WARREN COUNTY, NJ: Warren County boasts more preserved farms than any other county in New Jersey making it a haven of gentle hills and idyllic views. Dotted with historic buildings, bridges and homes, it is a respite from the rushed pace of daily life. This becomes evident when you take a leisurely ride from one Warren County winery to another or sit and relax on the deck and look out over the vineyards with a backdrop of rivers and rolling hills.

A portion of the western part of the county along the Delaware and Musconetcong rivers and their tributaries has been designated by the federal government as a wine grape growing region – Warren Hills American Viticultural Area (AVA). The soils and terrain of this part of the county are very suitable for French-American hybrid grapes like Cayuga, Seyval Blanc, Chambourcin and Leon Millot.

According to Bob Matarazzo, owner of Four Sisters Winery, being able to grow French American varietals allows him to produce superior Leon Millot and Seyval Blanc. The Frontenac grape is a popular favorite for blending with Warren Hills Red, hence Warren Hills Viticulture area. Many of these blends bring the fruit forward, some with a crisp finish and balanced acidity.

At Brook Hollow Winery in Columbia owner Paul Ritter recently added 5 additional acres to his vineyards. Noiret and Traminette – a red and a white grape – were two grapes chosen for this new vineyard. Each grape was developed at the New York State Agricultural Experimental Station in Geneva at Cornell University.
Both hybrids demonstrate good cold hardiness for the area and provide excellent fruit structure desired from Paul looking to add to the quality dry wines he produces.

Using sustainable and organic practices, Villa Milagro Vineyards grows vinifera –varieties of grapes that thrive in Europe and California. Unlike hybrid created specifically for these condition, vinifera struggle with the shorter number of growing days, cold winters and moist summers of the East Coast.

Villa Milagro Vineyards successfully grows seven of these varieties, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Sangiovese from which it makes European style blended wines. Its success is the result of limestone soils, which are well drained, wicking away summer rains that would damage vine roots and its gentle southern slope increasing the number of hours of sunlight exposure during the day.

Agriculture is a way of life out in these parts and is celebrated each year at the Warren County Farmers' Fair. The fair kicks off the Saturday before August 1 and runs through the following Saturday. The event features a Hot Air Balloon Festival that has also become an event the community looks forward to experiencing

To promote its agriculture and vineyards, the three wineries are offering an opportunity to win a Hot Air Balloon Ride during the Warren County Farmers' Fair, July 27 – August 3, 2013. Visit all three –Brook Hollow Winery, Four Sisters Winery and Villa Milagro Vineyards – and your name will be put into a drawing to win.

Pick up your card at any of the three wineries and be sure to visit each one for your official stamp.

Visit www.vintagenorthjersey.com for more trails and events along the Vintage North Jersey Wine Trail. Supported in part by a grant from New Jersey Department of State, Division of Travel and Tourism, www.visitnj.org.

Amsterdam, – Heineken N.V. ('HEINEKEN') today announced that it has entered into a local joint venture agreement with privately-owned Alliance Brewery Company Ltd (ABC) to brew and sell HEINEKEN beers in Myanmar. ABC is majority-owned by Aung Moe Kyaw, a local entrepreneur and established leader in the spirits industry. The new joint venture company, APB Alliance Brewery Company Limited, which will build a new greenfield brewery in the country, has been approved by the Myanmar Investment Committee (MIC).

Under the terms of the agreement, HEINEKEN, through its subsidiary Asia Pacific Breweries Limited, will have a controlling 57 percent stake in the new joint venture company and be responsible for overall management, providing brewing and technical expertise, procurement of ingredients and the licensing of brands.

The brewery will be located near the country's capital Yangon and is expected to be operational by the end of 2014. The joint venture company plans to invest US$60 million in the brewery, create more than 400 jobs and brew leading brands, including Heineken®.

The new company will implement HEINEKEN's global policies and approaches in relation to Employees and Human Rights, Supplier Code, local sourcing, water management, employee healthcare, community investment and responsible alcohol marketing.

HEINEKEN's announcement follows the European Union Council decision on 22nd April 2013 to lift all sanctions, with the exception of the embargo on arms. There is a growing recognition of the positive progress that Myanmar is making in terms of its political and social reforms. Through our investment, job creation and implementation of our global policies, I believe that we will support this process.'

Aung Moe Kyaw, Chairman, Alliance Brewery Company Ltd said: "We are excited by the prospect of working with a world class organisation such as HEINEKEN. We believe our knowledge and experience of the local market combined with the brewing and marketing know-how of HEINEKEN will deliver excellent products as well as attractive employment opportunities for the people of Myanmar."

Note to editors:
1. Companies that have recently announced plans to enter Myanmar include: PepsiCo (10th August 2012), The Coca-Cola Company (12th September 2012), Carlsberg (1st February 2013) and most recently Ford Motor Company (April 30th 2013).

Goya Foods Redesigns Marinades Line by Converting Glass to Lightweight PET

MANCHESTER, Mich., April 26, 2013 – Goya Foods Inc., based in Secaucus, N.J., the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the U.S. and a leader in Latin American food and condiments industries, has undertaken a major redesign of its marinade product line, converting 12oz (355ml) and 24.5oz (725ml) products from glass to lightweight polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles from Amcor Rigid Plastics, the world's leading producer of rigid plastic packaging.

Amcor's LatinAmerica custom designed hot fill containers, which also feature a newly designed shrink wrap label, boast an iconic shape that is highly attractive. The vibrant design was developed to promote a clean look that is both modern and elegant. The hot fill bottle delivers significant performance and cost advantages including portability, reduced breakage, and light weight, along with sustainability benefits such as recyclability, reduced transportation costs, and a significantly reduced carbon footprint.

With the new PET bottle design, Goya also offers consumers more marinade product by moving from a 705ml glass container to the 725ml PET bottle. Consumers are drawn to the attractive and lightweight features of the PET bottles which are easier to grip compared to traditional glass containers. The marinade containers also further extend Amcor's growing penetration in the food industry.

The use of PET in the 24.5oz (725ml) container results in a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 61.4% compared to glass, representing savings equivalent to annual GHG emissions from 313 passenger vehicles, according to Amcor. In addition, 24.5oz (725ml) PET bottles permit 52% more product to be shipped per truckload.

'In the end, lightweight PET not only delivered a major savings in terms of freight cost but also gave us the glass-like appearance and the shelf appeal to maintain our brand image,' explained Joseph Perez, senior vice president of Goya Foods.

Meanwhile, both PET bottles are the first to feature Amcor's new OrigamiTM hot fill technology which incorporates six flat panels to counteract vacuum that occurs in hot filled containers. The vacuum panels are designed to collapse, thus compensating for shrinkage during cooling to maintain structural strength and integrity. The flat surfaces create a modern, elegant profile which enhances gripping and consumer handling. A predominant neck adds to the bottles' uniqueness and improves pourability.

Both the 12oz and 24.5oz PET bottles are custom designed for both ambient fill (up to 140°F) and hot fill (up to 185°F) applications. They have a 38mm finish and are seamlessly integrated into existing glass filling lines with minimal adjustment, according to Perez. The marinade products, available in three varieties including Chipotle, Mojo, and Naranja Agria, are sold in supermarkets and club stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

Goya Foods also plans to replace glass with PET in an existing 12oz juice beverage line. The conversion to hot fill PET is expected by the summer, according to Perez.

This launch of 12oz and 24.5oz Origami designed hot fill containers further exemplifies Amcor's leadership role in the production of hot fill containers for the food industry. The company offers 16oz and 32oz hot fill family size decanters and 12oz 38mm ring neck style and 24oz 63mm wide mouth hot fill stock bottles for the food market. The company continues to focus on the development of new product offerings to meet the hot fill needs of food manufacturers.

Sirez Group, a new-age marketing services network providing end-to-end solutions in online and mobile space has entered the loyalty market with their latest offering: squarecoins.

squarecoins is a mobile based loyalty program that aims at gaining customer preference towards the brand by rewarding them on various occasions. All a user has to do is to check-in at a merchant venue using the mobile app. Multiple visits by a customer results in profitable transactions for the merchant; making it a win-win situation for both.

Customers can download the squarecoins app for Android, iOS and Blackberry platforms. The app comes loaded with a unique QR code for every user, which can be used across multiple devices. This QR code can be scanned at the squarecoins kiosk at various outlets, shops, food joints & recreational hubs for customized gratification that ranges from earning loyalty coins to getting freebies for each scan.

The app not just creates a rewarding experience for the customer, but also empowers the merchant by providing important information about the customer's usage behavior and buying patterns.

The app provides the merchants with a Dashboard, which can be used to create tailor-made offers for the customers, making the app experience unique across each touch point.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. C.V.V.S Krishna, MD – Sirez Group explains, 'India is a highly competitive market, be it product or a service. Merchants need to create unique experience, which can work as a pull for the otherwise impatient and experimentative target group. We are quite positive that squarecoins will empower the merchants with such a unique brand experience, bringing in returning business and customer loyalty. We are hopeful that squarecoins will soon emerge as one of the preferred loyalty program across Merchants in the country.'

STIRLING (www.stirlingcocktails.com) has launched the first curated-set of ingredients to make bartender-inspired cocktails at home. Taking a page from popular food start-ups Blue Apron and Plated, STIRLING delivers pre-portioned ingredients like bitters and syrups with the click of a mouse.

Founded by a team of Harvard Business School students, STIRLING is targeting the $20 billion that Americans spend on spirits each year. Co-Founder Dave West says 'STIRLING was inspired by a simple idea: people want to make the cocktails from their favorite bars, but don't know how. We change that, delivering the exact ingredients and step-by-step instructions.'

Dave West also said, 'We know making a great cocktail is much harder than it sounds. That's why we've been working with renowned mixologist, Jonathan Pogash, to make our cocktails both delicious and simple.'

With the help of Jonathan Pogash, the self-proclaimed 'cocktail guru' (www.thecocktailguru.com), STILING has stumbled on a truly unique opportunity. While making cocktails at home was once an exhausting process, including finding a recipe and all the specialty bitters and syrups, STIRLING has made it easy and fun.

STIRLING Co-Founder Ryan Miller also says 'What makes STIRLING different is that we source ingredients directly from suppliers. That means our 'cocktail box' is less expensive than the sum of all the ingredients at retail.'

With interest building in the Boston-area, STIRLING is excited to introduce its first four cocktail boxes, including 'The Perfect Storm' for rum, 'The Sweet Chattahoochee' for gin, and the 'Berry Splash' for champagne.

We're even more excited to watch this young company grow, while we'll sit back and relax with a STIRLING-inspired 'Lavender-Ginger Gimlet'. Cheers!

_____________________
STIRLING Cocktails delivers all the ingredients you need to make delightful cocktails at home. Based in Boston, MA, the company was founded by Harvard Business School students in January 2013. For more information, visit www.stirlingcocktails.com

— WebWireID174173 —

Beer, Wine and Spirits

Electronic / Internet Commerce

Food / Beverages

Lifestyle / Society

Multimedia / Online / Internet

WebWire® | More Feeds

The mojito sends rum sales soaring as UK's favourite new spirit

The incredible popularity of the mojito cocktail has sent rum sales soaring to overtake vodka as the UK's fastest growing spirit.

For years vodka has held its own because it mixes so well with cola or juices such as cranberry or orange. But latest retail sales data reveals that rum is now the tipple of choice for a growing number of Brits with sales at Tesco soaring by 22 per cent – far higher than any other spirit.

So popular is the spirit that it has even replaced champagne in the Office of National Statistics in the shopping basket of what goods consumers typically buy.

Tesco now sells an astonishing 45 different varieties. It has doubled its range in the last three years.

Tesco spirits buyer Kate Evans said: 'The mojito has become the most popular cocktail in the world but with the high price of a night out on the town more Brits are now making their own at home.

'Rum is an extremely versatile spirit – not only in cocktails but also with long drinks mixed with cola and orange. Add that to the current trend for cocktails in general and you have reasons for the current boom.

'Rum hasn't been in such high demand since the 60s when rum and coke, or Cuba libre to give it its proper name, was the drink of choice.

'Other rum based cocktails which are extremely popular in bars across Britain now are the daiquiri, dark and stormy, planter's punch, mai tai, zombie and of course the evergreen pina colada.'

It's not only Tesco that's seeing strong growth for rum. Retail analysts Kantar Worldpanel report that in the last year sales of rum across all UK retailers have grown by four per cent – faster than any other spirit.

There are several types of rum, from dark to light, golden to spiced, flavoured, overproof, and premium.

But out of all of these it is golden rum that is driving the current boom because it is considered the most versatile when it comes to mixing cocktails.

Kate Evans added: 'There are many fine rums out there that are hard to find outside of specialist retailers and we believe the current trend will lead to a widening of the market with more choice available in each of the different rum categories.'

The UK's top selling rums are as follows:

    Bacardi

    Captain Morgan (Dark)

    Morgans Spiced (Golden Spiced)

   Havana Club (Golden)

   Sailor Jerry (Golden Spiced)
