Cookeville High School in Tennessee chosen as the winner of the Act Out Loud program

NORTHBROOK, Ill.

More than 100,000 teens across the country raised their voices for teen safe driving as a part of this year's Act Out Loud contest, sponsored by The Allstate Foundation and National Organizations for Youth Safety. Students at nearly 350 schools were challenged to design a t-shirt, a poster and host a rally in the spring to encourage more teens to have a conversation with their peers about staying safe on the road.

Cookeville High School was selected as the grand prize winning school and will be awarded $10,000 to continue supporting safe driving programs at their school. Participating schools were judged on several criteria, including involvement of student body, strength of teen safe driving messages, creativity of activities and community and school administration involvement.

Cookeville High School will receive the top prize because the school's SADD and TEST chapter-led rallies created a high level of involvement from the entire student body and even teens from neighboring schools. Their student-led rally gained the attention of country music star Tim McGraw, who invited select Cookeville High School students to attend the premiere of his new music video focused on the dangers of distracted driving. The school also produced a winning poster design as one of the steps in the Act Out Loud contest.

"Learning to drive is one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences a teen goes through, but it comes with tremendous responsibility," said Keri Hunt, Allstate agency owner in Cookeville, who supported the students' rally. "The students from Cookeville High School went above and beyond to educate their classmates and friends about the importance of earning the keys to the car."

Five additional winners from the Act Out Loud contest were also selected to receive monetary prizes for their rallies.

Runner Up Winners:
Dubiski Career High School, Business Professionals of America (Grand Prairie, Texas)
Franklin Community High School, Business Professionals of America (Franklin, Ind.)
Seekonk High School (Boston, Mass.)
Argonaut High School, Friday Night Live (Jackson, Calif.)
Gillespie High School, Miners Preparing And Caring for Teen Driving (Gillespie, Ill.)

Act Out Loud supports Global Youth Traffic Safety Month® in May. The program engages youth from across the country in peer-to-peer education efforts to address the number one cause of death for teens in the U.S. – traffic crashes.

Mobile Experience is Critical to Business Success but Most CMOs and eCommerce Executives Struggle to Understand the Omnichannel Customer, Says IBM

ARMONK, N.Y. and MONACO - A new IBM (NYSE: IBM) sponsored survey of business professionals finds that while chief marketing officers (CMOs) and ecommerce leaders recognize mobile as critical to their business objectives, two-thirds of those same professionals, indicate they don't have a strong understanding of the mobile user experience. With 89 percent of customers choosing to do business with a competitor, following a poor customer experience, businesses are turning to big data and digital analytics to better understand the omnichannel customer.

Mobile traffic continues to grow, with respondents attributing 19 percent of their total traffic to a mobile device. But businesses continue to struggle with providing a quality mobile experience, with 40 percent of companies agreeing that 'delivering positive customer experiences is harder on mobile than the web.'For many companies, their answer to creating a mobile presence is simply adapting an existing website as opposed to building a mobile experience from the ground up, with 70 percent of respondents describing their multichannel experience for customers as 'okay' or 'poor.'As such, the top three most serious mobile issues include bad navigation/poor 'findabilty' screen-sizing issues, and form-filling problems.

The survey titled, 'Reducing Customer Struggle 2013,'was conducted for IBM by Econsultancy and surveyed more than 500 business professionals globally, across a variety of sectors, including retail, financial services, travel, and customer services. While mobile stood out as a key focus for many companies, the survey found that wider customer experience challenges remain, both in terms of understanding customer struggle and also addressing pain points. Seven percent of companies indicate they have an 'excellent' understanding of the overall online customer experience, a three point increase over 2012. Yet a further 78 percent say their company has a 'good' or 'okay' understanding. Specifically, companies understand how customers behave during the initial awareness stages of the sales funnel, but still lack understanding around the purchase stages and the reasons behind cart abandonment.

Additional results from the survey include:

Offline & Digital Integration Still Lacking:

- When it comes to the multichannel experience, only 4 percent of respondents said they provide an 'excellent' experience. The majority of companies polled referred to their multichannel experience as okay or poor. Offline and online integration, while important, is still a struggle for most businesses. When it comes to integrating offline and online channels, most companies focus on basic functionality such as including information about offline locations, contact details and opening hours on their website. Other ways of integrating offline and online channels include establishing a social presence for offline products or services and mobile or local search engine optimization. When asked if offline parts of the business have visibility into individual customer engagement via digital channels, only 7 percent of respondents said, 'very much so.'

Marketing & eCommerce Professionals Increase Investment in Online Channels

- 73 percent of companies surveyed plan to increase investment in online channels this year. With a staggering 6.9 billion mobile subscriptions globally, another 72 percent of respondents expect to invest more in mobile channels. Social is also seeing gains, with 53 percent of companies expecting to increase investment in this channel as well. On the other hand, more than two-thirds of respondents indicated they either plan to decrease or maintain the same level of investment in offline channels such as stores, shops and branches.

Big Data, Analytics and Digital Experience (session) Replay Provide Best Answers for Improving Customer Experience:

· Most companies point to big data as the key to understanding the customer experience. Further, three in five companies consider digital experience (session) replay as very effective, however, only a quarter of companies use this method. This same method is also considered the best tool to identify problems or issues with the digital experience, with the proportion of organizations saying session replay is very effective, an increase of 10 percent over 2012's survey. When it comes to social media, while most respondents consider social listening to be ineffective, at the same time, respondents do agree social gives insight 'into what is working and what is not.'

CMOs can use IBM MobileFirst solutions, to help overcome many of the challenges outlined to more easily embrace mobile as part of their marketing strategies.

Reflecting both national and local trends, new custom and semi-custom luxury homes are selling at a brisk pace in Heritage Hills, a successful residential community in south metro Denver's Lone Tree area.

2013 has been an excellent year for the Denver real estate market. Contributing to the strength of the local housing market is an increase in home prices nationwide. Median home prices improved 10.9% in May—the largest year-over-year increase since 2006. In addition to increasing home prices, the residential sales recovery in Denver is being bolstered by rising consumer confidence—at its highest point in 5 years—and historically low interest rates.

A Celebrity Communities development, Heritage Hills has sold all but seven custom home sites in The Summit at Heritage Hills. Another section of the attractive residential community, The Overlook has recorded nine sales in the community's semi-custom home collection. Since its opening in 2011, twenty-five homes have sold in The Overlook.

Says Celebrity Communities' principal, Dan Verdoorn, 'We are enjoying the renewed excitement about the local real estate market. It's great to see people able to sell their homes and enjoying the process of building a new home in Heritage Hills.'

Celebrity Communities has been a committed and loyal Denver area developer for over fifty years. 'We don't develop in other areas, we don't do commercial, we don't do anything except plan and thoughtfully develop outstanding Denver area neighborhoods. It's our sole passion,' said Celebrity Communities Principal Kurt Miller, adding, 'Heritage Hills has always been a sought-after community. We're working hard to meet the demand while keeping to our high standards of excellence in new home design and customer service.'

Celebrity Communities is focused on two well-established new home communities in the south Denver metro area: Lone Tree's Heritage Hills and Pradera in Parker. Each of these well-located luxury home neighborhoods features a variety of lots, inviting home styles and life-enriching community and area amenities, including an abundance of trails and open space, golf, tennis, shopping and dining and, of course, swimming pools.

Heritage Hills offers two collections of new luxury homes in a gated community in Douglas County, Colorado. The Summit offers custom homes from $1 million+, and The Overlook offers European-inspired semi-custom homes from the $800s. For more information about homes at Heritage Hills, visit heritagehillscolorado.com or call 303-706-0466

— WebWireID176141 —

Advertising / Marketing

Architecture / Construction / Building

Business Announcements

Lifestyle / Society

Real Estate

WebWire® | More Feeds

Renault's Chief Operating Officer, Carlos Tavares, and Christian Vandenhende, Senior Vice President, Purchasing, and Chairman of RNPO (Renault-Nissan Purchasing Organization) awarded 12 suppliers trophies yesterday.

Awarded independently of size, country of origin and field of activity, the trophies reward the best suppliers for their results in 2012 in three categories viewed as priorities for Renault: quality, innovation and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).

According to Carlos Tavares, 'Performance can only be achieved as part of a long-lasting relationship built on trust between manufacturers and suppliers. In recent years, Renault has strengthened its mode of collaborating with its suppliers so that they become true partners. Quality, innovation and CSR are the three fundamental pillars of this relationship.'

'Recognizing and rewarding our suppliers' outstanding performance and commitment with these trophies also helps to build partnerships that last,' adds Christian Vandenhende.

39 baggage machines at Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg airports

Lufthansa is investing in innovative technologies that provide greater comfort for passengers. Just in time for the summer travelling season, passengers at Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg airports can now take advantage of the 39 baggage machines and drop off their luggage themselves. Passengers who have already received their boarding pass by checking in online, via a mobile device or at a check-in machine within 23 hours before departure can simply make their way to one of the baggage machines and send their luggage on its journey themselves without having to queue. Customers can then pass directly through security and go to their gate.

Here's how it works: To drop off luggage, it is placed on the belt and the barcode printed on the boarding pass is scanned. The baggage machine prints a self-adhesive luggage tag, which can be attached to the bags easily. The luggage is then transported by the machine to the airport's conveyor belts and the passenger receives a print-out of their receipt.

This service was tested in Munich and Frankfurt over a number of months last year. Due to the positive feedback from customers and the high level of use, this service has now been expanded. To date, Lufthansa passengers have already checked in more than 640,000 pieces of luggage via the machines.

The new baggage machine locations at a glance
Frankfurt: 16 baggage machines, 8 in departure hall B, 8 in departure hall A (Terminal 1)
Munich: 19 baggage machines, 13 at the south and 6 at the north side entrances (Terminal 2 Departures)
Hamburg: 4 baggage machines at the end of check-in rows 7 and 8 (Terminal 2)

— WebWireID176135 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Travel Industry

WebWire® | More Feeds

Pristina, Kosovo - IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is working with Kosovo's TEB bank to increase lending to micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), boosting the competitiveness of the country's banking sector and spurring economic growth.

IFC will lend €4.5 million to TEB. The subordinated loan will be counted towards the bank's supplementary capital, enabling increased lending to MSMEs. Expanding access to finance for MSMEs in Kosovo, where unemployment is around 45 percent, will create jobs, grow the economy, reduce poverty and sustain overall development.

'TEB has a strategic partnership with IFC and we are working together to increase the quality and diversity of our financial services to businesses in Kosovo,' said Orkun Mungan, Managing Director at TEB Kosovo. 'We remain committed to our clients in Kosovo and want to see them grow and expand beyond the country's borders and realize their potential.'

By extending this loan to TEB, IFC is also supporting foreign investments and encouraging other investors to explore possibilities in Kosovo.

'We are working with TEB in Kosovo to ensure that smaller companies have access to capital,' said Tomasz Telma, IFC Director for Europe and Central Asia. 'IFC's loan will increase lending to local companies at a time when businesses continue to face difficulties in obtaining funding for their development.'

Kosovo became an IFC member and shareholder in 2009. So far, IFC has invested in the manufacturing and financial sectors. IFC's advisory services in Kosovo aim to improve the investment climate, boost the performance of companies, and increase private sector participation in infrastructure projects.

About IFC
IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector. We help developing countries achieve sustainable growth by financing investment, mobilizing capital in international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. In FY12, our investments reached an all-time high of more than $20 billion, leveraging the power of the private sector to create jobs, spark innovation, and tackle the world's most pressing development challenges.
USDA Celebrates National Small Business Week with Continued Investments to Help Rural Business Grow

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announces $4.7 million in additional investment for rural small businesses

WASHINGTON,– Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today kicked off National Small Business Week by highlighting USDA's actions to help rural small businesses create jobs, get access to capital and spur economic growth. He also announced the selection of recipients for USDA's Rural Business Enterprise Grants. USDA remains focused on carrying out its mission, despite a time of significant budget uncertainty.

"Small businesses are the backbone of the economy in small towns and rural communities, just as they are in our biggest cities," Vilsack said. "USDA supports small businesses by providing job training, business development opportunities, strategic community planning and other resources. We're focused on making sure that Main Street businesses have the tools they need to grow."

Secretary Vilsack announced 54 awards under the Rural Business Enterprise Grants program in 21 states – Alaska, Arizona, California, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. Please click here (http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/SupportDocuments/RD_Small_BusinessWeekGrantRecipients2013.pdf) for a complete list of Rural Business Enterprise Grants awarded today.

USDA has several initiatives underway to support small businesses and the communities they serve. Altogether, USDA business and cooperative development programs have had a significant impact on rural communities – achieving record results under President Obama. Since 2009, USDA has provided more than 15,000 loans and grants through its business programs, helping more than 60,000 rural small businesses. For more information on USDA's business and cooperative development programs, visit http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/Business.html.

This assistance has also been directed toward historically underserved communities. For example, USDA Rural Development is working closely with the Appalachian Regional Commission on a public/private partnership to help economies prosper. This partnership is intended to create a stronger and more diversified Appalachian economy. It compliments several other initiatives USDA has in place. Additionally, USDA is working in persistent poverty areas in 16 states to leverage local partnerships and grow the economy through its StrikeForce for Rural Growth and Opportunity.

Rural small businesses are encouraged to contact their nearest USDA Rural Development office for information about available assistance. A list of these offices is available at http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/StateOfficeAddresses.html.

The funding announced today under the Rural Business Enterprise Grants program will help support the Obama Administration's vision by providing rural communities with resources to support small businesses, improve public facilities, and create new, sustainable jobs. Funding is contingent upon the recipient meeting the conditions for the grant.

The Rural Business Enterprise Grant program also supports the development of local food systems. For example, in 2010, the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., received a $35,000 Rural Business Enterprise Grant to support the county's Farm Fresh program. It is designed to enhance agri-tourisim. As a result, EDC provides transportation for more than 2,300 visitors from metropolitan areas to small farms and vineyards throughout rural New York. The funding has increased tourism in rural New York and expanded markets for several small businesses.

Rural Business Enterprise Grants and other USDA programs help rural small businesses manufacture new products, expand local food systems and create jobs. Secretary Vilsack continued a call this week for Congress to pass a comprehensive, multiyear Food, Farm and Jobs Bill as soon as possible. Leaders from both parties have signaled a willingness to come together and get this critically important legislation passed. On June 10, 2013, the U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan version of a Food, Farm and Jobs Bill. Secretary Vilsack noted that he is encouraged by signs that the House of Representatives will consider a bill this week.

President Obama's plan to revitalize the rural economy has brought about historic investment over the past four years – including in America's small towns and rural communities. USDA, through its Rural Development mission area, has a portfolio of programs designed to improve the economic stability of rural communities, businesses, residents, farmers and ranchers and improve the quality of life in rural America.

USDA has made a concerted effort to deliver results for the American people, even as USDA implements sequestration – the across-the-board budget reductions mandated under terms of the Budget Control Act. USDA has already undertaken historic efforts since 2009 to save more than $828 million in taxpayer funds through targeted, common-sense budget reductions. These reductions have put USDA in a better position to carry out its mission, while implementing sequester budget reductions in a fair manner that causes as little disruption as possible.

During the meeting, which was held in an atmosphere of cordiality, they discussed the progress of the Perla super-giant field project, one of the largest gas fields discovered in the world in recent years, and Junín-5 oil field project.

Rome, - - The President of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, the Minister of Petroleum of Venezuela, Rafael Ramirez, and the CEO of Eni, Paolo Scaroni, met today in Rome to discuss the activities and joint projects in Venezuela.

During the meeting, which was held in an atmosphere of cordiality, they discussed the progress of the Perla super-giant field project, one of the largest gas fields discovered in the world in recent years, and Junín-5 oil field project.

Eni has been present in Venezuela since 1998. The company has participated in the development of heavy oil block Junín-5, located in the Orinoco oil belt and whose production was started in March, which has a capacity of 35 billion barrels of oil equivalent certificates in place. Junín-5 is jointly operated by two joint ventures (Empresa Mixta) formed by PDVSA (60%) and Eni (40%): PetroJunín, for the development and production, and PetroBicentenario, for the construction and operation of a refinery in the Jose Industrial Complex, with a 350,000 barrels per day capacity.

In Venezuela, Eni is also co-operator of Cardón IV, the operating company which manages the Perla super-giant gas field, whose reserves are estimated at approximately 17 Trillion cubic feet (Tcf), or 3.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Perla shareholders, following the entry of PDVSA in the project, will be PDVSA (35%), Eni (32.5%) and Repsol (32.5%). Eni also holds a participating interest in Petrosucre, the operating company of the Corocoro offshore field (PDVSA 74%, Eni 26%), with a net production of approximately 10,000 barrels of oil per day.

— WebWireID176123 —

Business Announcements

Government

Oil / Energy

WebWire® | More Feeds

Schoolgirl campaigner Malala urges support for girls' education on 16th birthday

Schoolgirl campaigner Malala Yousafazi is marking her 16th birthday by taking her education campaign global.

Young people from all over the world will undertake the first ever youth takeover of the United Nations General Assembly on 12 July, led by Malala.

Malala was shot by armed Taliban gunmen while she was on her way to school in Pakistan last October – targeted for her support of girls' education.

Photographed at her new home in the UK, Malala showed her support for Plan's global Because I am a Girl campaign by raising her hand for girls' education worldwide. (raise your hand in support of girls' education)

The teenager will lead the unique UN event, calling for urgent prioritisation of education in failing states across the globe and highlighting the plight of 'other Malalas' around the world.

A series of high profile events will be championed by UN Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown, A World At School and global children's charity Plan International.

Malala Day

12 July has been officially declared as Malala Day.

'This is an opportunity for every young person on the planet to get together and tell the world: we will get our education, be it at home, in school or any place,' says Malala.

An ardent campaigner for girls' education in Pakistan, this will be Malala's first major public appearance and speech since being shot last year.

"On Malala Day young people from all over the world will highlight the continued perils of child labour, child marriage and child trafficking, all of which prevent girls going to school. They will call for the 2 million teachers and 4 million classrooms needed to put into schooling the children who currently go without,' said Mr Brown.

"But the speakers of Malala Day will also highlight that they are part of a fightback - a fightback by girls and boys themselves, as young people are proving more assertive than the adults who were charged with delivering their rights."

Live link-up

In addition to activities in New York, Plan is hosting a live link-up with the event at London's Southbank Centre which will be attended by hundreds of school children, youth representatives and Plan UK Ambassador, Sarah Brown.

The link-up will bring together hundreds of school children from the UK with young people leading the UN takeover.

Plan's Because I am a Girl campaign backs Mr Brown's work to end gender discrimination in schools around the world.

Plan has a delegation of young people taking part in the UN youth takeover which is calling for urgent action by member states to ensure they meet Millennium Development Goal 2 on education by 2015.

Their inputs will also then feed into setting the agenda for global education priorities post-2015.

Millions of Malalas

Plan International CEO Nigel Chapman said: 'This is a truly unique and landmark event which puts education high up on the agenda. Malala has become iconic in representing many girls' difficult struggle to obtain their rightful education.

'But there are millions of 'other Malalas' across the world – a whole generation of girls and boys who are excluded daily from learning by violence, discrimination or harmful traditional practices. This momentous takeover day is about standing together and ensuring that their voices are heard.'

'Education for girls is essential. They become aware and can learn life skills. In hard times, they can earn a livelihood and help support their family,' Humaira, 18, Pakistan.

Background

The UN takeover is part of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon's Education First initiative and has been organised by the UN Special Envoy for Global Education, Gordon Brown, who will be in attendance on the day.

-Today around 57 million primary school aged children are not in school (30 million girls).
-Around 1 in 3 girls worldwide is denied an education due to violence, discrimination, poverty and practices such as child marriage.
-Because I am a Girl is Plan's campaign to fight gender inequality, and aims to support millions of girls to get the education, skills and support they need to transform their lives and the world around them.
-Founded over 75 years ago, Plan is one of the oldest and largest children's development organisations in the world. We work in 50 developing countries across Africa, Asia and the Americas to promote child rights and lift millions of children out of poverty. In 2012, Plan worked with 84 million children in 90,131 communities. Plan is independent, with no religious, political or governmental affiliations.

Join the campaign, raise your hand in support of girls' education & send your message to the UN Secretary General.

— WebWireID176122 —

Advertising / Marketing

Business Announcements

Education

Not for profit

Youth / Children

WebWire® | More Feeds

Director-General Calls On Members to Approve FAO's Programme of Work

Necessary for FAO to play a more significant role to eradicate hunger

Rome - FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva today has called on FAO's Conference to approve a Programme of Work and Budget that sharpens the focus of the Organization's actions to improve the assistance it gives to Member Countries in reaching their food security and agriculture goals.

'Since I took up office, brick by brick we have laid the foundation we need to improve the assistance we offer our Members,' Graziano da Silva told the Conference.

'This is the missing piece that will transform into concrete action the results of the Reviewed Strategic Framework that we have built together,' he added.

To implement the programme, the Organization is asking for a one percent real budget increase for the next two years, plus less than 4 percent needed to cover inflation and mandatory increases of costs.

'It is in times like these, when the challenges are greater, that we need most to show our collective commitment to the Organization and its goals,' Graziano da Silva told the Conference. After successive budget reductions, FAO's budget had lost 27 percent of its real value in the last 20 years, he noted.

Graziano da Silva also stressed the need to find a consensus on a budget that would allow the Organization to implement the proposed programme of work for 2014-2015, his first as Director-General of FAO.

Transforming FAO

Addressing the FAO Conference, Graziano da Silva highlighted the work done in his first 18 months in office, focusing FAO's work around five new strategic objectives and a sixth technical objective, approving strategies for engagement with the private sector and civil society, as well as strengthening partnerships with scientific and research institutions, and concluding the FAO reform.

Recalling the McDougall lecture with which Professor Amartya Sen opened the Conference on Saturday, the Director-General pointed out one important change in the work of the Organization.

'If we keep looking at hunger simply in terms of food production, we will not solve this problem, as Professor Amartya Sen reminded us…The world already produces enough food. The main cause of hunger nowadays is the lack of access,' said Graziano da Silva.

'Nowadays, to guarantee food security, it is essential to incorporate the access dimension into our responses, alongside our continued support to sustainably increasing food production,' he explained.

The Director-General also highlighted the increased efficiency of the Organization, which has led to savings of nearly 45 million dollars since his election. This, in turn, has made it possible to strengthen FAO's technical presence in the field and implement six regional initiatives responding to the needs identified by Members at the FAO Regional Conferences held in 2012.

'All this will help translate our work into better results where it really matters: at the country level, transforming FAO into a true knowledge Organization with its feet on the ground,' he stressed.

Commitment to eradicating hunger

The Director-General pointed out that the Conference will also be asked to approve a change in the first global goal of the Organization, aiming for the eradication, rather than the reduction of hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition.

'It is just a word, but it makes a great difference,' he said.

'The eradication of hunger and malnutrition will pay a large dividend in terms of peace and prosperity, from which all countries stand to benefit. And it is a crucial part of the sustainable future we want.'

The Conference opened on Saturday with the annual McDougall Lecture delivered by Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, who focused on the need for a broader approach to fight hunger, and the delivery of FAO awards, among them to the Self Employed Women's Association of India and the European Commission, represented by its President José Manuel Barroso, for their contribution to food security.

On Sunday, countries that have already met the Millennium Development and World Food Summit hunger targets had their achievements recognized at FAO.

— WebWireID176119 —

Agriculture / Aquaculture

Business Announcements

Health Care / Hospitals

Not for profit

Supplementary Medicine / Nutrition

WebWire® | More Feeds

Seven Spanish brands present an exclusive catwalk show at the famous kidswear exhibition.

The 77th Pitti Bimbo will take place from 27 to 29 June at the iconic Fortezza da Basso in Florence.

An event running parallel to the prestigious Florence exhibition will add to the appeal of an attractive exhibition schedule. For the second year running, an exclusive show dedicated to Spanish kidswear will make Bóboli, Barcarola, Cóndor, Desigual, Losán, Mayoral and Pan con Chocolate the stars at the second day of Pitti Bimbo.

At 10 a.m. on Friday 28 June, six brands — all top international names — will take the Sala Rondino of the Fortezza da Basso exhibition centre by storm, brandishing outfits which combine talent with design, quality, comfort and fun, all in kid's size.

The edition will showcase Summer 2014 collections, which Spanish brands have interpreted in a rich mixture of different codes: ethnic and tropical, Hippy Cool, Safari, Hawaii in the 1950s and Street Wear in vitamin colours. There are also updated preppy looks and silhouettes inspired by the Mediterranean. A rebellious, vibrant and deeply-pigmented colour palette rubs shoulders with pastel shades, turquoise and navy.

Considered the best global showcase in the sector, Pitti Bimbo confirms and ratifies the global reputation that Spanish fashion has earned for itself, offering a unique opportunity for companies to strengthen and consolidate their brand image.

Spain has a strong showing at Pitti Immagine Bimbo, and will this year have 22 kidswear exhibitors representing a total of 26 brands.

These include Ágatha R. de la Prada, Bóboli, Mayoral, Nanos, Cóndor, Pan con Chocolate, Desigual, Nice Things Mini, Fina Ejerique, Paz Rodriguez and Barcarola in the textiles segment, and León Shoes, Cuquito, Eli, Pretty Ballerinas and Unisa in footwear. The brands see taking part in Pitti Bimbo as crucial to their international ambitions. Their collections come under scrutiny from the world's top buyers and they claim that participation brings substantial commercial and economic benefits.

Pitti Bimbo brings together 460 brands in an area of more than 47,000sqm. At the last edition, the exhibition received more than 10,000 trade visitors from 80 countries, both buyers and opinion leaders.

To strengthen the image of Spanish children's wear, some leading brands have featured in advertising inserts in prestigious Italian fashion magazines like Vogue Bambini, Bambini Collezione and 0-3 Baby.

Italy is the biggest market for Spanish textiles experts. In 2012, this market accounted for almost a quarter of Spain's total sales in the sector, worth more than €100 mill.

— WebWireID176106 —

Business Announcements

Entertainment

Fashion / Appeal

Textiles

Youth / Children

WebWire® | More Feeds

Only 18 states seek to limit use of drones by non-law enforcement personnel

Eagan, Minn. – Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles, have been a hotly debated topic in the political arena leading to proposed or enacted legislation in 43 states, according to WestlawNext, the nation's leading online legal research service.

The data researched and compiled from WestlawNext through May 25, 2013, highlights the wide variation in legislation. States are looking to better define what a drone is, who can and cannot operate or use them, and how they can be used. Common issues surrounding drones include privacy, use by law enforcement and emergency exceptions, among others.

As legislation around drones continues to increase, there currently are just seven states, along with the District of Columbia, that do not have any proposed legislation surrounding drones.

Here is a breakdown of what states have enacted or are currently proposing:

    • 39 states have laws or bills addressing search warrants for law enforcement's use of drones.
• 18 states have laws or bills that limit use of drones for surveillance by non-law enforcement personnel.
• 17 states have laws or bills that prohibit weaponized drones.
• 16 states have laws or bills for criminal penalties for violation of their proposed or enacted statutes relating to drones.
• 20 states have laws or bills for a private right of action by individuals aggrieved by violations of drone rules.
• 17 states have laws or bills providing exceptions for drone use in case of emergencies.

Among the unique attributes of current drone legislation:

    • Virginia has proposed legislation to make it unlawful to use a drone to 'impede the lawful hunting of wild birds or wild animals.'
• At least three states, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia, have called for the investigation of, or express concern for, the authorized use of drones against U.S. citizens by the U.S. government.
• Some states, such as Nevada, Ohio, Texas and Washington, are encouraging the development of drone technology within their borders.
• At least two states, Nevada and Washington, noted tax incentives or abatements in their legislation for aircraft businesses or the aerospace industry. The legislature in Nevada also endorsed 'the promotion of efforts to support the establishment of Nevada as the "Silicon Valley" of unmanned aircraft systems education, testing, research and manufacture.'
• A Massachusetts bill specifically prohibits use of drones to 'collect or maintain information about the political, religious or social views, associations or activities of any individual.'

'There are a number of issues surfaced by the various legislation, but clearly privacy and public safety top the list,' said Michael Carlson, reference attorney at Thomson Reuters. 'The wide-ranging points of legislation demonstrate multiple views, perceived opportunities and a variety of concerns surrounding the use and development of drones.'

The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, in coordination with agencies and aviation industry representatives, has been tasked to develop rules and regulations surrounding drone usage. The mandate from Congress includes many recommendations, including: a focus on acceptable standards of operation and certification of drones; ensuring specific drones include a sense-and-avoid capability; and creating standards and requirements for pilots and operators of drones, including registration and licensing requirements.
