to WAPI certification for CSR9000, the Chinese market, CSR9000's throughput speed, user experience and Wi-Fi-chipset shipments, and related events and their potential effects on CSR.
Studies Explain How Bluetooth Headsets Provide Freedom, Style, and Comfort

Multiple findings demonstrate that today's cell-phone users are turning to Bluetooth headsets to communicate on a daily basis, due to strict traffic laws regarding driving while using a cell phone across the globe as well as advancements in Bluetooth headset technology and design.

The benefit of a Bluetooth headset is its hands-free characteristic which complies with state and national laws and regulations centered on cell phone use while driving. According to Jonathan Takiff from the Philadelphia Daily News, '14 states in America, with Philadelphia next in line, have made it a crime to 'hold a mobile phone to [the] ear while driving.'

As a report from ConsumerReports(dot)com suggests, when a Bluetooth headset is 'paired with a cell phone that's Bluetooth compatible, as virtually all new models are, the headset allows [one] to make or receive calls without touching [his] phone.' What this means is that the hands-free, wireless Bluetooth headset provides more freedom to talk while driving without being distracted as well as multitasking when at home or work.

Bluetooth headsets are engineered to provide individuals with the maximum comfort that makes wearing the devices unnoticeable. In the same ConsumerReports(dot)com finding, 'using a Bluetooth headset is much more convenient than being tethered to a wired headset or fumbling for the phone when it rings.' The headset is securely fit over the ear or into the ear canal, making the user ready to receive and end calls.

Almost all Bluetooth headsets are designed with a cushioned or rubber-covered ear piece that allows the device to sit in the ear canal. An ear hook or loop, which is usually a detachable one, provides more comfort and security and is adjustable. Bluetooth headsets are so lightweight and compact in size that they are barely felt when worn.

Cell phones are widely used across the globe and are designed to appeal and accommodate to anyone. As a result, Bluetooth headset manufacturers have turned a simple concept into a stylish device that conforms to any culture, race, or personality. Bluetooth headsets range from sporty to professional designs and are created to fit any lifestyle. Additionally, Bluetooth headsets are affordable for the average consumer due to the simplicity of the technology and function of the device.

Bluetooth technology has actually been around since 1999, but the headsets have become essential accessories for cell phone users in the past few years. According to a report from IntoMobile(dot)com, in 2008 alone, 43% of the Bluetooth headset owners in the United States used their device on a daily basis.

Linz, Austria, Siemens has received an order from Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Co. (Wisco), a Chinese steelmaker, to equip a coupled tandem pickling line in cold rolling mill no. 1 with energy-saving main drives. The Siroll CM process automation system will also be modernized. The order is worth several million euros. When the project is completed in September 2010, Wisco will also be able to produce high-strength steel grades in the plant.

Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Co. is located in Hubei Province in Central China. In 2008, it produced some 27 million tonnes of iron and steel, making it one of the country's largest producers. In recent years, Wisco and Siemens have been working together on a number of modernization and capacity expansion projects. Siemens and Voestalpine Industrieanlagenbau had previously modernized the cold rolling line in cold rolling mill no. 1 and coupled it to the pickling line in 2001. The improvements to the automation and drive systems of cold rolling mill no. 1 under this latest modernization project will enable Wisco to extend its range of products to include high-strength grades of steel with yield limits of up to 470 MPa. This means the company can produce steels for high-quality applications, such as those required in the automotive industry.

The coupled tandem pickling line will be equipped with Simovert DC Master circulating-current-free drive systems. This will not only reduce energy consumption, but also increase the productivity of the plant. The faster response time of the new drive equipment will further improve the gauge control using the mass flow concept. Additional control loops will reduce disturbances in the rolling process.

The existing Siroll CM automation system will be brought into line with the latest state of the art. Modernization of the basic automation and the operator control and monitoring system only requires modification of some software modules. The process automation will be fitted with a new operating system and additional process models. These include roll eccentricity compensation (REC) for stands 2 to 4, and a threading-in control system for ultra-thin, especially hard or sensitive types of steel. The scope of supply is rounded off by new emergency operation functions for dealing with any disturbances in the plant. Major reasons behind the decision to award this order to Siemens were the excellent results Wisco had obtained during previous joint projects and Siemens' ability to integrate the new process models and functions into the existing automation solution.

Further information about solutions for steel works, rolling mills and processing lines can be found at: http://www.siemens.com/metals

A photo supplements this press release.

News Highlights

    * Researchers at a new European Intel lab will explore computers with a thousand times the performance of today's fastest supercomputers.
* Effort is part of Intel Labs Europe, Intel's research network of 900 researchers in the European region.
* Intel has committed a multi-million Euro investment toward a new lab. CEA, UVSQ and GENCI will jointly match Intel's contribution.

PARIS - Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique, Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif, Intel Corporation and Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines have entered into an agreement to create an Exascale Computing Research Center. Part of Intel's European research network - Intel Labs Europe – the center will explore how to build high-performance computing systems with a thousand times the performance of today's fastest supercomputers. The term "exascale" refers to computers that are able to process 1 trillion – or 1 million million million – instructions per second.

Intel will support the Exascale Computing Research Center with a multi-million Euro investment over a 3-year period. The French Atomic Energy Commission (Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique), the Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University (Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) and the French National High-Performance Computing Agency (Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif) will combine to match Intel's contribution. This is Intel's first joint lab in Europe focused exclusively on high-performance computing. It will complement and extend Intel's existing high-performance computing research programs, investments and initiatives, including the Intel Academic Community Program and European Space Agency's "Mapping the Globe from Space" project.

"France has taken a leading role in driving high-performance computing research in Europe," said Steve Pawlowski, Intel senior fellow and general manager of Intel Architecture Group's central architecture and planning. "We chose to work with these three organizations because of their world-class software competency in exascale and high- performance computing."

The research agenda of the Exascale Computing Research Center will include integrating multi petaFLOPS systems, developing advanced performance optimization techniques, and collaborating with end users to optimize supercomputer performance in areas such as energy, seismology, computational fluid dynamics and health care.

The advent of exascale is expected to enable supercomputers to solve much more complex problems than today. For example in health care this capability should enable highly sophisticated genome calculations, enabling individualized patient treatment, or simulation of cell interactions to provide new cancer treatments. Another application can be found in seismology where exascale computing could enable more detailed prediction of ground movement at sites with high security requirements or where frequent movement is expected.

Innovative solution delivers dramatic cost savings, provides easy manageability and hassle-free rapid deployment

Munich/Tokyo, Fujitsu today announces the first true Zero Client, a simple-to-manage, intelligent front-end display device that delivers dramatic cost savings for organizations with large numbers of workplaces. The Fujitsu Zero Client does not require an operating system, processor, applications or local data backup, setting a new standard in cost-efficient connections to Desktop Virtual Machines (DVMs).

Fujitsu's innovative solution goes a step beyond previous market approaches towards fully virtualized clients, and represents the ultimate in cost-effectiveness and simplicity.

As companies turn increasingly to cloud computing, the Fujitsu Zero Client is the ideal access terminal for cloud or own-network hosted IT infrastructures. Customers such as financial institutions, insurance companies, government agencies and call centers can benefit most from the new product.

These organizations can leverage significant cost savings and reduce downtime thanks to the configuration-free Fujitsu Zero Client, providing immediate plug-and-use end-user access to DVMs, and requiring only one combined cable for power and network.

The solution is intended to increase customer satisfaction, as it provides built-in additional flexibility. Data can be accessed from any individual device within an infrastructure – which also simplifies administration. This central management of DVMs reduces complexity, administrative costs and downtime in the field. A defective terminal in the field is simply replaced; downtime is minimized as the corrupted virtual machine is re-provisioned or restored from backup within minutes.

Best of both worlds

Combining the rich user experience benefits of a desktop PC ('fat client') with the cost and efficiency advantages of a terminal-based solution, the Fujitsu Zero Client offers the best of both worlds.

The Fujitsu Zero Client is well suited for organizations that need fast scale up or scale down, or those that handle and manage sensitive data. The Fujitsu Zero Client gains its name since it has no operating system, applications, data, processors, memory, fan or any other moving parts. This also means lower maintenance costs and a longer lifespan.

Rajat Kakar, Vice President Clients Group at Fujitsu Technology Solutions says: 'For many organizations, the traditional client model is no longer viable or cost-efficient. Particularly for government organizations, banks and standard office infrastructures, the Fujitsu Zero Client will provide dramatic cost-savings in roll-out, deployment, management and administration. The Fujitsu Zero Client makes virtualized clients an affordable reality.'

The Fujitsu Zero Client is shown at the Fujitsu VISIT conference, taking place in Munich, Germany, on November 18 and 19. The Fujitsu Zero Client goes on sale in early 2010.

– Ends –

About Fujitsu

Fujitsu is a leading provider of IT-based business solutions for the global marketplace. With approximately 175,000 employees supporting customers in 70 countries, Fujitsu combines a worldwide corps of systems and services experts with highly reliable computing and communications products and advanced microelectronics to deliver added value to customers.

New Products Focus on Convenient Lifestyles While Delivering Added Safety Features

Paris, France and Armonk, NY - Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that they have teamed up with Panasonic's Home Appliances Company and its Kitchen Appliance Business Unit (BU) to support the development of more convenient and safer home appliances and accelerate the introduction of induced heating (IH) appliances, such as flat cooktops, into the Japanese market.

IH appliances are produced and developed by Panasonic's Kitchen Appliance BU and they are gaining popularity as an alternative to gas-heated appliances. These appliances generate heat through a process known as Joule heating or the transfer of heat to the bottom of a cooking pan through an electromagnetic field. Heating efficiency levels are over 90% since heat is transmitted directly to the cooking area safely without any air pollution as this method avoids cooking food using direct fire.

With its industry's first all-metal heating and light-sensor technologies, Panasonic's IH appliance leads the industry in heat induction technology allowing consumers to quickly measure cooking temperatures so they can accurately control the amount of heat generated for cooking.

As demand increases for products that perform intelligent functions, companies face the challenge of managing complex design environments to interconnect the software, mechanical and electrical components required to manufacture more sophisticated products. IBM and Dassault Systèmes are helping Panasonic's Kitchen Appliance BU use CATIA software, a 3D virtual design platform, for the digital development of product design plans used in the manufacturing of more energy-efficient, electrical appliances with features that will help consumers lead smarter lives.

Panasonic's Kitchen Appliance BU uses PLM software solution CATIA to help shorten the product development period and improve design quality as follows:

    * All design processes, from initial digital designs to physical mold designs, were done as part of one integral process to shorten the product development cycle.
* Key IH appliance parts, such as resin and plate parts, were designed in a 3D format allowing fast and direct collaboration with multiple factory mold makers. The process of mold drawing and production was shortened by 40%.
* Metal parts, critical to the operation of IH appliances, were designed and tested quickly, saving up to two days of testing time by using module of CATIA Sheet Metal Design.
* With CATIA Analysis features, product designers performed repeated analysis of large and complex assembly parts quickly, which allowed the Kitchen Appliance BU team to focus on delivering a high quality product early in the design process.

Industry analysts point to demand for future products such as zoneless induction stoves that can be powered with intelligent sensors that determine the presence of pots anywhere on the stove and automatically ignite energy under the cooking pot and nowhere else. Panasonic's Kitchen Appliance BU will continue using Dassault Systèmes PLM solution for the design and development of new eco-friendly products that help reduce of carbon monoxide (CO2) emissions.

"Compared to other software design products, CATIA has a rich set of design functions needed for products requiring sophisticated surface and shape designs such as our electric cooking heaters," said Mr. Yasushi Morimoto, team leader, Kitchen Appliance BU, Home Appliances Company, Panasonic Corporation. "Seamless integration between CAD, CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) drove our decision to choose Dassault Systèmes 3D platform.

Actel's highly configurable DSP IP cores provide easy implementation of complex DSP functions within RTAX-DSP Space-Flight FPGAs

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Actel Corporation (NASDAQ: ACTL) today announced several highly configurable DSP IP cores expanding the design creation capabilities for the RTAX2000D and RTAX4000D DSP FPGAs. The new cores enable designers to easily create common DSP functions such as filters (FIR, IIR) and transforms (FFT, IFT, DCT). Using a graphical user interface (GUI) embedded in Actel's Libero® Integrated Design Environment (IDE), the cores are targeted to RTAX-DSP space-flight FPGAs.

"By providing a simple but powerful user interface, these configurable DSP cores greatly simplify and shorten the design cycle for DSP applications targeting our new RTAX-DSP FPGAs for space-flight applications," said Ken O'Neill director, high reliability product marketing at Actel. "These new offerings expand the horizons of the RTAX series of FPGAs, which already have a well-established space-flight track record."
Actel's DSP IP Cores

The three new cores are supported through comprehensive software dialog windows allowing for the quick selection and configuration of multiple common DSP functions.

    * Multiplier
* Multiplier with Adder or Subtractor
* Multiplier with Accumulator

The configurable DSP IP cores generate structural netlists in either Verilog or VHDL and can be easily instantiated into a complex RTAX-DSP FPGA design using Actel's Libero IDE and SmartDesign graphical block system design creation tool. Comprehensive handbooks are available to assist designers in building various DSP functions.

The IP cores take advantage of the embedded mathblocks available in RTAX-DSP devices. Each mathblock contains a fast 18-by-18 bit hardware multiplier, plus a 41-bit internal adder-subtractor and register that can be configured for accumulating multiplier results. The multiplier can be broken into two 9-by-9 multipliers when less precision and more multipliers are needed. A number of different pipelining options are available, with optional registers on all inputs and outputs. Mathblocks have cascade outputs and inputs so, for common applications like FIR filters, they may be chained for maximum performance, leaving FPGA fabric resources free. RTAX-DSP devices have up to 120 mathblocks, each of which can perform full-precision multiplications at up to 125 MHz and has built-in protection against radiation-induced single event upsets (SEU) and single event transients (SET).

Availability of the new IP cores marks another milestone in the introduction and support of the RTAX-DSP FPGA product family, which merges enhanced signal processing capabilities with the tried-and-trusted technology of the underlying RTAX architecture and process. This underscores Actel's commitment to provide designers of space-flight systems with the performance and reliability they need.
Pricing and Availability

The cores are available immediately and are included with an Actel Libero IDE Platinum software license, priced at $2495 per seat.
