What that means is that agencies desperate to get their ads in front of as many eyeballs as possible pay GameVance for certain services. These include bombarding the gamer with an endless number of advertisements, which appear in the left corner of the screen.

So, how did this happen? When users authorize a free GameVance download, they are also unknowingly agreeing to a series of downloaded advertisements as well. This leaves the system vulnerable to infection by any number of viruses, spyware, and other security threats.

Although computer user can manually remove GameVance, experts caution against doing so as this may result in lasting damage to the operating system. Instead, industry experts recommend using a high quality, reliable antispyware programs like SpyZooka to remove GameVance from infected systems.

When choosing an antispyware program, keep in mind that legitimate antispyware software will scan the infected system, identify any existing spyware and remove it. Look for an effective antispyware program like SpyZooka, which backs its promises with a 100% satisfaction guarantee and is recognized by industry leaders as a legitimate and reliable security application.

SpyZooka has been removing adware like GameVance since 2004. During that time, SpyZooka has established itself as an industry leader and has won a number of awards including the prestigious Tucows 5 Cows and Wugnet's Shareware Hall of Fame.

To learn more about how SpyZooka can protect a system from GameVance and other security threats, or to receive a complementary scan go to http://bluepenguinsoftware.com/spyzooka/ today.

— WebWireID108039 —

Computer Gaming

Computer Software

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Atlanta, Georgia, USA – After months of development, Onix1 Island has become fully operational for all verified adult members of Second Life. The Xtreme Sports Tower, the most prominent feature on Onix1, offers ten extreme sports, many of which are unique activities in the entire Second Life world. The activities featured in the Xtreme Sports Tower include Water-Dip Bungee Jumping, a Giant Swing, a Skyjump, a Rap-Slide, Tower-Running, Ripride, an Ejection Seat, a Skyscraper, a Rocket-Launcher and Speed Wall-Climbing. The inspiration for the tower came from David Domenech Foix's offline project, the 'Thunderdome.'

'I have been working on the Thunderdome project for quite a while," said David Foix, founder of Onix1 Island. "When I discovered Second Life I immediately realized the potential entertainment values of a virtual reality where users can make and grow their own avatar. After fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming a successful sports marketing specialist, I developed my website, VirtualWorldsInfo.com. Since then I have been working to build Onix1 Island into what it is today: a veritable paradise for entertainment seekers who are looking to find other adventurous members of the Second Life community.'

The Xtreme Sports Tower is the centerpiece of Onix1; however, the island includes many other activities that Second Life avatars can partake in. In addition to the Adult Playground and a three- story mall complete with vendors and shops, the Beach Club is a popular hangout for Second Life members who are looking to relax and socialize. The Beach Club features a dance floor and bar, positioned at the base of a scenic mountain and waterfall.

'It was an extremely enriching experience practically growing my own resort," continued Foix. "I learned an enormous amount about virtual online worlds, avatars, and building a business in a virtual reality. Developing Onix1 and the Xtreme Sports Tower were great, and chronicling everything I have learned on my website has been just as satisfying.'

VirtualWorldsInfo.com is a resource for people interested in Second Life and other virtual worlds online, offering free information on designing avatars, virtual environments, and tips on creating an online business. The website also links to developing events on Onix1 Island, which include concerts, giveaways, and other creative activities for members of Second Life.

— WebWireID107877 —

Computer Gaming

Computer Networks

Entertainment

Lifestyle / Society

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

New Poll Shows 42 Percent Plan to Give or Hope to Receive a Game This Year

WASHINGTON, DC – Forty-two percent of American adults plan to give or hope to receive a computer or video game this holiday season, according to a new report released today by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). The poll, conducted by KRC Research, also found that 52 percent of respondents believe that with the current economy, video games are a good option for family entertainment this holiday season.

"Computer and video games are topping holiday lists because they provide a superior entertainment value for the whole family," said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA, the trade association representing U.S. computer and video game publishers. "With 68 percent of American households playing computer and video games, U.S. consumers value the creative and innovative products the entertainment software industry produces and are seeking them out for themselves and to give as gifts.'

The number of adults who plan to give or hope to receive at least one computer or video game this holiday season increased nine percentage points from 2007, representing the highest number since 2004. Additionally, the research showed yet again that both men and women enjoy computer and video games. Forty-seven percent of respondents identified women as an intended gift recipient, a 31 percent increase from 2007.

Holiday shoppers continue to choose computer and video games because they provide the gift of family entertainment at a great value. The survey showed that 54 percent of those who play computer and video games plan to play with a friend or family member during the holiday season. For about the cost for a family of four to go to a movie, a gift giver can find the perfect game that will amuse children and adults during the holidays and beyond. By using the tools provided by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) shoppers can choose games that are appropriate for their families.

The national telephone poll, conducted for the ESA by KRC Research, surveyed 1,001 U.S. adults, between November 4 and 8, 2009.

The ESA is the U.S. association dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of companies publishing interactive games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers, and the Internet. The ESA offers services to interactive entertainment software publishers including a global anti-piracy program, owning the E3 Expo, business and consumer research, federal and state government relations, First Amendment and intellectual property protection efforts.
Industry Commends Action Protecting Video Game Artists and Developers - - TORONTO, Ontario – The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the Entertainment Software Association Canada (ESAC) today ...

Industry Commends Action Protecting Video Game Artists and Developers

TORONTO, Ontario – The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the Entertainment Software Association Canada (ESAC) today commended the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and York Police Service for the October 29 raids on retailers selling pirated and counterfeit entertainment software at the Pacific Mall in Markham, Ontario.

"We are pleased with the outcome of this legal action and thank the RCMP and York Police Service for their efforts in protecting the video game business in Canada," said Danielle Parr, executive director of the ESAC, the industry association that represents computer and video game publishers and distributors in Canada. "Game piracy is a serious problem that costs the entertainment software industry millions of dollars each year. Law enforcement raids against notorious pirate retailers like those in Pacific Mall send a clear message that trafficking in pirated game products is illegal and will not be tolerated."

The raids mark the end of a two-month investigation, led by the Toronto North Federal Enforcement Section (RCMP) "O" Division, into pirate activities at one of the largest indoor shopping malls in North America. RCMP agents, with the assistance of York Police officers, executed warrants against two retail outlets in Pacific Mall, two automobiles (each linked with one of the retail targets), and the residence of the owner/operator of one of the raided outlets. During the raids on these targets, RCMP seized counterfeit manufacturing equipment, in addition to counterfeit video games, including computer hard drives and a multi DVD burner, as well as nine firearms and arrested a total of three individuals.

"Piracy hurts the creative artists and innovation that generates real jobs in this tough economy," said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA, the trade association representing U.S. computer and video game publishers. "The ESA applauds the efforts of the RCMP and York Police Service to combat game piracy in Canada. The ESA will continue to provide full support to authorities around the world who conduct necessary enforcement actions."

Since 2004, ESAC has supported ESA's industry enforcement program targeting game software piracy in Canada. Working with local counsel and investigators, the ESA identifies instances of pirate activity involving game software and supports the efforts of Canadian law enforcement to address such illegal activity.

For more information, please visit www.theESA.com.

The ESAC is dedicated exclusively to serving the business and public affairs needs of companies in Canada that publish and distribute computer and video games for video game consoles, handheld devices, personal computers and the Internet. ESAC provides its members with business and consumer research, government relations and a global anti-piracy program.

Gaming software maker benefits from more accurate data to drive higher quality of intelligence

WASHINGTON — Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, announced today that Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), a leading global interactive entertainment software company, has selected and implemented Teradata Master Data Management (MDM) running on a Teradata platform as its enterprise master data management solution. Teradata Master Data Management gives companies powerful capabilities to ensure that all definitive data pertaining to products, customers and suppliers is accurate.

'In a head-to-head competition with a competing vendor's MDM product, we found that Teradata MDM's flexibility, scalability and ability to successfully implement an integrated MDM solution were key in our decision,' said Dennis Self, chief information officer, Electronic Arts. 'Teradata demonstrated a singular capability to deliver a true enterprise-class MDM solution, enabling us to manage all types of master data on a unified platform. Teradata's array of hardware, software and services reflect an expansive knowledge of MDM as well as our unique business requirements, and will support our drive to dramatically enhance data accuracy and corporate performance.'

Master data management is becoming a strategic priority for business and technology professionals who are under pressure to improve the quality and consistency of data. This is supported by analysts who have projected the MDM market to reach more than $6 billion by 2010, with significant year-over-year growth.'

Teradata MDM enables companies to create and manage a definitive single view of its most valuable data – a consistent master reference for the entire enterprise – which helps ensure timely availability of complete, accurate data in a common language for better planning and optimal decision-making. It brings economies to the business through reduced labor on data preparation, management, and interface development; and reduced time on data maintenance. MDM also supports rapid reconfiguration of business processes across the enterprise and provides data synchronization while leveraging existing platforms and legacy applications.

'Many companies still have numerous time consuming, error prone manual methods of creating and managing critical data that is used for business processes such as new product introduction, customer and supplier management as well as risk analysis,' said Mark Shainman, MDM program director for Teradata. 'Our new version of Teradata MDM with market leading workflow and hierarchy management capabilities is helping EA integrate, manage and share master data for both operational and analytical processes with much more efficiency and effectiveness. It is highly optimized for the Teradata platform with superb functionality.'

— WebWireID106362 —

Business Announcements

Computer Gaming

Computer Software

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Combination of NVIDIA GPUs and Windows 7 Take Gaming to New Levels of Immersion, Delivering Best Experience Yet for PC Gamers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - PC gaming experienced a major inflection point today with the release of Microsoft Corp.'s new Windows 7 operating system, which creates the ultimate gaming platform when combined with NVIDIA® GeForce® graphics processing units (GPUs).

'New advances in parallel computing, physics, and, stereoscopic 3D have amplified the importance of the GPU,' said Mike Ybarra, general manager of Windows Product Management at Microsoft. 'These advances, combined with Windows 7, DirectX 11, and DirectCompute will transform PC gaming for years to come.'

A Windows 7 PC powered by NVIDIA GeForce GPUs will feature technologies that provide an unprecedented level of immersion that make gaming more rewarding than ever, including:

    * NVIDIA 3D Vision™ technology turns a 2D world into a fully immersive stereoscopic 3D experience. Characters and objects appear to have real depth and literally jump out of the screen.
* NVIDIA PhysX™ engine turns a static world into a dynamic world that comes to life. Walls can be torn down, with realistic effect. Glass can be shattered. Trees bend in the wind. Water flows with body and force.
* NVIDIA SLI™ technology allows the highest quality and fastest frame rates by combining multiple GeForce GPUs in a PC. On average, SLI technology is up to 15% faster on Windows 7 than on previous Windows operating systems.
* Microsoft DirectCompute, a new application program interface (API) for GPU computing, will allow game developers to introduce new visual effects with fewer compromises to performance. Applications include image post-processing, shading & lighting effects, and artificial intelligence.
* Microsoft DirectX 11, the next-generation Direct3D API, will enable game developers to take advantage of NVIDIA's next generation GPU architecture, codenamed 'Fermi', and create advanced visual effects for upcoming 2010 gaming titles.

'Despite rumors to the contrary, research shows that PC gaming is growing at a rapid pace and NVIDIA is the torchbearer for PC gaming,' said Jon Peddie, principal analyst for Jon Peddie Research. 'Superior graphics, stereoscopic 3D, and advanced physics are features that differentiate the NVIDIA GeForce gaming experience from gaming consoles and other PC components.'

For more information on Windows 7 and NVIDIA GPUs visit http://www.nvidia.com/windows7.

Consumers already running a GeForce GPU with Windows 7 can download the new WHQL-certified drivers supporting DirectCompute directly from www.nvidia.com/drivers

About NVIDIA
NVIDIA (Nasdaq: NVDA) awakened the world to the power of computer graphics when it invented the graphics processing unit (GPU) in 1999. Since then, it has consistently set new standards in visual computing with breathtaking, interactive graphics available on devices ranging from portable media players to notebooks to workstations. NVIDIA's expertise in programmable GPUs has led to breakthroughs in parallel processing which make supercomputing inexpensive and widely accessible. Fortune magazine has ranked NVIDIA #1 in innovation in the semiconductor industry for two years in a row.
