AMBERLEY, Queensland -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] today delivered F-111 A08-135 to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) at a ceremony at RAAF Base Amberley. The jet is the 28th and final F-111 serviced by Boeing under the Deeper Maintenance program.

"Today is exceptionally historic because we are delivering A08-135 from the same Hangar 278 where Deeper Maintenance work on the first F-111 began 35 years ago," said John Duddy, vice president and managing director, Boeing Defence Australia. "We take pause to honor and recognize every RAAF serviceperson and Boeing employee who has contributed toward maintaining this platform. Because of you, the F-111 today remains the fastest and longest-ranging combat aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region."

The Deeper Maintenance program began in 1974 with the RAAF and transitioned to Boeing in 2001 for a total 500,000-plus work hours. The RAAF will retire the F-111 at the end of 2010 to make way for 24 replacement Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornets.

"The maintenance systems introduced with the F-111 aircraft have been a mainstay of defense and industry's high-tech support capabilities for well over 35 years," said Air Commodore Roy McPhail, Director General of Aerospace Combat Systems, RAAF. "Today's completion of the F-111 Deeper Maintenance program will ensure the F-111 fleet remains fully capable until the replacement F/A-18F Super Hornets come on line."

Boeing is contracted to perform light maintenance activities until the F-111 fleet's withdrawal from service.

"Although this is the end of Boeing's F-111 Deeper Maintenance activities, fortunately, it's not the end of a great partnership," said Group Capt. Peter Lloyd, Officer Commanding – 82 Wing, RAAF. "Boeing's technical and engineering expertise will remain fundamental to 82 Wing's ability to generate F-111 air combat power."

Deeper Maintenance was performed on F-111s after 525 hours of flight time. It included activities such as removal of wings, engines, the undercarriage and other major components for servicing and/or replacement as required.

Boeing Defence Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company and a business unit of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems, is a leading Australian aerospace enterprise. With a world-class team of nearly 2,000 employees at 13 locations throughout Australia and two international sites, Boeing Defence Australia supports some of the largest and most complex defense projects in Australia.

A unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is one of the world's largest space and defense businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions, and the world's largest and most versatile manufacturer of military aircraft. Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is a $32 billion business with 70,000 employees worldwide.

— WebWireID107013 —

Aerospace / Defense

Airlines / Aviation

Government

Homeland Security

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Increases 2009 Adjusted EBITDA Guidance Completes Renewal of Vacation Ownership Receivables Conduit Facility
PARSIPPANY, N.J..- Wyndham Worldwide Corporation NYSE:WYN) today announced results for the three months ended September 30, 2009.
HIGHLIGHTS:

    * Wyndham Worldwide generated diluted adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.58, compared with Company-issued guidance of $0.53 - $0.57. Reported EPS was $0.57.
* The Company raises full-year 2009 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $775 - $825 million, compared with prior guidance of $760 - $810 million.
* For the nine months ended September 30, 2009, the Company generated net cash from operating activities of approximately $570 million, compared with $146 million in 2008.
* Wyndham Worldwide recently completed two term securitization transactions totaling $350 million.
* The Company announces the renewal of its asset-backed vacation ownership receivables conduit. The 364-day facility bears interest at variable commercial paper rates plus a spread with a capacity of $600 million.

'Wyndham Worldwide delivered solid results in the third quarter, once again demonstrating the benefits of a strong, resilient business model and excellent execution' said Stephen P. Holmes, chairman and CEO, Wyndham Worldwide. 'We continue to transform the Company by rebalancing our worldwide business portfolio to increase the contribution of fee-for-service businesses and drive strong cash flow.'
THIRD QUARTER 2009 COMPANY OPERATING RESULTS

Third quarter revenues of $1,016 million declined by 17% from the prior-year period due to the previously announced initiative to reduce the deployment of capital in the Company's vacation ownership business; continued weakness in the global lodging industry; and unfavorable foreign exchange rate movements which negatively impacted the Company's exchange and rentals business.

Net income for the third quarter of 2009 was $104 million, or $0.57 diluted EPS, compared with third quarter 2008 net income of $142 million, or $0.80 diluted EPS.

Adjusted net income for the third quarter of 2009 was $106 million, or $0.58 diluted adjusted EPS, compared with third quarter 2008 adjusted net income of $148 million, or $0.83 diluted adjusted EPS. Third quarter 2009 includes the after-tax impact of $2 million, or $0.01 diluted EPS, of legacy items. Third quarter 2008 net income includes the after-tax impact of $6 million, or $0.03 diluted EPS, of restructuring costs and legacy items.
THIRD QUARTER 2009 BUSINESS UNIT RESULTS

Wyndham Hotel Group
Revenues were $183 million in the third quarter of 2009, a decline of 14% compared with the third quarter of 2008, primarily reflecting a decline in worldwide RevPAR.

Third quarter 2009 system-wide RevPAR decreased 17.0%, reflecting declines of 16.0% and 21.9% in domestic and international RevPAR, respectively.

Third quarter 2009 EBITDA was $58 million compared with $72 million in the third quarter of 2008, which included $4 million of restructuring costs. The reduction in EBITDA reflects the decline in worldwide RevPAR and other franchise fees, partly offset by lower marketing expenses.

As of September 30, 2009, the Company's hotel system consisted of approximately 7,040 properties and 590,900 rooms, of which 21% were international. The development pipeline included approximately 1,000 hotels and 110,800 rooms, of which 50% were new construction and 41% were international.

Wyndham Exchange and Rentals
The Company has renamed Group RCI to Wyndham Exchange and Rentals to more accurately reflect the two very profitable fee-based businesses where Wyndham Worldwide has leadership positions.

Revenues were $327 million in the third quarter of 2009, an 8% decrease compared with the third quarter of 2008, primarily resulting from the impact of unfavorable foreign currency movements. Excluding the impact of foreign currency, revenues were flat.

Excluding the impact of foreign currency annual dues and exchange revenues were flat compared with the third quarter of 2008, reflecting a 3% increase in the average number of members and a 3% decline in revenue per member. Including the impact of foreign currency, revenues were $110 million, a 4% decrease from the prior year period.

Excluding the impact of foreign currency vacation rental revenues increased $5 million, or 3%, compared with the third quarter of 2008, primarily driven by a 2% increase in rental transaction volume and a 1% increase in average price per vacation rental. Including the impact of foreign currency, revenues were $185 million, a 7% decrease from the prior year period.

Third quarter 2009 EBITDA increased 2% to $107 million, compared with $105 million in the third quarter of 2008, which included $2 million of restructuring costs. Excluding an unfavorable net effect of foreign currency of $14 million and restructuring costs, adjusted EBITDA would have increased $14 million, or 13%, from the third quarter of 2008, primarily reflecting cost savings.

Wyndham Vacation Ownership
Gross Vacation Ownership Interest (VOI) sales were $366 million for the third quarter of 2009, a 35% decline from the third quarter of 2008. This decrease was primarily driven by the previously announced initiative to reduce the capital deployed in this business, which included sales office closures and a reduction of marketing efforts that resulted in fewer tours.

Total segment revenues were $508 million in the third quarter of 2009, down 23% from the third quarter of 2008, primarily reflecting the planned reduction in tour flow which was partially offset by a 25% increase in volume per guest and a $38 million favorable impact from the percentage-of-completion (POC) method of accounting from the third quarter of 2008. Under the POC method of accounting for the sale of vacation ownership interests, the Company recognized $36 million of previously deferred revenue during the third quarter of 2009, while third quarter 2008 reported revenues were reduced by $2 million of deferred revenue.

EBITDA for the third quarter of 2009 was $104 million, down 19% from the third quarter of 2008, reflecting the net impact of the planned reduction of VOI sales volume, partially offset by an $18 million impact from the net increase in the recognition of revenue previously deferred under the POC method of accounting.

Other Items
Net interest expense in the third quarter of 2009 was $33 million, a $14 million increase from the third quarter of 2008 due to higher interest rates, primarily reflecting the impact of the long-term debt issuances in May 2009, the proceeds of which were used to reduce revolving credit facility borrowings and lower capitalized interest.
Balance Sheet Information as of September 30, 2009:

    * Cash and cash equivalents of approximately $170 million compared with $135 million from December 31, 2008
* Vacation ownership contract receivables, net, of $3.1 billion compared with $3.3 billion at December 31, 2008
* Vacation ownership and other inventory of $1.3 billion unchanged from December 31, 2008
* Securitized vacation ownership debt of $1.6 billion compared with $1.8 billion at December 31, 2008
* Other debt of $2.0 billion, unchanged from December 31, 2008; remaining borrowing capacity on the revolving credit facility was approximately $850 million compared with approximately $290 million as of December 31, 2008

A schedule of debt is included in the financial tables section of this press release.

Guidance
For the fourth quarter of 2009, the Company expects adjusted EPS of $0.35 - $0.38, based on weighted average shares of 184 million.

The Company updates full-year 2009 guidance:

    * Revenues of $3.5 – $3.9 billion
* The Company now expects adjusted EBITDA of $775 – $825 million, compared with prior guidance of $760 – $810 million.

'For full year 2010, we expect that revenue and adjusted EBITDA will be consistent with the current guidance ranges for 2009. We believe this reflects significant strength in our business, given that 2009 results will benefit from approximately $90 million of EBITDA related to vacation ownership deferred revenue roll-in that will be absent in 2010,' said Mr. Holmes. Management also expects that interest expense will be higher than 2009 levels due to financings completed in 2009 and lower capitalized interest in 2010.

The guidance reflects assumptions used for internal planning purposes. All guidance excludes legacy items and restructuring costs, if any, which may have a positive or negative impact on reported results. If economic conditions improve or deteriorate materially from current levels, these assumptions and our guidance may change materially. It is not practicable to provide a reconciliation of forecasted adjusted EBITDA to the most directly comparable GAAP measure because certain items cannot be reasonably estimated or predicted at this time. Any such items could be significant to our financial results.

Conference Call Information
Wyndham Worldwide Corporation will provide a webcast of its conference call to discuss the Company's third quarter 2009 financial results on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. EDT. Listeners can access the webcast live through the company's website at www.wyndhamworldwide.com/investors/. The conference call also may be accessed by dialing (800) 369-1776 and providing the pass code "Wyndham." Listeners are urged to call at least 10 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. An archive of this webcast will be available at the website for approximately 90 days beginning at 12:00 p.m. EDT on October 28, 2009. A telephone replay will be available at (888) 473-0114 beginning at 12:00 p.m. EDT on October 28, 2009, until 5:00 p.m. EST on December 13, 2009.

Presentation of Financial Information
Financial information discussed in this press release includes both GAAP and non- GAAP measures, which include or exclude certain items. These non-GAAP measures differ from reported results and are intended to illustrate what management believes are relevant period-over-period comparisons. A complete reconciliation of reported GAAP results to the comparable non-GAAP information appears in the financial tables section of the press release.

— WebWireID106638 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Travel Industry

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Twenty-year outlook for efficient, environmentally progressive airplanes is strong

SYDNEY.- Boeing [NYSE: BA] forecasts that over the next 20 years, airlines in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific Islands will require 670 new airplanes valued at approximately US$90 billion.

Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President of Marketing Randy Tinseth shared the company's market data and forecast today at a media conference focused on the global and Oceania commercial airplane market.

Globally, airlines will need 29,000 new airplanes through 2028, valued at US$3.2 trillion.

'It is encouraging that 27 percent of our 20-year forecast already is on order,' Tinseth said. 'Equally important is that this backlog is well balanced -- by type of airplane, by airline business model, and region of the world.'

Tinseth noted that as of the third quarter of 2009, Boeing had a backlog of 3,400 airplanes, valued at US$254 billion.

Airlines and the aviation industry in general have been hurt by a challenging and volatile business environment, Tinseth said. The world economy has been in recession, passenger and cargo traffic have declined, and fuel prices are volatile.

'But data indicates that the economic downturn has reached bottom and recovery has begun,' Tinseth said. 'Global recovery will be a long, slow process, and airlines will continue to adapt to the realities of the market.'

The Australian economy has fared better than the rest of the world, Tinseth noted, growing while most of the world dipped well below 2008 levels. Global recovery to the 2008 peak won't occur until perhaps 2010, he said.

'Economic conditions obviously affect air travel in the region,' Tinseth said. 'Oceania air travel growth is expected to be above five percent, compared to a world average growth of 4.9 percent.'

Sixty-seven percent of Oceania's commercial airplane deliveries through 2028 will be for growth, Tinseth said. The remainder of airplane deliveries will replace older, less efficient airplanes.

Looking at the Asia Pacific region in its entirety, long-term air annual air traffic growth is projected to be 6.9 percent over the next 20 years, Tinseth added.

In the near term, airlines have adapted to the realities of the market by adjusting capacity, improving efficiency and restructuring, he said. In the longer term, airlines will continue to invest in more efficient, environmentally progressive airplanes that also serve the travel patterns of air travelers with their ability to fly to more places more often.

'Boeing is focused on a simple strategy,' Tinseth said. 'And that is to provide our customers with airplanes that are the right size with the right capabilities at the right time.'

— WebWireID106625 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

EASA certifies "Brake To Vacate" (BTV) and "Runway Overrun Warning & Prevention" (ROW/ROP) systems on the Airbus A380

Improving runway turnaround time and reducing runway excursion risk at landing - - Following recent successful development testing, "Brake-To-Vacate" (BTV) and "Runway Overrun Warning and Prevention" (...

Improving runway turnaround time and reducing runway excursion risk at landing

Following recent successful development testing, "Brake-To-Vacate" (BTV) and "Runway Overrun Warning and Prevention" (ROW/ROP) have both been approved and certified for the Airbus A380 by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). BTV is an Airbus innovation in pilot aid to ease airport congestion and improve runway turnaround time, and ROW/ROP addresses runway excursion risk at landing. Both BTV and ROW/ROP are patented by Airbus.

1. Brake-to-Vacate (BTV) overview
BTV was designed by a transnational team in Toulouse, France and Filton, England. By harnessing the power of the A380's integral GPS and airport database based On-Board Airport Navigation System (OANS) combined with the Auto-Flight and Auto-Brake facilities, BTV gives pilots real-time visibility on realistic braking distances to reach their preferred exit. It also allows in-flight operational landing distance assessment during landing preparation. When the pilot chooses a runway exit point, the system indicates the estimated runway occupancy time and the minimum turnaround time. During the subsequent landing phase, and according to encountered runway conditions (i.e. 'wet' or 'dry'), the aircraft's deceleration is automatically regulated so it reaches the chosen exit at the correct speed. BTV benefits operators in the following additional ways: by lowering overall braking energy requirements and temperatures (thus reducing brake-wear); relieving maximum thrust-reverser usage on dry runways; respecting passengers' comfort (through regulated smooth deceleration); reducing noise, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions; enabling air traffic control to schedule up to 15 percent more aircraft departures; enabling airlines to maximise the number of aircraft rotations; and reducing the exposure time to a runway incursion risk (by minimising runway occupancy time).

2. Included function: Runway Overrun Warning (ROW) & Runway Overrun Prevention (ROP)
The complementary ROW/ROP system computes realistic operational landing distances and compares them to the available landing distance in real time, while accommodating factors including: aircraft velocity, position, altitude and weight; runway conditions; ambient temperature and wind; and runway elevation. The "ROW" forewarns the pilot, either, if the aircraft is approaching a runway which is deemed 'too short', or, if the remaining runway length becomes too short (e.g. if a 'late' touchdown point is predicted due to unstable approach conditions). In such cases following the ROW warning, the mandatory procedure for the pilot is to perform a 'go-around' for another approach attempt onto a runway with sufficient length. However, if another approach is not possible (for example in an emergency), the pilot may instead take an overriding decision to continue landing on the 'too short' runway. This is one example where the 'ROP' protection would automatically be activated to bring the aircraft to a stop in the shortest possible distance using full braking power, and with maximum reverse thrust if required. Note: the pilot has the authority to disengage ROP at any time.

BTV and ROW/ROP were first trialled on an A340-600 in 2004, and on the A380 in May 2008. The recent approval and certification by EASA paves the way for their introduction on the A380 with launch customers Air France and Lufthansa. BTV & ROW/ROP will also be a standard feature of the forthcoming A350 XWB aircraft.

— WebWireID106605 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

INDIANTOWN, Florida, Oct. 27 2009 – General Aviation pilots can see an introduction to Emergency Maneuver Training. General Aviation TV On-Line (GATV) located in Ft Pierce, Fl., has completed a video featuring aerial maneuvers used to safely extricate an airplane from emergency situations. Filmed over the ocean shoreline above Ft Pierce, Florida in October 209, this video is meant to inform pilots about the availability and content of Emergency Maneuver Training. The video begins on the ground with a discussion about emergency maneuvers and concludes with video and audio from the cockpit during emergency maneuvers.

The GATV video is meant to be instructive to general aviation pilots, flight instructors, student pilots and other persons interested in flying airplanes. The video was produced as an opportunity for Dave East of GATV together with Jim Alsip of Dylan Aviation to educate pilots about the availability and importance of receiving Emergency Maneuver Training. Their message to pilots is that, in a flying emergency, he or she will react the way they trained.

During the video, Dave and Jim discuss the Emergency Maneuvers Training syllabus offered at Dylan Aviation Aerobatic Flight School. Jim Alsip makes the point that studies show almost all aviation loss of control accidents involve a turn; and so, The Emergency Maneuver Course begins with the anatomy of a turn, reviews several advanced flying skills and concludes with flying emergencies and best practices for the resolution of those emergencies.

At the conclusion of the video, Dave East and Jim Alsip encourage interested viewers to get more information about Emergency Maneuvers, Aerobatic training, Spin and Upset recovery or Tail Wheel training by visiting the Dylan Aviation web site. Dylan Aviation is located at Indiantown Airport (X58) Indiantown Fl.

The GATV video on Emergency Maneuvers can be viewed on line during the month of November at www.gatvonline.com. Dave encourages viewers to visit that web site frequently to see other features about general aviation. GATV can also be seen Wednesday nights at 10 pm on several broadcast channels that include channel 44 out of West Palm Beach and Miami Fl.

— WebWireID106558 —

Airlines / Aviation

Multimedia / Online / Internet

Television

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Strategic Network Expansion in the Americas, Asia and Europe. New York/Newark Becomes New Star Alliance Hub

NEW YORK CITY, USA - The CEOs of the Star Alliance member carriers today welcomed the alliance's 25th member: Continental Airlines. Continental's joining Star Alliance will further enhance the alliance's three main customer benefits: global reach, worldwide recognition and seamless travel. Continental's membership follows last year's announcement of a strategic partnership between Continental and United Airlines. Experts from both airlines and Star Alliance have been working together over the last 18 months in order to ensure the first successful transition of a major airline from one global alliance to another.

'Bringing Continental Airlines into Star Alliance has been a truly unique experience. This is the first time an airline has moved directly from one alliance to another and I would like to thank all those involved in ensuring a smooth switch,' said Jaan Albrecht, CEO Star Alliance. 'Our travellers can now begin to appreciate the advantages Continental brings to the Star Alliance network, while Continental's customers now enjoy enhanced alliance benefits.'

'Continental's transition to Star Alliance is one of the most important strategic moves we have accomplished in my career at Continental,' said Chairman and CEO Larry Kellner. 'Our membership in Star Alliance positions us to deliver a broader network to our customers, and to achieve better business results and a stronger future for my co-workers, our customers and communities as a result of the benefits from participating in the world's largest airline alliance.'

'Continental's joining makes the Star Alliance network even more extensive, offering our customers the broadest global access and greatest choice of service,' said Glenn Tilton, chairman and CEO of United Airlines. 'We welcome our partner, Continental, which brings tremendous value to our customers, our employees and the communities we serve.'

Global Reach
Due to the limited overlap between Continental's and Star Alliance's networks, Star Alliance customers now have a choice of 19,500 daily flights serving some 1,071 airports in 171 countries. The main network enhancements are taking place in North America, to and from Latin America, as well as across the North Atlantic and the Pacific.

In North America, Continental adds its three hubs – New York/Newark, Houston and Cleveland – to the network, providing more choice to Star Alliance customers. Continental's extensive Latin America network will increase travel options for Star Alliance customers to Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

Across the North Atlantic, Continental will also add choice for Star Alliance travellers, especially on the very important New York to London market. Options in the Pacific region are enhanced by Continental's trans-Pacific flights to mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan, and by Continental Micronesia flights centered on Guam.

In addition to the network benefits, Continental flights can now be used to create itineraries for the Star Alliance Round the World fare as well as for the North American Airpass. Moreover, Continental will sell all 13 Star Alliance fare products and as well as participate in the Star Alliance Conventions Plus product.

Worldwide Recognition
As part of its Star Alliance membership, Continental OnePass members will now be able to earn and redeem miles on all other Star Alliance member carriers. OnePass Gold and Platinum Elite members automatically have Star Alliance Gold Status, and will receive benefits such as access to more than 954 lounges, extra-baggage allowance, priority baggage delivery, dedicated check-in counters and priority waitlist (reservation) and airport stand-by. OnePass Silver Elite have automatic Star Alliance Silver Status, entitling them to priority waitlist (reservation) and airport stand-by.
Participants in any of the existing Star Alliance Frequent Flyer Programmes can now earn and redeem miles on Continental. Moreover, OnePass members will be able to use their miles as part of Star Alliance Upgrade Awards for a one cabin upgrade when travelling on participating* Star Alliance member carriers.

Seamless travel
The Star Alliance network aims to provide fast and convenient connections for customers needing to transfer between flights of different Star Alliance member carriers. Effective immediately, through check-in from the originating airport is available for any itinerary involving a Continental flight in conjunction with another Star Alliance flight. In addition, all Star Alliance Connection Centres will now also encompass all flights operated by Continental. These special behind the scene centres look after passengers and baggage transferring between Star Alliance member carriers, in case of flight irregularities. These centres are currently in operation at selected airports across the network like, Frankfurt, Munich, Chicago, Los Angeles, Tokyo-Narita and Bangkok. Moreover, plans are already underway to co-locate member carriers in the same airport area or terminal at numerous destinations served by Continental. By the end of this year Continental will have physically moved airport operations at 11 airports around the world. For instance, on October 27, Continental moves to Terminal 1 at Frankfurt and on November 1, to the South Wing of Terminal 1 at Tokyo/Narita. Other airports where co-location moves have been made include: Beijing, Chicago, Honolulu and Shanghai.

About Star Alliance:
The Star Alliance network was established in 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance to offer worldwide reach, recognition and seamless service to international traveller. Its acceptance by the market has been recognised by numerous awards, including the Air Transport World Market Leadership Award, Best Airline Alliance by both Business Traveller Magazine and Skytrax. The member airlines are: Adria Airways, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Blue1, bmi, Continental Airlines, Croatia Airlines, EGYPTAIR, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI, United and US Airways. Aegean Airlines, Air India, Brussels Airlines and TAM have been announced as future members. Overall, the Star Alliance network offers 19,534 daily flights to 1,071 airports in 171 countries.

* the following member carriers currently offer Star Alliance Upgrade Awards: Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Continental Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Singapore Airlines, SWISS, TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, THAI and United

— WebWireID106555 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Retail

Travel Industry

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

94 new codeshare flights between and in the USA and Europe – Continental Airlines moves into Terminal 1 at Frankfurt – Mutual recognition of the partners' frequent flyer programmes Miles & More and OnePass

Following today's official accession of US carrier Continental Airlines to Star Alliance, Lufthansa and Continental Airlines will now be able to offer their mutual customers a range of new benefits. From 31 October, for example, all Continental flights between the United States and Germany will also be bookable under a Lufthansa flight number. This applies to the services operated daily between Newark (New York) and Hamburg, Berlin Tegel and Frankfurt, as well as to the new route between Houston and Frankfurt, which Continental will launch on 2 November. In addition, Lufthansa customers will have a choice of convenient connections to 37 destinations in the United States via Continental's hubs at Newark and Houston.

Likewise, Lufthansa flights to Newark that are operated daily from Frankfurt, Munich and Dusseldorf will from now on also be offered under a Continental flight number. In addition, customers will be able to book flights from Frankfurt to a further 56 destinations in Germany and elsewhere in Europe under a Continental flight number. Today, Continental has relocated to Terminal 1 so as to be under one roof with Lufthansa and its Star Alliance partners, thereby ensuring faster and smoother transfers for passengers.

In the next step, starting on 17 December, Lufthansa will offer flights to a further 33 destinations on a codeshare basis with Continental. These include long-haul flights to Asia, the Middle East and Africa as well as other connecting flights to European destinations. From that date, Continental customers will also be able to transfer to Lufthansa or Lufthansa Italia at the following airports: Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin Tegel, Paris Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow and Milan Malpensa.

Now that Continental is a full member of Star Alliance, all Lufthansa passengers will also have access on Continental flights to products and benefits offered by the world's largest airline alliance such as lounge access for status customers. Additionally, members of Lufthansa's frequent flyer programme Miles & More and Continental's loyalty programme One Pass will be able to earn and redeem miles on all the partner airlines flights.

— WebWireID106540 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

Commercial Services

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Travel Industry

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

LAN Airlines S.A. and its subsidiaries, ("LAN" or "the Company") (NYSE: LFL / IPSA: LAN), one of the leading airlines in Latin America, has reported its preliminary monthly traffic statistics and punctuality indicators for September 2009.

System passenger traffic for September increased 11.9% as capacity rose 9.3%. As a result, the Company's load factor increased 1.8 points to 78.8%. International passenger traffic accounted for approximately 71% of total passenger traffic.

Domestic passenger traffic in Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador rose 17.5% as capacity increased 15.0%. As a consequence, the domestic load factor for the month increased 1.6 points to 77.0%. International passenger traffic for September rose 9.8% as capacity increased 7.1%. Accordingly, the international passenger load factor for the month increased 1.9 points to 79.6%. International capacity was mainly driven by an increase in operations on routes to Europe and the South Pacific, partially offset by a decrease on certain regional routes.

In line with the global decrease in the import and export markets, during the month of September cargo traffic decreased 8.0%. This decrease was mainly due to the slowdown in import and export markets in Latin America, as well as the reduction of salmon exports from Chile. In line with the decrease in demand, capacity fell 7.0%, mainly through the reduction of ACMI leases. The cargo load factor reached its highest level this year at 69.8%.

During September, 90.8% of the Company's total flights left on time based on a fifteen-minute standard (all departures leaving within fifteen minutes of the scheduled departure time are considered as "on-time"). This represented an increase of 2.1 points compared to September 2008.

About LAN
LAN Airlines is one of the leading passenger and cargo airlines in Latin America. The company and its affiliates serve over 65 destinations around the world including flights to South America, flights to Lima and flights to Chile through an extensive network across Latin America, while also linking North America, Europe, the South Pacific and 63 additional international destinations through its various alliances. LAN Airlines and its affiliates have a leading position in their respective domestic markets of Chile and Peru as well as an important presence in the Argentinean domestic market and has begun operations in the domestic market of Ecuador.

LAN Airlines and its affiliates operate 84 passenger aircraft, and its cargo subsidiary, LAN CARGO and its respective cargo affiliates, have a fleet of 11 dedicated freighters. The company recently completed its short haul fleet renovation process by acquiring new aircraft from the Airbus A320 family, enabling LAN to improve its efficiency and reduce its CO2 emissions. The fleet renovation is part of the company's commitment to the protection of the environment.

PR contact:
Elsa Martín
LAN Europe
Capitán Haya 1
28020, Madrid
Spain
0034 902 112 424
www.lan.com

— WebWireID106059 —

Airlines / Aviation

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Travel Industry

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Key Enhancements Include FANS 1/A Data Link, RNP-SAAAR With Honeywell Go Direct™ Services, FANS, WAAS-LPV and SV-PFD 2.0

Primus Epic® Based Cockpits Can Be Upgraded Overnight

NBAA, ORLANDO, Fla. -- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it has obtained Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification for new avionics functionality for current production Gulfstream aircraft.

The new capabilities include:

• Enhanced features for the industry-best Synthetic Vision–Primary Flight Display (SV-PFD), based on Honeywell's award-winning SmartView™ synthetic vision system,
• Future Air Navigation System (FANS 1/A),
• Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), and
• Wide Area Augmentation System-Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (WAAS-LPV).

With the additional features, current production Gulfstream G350, G450, G500 and G550 aircraft will be able to operate to Required Navigation Performance - Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required (RNP SAAAR) values of 0.1 nm separation (RNP 0.1).

The enhanced SV-PFD brings several new features to the best synthetic vision system in class, including the use of range rings, allowing the flight crew to naturally gauge the distance of terrain and obstacles from the aircraft, and high resolution runway detailing that allows the crew to clearly identify visually the runway they are taking off from, further reducing the risk of a runway incursion.

'These new avionics capabilities are designed to accommodate the planned features of the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NGATS) and Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) functionality, and are easily accommodated in PlaneView cockpits based on our Primus Epic technology because of the expandability and growth we built into the system,' said Rob Wilson, President, Business & General Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace. 'Honeywell's flight management systems will improve operating costs and air traffic management capabilities on business aviation aircraft, saving time and reducing emissions.'

The addition of WAAS-LPV approach capability will give these aircraft access to more than 1,300 WAAS approaches in the United States. The certification of the new production Gulfstream G350, G450, G500 and G550 aircraft to RNP SAAAR 0.1 capability will mark the first time any aircraft has ever achieved both the standard of RNP 0.1 capability and WAAS/LPV, and will enable the aircraft all major approach types worldwide including low RNP and WAAS/LPV approaches.

'The expandability of PlaneView cockpits, based on our Primus Epic architecture, is the true promise of avionics flexibility and growth we pledged to the industry when we began developing the first fully integrated cockpit in aviation history,' Wilson said. 'With a software upload, these aircraft will be Next Gen compliant, giving Gulfstream operators the functionality they need today and the knowledge that their PlaneView cockpits can be further expanded to meet future flight requirements.'

RNP is a key component of the FAA's next-generation performance-based navigation system. It utilizes global positioning and inertial reference system navigation, allowing aircraft to fly predetermined paths loaded in their flight management computers. Honeywell is also offering its Go Direct Services, which assists operators in attaining RNP SAAAR operational approval. 'RNP will save Gulfstream operators both time and fuel costs during airport operations and this functionality will improve aircraft capability in the evolving air space operations,' said Chad Cundiff, Vice President, Crew Interface Systems, Honeywell Aerospace. 'Honeywell's Go Direct Services is the leading service for operational approval of Gulfstream operators. It offers operators a complete suite of services to help them gain operational approval for RNP SAAAR in a timely manner including the ability to perform RNP SAAAR database validation, thereby offering operators a turn-key solution for the implementation of RNP SAAAR.'

RNP SAAAR procedures help aircraft access airports at weather minima lower than many other types of approaches and fly more precise approaches and departures, increasing operational efficiency and reducing operating costs, noise and emissions. WAAS provides vertical guidance during LPV approaches, increasing navigation accuracy and availability. FANS is designed to allow more aircraft to safely and efficiently utilize oceanic airspace using automatic dependent surveillance and data link technology.

The new avionics capabilities for the Gulfstream G350, G450, G500 and G550 aircraft will also include paperless terminal charts and maps, allowing the crew to leave all their paper charts while at home and enjoy an unprecedented redundancy that far exceeds industry standards.

The new avionics functionality is complemented by a significant improvement in the aircraft position accuracy through the introduction of High Integrity GPS – Hybrid (HIGH) Step 1 update to the Honeywell Integrated Reference System (IRS) units. This upgrade allows a more robust aircraft position display by blending the GPS signal with the position measurements coming from the IRS, allowing for a graceful degradation in case of GPS signal loss, a significant improvement when flying GPS-based approaches like RNP or WAAS-LPV.

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Honeywell's aerospace business is a leading global provider of integrated avionics, engines, systems and service solutions for aircraft manufacturers, airlines, business and general aviation, military, space and airport operations.

Honeywell International (www.honeywell.com) is a Fortune 100 diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials.

Unprecedented collaboration by government, private sector and academic leaders furthers development of sustainable aviation fuels

CARTAGENA, Colombia. – Boeing [NYSE: BA], the Airports and Auxiliary Services agency (ASA), an arm of Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transport, and Honeywell's UOP today announced a collaboration to identify, research and further the development of a commercially viable market for Mexico-sourced sustainable aviation biofuels.

'This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration, involving key government, private sector and academic leaders,' said Darrin Morgan, director of Biofuel Strategy for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. 'Working together, we are assessing the potential for large-scale production of aviation fuels made from sustainable biomass systems such as halophytes, algae, jatropha, castor and other so-called next-generation biomass-for-energy systems.'

ASA, which is responsible for all fuel management and airplane refueling operations in Mexico, together with Boeing made the announcement on the eve of the annual ALTA Aviation Leaders Forum, a gathering of more than 400 senior airline and aviation industry executives.

'We have a holistic view of the entire supply chain and are in an ideal position to push a collaborative framework forward and otherwise serve as a catalyst for progress,' said Alejandro Rios, director of Fuel Services for ASA.

Today's announcement builds on meetings in September with more than 50 government and business representatives in Mexico. Based on strong stakeholder enthusiasm, ASA, Boeing and UOP agreed to commission initial studies on promising biomass systems for Mexico and to formalize this collaboration with a commitment to work via the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, a global multistakeholder initiative developing a global biofuel sustainability framework.

Halophytic plants, which can be highly productive sources of biomass energy, will be the first research target. Halophytes thrive in arid land and can be irrigated with seawater waste streams from aquaculture, making halophytes potentially suitable for biofuels development in arid ecosystems with little competing land use potential. With improved plant science and agronomy, early testing results indicate halophytes also have the potential to deliver very high yields per unit of land.

Boeing, UOP and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi recently announced the first comprehensive, peer-reviewed assessment of halophytes, and Mexico will be a key contributor through this broader effort. The global team will collaborate with Mexican researchers in examining viability on arid, degraded land, where Mexico has opportunity to pioneer such biomass systems in conjunction with regions around the planet with similar climate and land use challenges.

Study elements will include evaluating aquaculture management and practices, assessing land use and energy requirements and identifying any potential adverse ecological or social impacts associated with using halophytes for energy development, specifically for aviation biofuels.

"Partnerships like this one are the key to a better understanding and, ultimately, commercial use of renewable aviation fuels,' said Jennifer Holmgren, UOP general manager for Renewable Energy & Chemicals. 'There is great potential here to identify and implement a sustainable supply chain for the production of aviation biofuels.'

A successful study outcome will give ASA the opportunity to better understand the potential bioderived sources that can be produced in Mexico and converted into a sustainable aviation fuel supply. The results are expected to be available in late 2010.

'ASA aims to be a catalyst to jump-start the production of bio jet fuels in Mexico, enabling our country to become a leader in the development and commercialization of aviation biofuels worldwide,' said General Director of ASA Gilberto López Meyer.

Sustainable biofuels are a key component of aviation's strategy for lowering carbon emissions. These advanced-generation biofuels are derived only from plant sources that do not distort the global food chain, compete with fresh water resources or lead to unintended land-use changes.

— WebWireID105824 —

Airlines / Aviation

Business Announcements

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds

Johannesburg, Gauteng, SA (October 2009) - A site that allows South African's to be their own travel agents and search for and compare flights online, now also includes information and price comparison about South African Airways.

Travelsupermarket (http://www.travelsupermarket.co.za) uses an advanced flight comparison engine that compares flights from all the major airlines as well as the low cost airlines such as Kulula, 1Time and Mango. It also includes information and tips about visiting each area, as well as information about the airports used.

The comparison engine is very simple to use. In order to compare SAA flights, one just needs to enter the flight route, which includes departure and destination airport, the date(s) as well as the number of people flying. The tool will then search and display the flights, by cheapest first.

Apart from booking flights on SAA, users of the site can also book car hire from the airport as well as arrange accommodation. These can be purchased separately or bought as part of a package deal.

SAA is the flag carrier airline of South Africa. It is a massive airline that services both domestic as well as international destinations. It also launched its own budget airline called Mango Airlines in order to be more competitive in this market.

— WebWireID105539 —

Airlines / Aviation

Leisure / Travel / Hotels

Travel Industry

WebWire® Copyright © 2009 Warmtone Corp. | Use of this content is subject to our Terms of Service | More Feeds
